![]() Alternately, if your campaign is set in Golarion/Osirion, you can strip out bits the MASSIVE amount of material from Southlands and drop it in...there will be two dozen plus new creatures with their own Bestiary, a slew of new feats, spells and archetypes, a motherlode of desert/jungle oriented material that you can use whole cloth or piecemeal... :-) ![]()
![]() I think the idea of using cunning traps, especially ones involving deadly oozes and slimes, ones the party might have difficulty saving against, is a good idea. Have the mooks laugh and run away each time the party falls for another trap, leading them deeper and deeper into the Underdark, until the exhausted and spent PCs run full tilt into a CR12-14 Drow war party ambush... ![]()
![]() The assumption was that, unless you are using our alternate traits, you were using the standard stats and abilities in the Pathfinder Reference Document: http://paizo.com/pathfinderRPG/prd/advancedRaceGuide/featuredRaces/aasimars .html#_aasimars Sorry if that wasn't clear in the text. Glad you are enjoying the series, and if you like the PDFs, please post reviews here on the review tab. Endzeitgeist can't do it all by himself...... (and if there is stuff you don't like, definitely post a review too, so we can improve on it)! ![]()
![]() Kajehase wrote: I'm terrible at remembering to review stuff, but we'll see when I print this in a week or two. Would love to hear your thoughts, Kajehase...we always want to know what players and DMs think of our new products...good, bad, indifferent - all feedback is useful. Please review as you are able. And thanks for buying from the Kobolds! ![]()
![]() necromental wrote: What do subtypes such as fey (outsider), fey (drake, esoteric), aberration (fey) mean? Also, typo, in the Aridni entry greater invisibility is listed as both spell-like and supernatural ability. Good questions, Necromental - those are both typos - it should be "greater invisibility (Su)" (supernatural, not spell like) and fey (aberration), not aberration (fey). As far as the subtypes go, it means for any relevant rules application, they are treated as the base type of creature with the fey template acquired or inherited. Thanks for the catches! Wolfgang and I will have Marc fix those going forward. ![]()
![]() They are humanoids in shape, but are still considered native outsiders for creature type and effects, as far as I know. I haven't heard of this being "officially" banned, but I wouldn't be surprised if DMs banned or nerfed it to keep play balance. Definitely incorrect. In their PF Bestiary entry (p.245 in my copy), it clearly says their Strength damage attack is "a negative energy effect. A creature dies if this Strength damage equals or exceeds its actual Strength score." Normally any ability drain (besides Con) causes unconsciousness, but the Shadow Bestiary entry gives death by Strength drain as a special ability. It is the "specific trumping the general" per the Pathfinder design philosophy. ![]()
![]() Sometimes you gotta tweak the legends a little, just to keep the players on their toes. The PF Bestiary 2 already has classic/legendary Leprechauns and Red Caps, so we were going in a different direction in order to fill in other gaps in the fey line up...hope you enjoy playing them as much as I enjoyed writing these nasty little beasties...! ![]()
![]() Marc Radle wrote: Hey, wow! Dark Fey debuted at #5 on Paizo's Top Downloads From Other Companies list this week! Congrats one and all! Thanks, Marc! This one sat on the easel for a long time, while we fiddled with the colors and shapes and forms, as it were, to make sure they were just right. Glad everybody seems to like it! Thanks to everyone who worked on this and made it look great, esp. the artists, and the rules developers/playtesters, who make me look smarter than I actually am; and to Wolfgang, for getting it out there for everyone to have fun with it! Thanks again! ![]()
![]() Gancanagh wrote: Thanks Heine! What is the Clurichaun like? Does it wear red like in the real legend? There are Red Caps already in the PF Bestiary 2 (which are excellent, I think Adam Daigle created them), so we didn't feel the need to duplicate an already great monster. In this case, Clurichaun is an old term in Irish/Gaelic mythology, and generally refers to the more vengeful version of Leprechauns. This fey creature came from the idea that the elves of Midgard eat meat, and therefore must have had herdsmen. So our Clurichaun were the hunters, herders and equerry of the Elven nobility. The idea is some stayed behind after the Retreat to help undo the damage of the human rebellions and the Mage Wars. While not inherently evil, Clurichaun are hostile to all humans and will often attack human wizards, magi and sorcerers on sight. They make very good guides, scouts and hunters. They are sometimes found as thralls or rangers for the Red Hags of Midgard, especially in the duchy of Verrayne. Of course, they were designed to be as flexible as possible, with a singular magical attack ability, to make them easy to drop into any wooded campaign area, as a fun and unique challenge (or ally?) to any low-level party. Enjoy! ![]()
![]() Yes, I have been running "Fang" the Darakhul monk in convention play, and other than her pale skin and ....unusual....dietary needs, she fits in pretty well with most partys. If you can have clockwork sorcerers and half-orcs throwing fireballs about, a pale, toothy monk or fighter that likes her steaks raw doesn't really stick out that much with most PC groups.... ![]()
![]() nightflier wrote: How is Cleric Militant different than Crusader archetype? It is a bit more Midgard-centric, with powers and abilities geared toward their role as protectors and warriors of the Wastelands. They gain special divine abilities that make them fearsome in combat, and they also gain some ranger-like abilities that serve them well as Guardians of the Wastelands. Hope that answers your question. ![]()

