Korvosa has not been kind to Adriel. Adriel was bought up in a working household with her alcoholic father always at work or at the pub and her drug addict mother, who may as well have not been a presence in her life.
Adriel found 'true love' early at 17 and through her naivety and yearning for someone to love her back, found herself pregnant. As soon as she told the soon-to-be father, a son of a merchant, of the situation, he dismissed her and refused all knowledge of her and the child's existence.
Adriel gave birth and vowed to give her child a better life than her parents gave her. (Fortunately?) both of Adriel's parents passed from illness within the first two years her child's birth. She inherited the small shack that her parents called home which meant a safe(ish) place for her to reside.
It was a struggle for Adriel, who still had to pay for their food and worked as few hours as she could manage with the Town Guard, a reliable, if not good, source of income. In those hours, she had to be creative to find ways for other's to care for Teodor, her son.
Life was not comfortable for them both, but she made sure to educate him as well as she could and give him some joyful experiences, being around for him as much as her work would allow.
Ten years pass, and Teodor now is able to be on his own whilst Adriel completes her short shifts with the guard. One day, Adriel's world collapses around her as, when she returns home, Teodor is nowhere to be found. She searches high and low for any clues as to where he could have gone, searching their favourite haunts and asking all of his friends. Nobody has seen hide nor hair of him.
Adriel reported it to the Town Guard that same night but they barely moved an inch to support her. In a fit of despair after 5 days of no sign or movement, she quit her job to dedicate her whole time to find Teodor.
After 3 weeks, Adriel's minimal savings run dry and she has to find a part-time job to pay the bills. She could not bring herself to work for the town guard again after their complete failure and finds a private role as a guard for the Prosperity Bank.
Over 3 more months, Adriel's life transforms. By day, she guards the bank's front doors watching and listening to everything around her. By night, she searches for clues for her son, and in the meantime does some of the work that she believes the town guard should be doing better.
The Hummingbird - Adriel's alter ego - A local vigilante that has recently popped up, known for using melodies as a distraction before striking from the shadows.
