Backstory:

Aoife, for as long as she can remember, was the dutiful daughter of a powerful Lastwall wizard, Folgrin Geanath, a master of lightning magic, who had once fought in the crusades. She grew up in his library, learning magic and reading all about the outside world, but barely leaving. She proved adept at conjuration magics, but never got too far in her studies, as her father forbade her from using offensive magics, not wishing to lose her (Aoife's mother had died as part of defending a town from an orc raid when she was around 6, and learning about it is a memory that still haunts her). So, she stayed inside. Day in, and day out. Never leaving the library (or so it felt). When she was twelve, she started getting restless, but still stayed inside still. By the time she was sixteen, the fact she had barely met anyone other than her father's friends started irking her. Then, one otherwise unremarkable night, she went to bed.

And then, nothing. Nothing but flashes of images and emotions.

A circle, inscribed on the floor. Anger.

A body, motionless on the floor. The face is indistinct. Dread

Darkness, light. The sky. Shame

A new building. Relief.

When she wakes up, Aoife will find a number of her new mannerisms quite perplexing. She never had this level of fitness before, and- is that a sword? How did she get that scar? Why is she suddenly 10 years older? What happened to her father? Thinking about her family, she recalls nothing but dread, and rage. Also shame. The emotions are confusing, and there's an inkling in the back of her mind that something terrible was her fault, for trying something she shouldn't have, and letting something get out of- no. She won't think about that. With no idea, she tells the niggling voice in the back of her mind, what happened to her father, or how she got here, she has to make the best of it. And part of her hopes she never does recover her memory, that her worst fears aren't true. But whatever the case… she's using these new skills of hers, this instinctual drill with a blade, a ferocious spark of combat magic inherited from her parents. She's never getting cooped up again. Her freedom is hers, and hers alone. The sky is the limit, now that she can see it. And her magic will take her there and beyond.

Appearance and Mannerisms:

Aoife is a woman in her early to mid twenties, with dark red hair and green-gray eyes. While used to wearing scholar's robes or a dress, these days, she finds herself in an outfit much more suited to rough use, with a form-fitting thick overcoat and durable yet comfortable pants and shirt, which she's obviously worn a lot but has no memory of. She speaks with a slight irish accent, courtesy of an Ulfen mother, and isn't terribly used to being around people (with no real conscious memory of being around anyone other than her father and his friends, particularly his old adventuring party), but still finds herself surprisingly comfortable interacting with them, despite any real experience she can remember.

