Been slacking a bit the last few days with all games, hope to get a good RP post up this weekend.

Elf lvl:1 HP 7/7 AC 5 Melee 19 Ranged 19 Spell 1:1

I plan on something good tonight or tomorrow

* Saltmarsh *

OK Team

Please increment your characters to 4th level. Hit Points are rolled with a minimum of half hit dice +1, so d8 = 5.

You can spend 3,700 gp / 6 = 616 gp each. You can sell at half price.

Magic items can be purchased at the Faithful Quartermasters of Iuz, except potions of healing, that you can get at the Sea Grove of Obad-Hai.
* Common rarity = 50 +5d10 gp
* Uncommon rarity = 100 +5d100 gp

Take 1 week of Downtime before the storyline picks up.

I'd like to launch the next story at the end of the week, Thursday-ish.

Please confirm you are still interested in continuing the game.

cheers

Is there a local druid or someone who can shape change into a bird that I am aware of in the area.

Certainly willing to go to the Grove of Obad-Hai and ask around.

I think I know what Drusilla will do aside from spell research is possibly learning some skills not sure what skills.

I am definitely game to continue on. I think you're doing a great job with running the game, and I apologize if I lag in posting from time to time.

I'll work on my level up, downtime and purchases.

Wizards know all cantrips. You can retrain after a long rest

1st level spell scrolls are Common magic items
2nd level spell scrolls are Uncommon magic items

Unless you find another spellbook

cheers

I'm definitely still interested.

HP: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8 --> New HP = 32
ABI +2 DEX

I'm not sure I understand magic item costs in 5e. It looks like a +1 weapon is Uncommon, so if I wanted one I could buy it for something like Rapier +1: 100 + 5d100 ⇒ 100 + (76, 95, 15, 89, 1) = 376

...but +1 armor is Rare? Coming from PF, I'm used to +1 armor being a bit cheaper than a +1 weapon. Sounds like in this economy, the armor is prohibitive, but weapons are findable. Do I have that right?

While I'm at it:

Cloak of Elvenkind?: 100 + 5d100 ⇒ 100 + (6, 97, 45, 33, 53) = 334
Ring of Jumping?: 100 + 5d100 ⇒ 100 + (80, 77, 64, 27, 47) = 395

Any recommendations from folks who know 5e better?

Thanks!

EDIT

Can someone remind me (or point me toward) prior loot $$ we got? I seem to have lost track

Certainly willing to go to the Grove of Obad-Hai and ask around.

Remember, behind my the link in my profile, you have a description of Saltmarsh and the surrounding area.

Sea Grove of Obad-Hai - Open to the air and set in a grove outside town, the sea-grove is a gathering place for seagulls, sailors, and swamp folk, as well as an information market for traders and trappers. Ferrin Kastilar (male halfling), a somewhat melancholy druid of middle years, tends the shrine with his bullfrog companion, Lorys.

@Argyri Much of the previous loot is caught up in probate court with the Sea Ghost. Meaning, you'll probably get it later

@Tarn?

@Drusilla, you could Gameplay post learning to cook

Everyone on track to restart this Thursday/Friday? After leveling to 4th and a week of downtime?

cheers

Yes, having some severe writer's block but still wanting to get a little RP post up.

I plan too. Also took Air Bubble and Shadow Blade as spells for this level and War Caster

Gem of Brightness: 5d100 ⇒ (5, 35, 31, 59, 37) = 167+100=267

and will purchase 2 healing potions (-100). I have no idea how many of the last two I used, so will just assume I used both.

39.51 gold on hald.

OK, I'll get a Cloak of Elvenkind (334), and...

Breathing Bubble: 50 + 5d10 ⇒ 50 + (6, 8, 3, 3, 1) = 71 <-- I see this comes from Explorer's Guide to Wildmount. Is that an acceptable source? If so, I'll get it too (71).

Yes. Breathing Bubble is good.

* Common rarity = 50 +5d10 gp
* Uncommon rarity = 100 +5d100 gp

I was thinking of purchasing these.

Bracers of Archery Uncommon: 100 + 5d100 ⇒ 100 + (68, 52, 72, 77, 73) = 442

Medal of the Horizonback Common: 50 + 5d10 ⇒ 50 + (9, 2, 1, 2, 2) = 66
Breathing Bubble Common: 50 + 5d10 ⇒ 50 + (1, 9, 4, 4, 2) = 70

DM Jubal, & Blacklock:

Prosthetic Limb Common: 50 + 5d10 ⇒ 50 + (9, 9, 6, 3, 4) = 81

So I don't want to overstep player vision cause I think Blacklock's player wanted to play a character with a peg leg. However when I saw this item on the magic item list I knew that it is something that Badger would buy for the kid. That might be an interesting bonding moment between them, but I don't want to push one narrative on Blacklock if his player wants to play with a peg leg. I can just not buy it if we want to avoid it. Perhaps narratively it can be made of wood so that it is both a wooden leg and fully functional.

Yeah I knew about that magic item but wanted the pegleg. Unless DM imposes some disadvantage for having it I wanted to stick with it just for the aesthetic. Plus its from Eberron (ew ;) ).

Downtime:
For his week of downtime, Kwin will do religious service.

Several times during the week, Kwin leaves town. When he comes to crossroads, he stops to pray. For hours, he listens for signs that his lord, Fharlanghn, has service required of him elsewhere. But every road, path and trail leads him back to Saltmarsh. Clearly, his work there in the name of the Dweller on the Far Horizon is not yet complete.

