Shathee
It looks like we still have an imp on the map, but I'm assuming that's gone based upon description and that we don't have any other enemies besides Lord Baz, in the initiative tracker. So if I'm wrong, I'd definitely prefer to swing at the enemy.
Not being a fan of the bats and prefering his odds with the nasty, little imp, Shathee takes off down the stairs and runs full speed past the bats as he darts around the corner out of their site.
"Dang flying rats shouldn't have followed us this far..." Shathee murmurs under his breath as he runs.
Ironperenti
Shathee runs past the bats and into the hall where he runs into an invisible Lord Baz who attempts to bite him. The bite lands on Shathee's leather jerkin and so saves him from an obviously acidic bite. (you an stop where you are or keep moving down the hall as originally planned.)

Doc throws an alchemist fire into the Bat swarm. He doesn't hit any particular bat but the liquid still splashes up off the floor and burns some of them (dmg 2). Aurie moves down the eastern hall calling after Shathee to meet at the entrance should they get separated. Lord Baz directs the bats toward the group of pathfinders and then tries to bite Shathee. Molasbar and Doc are swarmed (Doc 6 dmg have bleed 1, Molasbar 3 dmg, both FOR save DC 11 or be distracted). Lord Baz is no where near as effective as his bats and misses the agile rogue.

Unless Aurie has a way to come over and finish off Lord Baz, it strongly looks like Shathee will be doing the honors. Unless he's got a way to withdraw from more than one square his only route of escape is going through the entire rest of the group and past Aurie. I'm liking our odds, though not liking the bats...
Ironperenti
Doc hustles out of the bats, covering his face to protect the softer parts of himself. Aurie, having no weapon useful against a horde of bats, moves into the nearest room and prepares to shut the door when everyone makes it in or when the bats close the distance.
Lord Baz makes a dash for it past Shathee and is able to slip past the rogue. He is extremely fast and keeps moving around the corner down at the end of the hall. The bats move toward the nearest target, Cimrodel, and attack as best they can (3 dmg, FOR DC 11 or distracted).

He looks over his shoulder and sees Shathee in pursuit with Cimrodel close behind and yells, "Fine, you can have it. I'll go somewhere else." And then he teleports away. Aurie gets a better feel for the instrument and begins to play something with more meaning and gusto. Aurie and Doc develop a plan and Molasbar and Cimrodel catch up with Shathee. If Lord Baz remained in the area he does not reveal himself. About the time Aurie and Doc are ready to implement their plan, the bats disappear. A few minutes later everyone comes together in Lord Baz's room with the instrument.
Shathee
Shathee comes back and let's them know of Lord Baz's departing words. "I don't know whether or not he'll hold to it, but he seemed to be in full retreat."
Seeing the small bite marks on the others, he cringes, grateful he was able to avoid that particular foe. As those look to be the most recent damage he adds, "It looks like we're not much worse for the wear. Should we search for our reward before going for the last link in our chain of bounties?"
Not sure if Lord Baz dropped anything, but probably a good idea to search for any potential loot regardless.
Ironperenti
The only treasure Lord Baz had promised was the instrument, an ancient Thassilonian zither. It is a masterwork instrument that weighs about 6 pounds. Lord Baz did not drop anything, at least not that you have seen. There is the crying Lemure devil who offered to pay you to get rid of Lord Baz. There is also a couple of halls you have not explored yet.
Shathee
Thank you for that reminder. If we don't see anything else in this area, let's head up and glance in C7 on our way back to the crying lemure devil. From that point, we've got 2 paths: through C7 on east to C2 then down south, or take the southern path near the lemure to the room to the west of C8 (maybe C11?).
Ironperenti
You head back east through the portcullis you opened and then down the steps. Then hanging a left you enter a room you had just glanced at earlier. A pillar stands at either end of this wide room. The northern pillar is carved with the image of a beautiful woman wielding a ranseur. The southern pillar depicts seven robed men and women, their features eroded with the years. Each of them holds one segment of the seven-pointed star. Strange runes are carved into the floor. Everyone recognizes the woman as Alaznist, the Runelord of Wrath, since Molasbar had identified a picture of her earlier.

Ok, Aurie, think!
lingustics: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9
I think that runelord or whatever would actually be attractive if she didnt look like someone just explained to her that the Kellid delicacy of "Surströmming med Djavularse" she just aid is actually exactly what it says on the tin. Sorry, I got nothing on these runes.
Rotten fish with devil-arse
"Doc" Adams
Doc grumbles at the needlessly arcane nature of the artifacts. "Talkin' about the Runelords, maybe? Could argue either way; depends what they mean by power."
Aurie de Valois
I mean, hyptothetically speaking, runelord society seems to have been fairly hierarchical with some all powerfull noodlearmed wizard prone to having a goatee and villainously monologing on top
Aurie says
Oh, is that why that Alaznist we saw earlier is so angry? Female so no goatee, thus needs to show her big bad evil side by permanent facial contortions?
I need to learn Thassilonian, clearly, the hypothesis I just offered proposed must also be, in Thassilonian, told to actual runelords in the incredibly unlikely event they ever wake up.
Note to self, paint a goatee to every Alaznist statue I find, she clearly would have wanted that.
"Doc" Adams
Doc searches the room as the group pauses, looking carefully for traps or secret doors. (Take 20 on a +7 Perception check.)
Shathee
Shathee has no knowledge of this ancient language, so he joins Doc in searching the room for any hidden doors, hidden comparments, or other items of interest.
Since we're taking 20, that would give Shathee a 27 as well to assist.
Shathee
"Careful," Shathee calls out after investigating the two pillars. "Some sort of trap on both of these pillars. This one with group of them on it makes the hair on the back of my neck stand up. That's always a bad sign."
Pointing over at the pillar with lone figure, he adds, "Something on that one too, but I'm not sure quite what."
Shathee
Shathee glances around the room slightly worried as he considers how fast he could get out of the room if Aurie moves to touch the pillar. "I don't know what it does or how big of an area it will hit. I think we may want to just avoid touching it."
Looking to some of the mage-types he asks, "Can anyone see any signs of magic to determine what affect or size of effect it may have?"
Aurie de Valois
Honestly, yolo!
Aurie declares as she walks to the Alaznist statue and...
almost poses with her, putting one arm around the statues neck, as if carousing with a good friend.

"I have examined the pillars closely," Cimrôdel begins, his voice steady as he gestures to the two towering structures. "The one on the left, the Alaznist pillar, bears a bless spell effect. It enhances the abilities of those who stand near it, lending them strength and favor, likely designed to bolster warriors or champions in battle. A useful effect, but not particularly dangerous unless you are on the receiving end of its influence.
"As for the group pillar, it radiates a bane spell effect. This spell is quite the opposite—it curses those within its range, weakening them and making them more vulnerable to attack. It is typically employed to turn the tide of battle in favor of the caster by diminishing the strength of their enemies. I would advise caution when approaching the area near that particular pillar.
"In short," Cimrôdel concludes, "the two pillars represent opposing forces. One lifts up, and the other pulls down. We must be aware of these effects as we move forward, especially if combat is imminent."

Ironperenti
Aurie feels a burst of anger or wrath that revs her up. Her heart beats a little faster and she feels like she could wrestle a lion (benefits of a bless spell with the mentioned emotional vigor).
