Silver Crusade 1/5

Ran Penumbral Accord --

"If the PCs successfully rescue the Blakros daughters,
Hamaria is incredibly grateful, granting the PCs the rare
privilege of keeping any loot they may have uncovered
while in the museum, and turning a blind eye to the fact
that some of that loot may have actually belonged to the
collection itself. If the PCs also succeeded in destroying
or permanently deactivating the Wightir Conjunction,
the Blakros family feels secure in their freedom from
the Penumbral Accords. In this case, in thanks to the
Pathfinder Society, the Blackros family offers even closer
collaboration between their museum and the Society on
future endeavors."

Okay -- in the first sentence -- the 'rare privilege' means what in game terms? Does it mean I can jot down on the rewards sheet the things that were looted from the museum along with their value beyond the normal reward sheet hard numbers? I mean, it's pretty funny considering the most valuable object from the mission was USED during the mission.

Do I give the object to the player -- it's virtually worthless as an item OTHER than flavor text for the player. It's the ceremonial dagger of Zon-Kuthon, which had a pricetag attached for value. The other item kept from the museum was the thigh bone of a brontosaurus -- from the dinosaur display cases in the beginning of the mission. An improvised weapon on the part of a character.

Did I screw up there? Or what should I have done? It does say that you do get the rare privilege of keeping it -- or was that just a poorly worded flavor text thing?

Help! :)

Kyle -- You are a killer GM. :)

I know that Fallen Fortress can get deadly at the end. I was very close to that very final demise just today! Also, IN the wagon -- there's something that prevents problems. Also I believe the boon from First Steps I gives you access to things that make that not a problem. See also: Endure Elements -- a spell Wizards often have. Also, asking questions of the Venture Captain in the story, like -- what kind of weather are we expecting -- might prompt purchases before leaving town. :)

Oh, and I won't be able to run a game tomorrow. It's too darned late already, and I'm just now getting to bed.

Fyi, an enhancement bonus to armour is still classed as an armour bonus; deflection is something entirely different.

Oh!

That makes sense. What about the Piercing Rapier? Why is that magical item considered fair 'magic item' game, while something else magical (again, I'm only assuming that gunpowder is alchemical, therefore, according to the APG, magical) the gun, is getting such a hard time?

Would it be better if I called it Butterfield's Bypassing Bullets? And instead of a rifle, I throw a bullet at someone and it bypasses their armor? :)

No snark intended, is it just a flavor thing?

Well, not to throw fire on gasoline but I think it's worth stating that:

Magic Missiles hit automatically. Because they're magic.
The guns I'd use in my campaign would be for all intents and purposes alchemical devices (which utilize an alchemist's own innate power to create) -- i.e. Magic.

Touch AC is (according to my character sheet) when you bypass armor for the purposes of determining AC. It's not 'flat-footed'. It's essentially a mechanic that says 'bullets ignore worn armor'. Sort of like the Piercing Rapier in the Pathfinder core book. :)

Earlier in the thread someone talked about how your armor would protect against a variety of things all the way through 20th level. But that's not true, especially of trolls, who can rend armor, or someone with the feats capable of breaking armor/weapons (I think it was called Sunder). Also, you should probably wear magical armor when fighting incorporeal creatures (who also ignore basic material armor).

However, I think that the magical deflection modifiers are separate from the physical properties of the armor, if I recall properly. So a +3 Plate would be +3 armor without the additional material armor when determining AC for touch AC. (Magical enhancement, right?)

I'm fairly new to Pathfinder, but I don't know if guns are altogether broken, especially in the way that Alchemists and alchemical devices are described for this game world.

Essentially, I'd only argue in favor bullets bypassing armor because they're magical devices.

Love the game, still, though. :)

Objectively, D&D lit tends to be crap. Linear plots, shallow character development, convoluted story lines, absolutely nothing of substance in most cases.

But, fantasy and sci-fi in general aren't D&D lit. The product of the genre ranges from brilliant to garbage, just like any other published fiction genre.

I'm a fan of the Dragonlance stuff. Also, pretty much anything the Hickman/Weis team up produces. :)

Drizzt is a little stretched to fit all kinds of situations because of his popularity with a very passionate base of fans.

Also, on the subject of fantasy movies that don't suck, I know it's not a film, but the Game of Thrones series looks to be pretty cool.

That being said, I'm a little confused by exactly what the prizes of this contest are.

What's your passion? If it's writing, and hoping one day to do enough of that to live a normal life with writing, then the prize is beyond simple 'things'. It's a chance to fulfill an actual dream. For some, it's publication, for others, a chance to whittle out a piece of Golarion for themselves. The payment for this job, if you are the ultimate winner, is that you get an actual job that showcases your talent, and opens the industry's eyes to your ability. Beyond simple monetary gain, or a gift basket, you get validation and professional experience. If writing fantasy/game design/writing is your passion, then your prize is a dear thing. If it's not your passion, then, I don't know what you'd want to be in the contest for anyway. :)

Wealth comes on the heels of passion fulfilled.

It doesn't make much sense, really. All an artist needs to do is put some of his/her work online. People who like it just need to look at it. Writers/game designers have a harder time showing off their skills, as whatever they do would have to be read/tested by people who would need to care about it long enough ;)

In fact there is (was?) threads here on Paizo's boards where people would ask for some character drawing and artists would do it for show. The same goes to some of previous years Superstar submissions.

So, showing off your work (as an artist) is easy. No need for a Superstar contest

while that might be true it'll cost you years of time to find a paid commision like this

I don't want to yawp on and on, except to say that nothing you do worthwhile happens overnight. Yes, it will 'cost' you years of time to get a continuous freelancing or even permanent gig doing artwork. I myself do artwork, but have kept my mighty yawp closed on this whole contest except to say this: I have a freelance gig that's semi-permanent. The cost of time in this profession has been a thousand percent worth it. You learn lots of things, important things, by taking all that time.

Professionalism is something that must be learned on one's own. I don't think anyone can teach you how to be a professional in your dealings with companies that hire you.

I'm not as good as some artists out there, but I'm far better than I was when I started, and I'm not as good as I'm going to be next year. It's taken three or four years (if you go by paid versus unpaid spec work) to get to be in the mix with some folks in the freelancing community, and I still have a lot to learn...

Take the time. The cost of your years reaps TONS of benefits down the road.

STOLEN. :D

Can't wait to present this to my group.

Thanks guys!

Looks like lots of folks have great ideas about this adventure. :D

Hey guys,

I'm new to Pathfinder, though I was thoroughly enamored of it when watching play unfold at GenCon this year. The fact remains that my gaming group has once again flourished because of it, and luckily, my FLGS is full of fans of Pathfinder.

We're currently playing Adventure Path 31 Stolen Land from the Kingmaker series. My players are going NUTS for it, love the setting AND the exploration.

I need to know if anyone's developed a good timeline for NPC events out there / something that quantifies a solid timeframe for the Stag Lord's movement/attacks, and the arrival of the Brevoy nobles to the Outpost.

If you're in my game, PLEASE don't read this thread. :)

Just wanted to state how much I'm enjoying Pathfinder and especially the Adventure Paths.
