So about my buddy, yea or nay?

Ahhh, these are sad days. But it sounds like you'll be doing far more charitable work without having to worry about us. Thanks for GMing for us Kiora. I honestly won't forget you.

Next order of business, my top 2 picks would have to be
Hell's Rebels
And
Dragon's Demand

I really wanted to do a Hell's Rebels Game just because it's shiny and cool, but I also like the idea Dragon's Demand because it would shorter campaign, which seems like a good idea for pbp. If we wanted to go further we can always go with your expanded material, but I'd like to finish one PbP in my lifetime.

Those two would have to be equally high on my list. My third pick would be for Iron Gods just cause I have a Character pretty much ready from Kiora's Iron Gods.

Also, could I invite a friend? He was expecting to play in Kiora's Iron Gods up until today, but he's been really eager to play any PbP at all.

Ahh reminds me of The Lady of Pain from my cursory read of Planescape. You so much as cross her path (literally) you get flayed alive or dropped in an inescapable maze. Similar fates befall those who attempt to worship her. Forget anybody who actually defies her.

"This way, Anthony motions the group. He leads them to a shabby looking back door which takes them to Laurel's lab, consisting of shelves, shelves and more shelves filled past the edges with all manner of raw ingredients, alembics, beakers and other whatsits. Hopefully Laurel is home so they can give her the goods and hibernate away the rest of the day. Or few days. And also make sure Herral and Adrac got back okay.

We just have the torches on Flower. Didn't pick up Light because I didn't personally need it. From a flavor perspective it made sense that someone who could see in the dark wouldn't need Light. Sorry for being selfish. I think maybe I should pick it up soon.

Anthony retrieves his own blade and scans the area with his darkvision. He says to Davi, with a calm at odds with his tense posture, "I have no interest in verifying whether or not you are actually a pancake connoisseur or whether there are pancake connoisseurs in the world at all. Regardless, I will have to agree with you on the account of Jak's pancakes. They may well be the best in Andoran."

His earlier bravado gone, he remains tensely locked and ready for danger in silence.

Yeah, that's fair. I was just pretty sure Kiora wasn't going to screw us for maybe not clarifying that in our post.

Also Anthony is very loopy now that he's used the last point of his Arcane Pool.

Maybe he finally snapped under all of the stress of fighting being pressed on a time limit. Maybe Davi's adorable rambling was actually just that amusing. Maybe both. Maybe neither. Whatever the case, Anthony burst out laughing, chuckling at first, until it rose into a full and boisterous noise. "HA HA HA HA, PANCAKES? Ah, that's the best thing I've heard all day Davi. Pancakes... hahaha. Hilarious." He wipes a tear from his eye before he continues laughing uncontrollably, babbling incoherently about how amusing her choice of comfort food was or somesuch. It doesn't stop him from walking, just slows him a bit as he stumbles along holding his sides together.

It would be kind of silly if we didn't. I mean we still can't make much of a cure without all of the ingredients present, but if we were going to send the ingredients we should send all the ones we had at the time.

Anthony slides his rapier back into place then tilts his head in thanks. He answers Miirik in Draconic, in quietly so that Kobolds in the next room would hopefully not hear, <"Dragonchord, I have called it upon myself to rid this land of cancers such as you and your tribe. If we meet again, I won't be so friendly as this."> He looks to Soroza and asks in common, "Can you stand?" If she can't, Anthony will work with Davi to carry her out.

Anthony glowers at Miirik but remains silent for a time as Jansen tries to talk him down. He pauses a moment before speaking, "Miirik, you don't want to do that. Just give us the mushrooms and no one gets hurt. You've got our word, and once you give us the mushrooms we have no reason to harm you. We'll feign weakness and run away. You can appear powerful in front of your tribe and everyone walks away relatively unscathed. This only works if you put. the mushrooms. Down."

