Ting Tang
|
Ducking the wild crossbow quarrel fling overhead, ting visibly flinches when the flame monster slams into the half orc. Blurting out "Bloody 'Ell!" He continues continued working his way behind the odd flaming creature. Shifting his exotic bastard sword two shoulder height, he swings the blade towards the elemental's waist, then using it's momentum brought the blade back around a sliced at the creature again.
5 ft step, Full attack + 1 exotic bastard sword two handed, PA, FF
attack: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (18) + 11 = 29 for damage: 1d10 + 6 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 + 6 = 15
attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (17) + 6 = 23 for damage: 1d10 + 6 + 6 ⇒ (6) + 6 + 6 = 18
Rogarch
|
@GM Jhaeman - I am assuming that the combat is now over with Ting's attacks. Can my character drop her rage and not worry about the possible burning condition? Her fire resistance drops if she falls out of rage but resist energy does protect your equipment as well so she might be alright (as setting her or her equipment on fire in the first place would be difficult).
| GM Jhaeman |
Ting cuts down the fire monster, and it vanishes suddenly in a puff of smoke!
@Rogarch: For this encounter, we won't worry about the burning condition for you (it would extinguish in 1d4 rounds anyway). I didn't realise your resistance drops with the rage ending, so if you fight another one of these things, I'll go ahead and articulate the burning details just in case.
We are off Initiative.
Rogarch
|
Rogarch falls out of her rage breathing heavily. She then hands her wand of cure light wounds to Goran to use.
Cure Light Wounds, wand: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 = 8
Cure Light Wounds, wand: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
Cure Light Wounds, wand: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7
After three taps of her wand she is back at full health. The warrior takes out a scroll of Mage Armor and casts it on Rawk-N-Role. Rogarch then spends a few moments to then put away all of her equipment.
She waits for Ting to pick up the trail again. The warrior intends to stop at future major intersections to check for magical traps after being caught twice with a fiery surprise!
@GM Jhaeman - The effects of Arcane Bloodrage are only effective when raging. Still, you cannot beat the action economy of free action SLA.:)
Ting Tang
|
As the fiery creature dies, ting rests his exotic bastard sword on his shoulder watching the half orc heal herself. When Rogarch give him a nod, ting continues moving toward the center of town, following the trail as best as he can. Looking over his shoulder he adds, "When we's get's ta one o' 'em bloody intersectors we's'll take's a look-sees fer traps, wroight."
Ok, taking 10 (18) on tracking and when he approaches an intersection like the last two he will take 10 (22/25) on perception looking for traps, or anything else worth noting.
Xanac Candledark
|
Firing into melee and soft cover make Candledark's shot a miss.
FWIW, I was aiming for the corner of its mass that the other 3 were not near, and I believe that can matter with Large+ creatures, so might some of this not have mattered?
in the event I missed anyway, odd means I'll at least be able to keep my errant bolt: 1d100 ⇒ 31
Rogarch
|
"Looking for traps is a good idea Ting. It is a magical trap so Detect Magic should be able to detect it I think. They have been found at major intersection so we do not need to slow down the pace that much I think."
@GM Jhaeman - Rogarch and Rawk-N-Role will roll for their perception rolls at intersections instead of taking 10. The DC for detecting magical traps is reasonably high. :)
| GM Jhaeman |
The group continues on more slowly, with Ting following the tracks of the cultists and Goran methodically scanning for magical auras.
@Candledark: I did review the rules about cover & firing into melee penalties and how they relate to large creatures because I thought it would have been neat if you took it down, but (unless I misinterpreted them) they both applied, and even if just one of them applied it would have made the attack miss. Sorry!
@Ting & Rogarch: Regarding trap detection, I have been taking your Take 10 Perception checks into account but they just haven't been high enough to hit the DCs. Rogarch, noted about rolling at next intersection.
@Goran: Ok, I'll note that you're concentrating on detect magic in the cone ahead of you as a standard action each round.
Day One random check # 2: 1d100 ⇒ 79
| GM Jhaeman |
The broad street continues along to the west, following the curve of the massive wall that must curtain the city's outer ring from its inner core. The Pathfinders are alert for danger as they eventually reach another intersection.
Map has been updated. For buff tracking we'll assume another hour or so has passed to get to this point.
Perception (Rogarch): 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (14) + 14 = 28
Perception (Rawk-N-Role): 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (5) + 8 = 13
Goran Baldaros
|
There is a magic aura on the intersection...I can't tell what it is. So mind your step. Ting...be careful.
no k. arcana..spellcraft though..will roll that in case it can be applied...
spellcraft: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7
Rogarch
|
Rogarch nods at Goran's comments. While she is not a full on arcane caster she is trained in the theory and practice of spell casting.
