The Enemy Within (Inactive)

Game Master EltonJ

We are playing through the Enemy Within campaign.

My cousin, Soulcleave, likes this game. So I bought the main book and I may buy more Warhammer FRPG books in the future.

This game, besides ICE's Rolemaster, is very lethal. Character creation is different too, and you may choose to be human, dwarf, halfling, high elf, or wood elf. I might not run it, but I wonder who would be interested.

Which edition would it be (the current one is 4th, I believe)?

I have always wanted to learn how to play this game after watching Narrative Declaration's WarHams Fantasy campaign (GMed by Paizo's very own Thurston Hillman!).

Oh, I'm very interested in this one! Started a campaign as a player several months ago and it sorta fell apart quickly (we were playing online, not pbp) but I liked the concept a lot. Very dark and gritty, with almost everything about character creation determined randomly. You can get 'extra' rolls to mitigate the randomness, but if you accept the random rolls you earn extra XP. Pretty cool concept, I thought.

Anyway, yes, count me in if it goes. I've got the pdf of the rulebook as well.

Okay, it may depend on how many people actually respond to the interest check.

It would be fourth edition. I played the first edition before.

Bump!

Consider me interested. I have always been interested in the universe, so this would be a way to get invested without dropping hundreds on minis or expansion packs. :D

Though I would likely choose to be a boring guardsm- human.

Yep, still interested!

Me too!

Dark Archive

I'd be interested, I've played a fair amount of WFRP (2e and 4e).

I'd be interested as well.

Nice. Didn't know a lot of people are interested. I suppose all of you have a copy of the core rules?

Which edition are you thinking of running, eltonj? Do you have an adventure in mind yet?

Dark Archive

I think I've got most of the books, but happy to stick with Core if that's what we want to go with?

Dark Archive

Said 4th above...

Dwarven Troll Slayer please

Darkest Doomed wrote:

I have the 4th edition Core Rule Book. From Cubicle 7. No, I don't have an adventure in mind yet. The Enemy Within campaign looks promising though.

A group of us played into the second book of Enemy Within here on the forums before our game fell apart. It was a good adventure.

I'm currently running a mix of homebrew plus If Looks Could Kill & Something Knocking for a while.

Interested!

I'll likely just go with the dice unless I hate the concept...

Great.

Sigh -- I wasn't planning on running a Warhammer adventure at all, since the game is as deadly as Rolemaster. I guess we'll have to start recruiting.

Rules: Follow the Character Creation guidelines in 4th Edition. Please note that you are constrained to five races: humans, dwarves, halflings, high elves, and wood elves. Orcs (sadly) are the enemy, and you can't play a skavin. If you roll it for your characters, you get bonus XP. However, I'd like you to play something you're comfortable with.

I'll accept 5 PCs for this Warhammer game. Since it's Christmas in July, I won't turn down "Christmas Presents" from drivethru.

Do you want us to roll on here for Chargen? It's a lot of dice to roll.

spinningdice wrote:

Yes, I know, I was reviewing chargen. There are a lot of dice to roll, isn't there? Hmm.

If you want to roll, I have to see what you rolled. Yes, roll on here.

Dark Archive

Okay, I'll take a look at rolling something up tomorrow.

Race Roll: 1d100 ⇒ 72
Human

Weapon Skill: 2d10 + 20 ⇒ (8, 9) + 20 = 37
Ballistic Skill: 2d10 + 20 ⇒ (6, 9) + 20 = 35
Strength: 2d10 + 20 ⇒ (1, 10) + 20 = 31
Toughness: 2d10 + 20 ⇒ (7, 4) + 20 = 31
Initiative: 2d10 + 20 ⇒ (10, 6) + 20 = 36
Agility: 2d10 + 20 ⇒ (7, 6) + 20 = 33
Dexterity: 2d10 + 20 ⇒ (4, 6) + 20 = 30
Intelligence: 2d10 + 20 ⇒ (6, 7) + 20 = 33
Willpower: 2d10 + 20 ⇒ (8, 1) + 20 = 29
Fellowship: 2d10 + 20 ⇒ (3, 9) + 20 = 32

High Weapon and ballistic...High Init...

