Hello, I’m GM Hmm! What can you expect from a GM Hmm game? A fast pace, whimsy, and a whole bunch of roleplay and discovery.

Welcome to my recruitment for the Dark Archives Duology, a game for the Play-by-Post convention, OutPost VI.

What is the ‘Dark Archives’ Duology?

(In this case, it is for two of the Dark Archives Case Files.)

Eando Kline, the head of the Pathfinder Society Vigilant Seal faction, has gotten hold of a strange book: The Dark Archive Folio. Found within the book’s pages are the last mysteries of the Lone Archivist. It’s a book of unsolved mysteries filled with dangerous phenomena, and Eando Kline wishes his most trusted agents to follow up and resolve them.

The casefiles we are tackling in this adventure are:

  • The Lady’s Harvest for four Level 7 characters.
  • Tomorrow’s Feast for four Level 10 characters.

The plan is to tackle these mysteries back-to-back, giving the characters a chance to ‘level’ between adventures.

Do I have to apply with an actual PFS character? I have so many ideas!

Nope, but I have a strong preference for characters that have a history, and whom players have built over time. It’s good if you know your PC’s personality, history and quirks. I also want characters who have the ideals of the Pathfinder Society: Explore, Cooperate, Report!

So you can apply with a different character, but know that I will be scrutinizing non-PFS characters harder, and I will expect them to be considered members of the Pathfinder Society for the purpose of this game.

Will this be for PFS credit?

Absolutely. These two adventure each offer half a scenario’s worth of PFS credit.

    So are these SHORT adventures?

Nope. Each are as long as a PFS scenario in play-time, which is why we’ll be moving at a fast pace for this one.

What do you mean by ‘fast-paced’?

    Here’s my pacing expectations:

  • Approximately two posts a day, including weekends
  • Open communication about vacations, conventions and busy work days if you know them in advance. Real life happens to everyone, but if you can predict your schedule, that’s great. (For example, I have very busy Wednesdays, and may only get a single post in on those days.)
  • Posts that interact with your fellow players.
  • A willingness to be botted by others
  • A ‘bot me’ spoiler on your profile that includes dice expressions for your most common attacks and spells.

What Level does my PFS character have to be?

Because we are running this in Adventure Mode, the exact level of your actual PFS PF2 characters does not matter, so long as you can temporarily adjust them to the correct level for each chapter. These adventures can apply to characters of any level.

Can this be a variation on my PFS character? I’d like to try out a different feat, weapon, archetype, heritage.

Since we’re already going to be messing with the character’s level, I’ll likely allow small variations. Just talk to me about them!

How will you be choosing players?

I’ll be looking for a team that might go well together, as well as players that enjoy roleplay and cooperative style play. I will try to make my decisions quickly.

When will you be choosing players?

GMs for Outpost can apply on February 7th. Everyone can apply on February 10th. I will likely be making my decision by February 12th, though I reserve the right to make it earlier if I get four excellent applications.

Can I ask you questions here before applying?

Sure, ask away. Do know that I am planning on posting the actual application form later.

I am in, totally will skip the 'dot' too!

I actually haven't even thought of leveling Frey, but I would also be willing to make a new PFS character as well. Can we do that? I would love to make a psychic, and then level them to 7 & 10 for this.

2 people marked this as a favorite.

    Hey Frey -

Since all your PFS characters appear to be level one still, feel free to apply with your brand new Level 1 Psychic. Since the character is new, please give me more details when you apply then you might otherwise to give me a feel for the character's personality.

Applications don't officially start until February 7th for Outpost GMs, and February 10th for everyone else.

    Thanks for your question!

From the sanctioning, these case files are played in Adventure mode. So the PCs we take through the adventure are technically not going to be our actual official PFS PCs; they will be (aliased?) clones of them (perhaps up or down-graded to 7th/10th level as appropriate). Do I have that right?

If that's the case, wouldn't that mean that we could take our actual official PFS PCs through separate Outpost VI scenarios while we take the cloned (aliased) version through your Dark Archives Duology?

That is indeed correct, Palandri. You can up or down-grade your characters to the correct level, and play the real ones elsewhere.

The only issue is that if you play the real ones elsewhere, and the character is being played at two different levels, I don't want to be confused when I look at your character sheet and headers, and I don't want you become confused in the other game you are playing. So let's talk about this, and be open if this is what you plan to do. You may have to use another avatar for the DA version of your character just to keep the two staight.

    Hmm

    Grand Archive

I have put the sheet on the description. I will place order into it.

Just to add something about Agathe, it is intentionnal that she is minded into mysteries. She is not good with change and social interaction. (Even if she loves theater.)

Yes. I always use aliases when playing in Adventure mode. I would clone my PC into an alias to go through your DA adventures so as to keep the two totally separate. But I see your point about getting confused between the two if I'm playing them both at the same time.

Do you prefer that we propose just one of our PCs for your adventures or would be it be okay to come up with a list for you to chose from. I can pretty quickly up-level any of my PCs to 7th or 10th and I'm not that picky about who I play.

    @Palandri,

I would suggest you put forward your two with the most character in them. Quirks, preferences, dislikes, strong backstory (especially if you think it might link into this).

Hmm likes strong roleplay and story hooks.

    ——

If there are still spots available a couple of days after open enrollment is active, I may apply with my kobold mighty bronze dragon summoner Tarcog and their dragon Amvolwatt.

Also, I heard from Professor Plum that you and them were submitting a pair of characters for this, and I would like to see that pair apply together. Do they themselves have a shared story line?

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Looking at Bret suggestion... I will change the character to my most flavourful.

