I will provide some more information about rules, expectations, and such in the following days.


Few rules:
- This is a game and we are here to have fun. Both you and me
- This is a joined project, we all participate in it. GM creates as much scenery as players do. You can push life in mundane objects, change waiting into a conversation or an activity. Feel empowered to create the story.
- I will expect 1 post per workday from you (workdays being Mon-Fri). Through the weekend it would be nice if you could post at least once, but it is nice to have. If you can't post during weekends you don't have to tell me. I do appreciate heads up about any absences during the week.
- This is a public game and we all will be following the common courteous. Bullying, trash-talking, or even passive-aggressive posts will not be tolerated. Give people the benefit of the doubt and assume the best intentions. If you are angry at someone take a break and write the post asking about motives the other day. Finally, if the world collapsed on you and you snapped at another player it will be expected from you to exercise the forgotten art of apologizing for online behavior. GM'ing takes a considerable amount of time and dealing with mediation is not something that I want to invest my time into.
- As a GM I made mistakes, interpret the rules badly etc. Feel free to raise it, ask questions, etc. I have no trouble admitting to a mistake and changing some decisions. If you as a player look for a table with a always right GM, who knows the rules inside-out, this is not one of those tables ;)
- I value highly role-playing. I will give bonuses to vivid descriptions of your skill checks. I would like to remember your PC after this game is over.
- I appreciate feedback, I want to GM interesting and engaging games. If you see something that I can be doing better. Or don't like something that I do please raise it. I do experiment with different things and not all of them work out ;)

First and foremost: we still have 3 weeks to begin, 1 week before the start I will begin to post to give you an opportunity to RP and introduce your PC's.

Since some of you might be playing your PC's at local groups and conventions I assume you may swap your characters. Looking at the sign-up sheet there are some level discrepancies within the team, but we will try to cope with that.

I know all of the players that so far signed up, and most of you have played at my tables (which bodes well, as it means that I did not scare you off!) I also like how each and one of you RP during games. So let me say it: I have high hopes for this table! ;)

I'll be joining this game, but I'm still undecided on a character. I've signed up for multiple games with mixed levels, so I'm just waiting to see if anything crystallizes.

For some reason I completely forgot I signed up for this game... I must have done it during a 'missing Farol fugue' and didn't remember. Uh anyways, I have a few different characters I could try to bring.

Zherayiss, a level 2 draconic sorcerer,
Igaraise, a level 1 storm druid,
as well as plans for a martial focused bard or a summoner (assuming they are legal in Secrets of Magic)

Hey Sedoriku! Great to see you again at one of my tables. It is nice when people sign up more than once to someone GM'ing a game ;) It means that not everything went terribly wrong.

So far you have:
- Hornbori, lvl 4 dwarven fighter with shield and full-plate armor
- Arfsnarf, lvl 3 sorcerer with a clacky stone
- Kornel, lvl 2 sorcerer with his soul on sale, but they have other PC's
- Mandoo, lvl 1 monk whom as a PC I never met
- Watery Soup, word on the street is that he might bring lvl 3 PC

I think it will be a bit all over the place in terms of levels. So you just need to be careful. I read through the scenario and it does not look deadly but I haven't played it (apparently I either play or GM scenarios)

In the bottom there are written instructions that explains that if you do that I will roll recall knowledge for those skills. Is this what you want? (there is a high chance of critical fails for recall knowledge ;)). I forgot that no every goblin can read;), and written instructions might not be good enough :(

In retrospect, trying out a character with a very good potential to go down in a fight due to having two ways to get targeted in a high tier game might not be the best idea. I have another PC at a different table who could fit the levels here better so I'll be bringing in Symeon who you know and GMed for before. He'll be able to keep everyone on their feet and living including our level 1!


Potipher is a healer and could keep everyone up at high tier, if we have some boons for the level 1.

I will not be bringing Ananki in any case, I've got too many characters as is.

The level Boons are free to buy if you have 20+ reputation with a faction. Sadly Symeon started at level 2 from a boon that gave him 12 reputation but the system doesn't recognize it and so he can't buy his yet... But it was only good for spell casters, and Mandoo isn't one.