Come on warrior...

Random career: 1d100 ⇒ 71

Smuggler

Three random talents: 1d100 ⇒ 45
Night Vision
Three random talents: 1d100 ⇒ 29
Lightning Reflexes
Three random talents: 1d100 ⇒ 35
Luck

That's too powerful for the game. Try this:

weapon skill: 2d10 + 20 ⇒ (10, 5) + 20 = 35

still not a bad start

1 gold
Silver: 1d10 ⇒ 9
Copper: 2d10 ⇒ (10, 1) = 11

1-50% chance of Consume Alcohol: 1d100 ⇒ 69
1-50% chance of Secret Language: Thieves' Tongue: 1d100 ⇒ 89
1-25% chance of Speak Additional Language: 1d100 ⇒ 84

Wow, they made a huge change since first and second editions. The core concepts are the same though so here goes. Unless something completely doesn't fit, I'm going 100% random.

Race and Class/Career:
  • Race: 1d100 ⇒ 24
  • Career: 1d100 ⇒ 29

So, looks like a Human Artist it is. I saw chisel listed on the trappings for the career... I'm thinking sculpture.

Characteristics:
  • Weapon Skill: 2d10 + 20 ⇒ (2, 8) + 20 = 30
  • Ballistic Skill: 2d10 + 20 ⇒ (10, 6) + 20 = 36
  • Strength: 2d10 + 20 ⇒ (4, 2) + 20 = 26 +5 from Characteristic Advance
  • Toughness: 2d10 + 20 ⇒ (5, 4) + 20 = 29
  • Initiative: 2d10 + 20 ⇒ (10, 2) + 20 = 32
  • Agility: 2d10 + 20 ⇒ (2, 9) + 20 = 31
  • Dexterity: 2d10 + 20 ⇒ (2, 8) + 20 = 30
  • Intelligence: 2d10 + 20 ⇒ (1, 10) + 20 = 31 +5 more from Savvy
  • Willpower: 2d10 + 20 ⇒ (5, 10) + 20 = 35
  • Fellowship: 2d10 + 20 ⇒ (2, 3) + 20 = 25

Seems about average, overall.

Skills:
  • Animal Care - +3 (human)
  • Art (sculpture) - +10 (artist)
  • Consume Alchohol - +5 (artist)
  • Cool - +10 (5 artist, 5 human)
  • Endurance - +5 (artist)
  • Evaluate - +8 (5 artist, 5human)
  • Language (Bretonnian) - +5 (human)
  • Lore (Reikland) - +3 (human)
  • Perception - +5 (artist)
  • Ranged (bow) - +3 (human)
  • Stealth (urban) - +5 (artist)

Talents:
  • Doomed
  • Savvy or Suave: 1d100 ⇒ 11 Savvy it is.
  • Random 1: 1d100 ⇒ 67 Resistance
  • Random 2: 1d100 ⇒ 26 Hardy
  • Random 3: 1d100 ⇒ 8 Animal Affinity
  • Artistic

Starting Funds:
Silver 1 tier

Silver Shillings: 1d10 ⇒ 5

I think I can work with this. Likely won't stay an artist forever, but it will depend on the story I guess. I finalize this ideas and post something more later.

Lets see if I can manage to not screw up the rolling codes...

Lol, Please ignore, I screwed up the roller completely...

Race and Career:

race: 1d100 ⇒ 41
career: 1d100 ⇒ 87
Human Thief, I can work with that...

