Let us take the other side! See map.
| DM Carbide |
There's no door, just a short flight of stairs down to a narrow room. Draconic and Celestial symbols are etched into the walls at seemingly random intervals. An unadorned stone table stands in the east end of the room. Shelves worked into the walls are filled with old books.
Sakura Kian Fane
|
Sakura looks around in the new room.
She starts reading the symbols and searches the room.

Zeta walks forward, looking around for enemies and traps. She also listens carefully, trying to figure out is there anyone else in these corridors... Diminutive dragon is flying over her shoulder.

Perception Vellestir: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (18) + 7 = 25
I want to look into all the corridors without going into any of them yet. Both have a darkvision 60ft.
Kridash Magath

"Maaan... This place is creepy as hell. Not sure if I like the silence or not." Ash comments as he is passing the hallway, looking for anything out of the ordinary.
Like there are many ordinary things in an unsealed, decades hidden mausoleum.
Perception: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (18) + 9 = 27
| DM Carbide |
Just to confirm this: Sakura has entered another room, and other party members are leaving her alone and walking out of sight of where she's gone. Is that accurate?
Sakura, in your investigation are you touching or moving anything?
Sakura Kian Fane
|
Sakura is of course touching things during her search to find items or a secret door in the new room.
perception : 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (18) + 5 = 23
| Vellestir the Wise |
Well, not really. I moved my tokken to the maximum distance where I need to go just to look into all the corridors. And it's only +/- 70 feet - if something starts happening to Sakura, we'll hear it. In addition, I proceed from the fact that if something attacks Sakura as soon as she crosses the threshold of the room, then the slowly walking Zeta (since she listens and looks at everything) will not have time to move even this 70 feet.
| DM Carbide |
OK.
Sakura finds what looks like a wand sticking out from under a book, and a small box next to it on the shelf. However, as soon as she pulls the wand out the books in the area of it fall apart...they look like the pages have partially decayed and partially been eaten by insects. Once the dust settles, only a single text remains, titled Barricado Arcanae. It's written in an archaic form of Common, but Sakura's linguistic abilities are more than up to the task of reading it. (DC 10 Linguistics). It's a text on abjuration magic, and there's a note in the preface that some of the techniques presented in the book have been used to preserve it. The box contains a small stoppered vial of powder.
Sakura, give me a Fort save.

fort +8 : 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (1) + 8 = 9 +2 vs poison.
using my reroll, 4 stars, fort +8 : 1d20 + 4 + 8 ⇒ (16) + 4 + 8 = 28 +2 vs poison.
| DM Carbide |
The samurai catches a faceful of dust from the decayed books and sneezes violently. She sniffles a bit as she packs up the items, but otherwise seems unaffected.

Map is updated.
Vellestir and Zeta thought they saw some indistinct movement to the north in the central corridor, but it quickly vanished from sight.

If Vellestir or Zeta mentions movement up the central corridor, Camina will stealth up to the alcove on the right and take cover.
stealth: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (20) + 13 = 33
Zeta Forli
|
Psst, we're definitely not alone here. Zeta peers into the central corridor, clutching the halberd a little tensely.
To complete the atmosphere, we still need motion sensors from the Aliens movie, hehe.
| DM Carbide |
This is a little out of sequence; Zeta and Vellestir saw the movement while Sakura was still investigating the room. Given that Sakura is still occupied, Camina, do you still want to leave the large room on your own?
Assuming that the party isn't splitting any more, this is what Sakura sees from her new position:
This long hall contains two chambers that she can see, each of which appears to be devoted to the dead of a single major noble house. Each contains a single large sarcophagus for the most prominent interred ancestor, while recesses in the walls are marked with the names of less known members of the family. All are empty save for tattered shreds of burial cloths.