(Cough, cough) A rocky gray with a tint of purple-skinned gnome with almost white hair gnome enters the stage with a weasel on her left shoulder and an alchemical crossbow in her back. She looks confident like she knows she will be chased but whoever is hiding behind the shadows.

"I think it is time that I present myself.I am Inonotuusobliquus

from Dwimovel in the Darklands. My quest is to be the world’s Greatest Cook! I joined the Pathfinder society as an excuse to travel the world and learn the best cooking techniques. I was so great with my cooking technique that I didn't need to do the three years of training! They told me that my dish was like an elixir that an alchemist would make. So, with me, you have the best of both worlds. It doesn't taste awful and it works!

Lately, I heard the new trend in cuisine is magician cooks. I am so angry! Using magic in food is to be drawn into an illusion. This isn't real food! But... I want to be the greatest chef, I need to be at least be able to do this I also have a rivalry with the Mask and the Moon, but not the owner himself... we have had a few dates together.

I am also writing a cooking book. Something very simple. Not simple for me. Each recipe has 5-7 ingredients with a few times of preparation. That is the best way I think I can show the world who I am. When I will be the greatest, I want that people will know about me before.

My favourite adventure was...when I visited the village Plaguestone. I learned so many things about how you cooked turnip. Pie, soup, pudding. How and the murder mystery was bad either."

Class: Alchemist (which dedication. This is a version of Ino for the adventure).

Why she is investigating the dark archives.... this is food-related, right?

That's a much better in person introduction. Can you fill out the rest of that application for the character please?

    Physical Description:

    Age: 32

Weight: 30 lbs (14 kg) (slight)

    Skin: Fair

Jayma is a small female gnome dressed in an impressive set of cutting-edge clothing of the latest fashion. The eyes are first drawn to her pixie-cut bright orange hair framing a beautiful, but strangely otherworldly face. They soon move to take in the multi-colored hooded coat covering a peplum bustier that barely conceals her ample charms. Her leather breeches and boots in coordinating colors complete the outfit. At her belt are two sheathed decorative daggers that show no signs of wear. Various pieces of jewelry can be seen attached to her clothing or on her fingers. In her hand is a staff that looks like a blackened and burned length of ashen wood.

See Jayma in all her splendor

Moving unceasingly from one shoulder to another, occasionally diving into her coat or backpack only to quickly emerge elsewhere, is a white ermine with oddly intelligent eyes.

    Background:

Jayma is a gnome noble princess from Brastlewark. A granddaughter of Drum Thornfiddle, King of the Gnomes. Young and beautiful, but with an awkward proclivity for magic, and a wanderlust that conflicted with her duties as a gnomish princess. Upon the ascendancy of Abrogail Thrune II to the throne of Cheliax in 4709, she slipped away from Brastlewark to avoid a potentially untimely death in the purge of non-Diabolists that followed. Has been adventuring around Golarion as a Pathfinder ever since. Generally avoids entering Cheliax, and absolutely avoids going anywhere near Brastlewark, in case she is recognized and returned to the court.

Backstory With Dr. Thurston Lazarus, III:

Jayma, a noble princess from Brastlewark, barely escaped from Cheliax ahead of the non-Diabolist purge that followed the ascendancy of Abrogail Thrune II. Her escape was facilitated by her longtime halfling maidservant and close friend, Astoria, who turned out to be a member of the Bellflower Network. She ended up in Osirion trying to make ends meet as a genealogist, which is where she first met Thurston in the library of the University of Osirion. He was studying to become a doctor at the time and she was trying to track down a particularly elusive ancestor for one of her clients. Their personalities were as different as day and night; she was a free spirit with a silver tongue who enjoyed going to parties and getting to know people; he was a pompous dyed-in-the-wool academic for whom little existed outside of his studies. They did not get along at first, but eventually Jayma managed to coax him out of his shell a little and an unlikely friendship developed. Once his formative studies were complete, he became a professor at the university. Meanwhile, Jayma was getting antsy. Osirion was a little too hot and dry for her liking and after several years of hiding out, she was ready for some more excitement in her life. She convinced her friend Lazarus to take a leave-of-absence and join her on an excursion to Absalom, the City at the Center of the World. Jayma immediately fell in love with the city and all its culture, particularly the theater. Lazarus was less taken by it; he'd come along mainly to gain access to the Pathfinder's Society extensive library of forensic manuals, examples of which were available nowhere else on Golarion. He quickly discovered that the library was only accessible to members of the Society and so enlisted. He also convinced Jayma to enlist with promises of excitement and adventure, which he knew she craved. Jayma, needing a source of income in her newly adopted city, readily agreed. And that is how Lazarus and Jayma found themselves as initiates of the Pathfinder Society. They've remained friends throughout their careers in the Society and have even been sent on several missions together over the years; Jayma's magical ability to inflict damage and sweet-talk just about anyone into doing what she wants, complement Lazarus's abilities to heal and alienate people with his pomposity and arrogance. Their playful banter when together overlie the deep sense of respect and platonic affection that they have for each other.

Jayma quickly steps off the small horse-drawn carriage and onto the street in front of the Grand Lodge. She tosses a couple of coins to the driver and with a scowl on her face, wastes no time in marching past the guards at the main doors and entering the lodge. They know the fiery orange-haired gnome in the fancy clothes by sight and quickly stand aside; they know better than to get in her way when she has that look on her face. Under her breath she can be heard mumbling, "They said I could have a short sabbatical to be the lead in the local production of Amalia Wraxton's latest play and now they summon me to the lodge. This better be good or I'll be giving Eando Kline a piece of my mind he won't soon forget. Hmph!"