Characteristics:

WS: 2d10 + 20 ⇒ (4, 5) + 20 = 29
BS: 2d10 + 20 ⇒ (4, 1) + 20 = 25
S: 2d10 + 20 ⇒ (1, 3) + 20 = 24
T: 2d10 + 20 ⇒ (3, 7) + 20 = 30
I: 2d10 + 20 ⇒ (9, 10) + 20 = 39
Ag: 2d10 + 20 ⇒ (8, 4) + 20 = 32
Int: 2d10 + 20 ⇒ (3, 8) + 20 = 31
WP: 2d10 + 20 ⇒ (5, 9) + 20 = 34
Fel: 2d10 + 20 ⇒ (6, 3) + 20 = 29

Not so good in a fight, but pretty quick witted

Talents:

Talents:

1d100 ⇒ 46 Night Vision
1d100 ⇒ 47
re-roll dup: 1d100 ⇒ 1 Acute Sense
Going with Suave for +5 Fel

funds:

brass pennies: 2d10 ⇒ (6, 5) = 11

Dark Archive

Huh, I'm sure that all looked fine before I posted it..?

Think I somehow did a cut and paste error somewhere, editing to delete some rolls screws it up further... sometimes my incompetence astounds me.

Hmm. ignoring the second race/career roll and set of characteristics it's fine. Or I can just start over...

I also realise I've missed Dex (sigh). Screw it - let's start over.

Dark Archive

Race and Career:

Race: 1d100 ⇒ 5
Career: 1d100 ⇒ 42

Human Hunter

Characteristics:

WS: 2d10 + 20 ⇒ (8, 9) + 20 = 37
BS: 2d10 + 20 ⇒ (3, 4) + 20 = 27
S: 2d10 + 20 ⇒ (7, 3) + 20 = 30
T: 2d10 + 20 ⇒ (6, 4) + 20 = 30
I: 2d10 + 20 ⇒ (8, 7) + 20 = 35
Ag: 2d10 + 20 ⇒ (10, 10) + 20 = 40
Dex: 2d10 + 20 ⇒ (9, 6) + 20 = 35
Int: 2d10 + 20 ⇒ (4, 1) + 20 = 25
WP: 2d10 + 20 ⇒ (10, 3) + 20 = 33
Fel: 2d10 + 20 ⇒ (1, 4) + 20 = 25

That's not bad, though for a Hunter I'm a poor shot, and I'm a bit slow and surly

Talents:

1d100 ⇒ 44 Mimic
1d100 ⇒ 90 Super Numerate
1d100 ⇒ 17 Coolheaded
Suave
Doomed (Two by two they come for you)
So I'm not smart, but I'm good with numbers... Let's stick with that and pick Suave, something vaguely numerical for the Dooming

Coin:

brass pennies: 4d10 ⇒ (8, 6, 7, 6) = 27

Tentatively interested in this game. Rolling up basics for character, I'll put it all together later.

Race: 1d100 ⇒ 20
Career: 1d100 ⇒ 28

Human Advisor

Weapon Skill: 2d10 + 20 ⇒ (4, 6) + 20 = 30
Ballistic Skill: 2d10 + 20 ⇒ (10, 4) + 20 = 34
Strength: 2d10 + 20 ⇒ (3, 7) + 20 = 30
Toughness: 2d10 + 20 ⇒ (8, 1) + 20 = 29
Initiative: 2d10 + 20 ⇒ (8, 1) + 20 = 29
Agiliy: 2d10 + 20 ⇒ (9, 1) + 20 = 30
Dexterity: 2d10 + 20 ⇒ (9, 5) + 20 = 34
Intelligence: 2d10 + 20 ⇒ (4, 1) + 20 = 25
Willpower: 2d10 + 20 ⇒ (1, 2) + 20 = 23
Fellowship: 2d10 + 20 ⇒ (1, 6) + 20 = 27

Talents: 1d100 ⇒ 171d100 ⇒ 41d100 ⇒ 78

Coolheaded, Ambidextrous, Sixth Sense

Starting Wealth (Silver 2): 2d10 ⇒ (9, 2) = 11
Age: 15 + 1d10 ⇒ 15 + (9) = 24
Eye Color: 2d10 ⇒ (10, 10) = 20
Hair Color: 2d10 ⇒ (2, 2) = 4
Height: 2d10 ⇒ (7, 6) = 13

Alright, I've got the basic stats of the character done. I still need to spend coin and come up with all of the backstory and personality.

