So, How Do I Use Syrinscape in my Pathfinder Game?

You're playing Pathfinder on game night, and you're ready to add Syrinscape's custom-made Pathfinder Adventure Path SoundPacks to the session. Simply follow these step-by-step instructions for bringing epic sound to your gaming table.

How do I prepare?

  • Download the Syrinscape Fantasy Player for free.
  • Stock-up on custom-made Pathfinder Adventure Path SoundPacks, created specifically for the Pathfinder RPG's most-popular Adventure Paths, and don't miss the official monster sounds created to bring the most horrific creatures of Golarion to life, in earth rumbling surround.
  • Create your Sound Campaign, where you can organize your sounds so everything you need for the session is right at your fingertips.

What audio equipment should I use?
You want the floors to rumble with those dragon roars, don't you? Syrinscape will work on any PC, MAC, Android Tablet or iPad, but to get the most out of Syrinscape's beautiful audio, we recommend plugging into a Surround Decoder via HDMI, or connecting to a portable Bluetooth speaker. Something with a crisp treble and a good dose of bass will really help maximize the impact of Syrinscape's immersive audio.

How easy is Syrinscape to work during the game?
Very easy! Let's say you're starting in a medieval town, because really, most proper Pathfinder adventures start there, right? Syrinscape has several town settings, such as "Brindol Town" or "Local Heroes" from the Pathfinder Adventure Path Burnt Offerings SoundPack. Once you've selected the town setting, you can choose your MOOD for different flavors of town life, such as Main Street, Market Street, and of course, a tavern. When you're ready to begin, simply touch the MOOD button, and Syrinscape takes care of the rest by gently fading up a highly realistic town ambience. Every now and then a cart might go past, or a hawker selling their wares might cry out, or the local bard might chime in with a tune every now and then. Syrinscape does all the work.

What next?
Syrinscape provides so much more to your gaming session than dynamic ambient background sounds. Are your players ready for the big dramatic reveal, like an epic dragon raid? Choose your dragon from the Syrinscape library, and when you're ready, touch the MOOD button to set off the chaos. It's best not to warn your players, so you get the maximum impact from the first terrifying roar!

Is that really all there is to it?

Pathfinder Adventure, Rulebook Subscriber

I have tried the previous version of Syrinscape and really liked it! I am done with the RotR AP, though, but I love the idea of tailor-made soundtracks! Any idea what is going to be the next supported AP?

Is there any way to get Syrinscape to play over voice chat programs like teamspeak or ventrillo?

I've got it working in TeamSpeak. It doesn't sound nearly as cool through that as it does normally, but it's still pretty nifty.

The EASY way to do it is to use two devices connected to TeamSpeak. One you talk through, the other one plays Syrinscape. You'll have to set the Syrinscape device's default Recording Device under Sound Settings to Stereo Mix. This takes what comes out of your speakers and dumps it into your microphone. If your sound card doesn't support Stereo Mix, try using a program like Virtual Audio Cable or VB Cable. Check out the link in the hard section for help setting that up.

The HARD way is if you only have one device that can use TeamSpeak.
1. Download a program that adds a virtual audio channel. Virtual Audio Cable is supposed to be good; I use VB Cable since it's free and works for this.
2. Open the properties of your TeamSpeak shortcut and add "-nosingleinstance" after the Target path (no quotations).
3. Follow these directions starting at Step 2 to set up a profile for Syrinscape on TeamSpeak. Syrinscape doesn't have an option for Step 5, so read on.

These steps need to be performed each time you use the program.
4. Right-click on your speaker icon in the System Tray and select Playback Devices. Select Line 1 or CABLE Output or whatever the program you used added and make it the default device.
5. Launch Syrinscape. Make any audio settings changes you want to. I set it to Mono since TeamSpeak is mono output.
6. Return your default playback device to what is normally is. You will now not be able to hear Syrinscape except through TeamSpeak.
7. Launch TeamSpeak twice and use your bookmarks from the tutorial to log in as yourself and as Syrinscape.
8. Everyone should right click on the Syrinscape profile and adjust the volume to a comfortable level. -15dB or so is usually good.

That should do it.

What will please people even more is we are heading towards a player that will work online.

Kind of like this:
1. The GM will have a MASTER version which she uses normally.
2. The GM master Player will send server calls to SLAVE players on all the nonlocal machines.
3. None of Syrinscape's high quality audio will he jammed down the internet, just audio cues.

Sounds good?!?!?

For the moment though us the instructions above, they are excellent!

We are announcing the next Adventure Path we will be covering.... very soon! ;-)

Also expect lots more generic locations and monsters coming out in every middle month. There are three really good ones coming just next week!

Crossing my fingers for Wrath of the Righteous. Seriously, I'll sub the day its announced ;)

Sadly, I learned about Syrinscape the day before we wrapped up RotR :( If I ever re-run it though, I will definitely pick this up.

Any GM who uses any degree of sound in their games NEEDS this program. I've been using it for home games and PFS for months now, and my players always seem to have a good time and recall the adventures fondly. Accompany this program with music to play along with the mood (although many of the sound sets include music) and you can transport your players to towns, dripping wet dungeons, haunted houses, stormy beaches, and even dragon battles!

Sounds amazing! I've been using Syrinscape since well before you came out with anything directly related to Paizo and I think this announcement has made me more excited than any other you've made.

This way people can change the volume on their own computer to play it the way that works best for them.

Off Topic Kinda... I use the Program Soundtrack "Witchwood;Raining Again" to sleep to and to Simulate a rain storm for My Frogs and Geckos..

Thanks for this advice! I just started using Syrinscape and was able to get everything set up just right through TeamSpeak. It's working perfectly. :)
