Investigation 3k2: 3d10 ⇒ (5, 4, 7) = 16

Hideyoshi cocks his head at Katsorou's statement but does not hesitate when Xiaoxing draws her weapon. He draws his blade, and follows her in.

Sorry for the delay gang, what the holiday weekend and all. Will get on track today.

"Then that is where we go. If you need to speak with Pitiful, Kitsuki-san, please make it quick."

Thank you. Wasn't really sure what to do, then I just went with the samurai thing.

"Trap? I would expect no less. That should not stop us though. Is there anything else we may learn here? Kitsuki-san?"

Investigation 3k2: 3d10 ⇒ (6, 5, 4) = 15 =11

What do we know about astronomy? Is that a thing? If so, is there an eclipse coming? 'Sun knocked from the sky...'

Her look unsettles Hideyoshi. It is not...what he expected.
'...what did you see Battle Maiden, on the far side...'

"Perhaps," he begins cautiously, "we should seek out the two Scorpions that captured us."

Question: Are we still on a time clock for this adventure? Or did we stop the countdown by killing the Oni? I am under the assumption the Oni's growing power was the crux of the timer, in that we had until dawn to stop it. At least we were told Ryoko Owari would burn tomorrow.

Another thing, should we go back and enlist the help of the man and his brother? The ones who had us captured then released us? Maybe he would owe for saving his brother?

Just a thought.

Hideyoshi's eyes smolder, but his voice remains calm. "Oruku-sama, do not hold back on those comrades of his. We are running out of time."

Hideyoshi has had enough.

Hirano no Kaze flashes like lightning, taking the madman in the neck, severing his head. The gout of blood sprays the wall behind him, and the offending head rolls into the corner, the mad cackle still on its lips. Just as quickly as it appeared the sacred Akodo blade returns to its sheathe.

Hideyoshi's eyes never leave his target as he growls: "I will not suffer madmen to live. I will not suffer a madman to insult us so." He looks up at the others, gaze taking in each one, finally settling on Xiaoxing. "The Lion sees, the Lion acts. It is our way." Under his breath, he mutters: '...and I will not have him insult you that way...'

So. I didn't roll for several reasons: 1)Cinematics. If we gave the word, the Thunder Guard would have done it anyway. 2) I do have quite the combat skill, combined with the Iajitsu skill. 3)I figured he wasn't going to talk. Sorry.

"Hai." Hideyoshi bows, and accepts the sake gratefully.

Bent over to examine the forge, Hideyoshi nods to himself in appreciation of the forge and what it represents. When the Thunder Guard arrive and deliver their message, he stands upright.

"Development? How so?" He queries the men. "We must go at once!"

Hideyoshi says nothing. He does not have the honeyed tongue that is needed in this situation! He does keep his eyes open for anything amiss, out of place, or new. Noting the forge, he makes way over to look closely at it - without touching or moving anything.

Hideyoshi fumes. All of this inaction was beginning to wear on his nerves.

Then he laughs aloud. ...how like we are to the generalities of our families! The Lion does not like inaction, they say. Solves all problems at the sharp end of a katana, they say! I think I am different, yet here I stand impatient we are not 'doing something'...haha! A true Lion I am indeed!...

The young Lion finds his center, and waits - patiently - to follow Xiaoxing.

Hideyoshi steps up beside Xiaoxing. He does not speak, but looks at Shirya eye-to-eye as she explains what will happen. There is no mistaking the look - should there be any trouble, Shirya dies first.

I'm not assuming he knows about the Oni, what I'm assuming is he is hurrying to get out of the city because he knows what is going to happen. The question was referring to the point that the disaster in the city may be averted by the Oni's death. He wouldn't know that, so would still be in a hurry. The thought of being detained and not escaping may get him to do something rash, like: 'you'll never take me alive coppers!' draw sword, die violently, roll credits.

"You us an explanation for whatever the magistrate asks of you, it would be best to remember that."

"Shirya-san, since when did the Suzume reside at Yogo castle? Nothing about this story makes sense, and I am out of patience. You will come with us to spend your night with the Thunder Guard. We will check your story in the morning."

I'm trying to force his hand here. Maybe he will panic knowing what's coming...or is that over now that the Oni is dead?

Honestly, I'm at a loss on this. As far I can tell, any of these guys can just say 'it's not me, it's him', and we have nothing to go on.

Hideyoshi leans in towards Kuni Eriasu. "Eriasu-sama, what was the date of the signature on those papers. After the Emerald Magistrates death, perhaps? If so, how did he sign them?"

"It would be a shame for you both should you have to spend the evening answering questions with the magistrates, Shinya-san. I am sure there are suitable doctors here in the city to care for her while you do so." Now the menace in Hideyoshi's voice is very clear. He looks from Shinya to Sakyo and back again.

"Tell me, is it typical for Crab samurai to make their women with child work so? Where are the peasants who should be doing this labor for you?"

"Such a hurry, Shiryu-san. And during the Bon Festival no less. What is your need for haste? It is very...unseemly...to miss such a grand event as the Bon Festival."

Hideyoshi's words are pleasant, but his tone - and his eyes - are not.

Investigation 3k2: 3d10 ⇒ (8, 7, 2) = 17 =15

Hideyoshi looks on, the scowling Lion. He is content with Hida's story, but does not show it.

"We need to catch Shinya before he leaves..."

I was hoping someone would jump in and play bad cop.

Enter the bad cop...

"These masks are involved in something that the Crab have dedicated their existence to fighting against. They are not 'normal' in the sense that they are merely masks for the Festival. If you're name is tied to them...well, let's say that this will not bode well for the Crab."