Mandoo and Symeon have been adventure mates in the past (#2-01), though I suspect that Symeon may not recognize the monk in his current incarnation. Despite Mandoo being my 2001, I've never been very happy with him and haven't played him much. I've been taking advantage of his seemingly perpetual level 1 status to reconstruct him in different ways to see if I can salvage the character. If he were to fail to survive this adventure due to his relatively squishy state, I won't mourn him much.

So 23 means we play up. That also means that:

- Increase every DC the PC has by 1.
- Increase the attack modifiers, attack damage, spell damage, saving throw modifiers, skill modifiers, Perception modifiers, and AC of the PC by 1.
- Increase the Hit Point totals of the PC by 10 or by 10%, whichever is higher.

@Mandoo - do you mind adding the above to your tagline? Otherwise, I might forget that (AC, HP, and saves are the most important ones)

I've modified Mandoo's tagline and full profile to take these bonuses into account. I'll return it all to the previous state once the adventure is over.

@Symeon - 'Pursuing a Lead on whatever attacked those explorers, and maybe the caves themselves.' Let us wait for when you finish talking with the prospector but those seem fine.

You left the Lodge so officially the briefing is over, you feel a gentle smile of your Deity of choice and get 1 HP each. Mandoo and Kornel get 2 HP each.

Following the adventure, I will be granting 1 HP every hour of play -> 1.5 weeks of PBP game roughly. So next HP will be granted around the 15th of September. I shall try to remember to do that.

I just noticed that I used the wrong base profile of Mandoo's when I went to add the +1 adjustments. I accidently used his pre-tweaked-rebuild profile instead of his latest and greatest. I have redone the +1 adjustments based on his current profile, so you may notice a 1 or 2 point +/- difference in places between what was listed previously and what is listed now. I have also updated his tagline and the macros sheet accordingly. Sorry about that.

Before we enter
- Please specify what items are you holding in your hands, in the unlikely event of a fight I prefer to know if you travel with weapons or empty-handed
- Please put your icon in marching order, I will try to keep to your formation, so you don't have to stand in a rectangle. I will adjust the formation in tight spots.

@Mandoo I saw that I never commented on your profile changes. Sure not a problem ;)

And a reminder based on Kornel declaration - you should pick an item from schools, you don't have to declare it to me. I trust your honesty, just track it on your own so that you don't forget it.

The marching formation looks good to me. Keep me in the backrows and you'll hear no complaints.

If I can lodge Hornbori in a chokepoint, he's hard to dislodge. I'm happy tanking, but maybe our monk and investigator can deal with anyone who attacks our rear line.

Also, given my tower shield, I strongly suggest anyone who can get behind me do so. The shield provides cover (+2 AC) to anyone behind it. Plus you can spend your third action to gain a further +2 AC behind it.

Given his darkvision and preference for his spells, Arfsnarf will be carrying nothing. In order he would be towards the back but doesn't necessarily have to be at the far back position.

Good job on the first guard, The hardness can be brutal for those who deal 1 dice damage. As you should have seen they have 6 hardness which means that magic missile does not do anything. Keep that in mind...

Huh, I actually skipped reading the spell description and hunted for threads asking on that topic. Lesson learned so magic missiles would be combined against hardness...

And that is correct, spell caster sends missiles but can't shoot them one at a time and see when the enemy fails.

My guess would be that Arfsnarf would either send 3 missiles at Blue or split it: 2 blue-1 red.

I will just keep going for now saying that Blue was destroyed by all three missiles (as this is likely) and will clarify in the future, sorry Arfsnarf!


@Hornbori regarding Battle Medicine, in another game that I am playing I learned that there was an errata in FAQ regarding battle medicine and now it requires one hand free to use:

Update: We will be updating the tools revamp to indicate that worn healer's tools (along with other tool kits) take only one hand to use, as you don't have to hold the whole kit in your other hand, just pull out the things you need. What this means for Battle Medicine is that you only need one free hand to perform it with worn healer's tools, you don't need both hands.

That means that you can attack then drop your weapon followed by battle medicine. Or do something else.