Anthony is about to strike when the little Kobold screeches about his "victory". He snarls at the red scaled cretin, " Unless you can speak Wolf, she will not be capable of understanding you, kobold." Nonetheless, save inching toward it to stand over Soroza's body, he makes no further attempt to injure the Wolf. His blade is ready, furthermore, his intent to kill is ready, should she continue to fight.

Five foot step into Soroza's square. She is prone so I believe I don't need to make any attempts to squeeze. If I do, then I would like to move to a square adjacent her and the wolf. Ready an attack to strike the Wolf if she attempts to make any hostile actions (probably just attacking)

Anthony heard the shouts, and he understood the words. His mind raced. Was Miirik seriously betraying them? Did he have something else in mind? He had to make a call, the others didn't have the information he did. "We've got less than thirty seconds. The kobold sold us out! Graypelt still dies, then we make a run for it."

"Time to meet whatever maker you believe in."He sneers at the Worg and jabs him quickly then smashes into him with his Horns.

Ha-ha, I only just realized I did something illegal in my post. I must have confused our poor GM. I wanted to 5 foot step north to take advantage of the flank from Davi, but I didn't write it in or even look at the battle map to change my position. If I had, I would have noticed Jansen sitting right there. So I guess just ignore that bit about flanking in my last IC post.

I think we're not waiting on anyone else at this point.

Haven't read up on it at all, so I can't say.

So next after we take Graypelt down, I vote we go raid his stuff. Not just the mushrooms. Little difficult to justify that in character but we'll see.

Anthony drops his crossbow as soon as the bolt extracts a screaming report from Graypelt. In the same motion, he draws his rapier from its sheath reorients himself to take advantage of Davi's flanking position. If he were more witty, he likely would have said something clever as he stared down the worg. Right now, he's more concerned with ending the beast's life before anyone else got hurt than style points. He sets his blade ablaze with Magic and goes for the heart.

Hey so I got on my computer. I guess I didn't make it clear enough where I wanted to lie in wait. The front room is the only place open enough for us to not need to worry about firing over eachothers' heads or into melee. I've taken the liberty of moving everyone out there. On a Full round "Run" action, Davi will be able to make it out there in one round. Graypelt should be able to follow, especially because I'm assuming that he has something like 40 ft. of movement. Assuming Graypelt follows we can all ready an attack action with our loaded crossbows to shoot as soon as he pulls through the door which will be before he is in actual melee with Davi.

"Crossbows first. Swords if he's still alive." Anthony says as he pulls his out. He retrieves the bolts he picked up earlier and hands the others one each.

"Use those. They're Magic. That worg shouldn't survive the first assault."

He takes out his crossbow and loads one of the red bolts into it. "Let's go, and try not to make too much noise."

"Ugh, fine, Dragon. Whatever. I need you all to be quiet. You think you can do that? Good. Miirik, your people have unquestionable knowledge of traps and their inner workings. Now this will be a simple trap by your standards, but I will need you to play a key role. Graypelt doesn't yet know you are working alongside us so I need you to go and provoke him. Send him flying into a rage. We're going to be waiting out in the main hall with crossbows at the ready. As soon as Graypelt comes through the door, we'll fill him with holes. Got it?"

Male Tiefling Magus (Fiend Flayer) 1 HP 7/9; AC 19, T 14, FF 15, hp 9, Fort +2, Ref +4, Will +2; Resist Fire 5, Perception +5, AP 0/5

That's a good plan. Maybe I'll have Anthony hang on to his crossbow then. If we had a spear we could get all tactical and set it against a charge. But I don't think we do. Maybe we can set up a firing line. I think almost everyone has a crossbow. Everyone fire one shot on the flat-footed worg and then take out their melee weapons if he's still alive.

EDIT: I guess the glaring flaw in this plan is that the only place to set up a firing line is at least 70' away from the entrance to Graypelt's room. And Sir Kobold's land speed is 30'and I'm guessing the Wolf is faster. Maybe Miirik could use the run action for triple speed? It would Render you flat-footed for a turn, but it would get you the hell away from the dog. No guarantee wolfy just wouldn't follow though, which would also ruing our plan.