Probably be tomorrow before I can roll up the character... but still want in. :-)

Okay Marika is here. Still some polishing to do with background etc.

Here is the Smuggler

alright, thats three so far.

I had been holding off on this one since I'd already played through some of the proposed adventure. Assuming that isn't a problem with the GM I'll roll up though:

Species: 1d100 ⇒ 56 - Human (Humans are great: +20 xp)
Career Roll 1: 1d100 ⇒ 88 - Witch (Keep: +50 xp)

A witch isn't...what I'd been thinking of playing but that's interesting...

Weapon Skill: 2d10 + 20 ⇒ (4, 8) + 20 = 32
Ballistic Skill: 2d10 + 20 ⇒ (1, 10) + 20 = 31
Strength: 2d10 + 20 ⇒ (7, 5) + 20 = 32
Toughness: 2d10 + 20 ⇒ (10, 1) + 20 = 31
Initiative: 2d10 + 20 ⇒ (2, 9) + 20 = 31
Agility: 2d10 + 20 ⇒ (6, 1) + 20 = 27
Dexterity: 2d10 + 20 ⇒ (2, 10) + 20 = 32
Intelligence: 2d10 + 20 ⇒ (10, 9) + 20 = 39
Willpower: 2d10 + 20 ⇒ (7, 1) + 20 = 28
Fellowship: 2d10 + 20 ⇒ (1, 6) + 20 = 27

We'll try rolling again: (+0 xp)

Weapon Skill: 2d10 + 20 ⇒ (8, 10) + 20 = 38
Ballistic Skill: 2d10 + 20 ⇒ (5, 4) + 20 = 29
Strength: 2d10 + 20 ⇒ (3, 1) + 20 = 24
Toughness: 2d10 + 20 ⇒ (2, 1) + 20 = 23
Initiative: 2d10 + 20 ⇒ (3, 2) + 20 = 25
Agility: 2d10 + 20 ⇒ (9, 2) + 20 = 31
Dexterity: 2d10 + 20 ⇒ (10, 10) + 20 = 40
Intelligence: 2d10 + 20 ⇒ (2, 10) + 20 = 32
Willpower: 2d10 + 20 ⇒ (7, 6) + 20 = 33
Fellowship: 2d10 + 20 ⇒ (8, 9) + 20 = 37

That array is very polarized, but that makes some sense for a Witch:

Weapon Skill: 33
Ballistic Skill: 24
Strength: 25
Toughness: 32 (+5 Very Resilient) -> 37
Dexterity: 23
Initiative: 31
Agility: 29 (+5 Lightning Reflexes) -> 34
Intelligence: 40
Willpower: 38
Fellowship: 37

Talent 1: 1d100 ⇒ 12 - Artistic
Talent 2: 1d100 ⇒ 29 - Lightning Reflexes
Talent 3: 1d100 ⇒ 94 - Very Resilient

Wealth: 2d10 ⇒ (7, 6) = 13
Age: 1d10 + 15 ⇒ (2) + 15 = 17

I think that's all of the rolling. I'll try to pull the rest together today.

Okay. So far, so good.

Still need to spend my experience, work an appearance, and backstory... but here are the basics. I'll create an alias when we're ready to start.

Okay. Do anyone else like to create a character?

I'm not ready to start yet.

I don't understand the cost of weapons in the book.

I'd like throwing/melee daggers in a bandoleer. however many I can afford.

Can you tell me what I can get?

I haven't got there in the main book yet. I just got through Talents on my last read.

Do all of you want to start out with a package of items?

They do start us with a small package, but I was just customizing him a bit with the money that I rolled.

I'm reading it as well, but some of it is still confusing. Take your time to learn the rules. I'll very likely need the help :)