In the lobby, a familiar voice greets her in Osiriani. "حائل"جيما إلى أين أنت ذاهب بهذه السرعة؟" A little startled, Jayma looks up to see the face of her old friend Thurston. Her features transform almost magically to one of happiness as she returns the greeting. "Thurston! I mean... Dr. Lazarus. What a surprise. I thought you were back in Osirion for a few months to do some research." She then shakes her head, once again remembering why she was there. "Apparently something terribly important has come up and faction-leader Kline has demanded demanded! that I appear for a briefing. This is so terribly inconvenient; I'm in the middle of rehearsals for a play, for Shyka's sake! This could not have come at a worse time." Lazarus raises his eyebrow. "What a coincidence. I too was ordered back to Absalom on the orders of Eando Kline. Some sort of hush-hush mysterious mission is in the works I hear." Jayma's shoulders slump. It was clear that she would not be getting back to her precious production anytime soon. Shyka only knew where the Society would be sending her next. Her woefully unprepared understudy was going to have to take her place. "Curses!"

Thurston seems unperturbed at having been dragged away from his studies and halfway across the Inner Sea to be here. "I do hope it will be as entertaining as that little adventure we had in Iobaria destroying those ritual sites in the Finadar Forest" (2-14 Lost in Flames). Jayma groans at the recollection. "Oh, I hope not. Traipsing through wilderness in a saddle for several weeks is not my idea of fun. I'm always up for investigating a good mystery though, especially if it's somewhere in Absalom."

    Character Details:

    1) Any special rules, boons, or corner cases you need to let me know about:

Not really. Jayma has a white ermine familiar called Twyl that helps her with her Performance and Diplomacy checks and she's nearly hit the maximum on invested items that help her with her skill rolls. She's also a Dandy with Gossip Lore. I've built her as a blasting sorcerer with almost savant level Charisma skills, but nothing too out of the ordinary.

    2) A few sentences about your character, both out of character and in character as your character would describe themself. Why are you in the Pathfinder Society? What are your character’s quirks, interests and pet peeves? Where are you from? (And if this is not originally a Pathfinder Society Character, tell me about what makes them a good fit for this story.)

Please see the spoilers above for many of the answers to these questions. Jayma is still a princess at heart. She has a strong personality and doesn't react well to not getting her way. She is particularly careful with her appearance and likes to dress and be seen in public wearing the latest fashions and hairstyles. She is drawn to the theater and the adulation she receives for her performances on stage. Deep down though, she's a bit of a genealogy and architecture nerd and will happily speak on these subjects for hours on end.

    3) If you have to level your character to level seven for the first chapter (‘The Lady’s Harvest’) are there any special changes you’re planning on making to it?

Nope. I've played Jayma through her current 7th level, so she's ready to go as-is. I've pencilled in her progression through 10th level in Pathbuilder, so she can be quickly brought up to speed for the second case file.

    4) What was your character’s previous favorite adventure, and why?

Probably 2-14 Lost in Flames, mainly because I was playing with my friend, Professor Plum, and the RP was particularly good between all the PCs.

    5) Why do you want to investigate in the Dark Archives Case Files?

As a player, I haven't gone through any of the DA case files, so there's some curiosity there on my part. Like most gnomes, Jayma is always on the lookout for exciting new experiences and loves nothing more than trying to untangle a good mystery, especially if there is a lot of talking and blowing up of things along the way.

    6) Will you be able to post 2-3 times a day on average, barring occasional days off (Cons, Work, Short Vacations, etc?)

Yes. No problem. I already tend to post 2-3 times a day on my other PbP scenarios. What I enjoy the most is RP, so I tend to take any opportunity I can to do so. I also don't plan on playing Jayma in any other scenarios while she's going through the case files, so there will be no confusion involved; I won't even have to clone her into an alias. One issue is that I'm currently in Europe at GMT+1, so I'm 6-9 hours ahead of North America. It hasn't proven to be a problem in the past, but it will explain why I'm inexplicably quiet during North American afternoons and evenings.

    7) Is there a botting spoiler already in your character’s profile? (Hint, hint!)

Uh. No? I have a lot of time on my hands, so I'm a pretty active player. I've botted for others, but I don't believe any of my PCs have ever been botted in the nearly four years I've been doing PbP. As such, the botting instructions in my profile tend to be pretty minimal. I'll look into this botting spoiler of which you speak, but the chances of Jayma actually being botted are vanishingly small.

Looking over the instructions again I see that perhaps the chances of Jayma being botted are not so small after all. I will supplement my sparse botting instructions to make botting her easier.

If there's anything I've left out, please let me know.

I've been in contact with Professor Plum and he will be posting soon with his own candidate PC, Dr. Thurston Lazarus, III.

Backstory with Jayma: See Jayma's post above!

Approaching the Grand Lodge, Dr. Lazarus encourages Chauncy Gladstone, the usual driver of his cart. "A little further my dear boy, we're nearly there. I can see it, just there up ahead. We'd have arrived hours ago, but for your little issue with the carriage. Did I mention I have important business?" The halfling driver sighs and thinks to himself, "Yes. Several times. In the last 10 minutes." He's grown quite used to the Doctor's pompous behavior. Lazarus pauses ever-so-briefly before continuing, "Please hurry. My fellow agents are no doubt waiting for me. I daresay they must be worried I may not make it at all." Chauncey rolls his eyes and mutters, "Worried you won't make it? Or ...hopeful?" Nonetheless, the dutiful halfling follows the path to the lodge.

