You almost got a coven here... is your pet slingin' hexes as well? :D
| Sweet Mawd |
No but I should give her some more wands/scrolls/staves so that she has more options to soften them up for my hexes. When combined with my ability to cast quickened enervation or quickened ill omen it can make some pretty brutal combos.
Flint Firetoe
|
Yes, spamming hexes is always the easiest option and does not use up resources either. Witches are dead easy to play and have nice versatility with their spells. If only they had better defensive options. :)

@Agata - Thanks for extended Heroism. It is much appreciated. It will save my character two slots over an eight hour adventuring day and he can handle topping up the last one himself. The Fairy Ring spell will help the party out a lot as we will not have to stand watch or risk being jumped in the middle of the night. It also means that we only have to worry about our buffs during the eight hour window when we are adventuring. This is very helpful. :)
@Marta - If you really need a buff to be up while adventuring you might want to spend the slots to do so instead of trying to time it. While costly in terms of slots having the spell up when combat starts is really handy. At least that is my opinion on the matter. Feel free to think differently. :)

@GM: can you post party buffs in each of your posts as I tend to forget what's applicable i.e. Hunter's Blessing applies to what? and I believe Haste in ON but I'm not sure...
Flint Firetoe

| 1 person marked this as a favorite. |
Haste is up.
Hunter Blessing applies to Outsider(Evil) and Plants for this combat.
I hope that this helps you kill things better. :)

Thanks Flint! I edited my Gameplay post and updated my header accordingly. Much appreciated!
Flint Firetoe

@GM Otha - You might want to reconsider allowing effects like Persistent, Ill Omen and Misfortune to stack going forward. They are essentially like effects that (despite different wording) have the same game effect of forcing a (negative) re-roll on a d20. The rules of the game prohibits this use of stacking of identical (or near identical) effects unless specifically mentioned as an exception to the general rule.
These rules are spelled out on page 208-209 of the CRB (Combining Magical Effects).
It does not take too much imagination to see how destructive forcing four or (shudder) eight re-rolls versus one save can be to any combat. :)

Anyone with a folding boat, raft, submarine or can summon large aquatic creatures for 8 min?
Zaarah Katsu

None of the above.
I’m back but will need 24 hours to be through the posts.
And thanks for botting me so well GM! :-)

Nope.
GM Otha

Sorry for the late post; got my second shingles shot yesterday morning and think it had me feeling a bit under the weather most of the day…
Zaarah Katsu
|
Please don’t worry about timing!!
Flint Firetoe
|
It always the second shot that gets you. :)
If you are running out for brunch today that is a good sign.
I just had to adjust my header to correctly reflect my character's current Flat Footed AC. My Monk is now eating Humble Pie as he actually lost initiative with his enormous modifier. The shame of it all. :)
Flint Firetoe
|
@Marta - You have a good point about making the knowledge checks before your turn as play-by-post is slow. With the understanding that our characters cannot make use of this information until their turn comes up in initiative just to keep things fair.
In terms of the planar penalty I still think we should take care of it ourselves and not force the GM to babysit us. If it slips by then he can make a correction.
I deleted my OOC post from the game play thread to clean it up a bit. Posting there gets people's attention but does make a mess. :)
Theodric de LaMontagne
|
@GM: not sure what I can do based on the init tracker msg.
GM Otha
|
My bad, should’ve been more clear. While Marta can cast/prep, she can’t move on her own since you’re carrying her; you’re not as restricted as she is, as you can move, but doing much else might be problematic (such as attacking effectively, since you’re carrying her) unless you land. I’m pretty flexible so, if you’ve got an idea on what you might want to do, I’ll listen and keep an open mind…
Theodric de LaMontagne
|
ok cool- I'll move and attack the thing ASAP; and I can drop Marta at any point she's comfortable; fly spell says descending is at double speed so a move action going down is 120 ft. (180 ft. with haste?), which should be enough to put me near its pretty froggy mug. :)
Zaarah Katsu

