George 09-23 attempts to start the shutdown process with his computer skills.
Computers: 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (12) + 17 = 29
I don't know if Seldszar's 24 is enough to succeed or if more than one success is required. :)

Mysticism: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (6) + 8 = 14
Trober panics and just starts pressing random buttons while praying to any god that will listen to save them.

The collective makes a strong argument for peace against the guardian, and while the latter doesn't stand down, he seems to be open to more argumentation. I will uphold my duty or die trying
Further argumentation requires : Culture, Engineering, Mysticism, or Physical Science. Rolling it takes a standard action, and only one success can be counted per round (multiple successes are needed)
Seldszar start the shutdown sequence. Xagyg and Anthetriss add further arguments to the Collective's plea, while George bypasses a first failsafe. Trober tries to circumvent the last one, but the definitive shutdown of the engine will take another while.
The guardian moves at the closest of the team, which turns out to be Arachne. To makes matters worse, two skeletal forms emerge from the maelstrom of souls in the middle of the room, and move at George and the professor.
Solar Weapon, Arachne: 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (19) + 17 = 362d6 + 12 ⇒ (6, 4) + 12 = 22
Hammer, George: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (19) + 11 = 301d6 + 7 ⇒ (4) + 7 = 11
Hammer, Dr A Prof: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (18) + 11 = 291d6 + 7 ⇒ (2) + 7 = 9

"Look - I do not know whether you are aware of it, but this facility has been here for a *very* long time. So long that its original purpose has been forgotten - the asteroid that it was based on has been turned into a pirate stronghold!
From the outside, we have been able to determine that the arcane engine is breaking down. Before long it will suffer a cataclysmic failure and explode, potentially destroying the River Between and its underlaying forces, causing unknown ripple effects across the Diaspora. Failure could occur in a few weeks or a few days.
Is that really something that you want to happen?"
Mysticism: 1d20 + 18 ⇒ (13) + 18 = 31.

Trober keeps pressing random buttons.

Dr. A-Prof awaits (redies) the Guardian's response before continuing.
However, they will fly 10 ft up & closer to avoid further undead attacks.

The skeleton nails George 09-23 with a solid hit with his hammer but the plating in his armor module absorbs a good deal of the damage from the blow (DR 5/-).
The android continues to attempt to shutdown the arcane engine.
Computers,Certainty bonus 1/day: 1d20 + 17 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 17 + 2 = 37
George 09-23 turns towards his witless companion who is mindlessly pressing buttons.
"Trober, be helpful and deal with the skeleton."

The guardian looks puzzled at Xagyg's words, and then stands down, bidding the skeletons to do the same. Look at these poor souls. Each of them made the ultimate sacrifice to build this engine, but though their torment is eternal, the engine was not built for eternity. Go on, do what is necessary, and perhaps a future generation will find a better way.
Combat over!
With the threat gone, George manages to finish the shutdown. The containment field begins to falter, but doesn't fade away immediately. It is clear though, that water is leaking out, boiling away into space, and in time the river will be dry.
Returning to the Riveter base Captain Okwana and Dr. Vox the group's return. The arcane engine has been powered down, we've learned. Thank you for securing a safe alternative to what would have been a catastrophic explosion.
We will return to Asteroid Y-47, the captain explains, it's our home after all, and we also have a duty to protect the remnants of the arcane engine. You have shut down the device, and we want to prevent that someone else might come along to reactivate or repurpose it.
Dr. Vox agrees The arcane engine is an important piece of Sarcesian heritage, and it must be be protected as a historical treasure. Our presence here is also needed to prepare the inhabitants of the Diaspora for what is coming for them...
We're nearing the end! Can you all roll day jobs, and I will post the conclusion later.

Seldszar shrugs "Rather than capture and kidnap a bunch of scientists these people should have just called the Starfinders, we had the problem solved before lunchtime" the drow shrugs with a certain 'Apostae arrogance'.

![]() |

George 09-23 nods at Seldszar's comments. Clearly the kidnapping and violence was entirely unnecessary.
No day job for George. :)

![]() |

Xagyg nods.
"Agreed. The echoes of the past need to be preserved, so that we do not forget where we have come from... and so the lessons of the past are not lost.
My people learned that the hard way."

Seldszar shrugs "Rather than capture and kidnap a bunch of scientists these people should have just called the Starfinders, we had the problem solved before lunchtime" the drow shrugs with a certain 'Apostae arrogance'.
Antethriss arrogantly nods in support of these words. Starfinders solve any problems better. And the Drow Strafinders... He grins significantly.
no day job

Chronicles are here!. Special edition, hope you like them!

Thanks again - always a pleasure playing in one of your games.
Dr. A-Prof got a trading card of themselves as well for their special item.

Is Trober's chronicle supposed to only show his eyeballs in his portrait?

Thanks for running! :)

I've been told the drow twins are not actually twins, just some convergence of drow beauty standard. That is indeed them. Trober's eyes are only visible, because the rest of them is hiding behind a barrier.
Which might not be at all related to my inability to draw dromada
When the group returns to the Master of Stars, Fitch is positively shocked You did what?!
Well, given the options, you did the best you could she eventually admits. The solar stream has been preserved and you have bought the inhabitants of the Diaspora have some time to prepare for the River Between’s transition from river to solar stream.[/b]
I'll contact Celita and the Dataphiles immediately, so she can help the Society share resources and information with the inhabitants of the Diaspora. I'm sure there will be some fall-out from this, but it could have been much worse...
The end!

That's what I thought. It's a perfect portrait of Trober for sure. Thanks for the chronicle and the art. Looking forward to the next session.