Stepping out of the cart, a middle-aged elf makes his way into the lobby. Smartly dressed and clad in studded leather armor, he carries a brandy snifter in one hand with a bag of books slung over the other shoulder. While others are guzzling ale from mugs, he savors a refined sip of his brandy, mumbling something about "...civilized drinking..." With an air of superiority that is almost certainly undeserved, he announces as he enters, "Yes, yes. Greetings. I'm Dr. Lazarus." Glaring back at Chauncy, he mutters, "I've finally made it. You needn't have worried." Looking around, seeing no one is concerned at all, he adds unnecessarily, "You may simply call me 'Doctor'."

To his delight, the Doctor sees a familiar orange-haired gnome chatting away. He greets her in Osiriani and chastises her in common, "Now, Jayma my dear, you know very well you're the only one who calls me "Thurston". Let's not give others the impression I'll respond to that, shall we?" He manages a slight grin and sips his brandy. "How have you been since our adventures in Iobaria? And do tell me how your play is going." He continues to sip his brandy as the little gnome talks animatedly.

    Character Details:

    1) Any special rules, boons, or corner cases you need to let me know about:
Nothing really. Just that the good Doctor can provide plenty of healing as Master in Medicine, with feats like: Battle Medicine, Continual Healing, Robust Recovery, Ward Medic. So he can help keep people alive if necessary.

Hopefully the above covers most of this. In general, Dr. Lazarus is a pompous, stuffy, self-important, know-it-all. He took the Loremaster dedication solely to perpetuate his knowledge of everything.

    3) If you have to level your character to level seven for the first chapter (‘The Lady’s Harvest’) are there any special changes you’re planning on making to it? He recently reached level 8, but has not played there yet. So no changes and I'm hoping to basically play a bonus level 7 scenario with him!

    4) What was your character’s previous favorite adventure, and why? 2-04 Lost in Flames was fun. As Palandri said, Lazarus and Jayma played that one together. Watery Soup was an awesome GM and encouraged fun roleplay among the players. We all had a blast!

    5) Why do you want to investigate in the Dark Archives Case Files?
Dr. Lazarus fancies himself as an expert in the Occult (along with every other subject) and, as a doctor (and investigator) is keenly interested in learning more about the paranormal.

    6) Will you be able to post 2-3 times a day on average, barring occasional days off (Cons, Work, Short Vacations, etc?)
Absolutely. I'm available to post several times a day if the opportunity arises.

    7) Is there a botting spoiler already in your character’s profile? (Hint, hint!)
Yes. I don't expect to need botting, but in the unlikely event it's needed, Botting Instructions have already been included in this Paizo character sheet. Happy to use Bot Buddy if I figure out how it works.
NOTE: If Palandri is playing, I trust Palandri (or the GM of course) to take the reins.

    Envoy's Alliance

I absolutely insist on botting spoilers!

They do not have to be as complete as Pip's here, but they help everyone stay focused! You can click on Pip's profile to see a botting spoiler.

Generally speaking, the person who most uses their PC's botting spoiler is the player themselves. It's nice not to have to reformat the same dice expressions in combat all the time.

Thank you, Professor Plum and Palandri for your joint application to my game. I will consider your applications together as a pair.

    3) If you have to level your character to level seven for the first chapter (‘The Lady’s Harvest’) are there any special changes you’re planning on making to it? Not much. It just a level 7. Just to notice this Ino is a build slightly different for the purpose of the dark archives.

    4) What was your character’s previous favorite adventure, and why?

The fall of plaguestone like said above, but also. No time for treason because she created a Girl genius size, coffee machine.

    5) Why do you want to investigate in the Dark Archives Case Files? like above The food realated titles.

    6) Will you be able to post 2-3 times a day on average, barring occasional days off (Cons, Work, Short Vacations, etc?)yes Hmm.

    7) Is there a botting spoiler already in your character’s profile? (Hint, hint!) I am going to do this.

What are your character’s quirks, interests and pet peeves? Where are you from? (And if this is not originally a Pathfinder Society Character, tell me about what makes them a good fit for this story.)

Carolus wants to know everything there is to know, so he can organize it all. (Does the name Linnaeus ring a bell?) He joined the Pathfinder Society because they looked like people who could help him reach his goal - and then he met Urwal. He is delighted with Urwal!

Carolus was born in Andoran, but currently considers Absalom home.

A gnome with electric blue hair and eyes, pale skin with just a hint of blue, and possibly just a hint of electric crackle running through his hair, says Hello, my name is Carolus of Linn. I will be trying to answer any questions we run across in our time together, and hope to learn things I do not already know.

    3) If you have to level your character to level seven for the first chapter (‘The Lady’s Harvest’) are there any special changes you’re planning on making to it? No.

    4) What was your character’s previous favorite adventure, and why? I think it's a toss-up between Lions of Katapesh (the GM's reaction to Brain Drain was a delight!) and you running The Fanciful March of Urwal (I have such fond memories of you as a GM for it.)

    5) Why do you want to investigate in the Dark Archives Case Files?

For the mystery - they look like a chance for Carolus to learn all sorts of stuff he hasn't been exposed to before! I haven't read Dark Archives yet, I haven't heard much about them. They're also some of the few non-AP scenarios I haven't played.

    6) Will you be able to post 2-3 times a day on average, barring occasional days off (Cons, Work, Short Vacations, etc?)

Yes. I'll have to spend some time refreshing my Paizo Forums knowledge - it's been ... a couple of years since I did a PbM there.

    7) Is there a botting spoiler already in your character’s profile? (Hint, hint!) No. Then again, the character profile for Carolus could charitably be described as "slim" - I'll need to update it significantly before the start of this game.

