Orst Tilboar |
"Walla, wallup the waiting women-bird. Hit the harmful harpy. Let's at least get in the room." "A poke or two from your rapier would help that."
Orst continues to cheer on his companions.
Shifty |
Walla presses the attack.
Attack: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (2) + 15 = 17

The Harpy lashes at Walla.
Attack: 1d20 + 20 ⇒ (7) + 20 = 27 - worst
Attack: 1d20 + 20 ⇒ (15) + 20 = 35
Damage: 2d4 + 9 + 7 ⇒ (3, 3) + 9 + 7 = 22
Though the blow lands the Harpy becomes fully aware of the bad luck plaguing it, it steps back from Walla in an attempt to flee...
AOO from Walla
Attack: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (10) + 15 = 25
Damage: 1d6 + 9 + 7 ⇒ (2) + 9 + 7 = 18

Toral Kargar |
Hi GM: Did you roll for the slumber hex with misfortune or is the harpy gone before I can slumber? In case the harpy is gone: can we see the harpy because the roof is gone? In case we can see the harpy: how far up is she?
Shifty |
The Harpy acts before you in the initiative count, and on its turn suffered the first-round effects of misfortune. It didn't like misfortune very much and moved out of the melee.
There is no roof on the belfry, it is open to the elements, and Walla can see the brightly coloured harpy, one of the original three harpies that appears to be a caster (who is magic missile-ing Fox a lot, and one of the others who keeps popping up over the wall to shoot arrows at Walla then dipping out of sight again
You estimate they are 20' up, positions marked on the map
Orst Tilboar |
Orst will move into the bell tower room and take up a defensive position, shield and sword out. Move and standard, 20' and total defense, AC 30.
Toral Kargar |
Toral time hops into the room to be able to see the creatures.
He then casts spiritual hammer on the red harpy.
spiritual hammer round 1/8: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (20) + 14 = 341d8 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5

The spiritual weapon strikes home.
The white harpy shrieks and the ambush is triggered - the two 'missing' harpies pop above the wall and start the assault on Toral

Fox is not favoring its chances. It had been the target of a magic missile barrage, and it knows any further hit may well be its last.
Fox is staying put. At 3 HP and no shield buff, one decent MM will kill it.
Lissa Meadowlark |
Lissa starts making her way back up the stairs, stopping to pet the Fox on her way.

He then moves back into the aisle.
Orst Tilboar |
Orst moves across the Belfry and readies to strike out at the first target to present itself in the window.

Walla Kosvan |
Walla prepares to strike if a harpy closes in.
Ready an attack if a harpy enters a threatened square.
Lissa Meadowlark |
Lissa moves into the space, holding her glaive to cover her allies.
Tiny fox |
The Harpies continue to beat their wings above you, still they wait...
Fox's thoughts on a spring attack right now..
It feels much better after Lissa heals it, giving her a grateful animal smile.
If there is enough shadow on the stairs, fox uses Hide in plain sight, and creeps to just outside of view. Behind the last bit of wall, from where one could peer into the room.
It hopes not reappearing, would feign instinct of staying away from danger.
Orst Tilboar |
Orst will sheath his sword, and draw out a javelin. He will swiftly, smite the red harpy. "Iomadae, help we to win victory today."
Orst Tilboar |
Which harpies have bows? Gray, seems to with the bow damage. But do they all have bows. White is the spell caster? Red was the sword fighter? Just want a better picture of which one are doing what.
"They are waiting for something, maybe a trap to collapse the floor." Orst hurriedly looks around.
"I think they are waiting for us to all get into the belfry. Look for signs of them having weakened the tower." Orst is no structural genius, and will wait to see if anyone spots anything.
"In the mean time, Toral, have your hammers beat on the archers. If we do have to retreat, we will want less arrows shot at us as we do so."
Orst smiles at the eyeballing harpies. "Let's see how well you catch javelins."
Shifty |
Both grey and black have bows in hands. Red is sword in hand, and yes white has been noted as a caster (and also Javelin of Lightning thrower). Toral can move the hammers back out, but also needs to move back into line of sight to do so (which starts eating action economy as the hammers have returned to him)
Orst Tilboar |
Why did they return to him? The spell indicates they keep attacking the target until another target is designated. Did he call them back or the creature go out of the 120 foot range? I missed why that happened.
Orst Tilboar |
Well, heck that is not helpful. We need them hammering away. Thank you for the clarification.
"Toral, I'll shield you at the door if you want, but let's get those hammers working."
Toral Kargar |
Toral moves in and directs both spiritual hammers on the harpy in yellow!
spiritual hammer round 3/8: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (6) + 14 = 201d8 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7
spiritual hammer round 2/8: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (3) + 14 = 171d8 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 2 = 10
Shifty |
Just checking the action economy.
Standard - Cast invis.
Free - 5' step
Move action - deploy first hammer
*You have two spells in effect, not one spell with two hammers, so that is two move actions to get them into the combat.
*Invis will break when the first hammer attacks - Invisibility
"The spell ends if the subject attacks any creature. For purposes of this spell, an attack includes any spell targeting a foe or whose area or effect includes a foe".
Are you certain this is your action?
Toral Kargar |
Sorry, I change my action. I will only move in and direct the weapon to attack. Next round I’ll direct another weapon and then cast invisibility.
Shifty |
Ok but bear in mind if the weapons attack whilst you are invisible it will just keep breaking your invis.
Toral steps out, triggering the awaiting assault.
Two of the Harpies begin calling their song...

GM, how much shadow is within the room? Is it possible to navigate while under the effect of hide in plain sight?

I'll use my gm reroll on that.

Toral shrugs off the effects and the Harpies look disappointed that only Trill fell victim to the effects.
Torals first hammer goes whizzing out to attack the harpy but doesn't land.
The two waiting archers draw their aim on Toral, after finding the dwarf a harder target than they anticipated, they choose accuracy over speed.
