upon seeing Macondi rushing to the prone man he shouts after, "Be careful! Whatever did that to them could still be here!" He draws his firearm just in case and watches for any hidden threats.

Amperex will attempt to seek for anything larger and more dangerous than larva that might be in the water.

The kobold stands next to Barak and stares intently at the footprint deep in thought, "At the same time.. such a creature may simply be a minion of something more dangerous.

"Gods damnit.. Cogswork! Scrap! Block that carriage off now!" The construct rushes into the street and places itself in position to hold up anything it, or Amperex can get their hands on to act as a makeshift barricade, like a section of a fence post, large barrel, or old carts.

"Come along Cogswork, we've got some rubble and ruin to sift through." The little kobold and his machine waddle out of the inn after Barak as he thinks out loud to himself, "Hmm.. my expectation of creepy houses owned by cultists is "spooky basement", he quotes with his fingers,".. so we should keep an eye out for any hidden doors or passages in the foundation."

don't know about anyone else, but I've been stuck in baldur's gate 3 land for a few days

Amperex taps his chin in thought, "..this raises an important question: why did none of the people we've talked to prior mention this?" He stares at the floor in thought, "If these tools were being stolen all over town, they had to know about it.. so why not mention it? Seems like the sort of thing at least one of them would have remembered."

He assertively puts his hands on his hips, "I think someone isn't telling us everything they know."

The little kobold jots down a note while muttering to himself, "Six and four... dead on ..Shimmerford road.." He then sticks the little piece of paper in his coat.

"I think some of the people we've already talked to may actually be our best source regarding this 'six and four'.. not to mention this business of," He shrugs and his face contorts to one of strained incredulity, "stolen shovels??"

Amperex looks to the innkeeper, "Hello! Yes, right here good sir." He waves and gives a gentle snap to get the man's attention, "We can let my compatriots have their conversation while we talk business, yes?" He gives his best toothy smile, "We are here to investigate the matter of this witch and don't know how long that may take. How many rooms do you have available?"

Cogswork carries Amperex to the edge of the farmstead to look at the calf, "I'm passably trained, but I don't know that it is able to be saved, at least not by me." He looks to the rest of the group, "unless any of you have the ability to save it, the best I can offer is to do as Aztryx suggested and make it quick." He draws his double-barrel pistol and sets it across his lap, his legs crossed as he sits in the construct's still cupped hands, and simply waits before making a move with the firearm.

"That business aside, I agree with Macondi that we should continue to the inn first before we go exploring abandoned buildings."

Amperex looks at the first child and their injuries, and then the other two as they pile in toward the doorway. Unfortunately being only 3 feet tall at best makes it difficult to see past the curious children; glancing up at Aztryx after his question, he makes a quick clicking sound with his mouth.

"Damn my height challenges", he thinks.

Almost as quickly as the sound is made, Cogswork comes to attention and lifts Amperex into his hands, very gently holding him several feet off the ground, with the palms of the construct acting like a seat. With a new perspective, hopefully, he gets a serviceable look at things.

is it possible to tell, either at a glance, or with a visual check of some kind, what kind of injuries these might be generally? like, broken bones vs burns kind of difference.

"Marvelous!"Amperex pipes up when he sees the stone, "That's magnetite, very magnetic.. though I'm unsure how it relates to anything happening here.." his tone turns from excitement, to sudden confusion.

Amperex gestures to his compatriots while facing Tanner, "We've heard about this woman in the gold armor ourselves actually, but nothing more than that she came here and then vanished." He points at the magnetite, "When she asking about the stone, did she saying anything else, like where it came from? Why she was interested in it?"

"I believe our next stop is at the inn," Amperex looks at Macondi, "aside from Quintus, the innkeeper may know more about the other visitors, they had to have stayed there after all."

He strokes the scales of his chin, "in fact.. if they disappeared into the forest while they were still staying at the inn, some of their things could have been left behind. If so, it could give us some valuable clues."

"Who's "we" ma'am?", Amperex pipes up from the back of the room. "Did it 'take' from them too? Does it take from everyone that encounters it?" The low angle and near motionless state of his tail gives away his concern.

Some sort of memory manipulation maybe? Or something worse..

hmm, seems normal, if a bit daft to be traveling to a place like this.