Hidyoshi's knuckles whiten where they grip his katana, but his voice remains calm. "Not any mask. A very particular mask." He looks to Katsorou to explain.

Despite her bonds, Hideyoshi kneels to keep Xiaoxing's arms while she thrashes in the throes of whatever afflicts her. He does not care that she cries out in an undignified manner, all his focus is helping her - in her helplessness - to save some face.

When she wakens, he cannot help but smile. "You have returned to us Battle Maiden. After wielding the Sword and destroying the Oni. I...we...feared you were lost." Gently he releases the bonds keeping her on the litter, and politely avoids noticing her disheveled state. Then he softly begins filling her in on the details.

Hideyoshi stands behind Eriasu, looking both imposing and very Lion-like. He does not have time for rude samurai this night. But Muchi is Crab, and Eriasu will know how to deal with his kinsman.

Making sure to retrieve the Jade Sun, Hideyoshi follows Eriasu.

Hideyoshi looks on at the crowds, pressing the Thunder Guard and calling out about the supposed gimmick.

'...often the sheep that require your Valor do not know they needed it, Little Lion. it is one of the hardest things, being a hero of the Clan; to perform your Duty without acclaim, without fanfare. true Glory finds the hero without him needing to seek it out. remember that, Hideyoshi...' Yet another example of something Grandfather has said that the young Lion did not understand...until now.

Face a mask of calm, inside the Lion seethes as he retrieves his weapons from Gate. His thoughts are on Xiaoxing, and where they had taken her, how she was doing, what could be done to save her.

'...say something Gate. say something foolish, and this night will claim another life...'

"Are there any other distinguishing marks or notes on what we found that would point to one family of the Crab more than another?"

Prepare to be amazed!

Hideyoshi looks down at Xiaoxing, concern carving deep lines of worry on his face. "I do not have such knowledge. Surely someone in the city does?" He pauses for a moment to look at Doji Oruku. "We must help them both, but the Thunderguard can assist with Whisper. Xiaoxing is our responsibility."

Hideyoshi bends down and very carefully uses his cloak to wrap his hand. Then he grasps the Blade of Secrets and re-sheathes it. Securing the blade, he bends down and picks up Xiaoxing in his arms. "We must find that person. Now."

'...do not leave us, Battle Maiden, there is much yet to do....'

Hideyoshi grits his teeth, building the fury of the Matsu attack forms.

Full Attack 7k4: 7d10 ⇒ (9, 5, 6, 8, 1, 8, 5) = 42 =31
Damage 7k2 +14: 7d10 ⇒ (7, 1, 1, 9, 2, 10, 10) = 40 explosions: 2d10 ⇒ (5, 1) = 6 =56!!!!

With a loud 'KIAI!' Hideyoshi cuts a deep gash in the Oni's side with the fire blade. The stench of burnt flesh pervades the room. A slight smile turns the corners of his mouth as as sets himself to strike again.

Hideyoshi continues his assault from the other side of the Oni, trying give himself and Xiaoxing as much tactical advantage as he can.

Full Attack 7k4: 7d10 ⇒ (1, 3, 3, 9, 4, 4, 4) = 28 Seriously???

Unfortunately, his desire to avoid hitting Whisper causes his stroke to go astray...

And as for the damage codes of the shard of jade and the katana of fire:

I should have said. I was thinking just unarmed damage for the shards, but I won't undo the damage roll. The biggest best shard can count as a tanto :)

And the katana of fire is 2k2, just like a regular katana. Upon doublechecking the spell, I see it does add the wielder's honor to the damage roll. So I'll tack on another 7 damage that Hideyoshi dealt!

So does that add +7 in addition to the +8 I get for the Lion's Roar technique? ruh roh, here comes agro...

EDIT: Something else I noticed: I've been rounding up to +8 (Honor is 7.5) for the Lion's Roar. Is that correct?

Do we know: does the Jade Sun have any effect on the Oni? time to find out.

As the first sounds of the expected Oni attack, Hideyoshi draws the Jade Sun forth and hands to the Crab. "I suspect my hands will be rather more occupied, Eiriasu-san. This may aid us." Then he moves to accept the fire-sword from Katsuyoshi. He tests the blade, finding the right point of balance.

Willpower 2k2: 2d10 ⇒ (4, 9) = 13 +8 =17

He points the Katana of Fire at the Oni as it crashes through the wall and pauses. "Now you die." Then the Lion bursts into action.

Full Attack 7k4: 7d10 ⇒ (7, 6, 4, 3, 10, 8, 9) = 47'slpode: 1d10 ⇒ 1 =35
Damage 7k2: 7d10 ⇒ (2, 7, 2, 2, 8, 2, 9) = 32 +8 =25

To be honest, I don't know what the damage is for this weapon.

'...no armor, no weapons. surely this is laughable. given a chance, I will kill Gate myself...'

Hideyoshi nods at Katsorou's suggestion. "As will I Oruku-sama. Vengeance for your kin belongs to you. We will make an end worthy of legend, should any be left alive to hear it."

Hideyoshi eyes the sword, noting its fine workmanship. He looks from the blade to Doji Oruku, expecting the man to claim his kinsman's weapon.

"Where is the sword now?"

"Did you know what you had? What you were getting yourself into?"

<stern face>

Just trying to be the 'silent muscle' so to speak. Hideyoshi is still stewing over Gate.

'...and so, Whisper.' Hideyoshi holds a stern visage while waiting for the man to speak.

Hideyoshi waits. ...'time is wasting'...

Hideyoshi keeps silent, his frustration still boiling under the surface. 'best to let Xiaoxing handle this, I've said enough...'

Hideyoshi contributes as well. The way this night is going, some luck from the ancestors will be more than appreciated.