"Well, if you can tell us where the magic is emanating from then maybe Ting can disarm it. He did say he was good with traps."
"Worse case we will bring down another fire monster."
The Perception scores of some of the party members are high so with a bit of time we should be able to spot the magical summoning trap. :)
Ting Tang
|
Hearing Rogarch ask for a specific location from where the magic is emanating, ting nods his beak vigorously in agreement, shifting his magical goggles he chimes in. "You's can bloody-well's count on 'at, wroight!"
Rogarch
|
Rogarch ponders the issue.
"Well, we could try to jump over the corners of the square to try to bypass the trap. There is no guarantee but it might work."
Ting Tang
|
Frustrated by the size of the 'trap' ting nods in agreement with Rogarch, "Or's maybe's work our way's t'rough 'em buildings." as he talks, ting walks over and starts to look at the corners of the dilapidated buildings that touch the edges of the intersection.
GM Jhaeman, what sort of acrobatics to jump from corner to corner or can they wind their way through the rubble?
Rogarch
|
Rogarch looks at the corners and sees them as easy jumps (she routinely can do a twenty foot long jump) but maybe the others cannot jump as well.
"I can ask Rawk-N-Role to clear a path through the rubble if we have to but I think we can make the jumps. My rocky friend will just glide through the rubble."
Xanac Candledark
|
"I don't suppose anyone has any idea what sort of trigger-mechanisms are at work?"
Perception, for whatever it might be worth: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (8) + 7 = 15
detect magic and Spellcraft: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (18) + 14 = 32
| GM Jhaeman |
The Pathfinders ponder how to best bypass the trap.
I would require an Acrobatics check to try to jump from one safe area to another, though the DC wouldn't be excessively high. You could also try to push through the ruined buildings and pick up the trail on the far side of the intersection.
@Candledark: You don't see a trap, though you can confirm Goran's statement that the entire 50' square of the intersection radiates magic. Instead of Spellcraft, I need Knowledge (arcana) to know more.
Rogarch
|
Rogarch knows more about practical spell casting than the theory behind the magic. Still she does her best to help Candledark with a few suggestions.
Aid,Knowledge-Arcana, DC 10: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (15) + 4 = 19
We might have to jump over it but we should at least try to see if we know something. Rogarch is not your typical brain dead barbarian. :)
Ting Tang
|
We might have to jump over it but we should at least try to see if we know something. Rogarch is not your typical brain dead barbarian. :)
LOL, good, ting will make up for the brain dead portion of it :)
While the more magically inclined pathfinders are examining the intersection, ting hops over to the corner bending over, lowering his beak almost to the ground, examining the dilapidated building. Shifting his eyes back and forth looking to see how far he'd have to hop to be able to get to the other street.
I realized the question was already answered, but I wanted to post something.
Xanac Candledark
|
Knowledge (Arcana), aid: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (1) + 12 = 13 *facepalm*
Ting Tang
|
no k. arcana..
might be a dumb question, but who are you two aiding?
Looking up from the rubble, ting squawks, "Has you's blokes sorted anyt'ing yet?"
Rogarch
|
Ha! That was my first impression as well with Candledark's Knowledge check but he did make an actual knowledge check and added my character's successful aid and then ... he rolled a 1. :)
She nods to Ting.
"Yes, we figured out that we don't know how it works."
Rogarch energetically leaps over the corner of the square of the magical trap. Clearly she enjoys these types of athletic displays (her deity is Kurgess after all).
20 Acrobatics at a take 10.
"Come on. This is fun!"
| RawkNRole |
Rawk-N-Role shrugs as Rogarch leaps. He attempts to glide through the ruins of the stone buildings to bypass the magical trap.
Rawk-N-Role has a burrow speed as well and as an earth sub-type he should be able to burrow through stone. This can helpful if others need help passing through the ruins.
Ting Tang
|
Nodding his approval as Rogarch hops the corner, ting follows suite, Hopping over the corner as well. Once he's on the right side of the intersection I believe this puts him on the road running east-west on the eastern side of the intersection he begins to quickly look for the tracks they'd been following. "So's which way's do you's blokes t'ink 'ey's went?"
Taking 10(19) on acrobatics for the jump and taking 10(18) on survival looking for the tracks they'd been following. If he doesn't find the tracks, he'll repeat the process for the next two exits from the intersection. Happy to RP it out, or just move forwards, your call.

Initiative (Round 1)
Goran
Ting
Fire Monster
Rogarch
Candledark
Bold should go!