On the other end, The problem with having everyone wait in melee range is failing stealth checks is bad. Also we don't have a ton of space to lie in wait.

Anthony grimaces, then looks away. "Fine but don't interrupt." he says.

Sorry to have put you in that situation. But let me offer a few solutions. You may have already thought of a few of these but its good to lay them all out on the table

  • She could snap at Anthony
  • She could just agree to go along with Anthony and his plan to sneak attack Graypelt.
  • She could just stew angrily
  • or wait for them to finish feeling a loss of purpose.
  • She could continue to try to reason with Jansen while the others go on.
  • She could sulk and then decide that helping them is the right thing to do. Maybe Anthony and them start losing the fight and she comes back to have a Big Damn Hero moment.

I like that last one. Gives everyone a chance to patch things up. But maybe you could just use one of those ideas, and branch out from it and come up with your own idea.

I'm sorry to have caused so much dissonance, I just felt like the conversation was going in circles and I had to break the cycle somehow.

Male Tiefling Magus (Fiend Flayer) 1 HP 7/9; AC 19, T 14, FF 15, hp 9, Fort +2, Ref +4, Will +2; Resist Fire 5, Perception +5, AP 0/5

I hope people don't mind splitting the party. I felt like this was the natural course of the conversation in terms of dramatic writing. Hope it wasn't too much. I'm thinking about how we could bring the party back together, but we'll cross that bridge when we come to it.

For strategy, I was thinking Anthony and Soroza go hide next to the door on the other side of the wall while Miirik calls out Graypelt for a 1v1 using the crossbow with the bolts Anthony picked up. He knows they're magical, just not sure how. Anthony and Soroza have prepared actions to strike him as soon as he passes through the doorway, and the three of them will just continue to wallop him until he's dead.

EDIT: to be clear, I meant that after firing a shot at Graypelt Miirik would run and lead him through the door where the trap would be waiting for him.

Male Tiefling Magus (Fiend Flayer) 1 HP 7/9; AC 19, T 14, FF 15, hp 9, Fort +2, Ref +4, Will +2; Resist Fire 5, Perception +5, AP 0/5

"Enough! " Anthony roars.

The reptile is correct. Davi, Jansen, if you're not going to kill him then stay out of our way. The three of us are going to take him down, and I don't intend for it to be a fair fight."

He looks Davi in the eye and says, "You're in no position to be arguing for his safety. If anyone should be arguing for his second chance, it should be me." He tilts his head down so she can see the entirety of his Horns. Then he wraps his tail around the gourd and tosses it to Davi. He spits venomously, " But I'm not. Go kill some bats or something, but stay the hell out of my way. I'm going to get those F*cking mushrooms, and I'm going to get them without getting all of us killed."

"Miirik, this ranger, Soroza will be wearing the ring. If your affinity for fire is as great as you say, you have no purpose for it. My skin is naturally fire resistant, so I have little use for such a trinket. " He huddles close with Soroza and Miirik and whispers his strategy with them.

Discussing strategy in discussion thread.

Anthony softens his grip slightly, and shifts to a less aggressive stance. He stares relentlessly at the reptillian creature until Soroza makes a small joke. He shies warily away from Soroza during her fit of laughter, clearly very uncomfortable with her sense of humor.

Davi was so quickly swayed by him, and Soroza didn't seem to have a problem with how smoothly Miirik explained the situation. Jansen only seemed to be struggling with the idea of going back on his word. This kobold is cunning in a way that few of their species are. I'll have to keep an eye on him. Anthony thinks to himself. They trust him too readily

"'I am a protector of the roadways and keep travelers from harm. No matter their destinations or goals, if they are peaceable and legitimate travelers who harm no others on the road, I will ensure that they pass safely.' Those are the words of your order are they not Leftenant? How many hapless travelers have lost their lives to this featherless bastard and his wives? The Judge of the Gods may forgive you for going back on your word, but he would not allow for this oversight according to His tenets. Of course I'm not the paladin here, so you'll have to forgive me if my interpretation of that was incorrect." Anthony watches Jansen carefully as he measures his speech.

