@GM Otha - It looks like a giant (sub type) to me. If it is then defensive training should apply. So Flint's AC should be 48 and his CMD 57 against this strange creature.
@Agata - I will certainly take an Extended Heroism from you if you can spare it. Your caster level is much higher than mine and my slots are limited for all day adventuring. :)
Flint checks out the animated hands and the strange giant-like creature before attacking.

The dwarf decides to concentrate on the undead creatures and banes his bow against them. He steps forward and begins his assault. This time he uses his durable arrows hoping to retrieve them after the battle.Flint will begin to target orange and move on to the next one if it drops.
The order would be at best: orange, yellow, black, green, blue and pink.

Correct Marta, you’re more than 10 minutes from the lake…
While Marta buffs her defenses for this fight, Alie hastes the party…
Flint’s first arrow takes out the orange hand, while his next four take out yellow and black; his last arrow puts a hurtin’ on green…
Zaarah moves 5’ SE to get in range for her slumber hex which she casts at the huge creature…
Will: 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (13) + 17 = 30
…but he resists its effect…
The big dude grunts as he shakes off the hex, moving forward to strike at the caster who tried to put him to sleep…
Club: 1d20 + 25 ⇒ (8) + 25 = 33
Damage: 2d6 + 12 ⇒ (4, 1) + 12 = 17

Earlier: Agata also casts Extended Heroism on Flint. She's used all her Extend charges and she has two castings of Heroism remaining (might use one on Sweet Mawd later, or just save them in case the ones already cast expire).

GM, were there any results from the knowledge checks? I failed the check on the giant but got a 50 (!) and a 26 on the Crawling Hands.
Agata and Sweet Mawd step 5' to the side and unleash a barrage of attacks against their enemies.
Sweet Mawd fires the wand of enervation at the Giant
Ranged Touch attack: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (3) + 15 = 18
Caster Level check vs SR if needed (wand is minimum caster level): 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (13) + 7 = 20
negative levels: 1d4 ⇒ 1
Agata casts Quickened Ill Omen on the Giant
Caster level check vs SR if needed, elf, planar penalty: 1d20 + 19 - 2 ⇒ (5) + 19 - 2 = 22
No save. On the Giant's next 4 d20 rolls it has to roll twice and take the worse result
Then Agata unleashes a blast of cold against the creepy hands.
Cone of Cold - 60' cone - I believe that Agata can get all the hands on the left side of the map but if not she could have easily moved to a different location to get them all
If Spell Resistance: +19-2 (planar penalty)
DC 27 Reflex for half damage
Cold dmg: 15d6 ⇒ (6, 6, 6, 1, 1, 5, 3, 3, 6, 4, 6, 6, 5, 4, 2) = 64
GM, as noted in a previous post, 17 points of the Giant's initial attack on Agata would have been absorbed by her False Life, so she should be down 25, not 42.

![]() |

@Agata - The planar penalty would not apply to SR checks as caster level checks are based on your character level and not your character's characteristics. This penalty is bad enough as is. :)

![]() |

@Flint - thanks, good point.
Forgot to mention: are the hands flying or on the ground? If the latter, Agata and Sweet Mawd will fly 30' up in the air to try to ensure that they are out of melee - they each have a move action available to do this.

If anyone in the party becomes blinded or cursed, that effect is suppressed for 17 minutes. Basically it gives us immunity to blindness and curses while a fight is going on.

My bad, Agata, but they’re not gonna be around much longer. Here’s what you know ‘bout ‘em: Crawling Hand Info

Flint sees the last two fingerling creatures holding on and one is barely able to scratch Zaarah. He turns his attention to bigger game. While he has never seen this creature he reasons it must be some sort of giant so he banes his bow against Humanoid (Giant) as begins his volley.

Alie: sorry, excuse me for asking. I’m not well-versed on spells by seeker level casters and, from reading the spell description, this is a touch spell; can it be delivered in another way?

![]() |

@GM Otha - You are quite right. She would need the reach meta magic feat or rod to cast it at range or she could move up and try to touch him. Casting spells normally or moving more than a 5 foot step could provoke attacks of opportunity from the giant considering where people are on the map. So people watch out, or there might be a club to the head in store for you. :)

additional dmg if crit success: 1d8 + 26 + 10 + 1d8 + 26 + 10 ⇒ (5) + 26 + 10 + (4) + 26 + 10 = 81 plus target blinded permanently (head number two perhaps?); a successful Fort DC 27 save reduces this to dazzled for 1d4 ⇒ 1

Theodric and Flint tag team, combining blade and arrow, to make the Jogund troll and its nine heads (8 heads after Theodric decapitated one) a bloody unrecognizable mess; it goes down with a loud groan and an even louder thud as it hits the jungle floor…

Marta checks herself over with surprise, finding that she took no wounds. Of course she dealt none either. Still... It was her intent to provide a buffer while the others did the damage so she is feeling quite vindicated.
"Well done warriors."
Not happy with the fact that her favorite spell was not active, she corrects the situation and casts an extended heroism on herself.