Sakura turns back to the group.
"What is it? If it was only the lights then someone should detect magic around here as well!" she says and again looks through the rooms she is now observing.
perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (11) + 5 = 16
Shenendril al-Ranginori
|
"I agree, but it's not magic I know," Shenendril says as Sakura suggests that detecting magic would be useful.
She moves up to the intersection that Camina crept down but does not follow yet.
She points a finger at Camina and sends a Message via magic.
Hold on a moment. Sakura went to examine another crypt. We don't want to get too scattered. When she returns we'll all follow you.
Camina G
|
Camina would wander a bit astray from the party, trusting, perhaps foolishly, to her stealth to avoid engagement until she wants to.
Shenendril always gives good advice, though I've noticed not much in the way of chin rubs.
Camina sits tight and waits for the others.
| DM Carbide |
Sakura finds nothing of interest in the rooms, and can see a similar, larger crypt down the hall. She also notices that the dust on the floor has been disturbed recently; there are no discrete tracks, just smear marks as if something has been dragged across the floor.
From their position, Zeta and Vellestir think they hear echoes of whispering up the hall to the north. Nothing is visible, though.
Ryskovich
|
Ryskovich will move along the same passageway Camina is heading. He keeps his eyes and ears open as he proceeds to his current location.
perception: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (13) + 11 = 24
| DM Carbide |
Ryskovich doesn't see or hear anything, but smells something faintly musky.
Shenendril al-Ranginori
|
As the group begins to gather and head north, Shenendril joins them, bow at the ready.
I did not realize that was a familiarity acceptable or desired. There will be plenty of chin rubs and ear scratches in your future.
| DM Carbide |
Who's going where?
Kridash Magath
|
Ash keeps waiting in the main hall while others spread out.
"Uh. Guys ... Maybe we group up, one hand on the wall, and go room by room? Together?"
Camina G
|
I'd be a vote for going up this central hall when we're all together, though I don't mind if we wanna head somewhere else.
| DM Carbide |
Oh, come on! Split up--you can do more damage that way.
| DM Carbide |
Ryskovich and Camina realize that the debris on the floor of the hallway is actually bone fragments. Niches in the walls hold stone boxes containing the bones of the dead, although some of the boxes have been forced open and their contents scattered. No noble device or other inscription decorates the boxes; the many dead here have gone nameless to their graves.
Shenendril al-Ranginori
|
Shenendril goes to one of the forced open boxes and examines it, specifically to see if it was forced open from the outside...or the inside.
Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (14) + 7 = 21

The occultist thinks it was burst open from the inside. It was a Disable Device check, not Perception.
Camina G

Will save vs temptation to bat the bone fragments around: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6
Camina's attention seems diverted by an interestingly shaped bit of bone. She stoops down, seems to consider it, then nudges it. It rocks slightly. She bats it again, a little harder, then pounces on it when it skitters across the tile. Seeming to come to her senses, she stands and shakes her head.
"Sorry. Was just checking the, ah...acoustics...of the hallway. It's, ah, not good. They're gonna hear us coming if we're not careful."
"Want me to take a look at that?" she asks.
disable device: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (3) + 11 = 14
| DM Carbide |
Camina also thinks the box wasn't broken into from outside.
Ryskovich
|
As Camina bats the bone around…Ryskovich lets out a slight smirk as a bipedal cat is still a cat.
Well…then why do such a silly thing Camina he muses.
He clutches his falcata a little harder as he hears the fact the creature roaming the halls with them is potentially undead. He knows his weapon is magical, as well as the buckler strapped to his arm.
Keep ears and eyes open everyone…
Ryskovich will move forward as quietly as possible, and tries to discern if/what may be lurking in the shadows nearby.
stealth: 1d20 + 3 + 4 - 1 ⇒ (18) + 3 + 4 - 1 = 24
perception: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (20) + 11 = 31
| DM Carbide |
Ryskovich glides forward, taking care not to step on any of the more fragile bits of bone underfoot. He thinks he's being pretty quiet, but something hears....
There is a splashing sound from around the corner to the right, followed by a cacaphony of voices.

Sakura rounds the corner to see a horrifying sight: a puddle of mobile flesh on the floor, eyes and mouths forming and dissolving on its surface. The eyes are wide with what would in a more...integral being be madness, and the incessant babbling of the mouths does little to disabuse the aphorite of that particular impression.
Zeta, Shen, Camina, and Ash to go!