"Nice to meet you Haru. Galia", he motions to her hut back the way they came, "..gave us a few descriptions for people to talk to, she actually mentioned you specifically, though not by name." He swats at a mosquito near his face mid talk. "She said you got here this week; I'm curious if any of the townsfolk specifically mentioned any of the other recent visitors when you talked to them? Just thinking of any way we can maybe pick up the trail of the people that went into the forest and didn't come back out."

Amperex suddenly pointed his index finger skyward in a eureka moment, "Actually, Macondi, that brings up a good point." He turns to Galia, "Miss Farrsmith, aside from the standard antidotes, are there any local methods people have been taking to protect themselves, at least to some extent, from the mosquitos and the like? At least, ones you would recommend."

Amperex comes from outside after making sure Cogswork is on guard and out of the way, enough to hear talk of what happened to the cultist, stepping forward as Aztryx retrieves something to write with. "Gruesome though it is, his death not stopping the problem doesn't preclude his involvement. He could have unleashed.. something, with no need to further sustain it." he shrugs slightly and rests his hands on his hips, "Or he could have been working with others; cultists are rarely alone.. one of the unfortunate qualities of cults."

Amperex fiddles through his pouches at the mention of antidotes, looks into a coin purse, and faintly huffs. "ah well, it should be fine." He knocks on Cogswork as if for good luck.

"well, as an associate used to say: nothing to it, but to do it." he says with a shrug as he begins to make his way to the docks, ".. now where's that boat.."

"Say thank you for the compliments Cogsworks.", the kobold says without even looking up. The construct looks to Amperex, then to those preset and makes a beeping sound as it bows slightly.

"As for this mosquito witch.." he strokes his chin, "it could be a witch who turns INTO a mosquito monster? Or maybe a mosquito monster that became a witch?? Either way it sounds like it will be disease ridden and quite unpleasant to look at."

He thinks for a moment, scratching the side of his head, "I do wonder what has changed to make things so different now than the last fifty years though." He looks to those present with a more distinctly "magical" trappings for ideas.

The door opens once more somewhat abruptly behind Aztryx. A construct standing over 6 feet and shaped akin to a sphere with stocky arms and legs and a dome shaped head looms in the open doorway. It’s size and stoic stance, shadowed by the interior, may give it a more intimidating appearance than was likely intended.. as indicated by the lopsided smile painted in white across its otherwise featureless face.

”Ugh!” calls out a small raspy voice from behind the construct’s legs. ”Move, bolt-brain!”

The construct takes a few steps forward before coming to a stop as it no longer blocks the doorway. The sound of leather boots gently smacks against the floor and the door is shut behind the machine.

A gold colored kobold steps out from behind the construct, his tail swinging back and forth rhythmically as it gives away his excitement. The small thing wears a heavy trench coat over leather armor adorned with small gears and gizmos, with a toolbox hanging from his shoulder under one arm, a holstered pistol on the other side, and sleek silver goggles covering his eyes with tinted blue lenses.

”Hello, hello, hello..” he says with a shifting gaze as if counting out the word for each present, ”I am Amperex..” with a gentle rubbery slap he pulls up his goggles and lets them snap onto the top of his head, revealing his light blue eyes, ”..inventor. Oh! And this is Cogswork.” He gestures with the thumb on his left hand to the construct still standing silently behind him.

In his right Amperex still grips a small sheet of paper. Obviously a bit scatterbrained, he glances down at it and mutters some words aloud, his thin tail flicking back and worth, ”… Weaponworks… dwarf..” He looks at those present, ”Since none of you match the description of..” he glances quickly back at the paper, ”a Mr. Smine?… I assume we will all be working together on this little venture.”

I haven't even looked at the scenarios before, so all's the same to me really.

I do have a character ready to go; a kobold inventor. And thanks for having me!

Barak & Macondi might be interested in joining a Level One game with Amperex, especially if you're offering to GM, Super Zero. Macondi's player is also fairly new to PFS, but I'm a veteran.

Barak is a fighter with 8 Gm credit XP that I am setting up right now, and Macondi is an oracle who has 4 XP from 4-01. I need to look to see what Barak has already credit for, but I'm willing to expend replays for a fun non-repeatable if you offer one.

That's right; I'm not new to 2e at all, but I don't know any of the scenarios or anything for society.

..and it's my first time actually using these forums for anything other than googling rule questions

I'm just starting out with society and at the point of needing a first game. I assume this is the right place to keep an eye out.
