Male Human Ranger (falconer, trapper) 2, Perception +6(+9 vs. traps), Survival +6(+7 to track), Geography +5

My apologies for my absence. I was in the hospital last week with an unexpected surgery and only just returned to work last night fully expecting to get caught up only to find that Paizo is now a blocked site. I will try to keep up with this game as the posting rate is more relaxed than most games. It may be tomorrow before I can get caught up. Please bear with me.

Nature: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (4) + 6 = 10

Alleran takes up a position between the strange beasties and the party. "Who goes there?" He asks of the unfamiliar creatures.

Serves me right for not giving a character description when Alleran walked into the tavern to meet new characters. Not only does he wield a great axe, he's a former lumberjack.

Hokina:

Does Alleren know who Tablic is and who he married in the Diamond Regiment? Apologies if you've already told me.

Alleran shrugs at the dwarf's comment. "Well, maybe the fox will offset my faux pas. Maybe we'll get lucky and run into these Greenfire Circle types first."

"The Good 'n Gander is as good a place to start as any. Let's go." The ranger agrees as he stands and follows along with the others.

ICly, I thought that's where we were with the exception of Ford and his squirrel. I was just waiting for the other newcomer to finish his discussion with the tavern owner/cook/?

I just read the lastest in game post and thought What does that have to do with anything Alleran just said? Oh, right, that's the other conversation. hehehe

Alleran looks to the dwarf, "No, we have another disease to investigate. The Diamond Regiment is currently taking point on the werewolf problem. Ford's obsession with rebuilding a forge in what are now wilds in the midst of several nasty issues seems unhealthy and unwise to me, but that's him. Nothing I've ever said has impacted his course of action."

I don't see it on your Sheets on here or in the google inventory sheets.

Sure, he'll take the mw battle axe. I'll put it on the character sheet and inventory sheet.

Alleran accepts the seat, motions to a server for something to drink and replies, "There was a werewolf attack on Olfden just a few nights ago. It was no attack on a shipment, but a full scale attack on the town including, siege weapons. Olfden was able to repel the invaders with the help of the Diamond Regiment, but not without cost."

Looking around at the newcomers gathered at the table, he asks, "Who are your friends?"

To keep the game moving, here is what Alleran talks about after introductions are made.

The corporal pauses at the thought of the sacrifice of his brothers and sisters-in-arms. "Still there are many things which need doing closer to Falcon's Hollow. For instance, that plague which we worked to defeat is known amongst dwarves and other cave dwelling races, but it almost never reaches the surface. It is no accident or unfortunate coincidence that it came here. We can return to the monastery ruins and further investigate. We didn't have time to thoroughly search the place and there may be more clues to uncover."

Taking a moment to drink and draw breath, he continues, "Further, I have been apprised of a situation with the local fey. It seems they, too, are beset by a heretofore unknown disease and their queen has requested the help of the Diamond Regiment. Following the attack at Olfden and fear of attacks on other settlements, they are shorthanded. I have been asked to look into it. This may be a coincidence, but there could also be some connection to the sickness here. Perhaps it's even the same plague and we already know how to cure that."

He pauses again and then asks, "What say you, will you help and how shall we proceed?"

Alleran tips his hat to the herbalist once more as he departs her shop. Walking down the lane, he follows his nose to the source of the cinnamon scent wafting through the neighborhood. Finding himself at what appears to be an inn, he enters through the street door. Scanning the room for familiar faces, his eyes alight upon the town guard and cleric.

The ranger heads over to their table, "Hail and well met. Zova Lex, I believe that we are searching for each other. You have news?"

"Thank you, ma'am. I was glad to be of service." Alleran scoops up the twenty gold pieces and tips his tricorne to the herbalist. As he turns to leave, a thought strikes him, "Does that vaunted tome of yours have any information of forest creatures in addition to home remedies?" He asks of Laurel.

Replacing the papers in the tube, Alleran looks up as the boy approaches. At his message the ranger replies, "Thanks, kid. Here's something for your effort." He hands over 3 copper pieces.

Idly tapping the tube against his leg as he walks, Alleran thinks about the missive. Entering Laurel's shop, he smiles and waves at the shopkeeper, "Hello, ma'am. Happy to report that we succeeded in the task."

I am still here and ready to play. My character's actions were predicated upon his still being in the army and needing to return to report his actions from his assignment. This weekend was just a busy one for me with Free RPG Day yesterday and a home game today before work.

Hopefully Zova's computer issues will soon be fixed and Ford is still around.

Apologies, GM.

Alleran rises later that morning somewhat wearier in the soul. He helps the groundskeeper in digging a grave and will attend any kind of service the orphanage conducts for the unfortunate lad.

Afterwards, he will make his goodbyes to the others and begin the journey back to the regimental headquarters of the Diamond Regiment. Once there he will report to his superiors on the details of the dilemma in Falcon's Hollow, their mission and the outcome.

"Thank you, ma'am." Alleran also moves to see the room. At the sight of the two beds, he returns downstairs.

