I'm new to Pathfinder, and in my campaign it looks like I'll have the "opportunity" to roll a new character. I wanted to do something different from the lvl 6 Sorc I am currently playing and try something new.

What I want, ideally, is a character that can fight both at range and melee like a switch-hitter ranger, but flavor-wise I'd like to use daggers rather than a 2H weapon. In truth, I'd like to play a character who wields only a single dagger, but I don't know that that would work at all. (I don't know that Vital Strike would be an ample substitute for TWF?)

My original idea was some kind of rogue or assassin, but since our party already has a rogue I felt something else would be more interesting. Is a Switch-Hitter Ranger, taking Archery combat style and TWF through the normal feat progression a feasible build? I don't need to be optimized or anything, this is a beginner campaign, but I also don't want to be useless. I was a little above the curve with my Sorc, basically the primary damage dealer of the group and we didn't exactly breeze through every fight, so I'd prefer not to lose a lot of damage potential.

The plan is to follow Treantmonk's guide, but swapping the appropriate feats (Power Attack, Cleave, etc.) with TWF, ITWF, GTWF, Double Slice, and the like. I figured I could use the Combat Style to progress Archery as suggested, and attempt to follow a Monk-like progression of TWF. TWF at 1, ITWF at 7/9, GTWF at 15.(Sidenote: We have a monk in the party, too.)

Aside from the feasibility, the major roadblock is that we're rolling for stats, so I won't know where I stand on those until that happens. It'll require some heavy focus on Dex to get those feats, which does kind of defeat the advantages of a Switch-Hitter Ranger I suppose.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.