This encounter is on Slide # 3.
Initiative (Rogarch): 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (3) + 7 = 10
Initiative (Goran): 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (18) + 1 = 19
Initiative (Ting): 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11
Initiative (Candledark): 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8
Initiative (Fire Monster): 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (1) + 9 = 10
Ting Tang
|
Turning as Goran stumbled into the trapped area ting sees the fire-creature manifest. "Oy! we's got's another one, wroight!" Charging from his location ting lifts his exotic bastard sword high and chops at the creature.
Charge: AC 20 attack + 1 exotic bastard sword two handed, PA, FF
attack: 1d20 + 11 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 11 + 2 = 24 for damage: 1d10 + 6 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 + 6 = 15
| GM Jhaeman |
As Goran gets into reach, the burning creatures lashes out at him with a fiery tail!
The monster does a full attack vs Goran. One misses, but one hits. Goran, you take 9 points of damage and need to attempt a DC 16 Reflex save to avoid catching fire.
Slam # 1 vs Goran: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (1) + 12 = 13
damage: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7
Slam # 2 vs Goran: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (16) + 12 = 28
damage: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 2 = 9
Rogarch
|
Almost instantly a wand appears in Rogarch's left hand out of her spring-loaded wrist sheath. She then advances towards the fire creature mindful of its reach while she simultaneously draws her long sword in her free hand. Once she is ten feet away from the monster she speaks a word of power elongating her weapon and attempting to trip it.
Trip vs CMD,Blade Lash, mw-weapon: 1d20 + 9 + 10 + 1 ⇒ (18) + 9 + 10 + 1 = 38
| RawkNRole |
| 1 person marked this as a favorite. |
Rawk-N-Role is fed up with these stupid flaming creatures that he cannot safely pummel. He advances on his stubby legs and lets the creature know his displeasure with a strange vocalisation.
Intimidate vs Fire Monster,Size Penalty: 1d20 + 1 - 4 ⇒ (13) + 1 - 4 = 10
I know this probably will not work but it seems like a fun thing for Rawk-N-Role to try. :)
| GM Jhaeman |
Rogarch's magically-lengthened blade knocks the fire monster's feet out from under it! It hits the ground so hard it doesn't even notice Rawk's verbal displeasure . . .
Rogarch's trip maneuver was successful, and the creature is now prone. (Rogarch, thanks for the movement arrows--handy!)
Rawk's Intimidate (demoralize) attempt failed. (a fun visual though)
@Goran: Thanks--you still take the 9 damage from the slam (it's not fire typed), so this thing is still dangerous to you. Is your fire resistance of a long duration, unlike Rogarch's? If so, we won't worry about burning saves. I don't see anything about fire resistance in your tagline or profile, so it would be good to add something--because I run and play in a lot of PBP games, relying on my memory is a losing bet every time :)
Candledark is up.
| RawkNRole |
Listen to the GM. Taglines are great. Sometimes even I need to look up and see what I am immune to. ;)
Ting Tang
|
"'At' had ta bloody well hurt, wroight!" Visibly flinching as Goran gets hit by the fire creature, Ting, as is his habit, takes a step towards the opposite side of the creature. As he moves, he lifts the exotic bastard sword and chops repeatedly at the flaming creature.
5 ft step, Full attack + 1 exotic bastard sword two handed, PA, FF
attack: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (17) + 11 = 28 for damage: 1d10 + 6 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 + 6 = 15
attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (17) + 6 = 23 for damage: 1d10 + 6 + 6 ⇒ (5) + 6 + 6 = 17

Goran steps over a pace and lashes out with his scimitar.
You might be born of fire, but I am blessed by the Dawnflower. Her touch protects me...
attack, adamantine: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (20) + 6 = 261d6 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3crit?: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (17) + 6 = 231d6 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
elemental, right? i didnt look further up...just my luck to waste a 20...lo
| GM Jhaeman |
Fighting fire monsters is becoming a hobby for the expedition, as Ting and Goran demonstrate extraordinary skill in predicting its movements and cutting deep with their blades!
The monster climbs awkwardly to its feet and tries to pummel Goran to the ground!
Both of Ting's attacks hit, and even with DR, the monster is below half hp now.
Goran's attack hit, but it is indeed immune to crits and the amount of damage doesn't surmount DR.
The fire monster does a move action to stand up (this provokes an AoO from Ting and Goran). It then does one attack on Goran. Result: Attack hits. Goran, you take 7 damage (and we won't worry about the catch on fire risk)
Slam vs Goran: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (10) + 12 = 22
damage: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7
