Round 6:

As the skeletal champions advance, the halfling feints with his heavy blade, then smashes the champion with his buckler. That, unfortunately, leaves an opening for the champion to hit him more solidly (the 14 HP already taken). Shenendril's arrow misses, as does Zeta's halberd and Vellestir's bite. Ryskovich is knocked off his rhythm by the attack, and his return strikes miss. Camina's strike runs into the wall, and Sakura can't quite land a blow past Ryskovich.

Ash lands a pair of not-very-effective strikes, but they're almost enough to take down the lead undead. It's looking like a stiff breeze will drop it.

The shadow drakes continue to harry Zeta, connecting with multiple glancing blows for 3 points of nonlethal damage.

The skeletal champion blocks Sakura's bardiche blow with its shield, turns to take Camina's strike on the heaviest part of its armor, and leaves a perfect opening for Ash. The half-orc's attack is on target, smashing the undead's head in. It collapses in a twitching heap as the last traces of the foul power that animated it fade away. Ash's followup misses the last champion, though.

Despite her distaste, Camina winds up and shatters ancient bone with a powerful and accurate fist. It's more than enough to send the final skeletal champion to its long-delayed rest.

The wounded shadow drake disengages and retreats at speed, leaving only one enemy facing the party. Although it's almost unwounded, it decides to follow the other one.

Out of combat, unless any of you can match a 270' double move for the next couple of rounds.

The room where the skeletal champions were is yet another ossuary. Notable officers of the Shining Crusade were once laid to rest on stacked alcoves in the walls of this chamber; those alcoves are now bare, although the party can see where the three champions were interred before necromantic power animated them. A search of the room turns up a belt, two potions, and a pair of boots, all of which detect as magical.

In the chambers with the names engraved on the walls, the party finds a nest that reeks of reptilian musk--from the shed scales, it's clear that the three shadow drakes stayed there. There's some miscellaneous treasure to be found there, as well.

To the southwest there's an apparent shrine to Pharasma. Swirling patterns line its walls. A small placard on the ground reads, “Those who perish fulfill life’s duty.”

Finally, before leaving the dungeon one of you gets the bright idea to check where the gibbering mouther came from; the only one of you who was in that area was Ryskovich, and at the time it was blanketed by magical darkness. It turns out to be a wide hallway with a staircase leading down; the stairs are flooded, though, with clear water. One of you spots a gem in the sediment on the stairs--a gem which also detects as magical.

With that, you gather up your gear and loot, and return to Venture-Captain Besnik. "So! Tell me about your adventure! (It was, I hope, interesting, and doesn't seem to have been fatal for any of you.)" After hearing your story, he congratulates you warmly. "I knew you would triumph! Just goes to show I picked the right Pathfinders to seek out adventure while unknown dangers lurked. There could have been almost anything there! Go and rest while I put our report together for the Ten. Surely, this addition to the Chronicles will put Uscalin Lodge on the map. And you closed the rift, too! I'm glad the ritual was of use."