Hey Rakshara, nice to see you again. I have fond memories of that game as well. I did not know you did PBP! Can you share a few more of your character's interests, hobbies or flaws?

    Verdant Wheel

The familiar figure of the wizard Ezren stalks the woods of Seeker's Plaza. He is red-faced with anger and clearly searching for something, or someone. He looks left and right, on and off the path and behind an empty plinth. Finally with a low growl he abandons his search and heads back towards the Events Hall.

The woods are still for several minutes when a voice whispers "I think it's safe. Stay here. I'll take a closer look."

A young half-elven woman wearing leather armor and a green cloak with an embroidered owl and lizard (or maybe a cat?) drops from her hiding place high up in one of the trees. She looks around carefully before taking a seat atop the empty plinth nearby.

"You can come out now. He's gone."

A snow-white owl bursts from the trees and glides to a landing next to the young woman. He turns his head upside-down and stares at her, hooting softly.

    Verdant Wheel

"Of course he's mad at you. You spit up a pellet and it landed right in his ale. It might not have been too bad but he didn't notice until he took a drink." She shudders. "It's a repeat of the library all over again. I just hope we don't get kicked out of the bar at the Events Hall too. If we hadn't gotten out of there as quickly as we did he was gonna turn us into lizards or something for sure. You know, for an old guy he sure can run fast. I thought we'd never get away."

    The owl hoots once more.

The young ranger gives him an incredulous look. "An accident? Really? You were 'accidentally' perched in the rafters just above him?" She makes finger quotes as she speaks. How is it that Ezren keeps falling victim to your 'accidents'? So far you've ruined his spellbook, stolen his sandwich Can't find where this one happened unfortunately. It totally happened though, knocked him into a fountain and now this. I'm beginning to see a pattern."

Meadow's background:Twenty years ago a wailing half-elf foundling was discovered in a meadow near Otari by a group of sprites. The sprites took a liking to the baby and raised her as best they could with the aid of several other denizens of the forest. Being a bit short on imagination, they named her Meadow. Years later as a nearby village began to encroach on the sprites' territory Meadow repaid their kindness by brokering a peace between the fairies and the humans. Deciding she rather liked big people, Meadow decided to visit Absalom and eventually joined the Pathfinder Society.

Edit: Meadow has worked with Jayma before. They were among a group of pathfinders that founded a Pathfinder lodge in Razmir.

    1) Any special rules, boons, or corner cases you need to let me know about:

    No.

Current character is a level 3 Kobold summoner in love with electrical attacks. He has an electrical breath weapon, his eidolon has an electrical breath weapon, he has a lot of electrical spells. I am skirting the boundaries of being too concentrated in electrical attacks.
He joined the Pathfinder Society because they had worked with his tribe and helped them after their home got wrecked. It has absolutely nothing to do with him being a dragon scaled kobold and the chief of the tribe also being a dragon scaled kobold.

Tarcog is a kobold with shiny bronze scales and fancy clothing. He has a prominent silver symbol of a dragon above a pool hanging from his neck. Those trained in such things would recognize it as Apsu’s religious symbol. His hands are wrapped in a silk covering. He is followed by a small bronze dragon.

Seeing the others he says “Welcome friends! Did you also receive a mysterious invitation to investigate a mystery? I’m hoping it will involve dragons, for surely there can be nothing more magnificent and mysterious than dragons!

I am Tarcog and this is my friend Amvolwatt, as you can see we are both mighty dragons!

He eagerly greets each of you, extending a handshake and a warm smile. He will even greet Silence, asking Meadow before offering the owl some rat jerky.

Some of you may get the feeling you shouldn’t investigate what he considers trail rations too closely.

    3) If you have to level your character to level seven for the first chapter (‘The Lady’s Harvest’) are there any special changes you’re planning on making to it?

My base character is only level 3, so I will need to level it a lot.

I will be looking hard at the Snarecrafter and possibly trapsmith archetypes as part of leveling up. He is a kobold, they have a proud history of excelling at trapmaking.

He will be almost useless if you ask him to deactivate a trap. He has no skill in thievery and I don’t anticipate him ever getting it.

I build them, not break them!

    4) What was your character’s previous favorite adventure, and why?

    Bounty #1, where we

    Spoiler:
    exposed a fake dragon!

    Return to the Grave where

    Spoiler:
he found out there are such things as friendly undead! Mind blowing!

    5) Why do you want to investigate in the Dark Archives Case Files?

It is very different than other adventures he has been on and I heard the second adventure takes place in a boat. He is interested in any adventure involving water.

    6) Will you be able to post 2-3 times a day on average, barring occasional days off (Cons, Work, Short Vacations, etc?)

    Yes.

    7) Is there a botting spoiler already in your character’s profile? (Hint, hint!)

The profile has not been updated since first level. I promise to work on that, but may need to create a different alias just so as to not confuse it with the actual version of the character in society play.

I will be using a different alias for Amvolwatt. Last time I used this alias.

Downtime: Learnin' Spells (via Magical Shorthand)

    ★ ---- ★ ---- ★ ---- ★

    Character Details

    1) Any special rules, boons, or corner cases you need to let me know about: Magical Shorthand (it is a little bit ambiguous as to the DCs as well as whether it is 1 or 2 checks). Also, as far as I'm aware, there has been no official ruling on whether spells can be cast from a stave if it is in a shifted form, so a ruling from you on that.

