With directions from the innkeeper (or Gahlia), Heather is easily able to locate the site of the cultist's house and the Pathfinder party reaches it within 30 minutes. Or, at least, where it once stood. However, the site holds no clues relevant to their investigation—only charred wood, salty ash, and chunks of blackened human bone.

Once they've exhausted the site and turn their attention to the next point of interest (Witchtop Hill?), the party passes near the village again--where they're alerted to the fact that something is wrong by the high-pitched screaming of horses.

A carriage pulled by six horses tears down the road near Shimmerford at dangerous speeds, the animals evidently driven wild by the biting bloodseekers—the bloodseekers themselves were not fast enough to keep up with the carriage and are not present, though the horses are clearly bleeding from numerous tiny wounds.

The carriage is on a crash-course with a sharp ridge and there appear to be several passengers on board. But if the Pathfinders act fast enough, maybe they could...

Leap onto the carriage, (Acrobatics or Athletics DC 19. On a success you rescue one passenger and can repeat the check. Once you fail, you fall off and fall behind)

Calm the horses, (Nature DC 19 to make the horses slow down so a passenger can escape on their own, or two on a critical success) or

Build a barricade (Athletics or Crafting to impede the horses to force them to slow down so a passenger can escape on their own).

Unfortunately, there's little time to act. That certainly makes this more difficult...
(Each PC can attempt one check.)

At the burned out ruins of the house, Macondi walks slowly around inspecting things almost at random. "Huh. I'm not noticing anything left here of use." He looks around in the surrounding area for a bit too. "Not a shovel here either," he comments disappointedly.

When the carriage comes careening out of the village, Macondi looks over in surprise. He recovers fairly quickly though. "Come on, Barak. We can do something about this, right?"

Acrobatics (armor penalty): 1d20 + 5 - 1 ⇒ (13) + 5 - 1 = 17

Macondi chases after the carriage, but falls behind because of the weight of the light armor that he is wearing. He makes a desperate burst of speed and leaps to try and catch the edge of the rear railing. He manages to grab it briefly and ends up dragged behind the carriage for a few seconds. When his knees couldn't take much more abuse and his hands were losing grip strength, he lets go and ends up face down in the dirt. He quickly starts to pick himself up from the ground and watches to see how everyone else is doing and if there is any way for him to continue to help.

Knowledge about kobolds would be Society, as they are humanoids.

While Heather suspects the footprints actually belong to kobolds, she does know a little about mitflits when Barak brings them up. She knows that in general gremlins are cruel fey tricksters and saboteurs who have fully acclimated to life in the Universe, finding distinct niches for their inventive destructiveness.

Following the footprints to the northeast, the Pathfinders find that they extend a modest distance into the woods before the strides become shorter as though the running creature slowed to a walk... and then started intentionally obscuring their footprints.

The party continues in that direction, but gets turned around in the woods--despite having compasses, they seem to be going in a circle somehow. After being lost in the woods for several hours and enduring incessant mosquito bites (Everyone can make Fortitude saves), they find themselves at a large, muddy pond.

This doesn't seem to be what they were looking for. It looks nearly identical to many such ponds in the Shimmerford woods, except that it seems to be teeming with unseasonable life--the water is squirming with mosquito larvae.
The Pathfinders spot a man with fine brown hair and white clothing lying supine on the ground. He is on the shore of the pond with his head and torso floating in the water, and his clothes are inexplicably pristine despite the mud.