"Zova, why don't you take the other bed upstairs? The hayloft is good enough for me. Hay is definitely softer than a bedroll on a hard wooden floor or the ground."

Sketching a bow with a nod of his head, the ranger departs for the barn where he climbs into the hayloft. Ensuring that his falcon has fed and giving him water, he sets him on a perch and lies down to sleep.

Returning the others some time later, Alleran listens to a retelling of the events in town. He appears relieved that the cure arrived in time to save most of the townsfolk. "Well done all. Lives were saved on our watch."

Looking to Elara, he asks, "May we impose upon you once more? We have been traveling nearly non-stop for several days now. A rest would do us well before heading back into town. Even your hay loft would be better than the ground."

After Alleran finishes speaking, he will go out to the stables and tend to the horses and other animals there. He will water them if they need it, clean them and tend to anything he sees which may be amiss.

Once Zova returns, Alleran relieves her of the horse. He walks it around to cool it down and then returns it to the stable. Once there, he unsaddles it, removes the bit and bridle then rubs it down with straw before giving it water and feed. He then takes the time to brush the horse before returning to the others.

Apologies, busy weekend.

"Thank you, Elara."

Alleran waits for the children to be gathered up and then speaks to them of his experiences with the army and how he has enjoyed the camaraderie of his fellow soldiers; building new friendships and relationships. How he found brothers and sisters who he never had growing up. The opportunity to explore new places and meet new people. To start a life away from the shadows of his own childhood.

Let it play out of character as I don't want to slow down the game any further.

Liberty's Edge

Male Human Ranger (falconer, trapper) 2, Perception +6(+9 vs. traps), Survival +6(+7 to track), Geography +5

Alleran responds to Elara's account of some of her charges who had joined the army, "Do you truly believe that joining the army is what led to their rash, vengeful behavior? You don't think that they would have sought out those creatures to enact revenge without the army? I could as easily say that you didn't do enough to sway them from those thoughts, but that would be equally unfair. There will always be those who crave vengeance for slights or wrongs. The horrors visited upon many of these children prompt such feelings and some will never be turned aside. Yet others can learn to channel their fear, hatred and," the ranger looks Ford square in the eye, "yes, even aggression to positive ends. The army instills discipline, teaches skills and offers camaraderie; this last is especially important for orphans. They will find brothers and sisters, a family to fill the void left by their loss."

The andoren places his palms on the table. "You are their warden. I leave it to your decision, but consider that in the absence of choices they will all end up chopping trees or lying on their backs."

Liberty's Edge

Male Human Ranger (falconer, trapper) 2, Perception +6(+9 vs. traps), Survival +6(+7 to track), Geography +5

Alleran listens to Elara's words about her wards. He nods at her descriptions of prostitution and lumberjacking. "I was once one of those lumberjacks. It was hard, but honest work. The corruption doesn't really come into play until farther up the line. Gave me the skills I have with an axe now. Still, I left the woods sometime back for the army and have never looked back. Andoran needs good men and women to help defend our country, and neighboring lands, from predations. You started this orphanage in the wake of the Goblinblood Wars. Our army was instrumental in defeating the goblinoids. How many of your youngsters came from those ravaged lands? Which of them don't wish that soldiers had come sooner to save their families? What better way to repay your kindness than for them to join up and protect the next generation from their own fates?"

The ranger gives Elara a frank, sincere look. "I would be happy to speak with any of the older children who are interested in the army; with your permission, of course."

...and I thnk that's the most Alleran has ever said.

"Sorry to scare him. We were passing through and saw the boy in danger. It really wasn't a big deal." Alleran replies as he takes out a rag and begins wiping clean the axe.

He continues by asking, "My name is Alleran Odeber. I am with the Diamond Regiment. We could use your help. I don't know if you've heard of the troubles in Falcon's Hollow, but we were sent to the woods to hunt for ingredients for a cure. They're in a bad way and we need to get these back to the herbalist as quickly as possible. Would you happen to have a horse? One of us could ride for town and deliver the goods while the rest wait for them to return with the horse."

Elara's halfway House is the local orphanage. Elara opened it near the start of the Goblinblood Wars (4697). It is still very much in use.

Alleran's other thought was that they may actually have a horse at the halfway house. If so, one of the character's could ride ahead and deliver the ingredients even faster.

EDIT: Having read the IC thread, with a rope strung across the river, could we hand wave Hound's crossing?

Liberty's Edge

Male Human Ranger (falconer, trapper) 2, Perception +6(+9 vs. traps), Survival +6(+7 to track), Geography +5

I was a bit confused because I had Alleran indicate a route of just off of due south. I went back and looked to see that I said the lumber camp instead of saying Elara's Halfway House, which is what is almost due south. Now Alleran (meaning me) vaguely recalls that the halfway house may be in disuse, but it seems like roughly 14 miles to the halfway house and less than 10 miles on a road (outside of heavy weather) would be the fastest route. Whichever. I think the fastest route with the CON checks is fine.