    OoC:
Leo is an excited young man of 20 years. He loves experiencing new things and learning. His zeal for the new and interesting often causes many think-before-act situations. When it comes to magic, he focuses on the practical application over the theory behind it. He is an honest altruist, which leads to him being frustrated by people with self-centered motives.
    IC:
"..Uummm..," Leo scratches his unkempt sandy brown head ponderously. "I..uhhh...I guess I'm a Pathfinder because both Mom and Dad were. My sister and I were pretty much raised in the Grand Lodge, so becoming a Pathfinder was pretty much a given. I mean, Mom said that she didn't want us to do it. But, what'd she expect ya'know?"

"I'm a follower of Nethys," Leo says, pointing to the two-toned mask symbol emblazoned on his chest plate. "'Seek out magical power and use it'," he recites. "'Don't pursue mundane paths over magical ones.'" His voice then gets softer, warmer, "Nethys is an odd deity to follow, I know. I mean, I know Nethys doesn't really care at all about his worshippers, but there's a freedom in that ya'know?" He nods as if to confirm his own words in his mind.

"Me? Uhhhmm...I mean...I'm me. I like learning new things. I like meeting new people and...uhhh...I guess I could take more time to think about things first. But where is the fun in that? I mean, if you spend too long thinking, you might miss the opportunity, right?...I don't like mean people. I don't like people who hurt other people. I don't like hurting other people..," Leo gets silent for a moment as he looks down ashamedly. When he speaks again it is just above a whisper, " Unfortunately I seem to be pretty good at it. But I use that and magic to help people, not hurt them. Well...good people at least..."

    3) If you have to level your character to level seven for the first chapter (‘The Lady’s Harvest’) are there any special changes you’re planning on making to it? I'd have to level it down, as such I'd change a 5th level ancestry feat to adaptive adept (heal)

    4) What was your character’s previous favorite adventure, and why?
    1-24 Lightning Strikes, Stars Fall
Aside from getting to cast Phantom Steed (level 4) for his whole party for the whole adventure, his versatility really came out. Because of the multi-day nature of the adventure, and a sizable spellbook that he has worked on at every opportunity, he very often had the time to reprepare a spell to solve the problems that the party came across. I would have done this in-character, but I didn't want to spoil the scenario for anyone

    5) Why do you want to investigate in the Dark Archives Case Files?

    Answer:
Leo shrugs, "The short answer is, Nethys says to. There is a high likelihood that the Dark Archive Case files lead to magical power. As such, I am bound by Nethys' one edict." He then shifts uncomfortably, his armor clinking, "That said, my father is a powerful master of magic. That was his focus as I grew up causing him to be mostly absent." He continues hopefully, "Maybe I can find something in the files that might catch his curiosity."

    6) Will you be able to post 2-3 times a day on average, barring occasional days off (Cons, Work, Short Vacations, etc?)
    Absolutely

    7) Is there a botting spoiler already in your character’s profile? (Hint, hint!)
There is not. This character is intentionally focused on being as versatile as possible. I'm curious, what would be the advised botting set-up for a versatile caster?

    Verdant Wheel

Oops I seem to have left out a bit of information.

    1) Any special rules, boons, or corner cases you need to let me know about: Nothing fancy here.

    2) A few sentences about your character, both out of character and in character as your character would describe themself. Why are you in the Pathfinder Society? What are your character’s quirks, interests and pet peeves? Where are you from? (And if this is not originally a Pathfinder Society Character, tell me about what makes them a good fit for this story.) Silence is very vain and opinionated and often thinks with his stomach, causing trouble for Meadow. Meadow has lived most of her life among various fey and frequently is confused by the ways of 'big' people and makes some odd mistakes. She loves being a pathfinder and enjoys travelling to new places and making new friends. She has a kind heart and does her best to help people in need. She has a tendency to enable Silence's bad behavior.

    3) If you have to level your character to level seven for the first chapter (‘The Lady’s Harvest’) are there any special changes you’re planning on making to it? see previous posts

    4) What was your character’s previous favorite adventure, and why? Probably Lodge of the Living God. We had an excellent GM that was able to go slightly off script in a way that didn't change the overall game but really added to the experience. Meadow still has the cloak that an NPC gave her in that scenario. We had an excellent party as well and lots of great RP.

    5) Why do you want to investigate in the Dark Archives Case Files?Meadow really needs a nice long mission quite far away from Absalom at the moment. Maybe Ezren will forget about recent events.

    6) Will you be able to post 2-3 times a day on average, barring occasional days off (Cons, Work, Short Vacations, etc?)Yes. Most likely once in the morning before work around 9am CST and once after work at 10pm CST. Possibly a very short post at lunch.

    7) Is there a botting spoiler already in your character’s profile? (Hint, hint!)There is one. I might change it slightly for level 7 and level 10 Meadow before the game starts.

Thank you for your application, Leo! To answer your question about botting, I would have your botting spoiler include general tactics and dice expressions for your most common spells and activities.

(And if this is not originally a Pathfinder Society Character, tell me about what makes them a good fit for this story.)
OoC Elondel is a martial melee character that is build to be able to smite (ie Exploit Vulnerability) his ennemies, more or less like the old Paladin of PF1. He is build on a base of a Thaumaturge with the Regalia Implement. As a charismatic character, he's also could be a face (for diplomacy mostly) and thanks to Esoteric Lore have access to some knowledge.

My character describe himself as a paladin, follower of Ragathiel. He was born on Hermea but despite his good intention, he had two much anger in his heart, so he was sent away. He decided to keep some object from his stay at Hermea (his Regalia Implement) and travel the world to gain the right the come back.
Over the centuries he specialized in the occult, going from place to place to fight Evil and protect simple people. That's how he learned about the Society and after some investigating decides that the Society was worthy of his blade.