I am talking to Wolfgang about the possibility of a Northlands and/or Southlands Player's Guide(s) - keep buying the current PDFs, tell your friends about them, blog about them, corner Wolfgang at PaizoCon this weekend and tell him you want more Midgard goodies...the more likely he is to let me take a run at writing additional Guides.... ;-) ![]()
![]() Cheapy wrote: Fun fact: that rule isn't actually stated anywhere. They forgot tocarry it over in the transition to PF. But your can infer it from a number of other rules :-) @DystopianDream, if you look at the Boar in the Paizo Bestiary (One - page 36 in my copy), it lists the boar as Medium, and the Dire Boar is Large, so even if you have a house rule that a mount needs to be one size larger (which doesn't seem to be an official rule since halflings can ride dogs according to the Core Rulebook), it shouldn't be an issue. ![]()
![]() OSW, Cheapy and Quiche Lisp, if I could ask you to go to the other tab and write a quick formal review, even if it is just a few sentences or a cut and paste from comments here? This and the 7C supplement are sorely lacking in formal reviews, esp. compared to earlier installments. If you liked it, or esp. if you didn't, we would appreciate the feedback for prospective buyers and to improve future products...thanks! ![]()

Thanks Quiche. Like Mead, I would ask you to share your love with a formal review on the other tab (even if it is simple as a cut and paste from your great comments here....). This product is strangely lacking in official reviews (good bad or indifferent) compared to the other PGs....thanks again! ![]()
![]() That is a complete, if cursory, summary of the Wastelands Summoner,Cheapy - thank you. I will mention the new base form is the "tentacled" form, perfect for creepy Wasted West summoners. We also need to mention a new "Cleric Miltant" archetype, a "Feywarden" Magus archetype, a "Wasteland Seeker" Ranger archetype (for fighting mutant nasties in the desert), new Cavalier Orders, a new Witch Archetype (with new Hexes!), as well as a "Wastelands Druid" archetype (for fighting or mastering mutant nasties in the desert), and a Wizard archetype "Warmage", for arcane types that like big explosions....Also new spells, new magic, new unique feats and traits - check it out! ![]()
![]() Glad you like it, OSW, you are one of our most insightful reviewers. Please feel free to post a formal review ASAP...and yes, the art is once again even more awesome than I imagined. Wolfgang certainly has the ability to find the best artists for the job. Makes my writing look even better than it is.... ;-) And yes, it looks like there will be at least one more Midgard PG, we have the Rothenian Plains PG in the pipeline (just sent out the art brief), but it will probably be a couple of months, at least, before it comes out. So keep telling your friends and get them to buy the current PDFs, so that I can talk Wolfgang into letting me pitch some more (Northlands or Southlands PG anyone?) !!! In the meanwhile, make sure to go over to the Kobold Press website and enter in the Lost Magic contest, and get your spell published by Kobold Press (and win cool stuff!). Enjoy! Adam ![]()
![]() Yes, the assumption is that they are oversized boars, you can do it however you want: advanced, dire, just size them up one category....might make a good KP blog post or Gygax article: The Goblin Boars of the Wasted West...keep the feedback coming! On a side note, the Player's Guide to the Seven Cities (Warring Italianesque city states) is now out, let me know what you think of that one as well...and Kobold Press is having a spell design contest - get your spell in the lexicons and win cool prizes at the same time: http://www.koboldpress.com ![]()
![]() thanks guys, we tried to work out the original overpowered bits on the revised version, and the Wasted West and Seven Cities PDFs have gone through additional rules iterations with the editors to weed that sort of stuff out. Same with the upcoming Rothenian Plains Player's Guide. I have bruises from the Nerf Bats....on a side note, check out the Lost Magic contest over at the Kobold Press website, see if you can do better than me at designing a new spell, and win cool prizes....! http://www.koboldpress.com/k/front-page15305.php ![]()

I'd like to thank the members of the academy, Wolfgang, Miranda, Marc, Chris and a whole bunch of others that make me look smarter and more talented than I actually am. More to come...! ![]()
![]() *Blushing* Thanks for the feedback, OSW, I am glad to see you liked all the same things I really loved writing. "Barsonaut" is a play on Barsella/Argonaut, i.e. a Barsellan sailor that was changed by the voyage. Nothing to do directly with invisibility, I guess, but I liked the name so much I just had to use it somewhere. Thanks again for supporting Kobold Press, with both your purchase, and your feedback. More Midgard Goodness coming! Watch this space.... ![]()

Thanks, OSW! Hope you like reading it as much as Brandon, Wolfgang and I enjoyed writing it...please post your feedback ASAP, as I always appreciate your insights on our products...thanks for your business! ![]()
![]() We don't mess with the 'Wolf! :-) Hope you all enjoy this as much as the previous releases...we are working on finishing up the last bits on the Seven Cities Guide to release that ASAP...and if these continue to sell well, I might get Wolfgang to let me write one or two more; so to paraphrase the Chicago saying, "Please buy early and often...!". Also, keep an eye on Gygax Magazine for Midgard and Wasted West goodies...we have some treats in the works (not final) for that resource as well...! ![]()