Flint retrieves his durable arrows from the combat scene and examines the giant for any possible treasure. Assuming no more trouble he adjusts his equipment slightly.
"Is it possible that none of us actually know what this giant was called?"
With the assumption that nothing of note happens after examining the giant he leads the party further along the path.
@GM Otha - I am going to assume that the arrows that missed the giant could not have gone that far with a dense jungle as the back drop against the huge dude and Flint would have no difficulty finding them with his great Perception score and the Sift orison. The durable arrows that hit the Crawling Hands are probably trashed due to the damaging pus so I will mark them as used if that works for you. :)

![]() |

"I think you get to name it, Firetoe. But no one could argue with you if you called them Moon Giants, yes?"

![]() |

Flint smiles and nods back to Theodric.
"That name will have to do until we get back. I am certain that there must be a picture of this beast somewhere in the Dark Archives library."

![]() |

That sounds good, Flint; yeah, I skipped the pus as far as damage to the PCs when you killed the hands as the reflex save was so low, no one was in any real danger and it would’ve just slowed things down…

![]() |

@GM Otha - I am assuming that we found no treasure on the giant and I will push the game along.
Flint waits while the party members heal up and then leads them forward on the path.

Arghh! Could’ve sworn I posted this…my bad…
You 50 pounds of raw meat, 123 gp, and a large lump of valueless crystal in a rugged leather sack upon the giant’s corpse…

"Well, that was all worth it."
Flint remarks in a dry tone.
The gold will be taken as party treasure. I cannot find a valid in-game reason to bring along either the crystal or the raw meat. :)
He leads the party forward on the path.

![]() |

"Not. Somehow that meat seems suspect unless someone wants to enchant it. The crystal might have some meaning, a symbol or something. I'll just stash it in my magical backpack."

![]() |

”Makes sense. That crystal might have some meaning up here that will become clear later on,” Alie says, feeling better safe than sorry.

![]() |

Flint nods at Marta.
"Sure take the crystal if you like but I draw the line at the mystery meat found at the bottom of a giant's sack. I promise I can find us better food than that if it comes down to it."
"It is time to get moving again."
With those words Flint starts moving back along the path.

No time for a proper post tonight but as noted earlier, Agata's damage is only 25 hp (due to False Life absorbing 17 points of dmg).
Agata has Sweet Mawd attend to her wounds and those of the others before the group continues on.

Zaarah taps herself five times with her infernal healing wand…
After healing up, Flint leads you forward. Around an hour or so, the path suddenly ends at a large, round lake, its black water mirroring the cloudless, starfilled sky in the heavens.

Flint frowns as he sees the path end at the lake…having to lead the party around the lake, he notices they’ll have to walk thru brush, covered with what he recognizes as demon nettles with their poisonous sap…even being aware of them and being careful, they could still be hard to avoid…
Need a Reflex DC25 save for everyone to avoid the numerous nettles as you walk around the lake; it can be avoided by those who wish to fly…

Flint looks at the brush.
"This is an interesting challenge of a person's concentration and agility to pass through unscathed. Still I understand that some of us might want to fly over this obstacle and there is no shame in that decision."
"It is a good thing that we are all magically warded against the effects of poison should we decide to undertake this test."
I do not see how Flint can pass up this opportunity to test himself unless the needs of the party prevent him from trying. :)

![]() |

"Forget that poisonous thorny business! I can fly everyone over this lake if one of you cast the spell on me. Some of you weigh next to nothing!"
920 lbs. heavy load capacity; 2,400 lbs. if enlarged

![]() |

”I think I’d prefer to fly. How about the rest of you,” Alie asks, as she casts Overland Flight on herself.
”And I can cast Fly on you, Theodoric!”

![]() |

"Perfect! if some of you can't fly, I'll get big and you can hop on my back!"

![]() |

Flint eyes Theodric. He is willing to forgo the challenge of crossing if no one else volunteers to attempt it. It would be a trivial task for him at any rate and he does not wish to be prideful.
"I think that you will be able to handle any of us without needing to get large."
"That is why I held off on eating pie all these years."
The monk says with a wink.
@GM Otha - How long will it take for the party to fly across?

![]() |

Marta smiles almost imperceptibly at the though of so many of them riding the warrior.
"Sounds like it will work. More comfortable if he enlarges, though far easier to spot. Then again, they already know we are coming. How long will that last?"

![]() |

"If yesterday's transformation is any guide then it was only for a couple of minutes. It is really not necessary as it is quite obvious to anyone that has seen him in combat that he is as strong as an ox."

It’s not quite a mile across the lake; with a fly speed of 30’, it’d take roughly 8 minutes…

I think she means flying. :)