Being speacialized in the bizarre over his centuries long life and being a paladin, he's ready to solve these mysteries and make sure no evil come through.

4-01 was a good fit for my character. Lots of RP possibilities and a good fit for my character abilities.

    Character Details

    1) Any special rules, boons, or corner cases you need to let me know about:

    2) A few sentences about your character, both out of character and in character as your character would describe themself. Why are you in the Pathfinder Society? What are your character’s quirks, interests and pet peeves? Where are you from? (And if this is not originally a Pathfinder Society Character, tell me about what makes them a good fit for this story.)

Yakuthiel joined the society as a way to channel his physique. There is a story about an elf in his ancestry (where the name Treeflyer came from), but no one seems to remember even a half-elf in his male line.

Yakuthiel doesn't like being treated as if all he were was a weapon. He has other interests. He performs in circus acts whenever he can, both as a strongman and an acrobat. And, he can make things.

He comes from the outskirts of Magnamar, and sailed away as a youth.

    3) If you have to level your character to level seven for the first chapter (‘The Lady’s Harvest’) are there any special changes you’re planning on making to it?

No special changes, but will attempt to get assurance on Athletics in order to trip adversaries then strike them while they are down and when they stand up.

    4) What was your character’s previous favorite adventure, and why?

I live to serve, and provide a meat shield to the mages. I really liked B21, Against the Unliving. It provided me with a lot of direct combat, and the ability to take hits rather than others in the party.

    5) Why do you want to investigate in the Dark Archives Case Files?

I want to prove myself as an investigator. I'm talented in combat, so most folk just see me as a big, dumb fighter. I'm more than that!

    6) Will you be able to post 2-3 times a day on average, barring occasional days off (Cons, Work, Short Vacations, etc?) Saturdays will be a problem. I most likely can post once each saturday evening.

    7) Is there a botting spoiler already in your character’s profile? (Hint, hint!)

Shield Block Trigger While you have your shield raised, you would take damage from a physical attack. You snap your shield in place to ward off a blow. Your shield prevents you from taking an amount of damage up to the shield’s Hardness. You and the shield each take any remaining damage, possibly breaking or destroying the shield.
Attack of Opportunity Trigger A creature within your reach uses a manipulate action or a move action, makes a ranged attack, or leaves a square during a move action it’s using. You lash out at a foe that leaves an opening. Make a melee Strike against the triggering creature. If your attack is a critical hit and the trigger was a manipulate action, you disrupt that action. This Strike doesn’t count toward your multiple attack penalty, and your multiple attack penalty doesn’t apply to this Strike.

Sudden Charge (Flourish, Open) With a quick sprint, you dash up to your foe and swing. Stride twice. If you end your movement within melee reach of at least one enemy, you can make a melee Strike against that enemy. You can use Sudden Charge while Burrowing, Climbing, Flying, or Swimming instead of Striding if you have the corresponding movement type.
Exacting Strike (Press) You make a controlled attack, fully accounting for your momentum. Make a Strike. The Strike gains the following failure effect. Failure This attack does not count toward your multiple attack penalty.
Lunge Requirements You are wielding a melee weapon. Extending your body to its limits, you attack an enemy that would normally be beyond your reach. Make a Strike with a melee weapon, increasing your reach by 5 feet for that Strike. If the weapon has the disarm, shove, or trip trait, you can use the corresponding action instead of a Strike.
Knockdown (Flourish) Prerequisites trained in Athletics You make an attack to knock a foe off balance, then follow up immediately with a sweep to topple them. Make a melee Strike. If it hits and deals damage, you can attempt an Athletics check to Trip the creature you hit. If you’re wielding a two-handed melee weapon, you can ignore Trip’s requirement that you have a hand free. Both attacks count toward your multiple attack penalty, but the penalty doesn’t increase until after you’ve made both of them.
Swipe (Flourish) You make a wide, arcing swing. Make a single melee Strike and compare the attack roll result to the ACs of up to two foes, each of whom must be within your melee reach and adjacent to the other. Roll damage only once and apply it to each creature you hit. A Swipe counts as two attacks for your multiple attack penalty. If you’re using a weapon with the sweep trait, its modifier applies to all your Swipe attacks.

    Character Details

    1) Any special rules, boons, or corner cases you need to let me know about: Aleksandr has negative healing but his eidolon does not, which can make for some odd positive/negative interactions.

I'll let Aleksandr tell the story, he's much better at it than I am.

"Good evening. My name is Aleksandr Osteoff, a renowned thespian that oft graced the stages in Caliphas and beyond. Perhaps you have heard of me? Perhaps not. It has been many years since I last took a bow to the adulations of the audience. I left it all behind... more to the point I gave it all away. I can tell you the story, but perhaps I'd best show you."

Aleksandr concentrates for a few seconds. A sigil flashes on the palm of his hand, a black rose, from a swirling vortex another hand, slender and graceful with the same rose presses palm against palm. Aleksandr grabs the hand and pulls it through the vortex. A feminine form with ghostly features steps through the curtain. Her hair and clothing shimmering with a vibrant energy. Yet though she is radiant her face is contorted with anguish. She lets out a hair-raising wail that likely causes many in the tavern to stop in their tracks.

"Imelia, my dear, it is time to put on a show for our guests."

"This is Imelia Eisenhardt, one of my collegues... and the love of my life. Her radiance now was unmatched by the way she glowed before whenever she took to the stage. Her movements were pure grace, he voice could bring a tear to the eye of one with the coldest heart."