After that he shows the ring to Soroza and attempts to put it on her finger. He explains aloud, "This is a ring of Torag's. It will protect you from fire, though only small amounts each day. It could probably shield you from a single explosion or burst of flame at a time, so you should still be careful."

Anthony's glower smolders from behind his companions upon seeing the kobold with Adrac's sash in hand. He rapidly unsheathes his rapier and says in a low, but very audible voice, "I will give you six seconds to explain how you came upon that."

Anthony nearly gasps as he notices the mushrooms. He asks Soroza in a hushed tone, as if speaking too loud would make the mushrooms vanish, "Do you think there might be more all over the place?" As he says so, he gingerly picks the ring from the corpse and looks at it in the light, murmuring a small spell to feel out whether or not it is magical.

Anthony wanders in carefully, looking for anything else well hidden. Booby traps and treasure tended to be treated similarly in installations such as this. He beckons the ranger inside, welcoming the others to follow as well. "Detention center?" Meanwhile, back at Droskar's Crucible...

"No bats." Anthony echoes. They'll be in the other room. But give me a minute with this one. He happens upon four bolts which he examines carefully, opening up his magical senses. Unfortunately he has relatively little idea of what magic they hold, but they are well made.

He finds a far more exciting discovery by chance: a hidden door. A smug feeling warms him as he knows that not many could have found this door. Especially not Graypelt. He tries the portal and holds his breath until he sees what's on the other side.

Anthony exits the room leaving Graypelt and his harem behind tossing his torch to the ground by the door. He grabs Davi by the shoulder and looks her in the eyes. Its an angry look, one that might terrify a lesser woman. In a low voice, he rants at her, "We should have killed him, Davi. Graypelt is not a mere animal. Animals kill for food and can't speak our tongue. He's a Worg, and a Worg murders and for pleasure and lies through all of his pointed teeth. The people in Falcon's Hollow are sick. Some of them are dying and he's sitting on our best bet to helping them." Anthony sags a little bit, this rant seems to be taking a toll on him and the lines in his forehead crease with stress and frustration he stutters, " I-I won't disagree with you right now... it will make us look... weak. But if anyone dies because we delayed I'll hold you responsible." He stabs a finger at her then picks up the torch from the ground and forcibly jams his blade into it's sheath. He takes the gourd he purchased earlier and says quickly, "Let's find those bats"

knowledge (Arcana): 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (15) + 8 = 23
Stealth: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (15) + 4 = 19
Perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (20) + 5 = 25

Don't think we're doing the rounds thing right at the moment, so I hope nobody minds that I'm doing all of this. Holding the torch and the Alchemist's fire and moving to the hallway to check the room.

Also, I don't remember if I failed any of those stealth or perception checks earlier.

Just got home a few hours ago. I'm up to date, but I'm a little too pooped right now to post anything more.

Awesome to hear about Iron Gods though!

I hadn't thought to upset anyone, I just really wanted to kill that guy dead. I had a meta-gamey gut feeling that he's got more than mushrooms for loot. I also have a feeling he might just try to take us on while we're weak, if we don't deal with him now. but that's a better in character fear.

That was a bit longer than I had expected, but I'll have something In Character tomorrow.

GMoL: Thanks! I plan to.

Sorry Davi >.<
I've been rereading a web serial called Worm and I think it might have something to do with the aggression. Too many slimy guys like Graypelt that I just want to see the good guys whack. That, and I was getting a little impatient.

Yep, Anthony is too. Still haven't sheathed the rapier. I should have worked that into my post, but apparently it's already too late to edit it.

Also I'm taking the family camping from the 12th-16th. There won't be much in the way of gadget time or internet connection, so I don't think I'll be posting at all during that time. Please do bot Anthony while I'm gone.
