Orange shifts north to what looks a bit like a large cage door - which he flings open! The other two begin their approach, but in no particular hurry from the looks of it.

They seem to be more interested in what the bat is going to do. What bat do you say? Oh, the big damn bat that flies out of the cage door, spins around in the air to get its bearings, before bearing down on the group with great speed and agility! This bat has a wingspan the length of two humans, over-sized ears, and a squat, upturned snout with rows of needle-like teeth.

Mobats are magical giant bats with wolfish grins and immense wingspans. Survivors of a lost era, they are rarely seen beyond the dark forests and deep caves they haunt. Although mobats are omnivores, they vastly prefer the flavor of fresh meat over that of other prey.

Hmm... Fireball has a 40' diameter, so 'out of fireball formation' can mean 'too far apart to help each other'. Tradeoffs. Personally, I find sticking together generally has more upside than downside but I may be wrong in this case.

Durgan casts Shield (2 encounters) and moves back towards Mukluk, dropping his buckler as he moves.


Hearing Mukluk tell them to spread out and Kisaiya tell them to move behind her, Rory decides to abandon the idea of trapping the lower area and just get to the fight as quickly as possible. Moving into the tower area, he climbs onto Storm, telling the wolf, "Let's go Storm."

As he guided the wolf out beside Kisaiya he tells his friend. "I'll not leave you to face the dirty bi... um, the bat, alone."

Meanwhile Storm, stopping beside he cook, seeing the bat gives a happy yap. Catching bats was one of his favorite pastimes, so he waited for the bat to come near so he could snap at it.

The corbies close a bit, but seem to be willing, for now, to watch the fun (and they didn’t want to get screeched).

Spurred on by the dire corbies, the Mobat strikes back at those who have injured it, starting with Kisaiya.

Rory manages another pair of hits! He doesn’t quite bring down the bat however. Mukluk greases up the walkway, and though you’d think dire corbies could fly… they cannot. Durgan and Kisaiya both miss the bat, flitting about. It is however clearly on its last, uh, wings.

The Mobat clearly wants to leave, but commanded by the corbies it remains and strikes at Rory.

Since you can't 5' step through a hard corner, I assumed that getting into that square north of Rory would provoke an AOO from Green - which is why I didn't go there.

Chuckling as Storm drags the bloody Corbie to the ground, Rory cheers as his friend ended the dirty bird. "Well done Mukluk! Moose would be proud." Realizing he really didn't know if the mule would be happy of his vegetarian friend killing animal like creatures, Rory put it out of his mind as another Dire Corbie stepped over it's dead Rookery mate and attacked them. Ducking and dodging as best as he could in the saddle, Rory Slashed at the orange Corbie with his sword as Storm happily snapped at the dirty bird hoping to drag it to the ground as well.

Though Rory is a little bloody, the combat ends without serious injury. Which is good as the dire bat could have dug deep. Alas, it failed, as did the corbies.

As the screeching falters and quiets, you hear the ogrekin still wrestling. However, how long will it be before they too notice the silence?

Kisaiya reaches out to try seeing if her healing would work on Rory. She focuses and tries to channel the energies into him as she does when she lays on hands on herself, but nothing happens. It refuses to move from her to him. ”I’m sorry, Rory. It just doesn’t work for some reason. Maybe I’m doing it wrong.” She feels deeply that she is not doing it wrong, though. It’s just her.

The wrestling stops for a moment, but apparently just to catch the breath. It continues again.


As Mukluk finishes off the Dire Corbies, Rory holds Storm still as Kisaiya lays hands on him, Furrowing his brow he shrugs, as Durgan declairs he can't explain it. Breathing a little easier as Durgan heals him, Rory agrees, "Sorry Kisaiya I don't understand either, but I'm glad you're able to pray for yourself, that's something." Turning to Durgan, "Thanks Durgan I feel much better."

Gesturing towards the doors, "Why don't we see where those go?"

Hearing the word 'go' Storm practically jump towards the doors. Using his knees to slow the wolf down a little they move to the doors. Leaning in Rory inspects the doors for traps then listens to see if he can hear anything over the ogre boys wrestling.

Kisaiya nods as the others offer some consolation. ”Thank you.” If her healing only works on herself, then that’s just all the more reason she needs to be on the frontline.

She goes up to the double doors with Rory.

You open the untrapped, unlocked door.

Dozens of paintings of a towering humanoid figure with four wings, a bird’s head, and a scorpion’s tail decorate the walls of this room, seemingly painted in blood. Old pews sit in a line facing the eastern wall, where a hideously defaced statue of a winged woman stands - once a statue to Desna from the looks of it. Her wings have been hacked down the middle to give the impression of having four wings instead of two, her head removed and replaced with a crude carving of a leering bird’s head, and a long, barbed tail made of braided dried nettles hanging from her posterior.

A creature dressed in filthy robes caked with blood - filth that mats her feathers and smears her beak and talons, stands from prayer. She speaks in Abyssal.

”હું જોઉં છું કે મારા મિનિયન્સે મને નિષ્ફળ બનાવ્યો છે. મારે તમારી જાતને સંભાળવી પડશે.”

She draws her sword and faces the party (image) - another dire corby!