The two begin to dance, moving as one in the rhythm of some tune unheard, but intimately familiar to them.

"We acted, danced, sang upon many a stage together. We were the talk of whatever town we visited and the fancy of many. But we only had eyes for one another, something one of her would-be paramores did not take kindly to. He was a strigoi, one of The Whispering Way and A man of much influence who who used to always getting what he wanted."

With a twirl, Aleksandr releases Imelia from his grip she spins and moves "off-stage" as if pulled by some invisible force.

"That fateful evening I arrived at her villa for our tryst but something was amiss. Signs of a struggle but none of dearest Imelia. It was obvious what had happened. We both knew who was capable of such a deed most foul. I immediately ran home and gathering a large some of money hired the best vampire hunters I could on short notice. Two days later they rescued her, but the one who had taken her had already begun the dark rituals needed to make Imelia one of his kind. She way dying, her life slowly bleeding from her."

The alarming thud at the end of the stage accompanied the fallen form of Imelia. Aleksandr rushed to pick her up, and on the divan he laid her.

"I called upon all the practitioners of the occult that I knew. I threw every waking moment and every coin I had into trying to save her. They performed rituals of their own with me by her side. It was no divine miracle but the Pharasmans would have sooner stabbed her through the heart with a stake of wood and taken her head than helped her. Imperfect as it was, she survived and the bond it forged between us was greater than we could have ever imagined."

Aleksandr grabs Imelia by the and again and pulls her to her feet where they resume their dance once more, holding each other more closely this time.

"You see I sacrificed not only my fame and my fortune, but part of my soul as well. I gave Imelia the spark of life and took on the fragment of her corruption. I have pulled her back from the precipice of unlife by leaning over the brink myself."

The dance ends and the stand gazing out as if the future were wide open before them, but very much uncertain.

"Now I give my life to a new cause. I travel the world looking for clues that will help us finally restore ourselves and our humanity and to hone our abilities to that one day, the gods willing, we will have vengeance upon The Whispering Way."

The pair take a bow before Imelia steps back through the etheral portal.

    3) If you have to level your character to level seven for the first chapter (‘The Lady’s Harvest’) are there any special changes you’re planning on making to it?
    I don't think so.

    4) What was your character’s previous favorite adventure, and why?
Probably the Season 3 Intro. Most of the credit on this PC is bounties and GM credit, so it was one of the few longer adventures he's played and one where I felt he had a significant impact on the story.

    5) Why do you want to investigate in the Dark Archives Case Files?
Investigating the occult plays into my characters story so well.

    6) Will you be able to post 2-3 times a day on average, barring occasional days off (Cons, Work, Short Vacations, etc?)
Most days assuming work isn't crazy. Sundays will be a challenge though, probably only 1 post on Sundays and a max of 2 on Tuesday and Thursday.

    7) Is there a botting spoiler already in your character’s profile? (Hint, hint!)
Not quite yet. I want to create an alias rather than use the main profile.

I was going to apply with my Catfolk Prowler at World's End, also a barbarian. However, during a session 0 for Gatewalkers, I developed a horror-themed character that I am going to make for PFS but have not yet made.

    Character Details

    1) Any special rules, boons, or corner cases you need to let me know about: No

    2) A few sentences about your character, both out of character and in character as your character would describe themself. Why are you in the Pathfinder Society? What are your character’s quirks, interests and pet peeves? Where are you from? (And if this is not originally a Pathfinder Society Character, tell me about what makes them a good fit for this story.)

"I'm Turiik," the young, skinny Erutaki man says. He left his traditional Erutaki clothing and tools behind shortly after joining the Pathfinder Society, and one could be forgiven for mistaking him for Tian-Dtang. "I don't talk much, but that doesn't mean I'm not invested. I'll use my knowledge of plants to keep you healthy. But please don't ask me to hurt anyone."

Turiik left his homeland for reasons that he doesn't talk about and generally avoids any assignments involving the Crown of the World. He is quiet, unassuming, and can barely stand the sight of blood. He is resistant to performing violence and it is suspected that Farabellus passed him out of pity. To underscore the point, he carries no weapons. However, he did very well in outdoorsmanship and identification of wild plants.

He joined the Pathfinder Society for companionship. While he left his people, he does not possess a loner's soul. The Pathfinder Society offered an inclusive home where people would be accepting of his idiosyncrasies. And deal with his supernatural situation. He enjoys reading Pathfinder Chronicles and traveling. He works with Eando Kline's faction studying curses.

That said, he's fully functional in his party role.

Fairly easy to guess mystery quirk but a spoiler none-the-less:

His rage is a dissociative experience triggered by danger.

    3) If you have to level your character to level seven for the first chapter (‘The Lady’s Harvest’) are there any special changes you’re planning on making to it? No changes per se, but I will need to choose WBL-appropriate equipment. He's not a gear-heavy build.

    4) What was your character’s previous favorite adventure, and why? This character's? N/A. He was a second place concept for Gatewalkers. Thematically, he overlapped too much with another player's character.

    5) Why do you want to investigate in the Dark Archives Case Files? Turiik investigates the supernatural hoping to find answers to his own supernatural situation. These particularly case files, based on summary blurbs I found online, seem like good set ups: the hooks don't involve battle and the danger probably sneaks up on us.

    6) Will you be able to post 2-3 times a day on average, barring occasional days off (Cons, Work, Short Vacations, etc?) Yes. Barring unexpected emergencies, my busy days are scheduled in advance so I can write out a calendar.

    7) Is there a botting spoiler already in your character’s profile? (Hint, hint!) Not yet.