20 Questions:

1- Curiosity or annoyance might both work pretty well, but overall I think "confused" works fairly well- Aoife has no idea how she got here or what she's doing, and is following her gut and hoping that it all works out. In time, I imagine 'determined' might come through, as she forces herself into optimism just to stay sane.
2- Aoife tries to keep people around her upbeat- it's an echo of her childhood, when she'd occasionally have to comfort her father on his worst days.
3- She really needs stability, above all else. When things are stable, she can let her mind work and pull of some fairly impressive things. When she's off-balance like this, and forced to think on her feet and trust her instincts, who knows how she'll cope.
4- Her goal before the memory wipe was to impress her father, particularly by becoming a powerful wizard like him. Now, it's to figure out what happened, and if her father is still alive (though there's also a part of her that dreads finding out).
5- If nothing else, she can at least carry on her father's wishes for her to surpass even him, because apparently she can do combat magic now. Who knew?
6- Aoife is from Lastwall, though it may be more apt to say she's from the library, as her father's excessive overprotectiveness kept her from really ever going out much at all.
7- She really started 'growing up' around when she was 14- when she realized her father was really smothering her by trying to keep her protected, and started sneaking out every once in a while. However, she never really had to fend for herself. That all came after the memory cut off, but it probably didn't go terribly well at first. Now, she has no clue what to do beyond just relying on muscle memory and hoping she does stuff right.
8- Aoife considers the primary goal in life the pursuit of knowledge- nothing should be out of reach by her account- a value that might not last long in a Lovecraftian AP. She is, however, quite opposed to the idea of violating someone's personhood after death- death, after all, is death, and should be treated as such (this is primarily in reference to necromancy, as she never had really any time to be exposed to actual resurrection magic. But necromancy, particularly the raising of undead, is straight off the table).
9- Aoife currently wears well-fitting, functional clothing. She prefers darker grays and blues, but typically has a fairly well-fitting, tough and warm yet breathable coat on top of a lighter shirt and more rugged pants.
10- She doesn't have much at the moment- a book and sword at her side, some gold in her back pocket, but if she has anything else, she has no idea.
11- She strongly prefers hardy, savory foods over anything too sweet, with fruit being about the sweetest she'll go, and really loves the smell of a musty book, as well as reading something new and interesting. She's also a fan of the feeling in the air after a long rainstorm, but that's a new development. She really dislikes not being able to move for extended periods of time, again a new development. She's also not a fan of being interrupted while in the middle of something, and dislikes anything that's too loud (especially people)
12- Aoife views people who dislike reading as daft and uneducated, people who don't actively strive to improve themselves as lazy and unmotivated, and people who accept everything without question as overly naïve and unwilling to think, and is frustrated with herself for doing just that for so long.
13- Her biggest comfort zone is having a book in her hands. So long as it’s a good book, anyway.
14- Her father has definitely had the biggest impact on her life, pressing her to constantly improve her mind and her magic, but also to never leave and explore the wider world. The first part she lives her life by, and the second she defines herself by not doing so.
15- Aoife is left-handed, always has a small book on her that she pulls out to read whenever she has a chance, and almost never blinks (maybe once an hour or so).
16- Aoife definitely belongs in a story where there's mysteries to be found out- almost like I made her with Strange Aeons in mind or something.
17- She's something of a backboard, who takes in all the weird stuff that's going to happen in stride- but still complains about how nothing makes sense anymore. She's in over her head and knows it, but doesn't see any alternative other than going along with it.
18- Aoife is easily annoyed by interruptions (even to just her though process), but doesn't actually do anything beyond it other than complain.
19- My playstyle is fairly combat-centric and number-oriented, but I also usually like having a fair amount of interaction between PCs, and maybe a 75/25 split between structured time and just unstructured RP and miscellaneous tasks.
20- Probably the most fitting way for Aoife to die would be to sacrifice herself to accomplish something otherwise impossible- She, of course, would disagree, and say that it's better to never die, but in the right circumstances, would likely be fit to die in the last minutes of a ritual that saves the day otherwise. For a more ironic twist, her common sense might lead her astray, and she ends up killing herself due to overly relying on her intuition.

Comments:

I do apologize how… stereotypical Aoife's 1st-level build is (magical lineage, improved initiative, etc.), however, I can personally guarantee that the build will not stay sterotypical long at all. By level 6, there will be an impressive amount of build devoted to twisting into the really convoluted prerequisites I've forced myself into that I can take levels in two separate prestige classes, at which point I get to devote the rest of my build (more or less) into rituals, which are almost unilaterally strictly worse than their spell counterparts.
Sigh…
Basically, I'm trying with level 1 to get a solid base, where I actually have a decent foundation for an effective character, so that when I go off the deep end with absurd abilities, I can still also contribute to the party.
Also, for Aoife, everything about this is weird to her. Last she remembers, she was a bookworm, wasting away her life in her father's library. The fact she has muscles, a weird sword, knows combat magic, and can understand Aklo is going to weird her out tremendously. Once her sword actually wakes up and starts talking to her, she's going to wonder if any of this is even real… if it even takes her that long to get to that point. She's a bookworm first and foremost, and that's all she remembers (hence her heavy point allocation into Knowledges), but her body is telling her how to fight, and she just has to go with the flow, and hope she knows what she's doing.