These -4 to will saves is really hard!! :-/
Zaarah Katsu
|
Thanks for the ablative barrier reminder Flint! Totally forgot that but it this is the damage that will make it expire given the damage she received earlier as I just checked. :-)
Flint Firetoe
|
@Zaarah - Ablative Barrier is really good as it works against spell damage too. IMO one of the most overlooked and underrated spells in the game. The fact that a Magus can pick it up as a second level spell is just extra icing on your cake. My Bloodrager will pick it up at 7th level as well. This spell is just pure win. :)
Zaarah Katsu
|
Yeah, I really like the spell as well! ;-)
Those arrows of yours are really deadly!
Flint Firetoe
|
Thanks, generally he is more accurate as he does not have to deal with the planar penalty and his bonuses to hit are four greater than what you see now. Zen Archery gets nerfed hard here.
Zaarah Katsu
|
But these planar penalties also make it exciting a little!! ;-)
PDK does not seem to have a problem either!
Flint Firetoe
|
@Agata - You are correct about Freedom of Movement but the flip side of your argument is that you can simply stay in the grapple and wait for your opponent to auto-fail his maintain check on the following round thus spoiling his next turn's action. Tactically that is often a better option but in this case Red is so dead anyways that it is completely irrelevant so either choice is good. :)
In terms of a claw attack, the damage is B/S so it would punch through the Defending Bone DR. My seeker level Cleric has been very disappointed with this spell as it is almost useless against monster attacks. It is great however against most humanoid attacks who often use swords, axes and spears!
Agata
|
Ah I misremembered about claws - I always think they are P/S - it's sort of odd that they do bludgeoning damage.
You are correct about Freedom of Movement and grapples, but in this case since they have a "devouring grapple" ability, I didn't want to wait and find out what it does, especially if it turns out that it allows them to devour you without having to make another grapple check! :-)
Flint Firetoe
|
I guess it depends on how long the claw is and how big the paw is. On a big cat (or bear) it would make perfect sense as you are going to get punched and sliced at the same time.
Good point. It is always easy to be calm, cool and collected when it is someone else's character caught in a grapple. Devouring grapple does sound sort of nasty. :)
GM Otha

As this is a module and we won’t be close to finishing on the end day of Gameday XI, they’re reminding us to go ahead and roll for boons and report the session…at your leisure, roll a d20; on a 19 or 20, you win a boon so roll a d3 to see which boon…
Flint Firetoe
|
Boon: 1d20 ⇒ 6
Well at least it was not a 1. :)
Theodric de LaMontagne
|
Roll for boon: 1d20 ⇒ 19
If successful, rolling for which one: 1d3 ⇒ 3
Zaarah Katsu
|
boon : 1d20 ⇒ 10
Flint Firetoe
|
People please try to do some damage to this monster this turn so it dies.
It is literally almost there so a little push and it will go down. We are going to rest anyways after this combat so feel free to unload with your spells.
@Marta - I would appreciate some offence from your character during combat going forward. We can use the help. :)
GM Otha
|
Yeah, he’s barely hangin’ on and he can put out some damage, given the chance…
If not for the DR, you would’ve dropped it Flint…
Flint Firetoe
|
Well at least Clustered Shots is helping out so DR is only applied once per flurry. They just had to nerf my bow. :)
GM Otha
|
Yeah, I wasn’t happy when I found out that they started voiding DR for melee weapons at +3 and not for bows…makes no sense to me. So I ponied up for Holy on my bow for my -1 and it’s paid big dividends…Helgar will see him in action in Academy of Secrets…
Flint Firetoe
|
Did the archer guild not pay their dues or something? :)
Still I am not complaining. Archery is still good and Clustered Shots (and Holy) help to clean up the DR problem.
@Zaarah: Yeah, that should do it. It is not all about the big numbers and sometimes a little push at the end is enough to bring the baddie down. :)
Zaarah Katsu
|
Well, I did some damage! ;-)
Marta - A.K.A. Telmar So-Melnop
|
Besides the three casting of Hunter's Blessing, Marta does her usual bedtime castings of
Extended Delay Poison
Extended Greater Magic Weapon on UC
Extended Greater Magic Weapon on spear
Extended Mage Armor (by Agata if she has one prepared still)
Extended Heroism (once before retiring, and once during her watch to get her through to morning)
Which leaves her 2 (or 3 if Agata does not have mage armor prepped) to lend out.
Flint Firetoe
|
Marta - Just a heads up that any spells that you cast 8 hours before you prepare/refresh your spells for the day count against the current day spell totals. Also as we are resting inside an Extra-Dimensional space a watch is not really necessary. :)
Marta - A.K.A. Telmar So-Melnop
|
Should be OK since we have camp setup time and such. Since we travelled 8 hours, that leaves far more than 8 hours camping. The long term spells last 28 hours so as long as I get the spells cast at the right time I should be fine. Perhaps if I rephrased it as 'cast during camp setup'?
Flint Firetoe
|
Sure, just cast your spells slightly more than 8 hours before you pray for spells in the morning and you will be golden. :)
Agata
|
boon?: 1d20 ⇒ 9
Sorry for the posting delay everyone. Gonna be a little hectic with childcare for the next week or so, but should be much better after that.
| Sweet Mawd |
Btw, while we are resting in the fairy ring retreat, just a reminder that Mawd can cast Commune once per week (6 questions). I almost never use it because I can rarely think of any good questions to ask but if anyone has any suggestions let me know.
Marta - A.K.A. Telmar So-Melnop

Terrain or opponent information would be nice so I could tailor the hunter's blessing more appropriately. Like, 'will we be encountering monstrous humanoids tomorrow?'
Flint Firetoe
|
People we might want to save this ability for when we actually need it instead of asking random questions now. :)
Flint Firetoe
|
Everyone should check their header information to make sure it is accurate as it is a new day. :)