Intelligence (religion) check 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (18) + 4 = 22

That would mean two favors for future use.

I'm sorry for the delay. It's been a really rough week. Getting my equilibrium back and I'll finish updates tomorrow.

Just returned from Punta Cana. Really tired, but checking in! Sorry that I couldn't post, but internet was horrible at the resort.

Lvl 4: Heavily Armored with +1 Str (18)

Uncommon Magic Item: 100 + 5d100 ⇒ 100 + (47, 60, 37, 87, 4) = 335
Cloak of Protection! Maybe...

spells and cantrips later?

Anyways, have alot to read up on and wife is calling. But I'm back. Thank you all for your patience.

Let's see how much they are asking for a few things:

Pole of collapsing 5d10 + 50 ⇒ (5, 7, 4, 5, 7) + 50 = 78
Unbreakable arrow 5d10 + 50 ⇒ (7, 7, 6, 8, 8) + 50 = 86
Breathing Bubble 5d10 + 50 ⇒ (3, 10, 2, 4, 7) + 50 = 76
Cloak of protection 5d100 + 100 ⇒ (46, 97, 3, 9, 79) + 100 = 334

That's 574 gp total. Add a rapier for 25 gp and I think he's set for gear.

Lvl 6 Warlock Tarn Copperlocks HP (49/49) AoA (15/15) AC (19) Saves (5/2/4/0/2/5) Spells (1/2) Current Buffs ( AoA ) HD (5/5) Flight (3/3)

Finishing up:

(1) Spells
* Cantrip: Green Flame Blade (melee warlock focus)
* Spells Known: Earthbind (rather than flying, I think that I'd rather pull the enemy down to his level)

(2) Buying cloak of protection for 335 gold. AC 19 is not bad.

Gold: 616 + 487 - 335 = 768

(3) Buying gleaming armor. So that his plate armor is always shiny and clean. If we are to be spending time in swamps, then this is a must!

Gleaming Armor: 5d10 + 50 ⇒ (6, 1, 6, 9, 9) + 50 = 81

(4) Also buying Clothes of Mending. This elegant outfit of traveler's clothes magically mends itself to counteract daily wear and tear. Pieces of the outfit that are destroyed can't be repaired in this way.

Clothes of Mending: 5d10 + 50 ⇒ (7, 2, 6, 8, 8) + 50 = 81

Gold: 768 - 81 - 81 = 606

(5) Ring of Swimming. You have a swimming speed of 40 feet while wearing this ring. One of the big issues with heavy armor is drowning. Not anymore. I was thinking about getting the much cheaper breathing bubble. But it would require (a) taking it out and putting it over his head (b) storing it until then and (c) would not alleviate the problems of sinking from the weight of armor and being at disadvantage when fighting. Will we be underwater? Maybe. Maybe not. But with plate armor, if we are, he will just be going down like a rock. Better to not have to worry about it.

Ring of Swimming: 100 + 5d100 ⇒ 100 + (100, 26, 71, 20, 59) = 376

Oof. That 100 hurt.

Gold: 606 - 376 = 230

Selling warhammer for 7.5 gold and light crossbow for 12.5 gold. With improved pact weapon, he can summon magic versions of those. Less to carry as well! 250 gold total.

All in all? With his Int8 and Wis8, Tarn can't be trusted to keep himself clean, nor to refrain from wearing his armor when it is far too dangerous to do so. So much of his gold has gone into baby-proofing it. Not that he sees it that way. To him, this is all a great honor.

That seems like a lot of money. Is it in keeping with the amounts his "merchant status" would suggest? Does it rival his former fortune or is it even more money?

Please help me explain how well I should answer those questions.

Sorry to be snarky, but it's my turn for covid. I'm not feeling well and getting worse.

thanks

So he used to be super rich.

Years ago he lost most of his fortune and has been a merchant, which I read as well off but not wildly rich.

100,000 in money and property deeds is that what I would expect from a "merchant" or is that more like his former super rich status? Or even greater.

I am trying to gauge if the amount is business as usual for him or a ridiculous windfall that would be restoring him to former glory or even greater wealth?

I'm sorry. I understand the line of questions. Just I was asking mechanically.

As per optional Downtime work rules, average people make 1 gp per week. None of your characters have ever seen 5,000 gp, because that's about 100 years of average income.

cheers

Male Forest Gnome Ranger 6 HP 36/49 | AC 16 |Hit Dice 4/4d10 |Init. +4 | Speed/Swim 25ft| Passive Perception 12

I am confused now. I am not asking for us to have the money. Nor do I understand what I am asking as a "mechanical question."

I am trying to as a player get a handle on what Badger who lives in Saltmarsh would understand this. I understand that what's on the boat is tons of money. I understand the pay out for us is pretty big too.

What I am trying to understand is the 100k consistent with the amount of money that local merchants deal with. Or is it more like how wealthy he was before or is it even greater.

Its a question about whether Badger might be suspicious. He used to be really rich lost it all. If he is making it all back suddenly or even more back suddenly that would stand out.

* Saltmarsh *

Badger

I really understood what you were asking from your first post. I was asking how would your character who is a swamp ranger have a clue about the merchants and money?

1d20 ⇒ 9

Ok. Badger thinks it’s plausible.
