◆◆ Cast (somatic, verbal) acid arrow vs BLUE Spell attack, acid damage: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (6) + 9 = 153d8 ⇒ (2, 7, 4) = 13 1d6 persistent acid damage

The next bolt of acid starts low to the ground, passing between the monks legs and ascending until it maybe? strikes the duergar in front of him.

I would say standard cover against Blue

Mandoo takes a step and lands a solid kick at the dwarf knee, the duergar bends down from the pain, which makes Mandoo's elbow miss its mark. 1 hit vs Blue for 9 dmg

Then the monk tries to use the altar to get some protection.

Arfsnarf sends another acid arrow, but it hits the wall instead of the target. Miss

You keep on defending in this close-quarters fight with Duergars. You are certain that every kind of dwarf might have an advantage over you in such a situation, at least psychological.

It is clear to Mandoo that the duergar's attacks are both more accurate and more damaging that anything he can throw at them. It is only a matter of time before he succumbs to their attacks. But what choice does he have? His job here is to keep the dwarf from reaching the spellcasters so that they can do their job without interference. So Mandoo steps up into flanking position with the hardbound Acts of Iomedae and unleashes two quick punches to the duergar's nose before stepping back and putting some distance between them.

Hornbori's attacks should benefit from flanking with Mrs. Perkin's book.

Yes! Thank you. I assume the GM accounts for Flat-footed opponents, rather than me adding it in, but perhaps I should point it out for a busy GM. Dude's flat-footed!

Dude is flat-footed ;) Sure. It does not hurt to mention it ;)

Mrs. Perkins moves, animates her tome to aid Hornbori and heals Kornel.

Symeon is able to find a good opening and he releases an arrow that hits the duergar in the arm. Then it is the dwarf that takes down the foe with a mighty strike.

The duergar falls to the ground motionless. With a bit of healing, Kornel opens his eyes, the battle medicine from Symeon brought it to consciousness while Mrs Perkins spell kept on healing him.

Beside four bodies the chamber is still. You feel the constant feeling of being watched whenever you get closer to the anvil atop the stone pillar.

When you check the last room you see shackles hang from short chains attached to the patched walls in this room. Pallets of filthy rags litter the floor. A stone bridge rises over the lava to the north, and another hallway leads south

Are you doing something specific in those rooms?

Hornbori strides over to the anvil and looks it over for religious symbols.

Mrs. Perkins will Refocus by quilting, and heal everyone to full with life boost. She'll help search the rooms but she does not have detect magic.

Mandoo lets out a sigh of relief when the last of the duergar go down. He sits down and let's the remainder of Mrs. Perkins' healing wash over him.

Another 12hp recovered; now at 27/30. Good enough.

"Ahhh. Much better. My thanks, Mrs. Perkins. For a moment there I thought that Arfsnarf's fortune for me would come true and that I would not leave here alive. As I suspected, it turned out to be merely superstitious nonsense."

Mandoo then searches the bodies of the duergars and helps the group try to find anything of interest in the rooms. He takes a few steps down each of the two wide hallways leading off to the east and south, but it is clear (from the lack of map) that these lead further into the Darklands and not worth exploring further at this time.

Symeon also helps patch people up with his medical skills. Continual Recovery means he can patch people about as quickly as Mrs. Perkins

After everyone is patched up, Symeon also takes a look at the anvil, curious if it really is a holy symbol or not.

You heal up, staying in the room with the anvil. When Hornbori and Symeon begins to look through it they recognize Droskar symbol. You can clearly see that this place was consecrated to the Dark Smith.

After a quick discussion, you know that you can either remove all Droskar symbols and perform a religious ritual to cleanse the place, or destroy the altar.

The now-healed Kornel smiles and chuckles as though he didn't come close to dying a few moments ago. "Ah hah. Losing consciousness is rather relaxing in this heat, ah hah."

As the one of the group's experts on religious matters, Kornel has an opinion on the anvil altar. "It, ah, would be a shame to destroy a piece of the architecture, no? Better to just consecrate the area, eh?"

(Do we know *how* to perform the ritual in question, or just that a cleansing ritual exists which can be carried out by NPCs?)

Symeon looks at the statue and then the rest of the group. "Personally, Unless we're willing to haul it back to the surface with us, there's little reason to preserve the statue itself. Once we leave there's a good chance that the duergar just come back and re-consecrate the place."

Watching Hornbori drag it along the ground, he nods. "That is a great idea! Make it nice and maleable to remove the holy symbols and then see if the ifrit souled people back over there would like some nice raw materials to work with."

Mandoo listens to the others deciding what to do about the altar and its anvil. He really doesn't know why everyone is getting worked up about it. If they were to toss the anvil into the lava, the duergars would probably just make another one. Still, the venture-captain had said to clear out any threats and an evil magical anvil might be included in that, so why not toss it into the lava just in case.

The monk gets up and goes over to Hornbori. "Here, let me help you with that; it'll go easier with the two of us."

Arfsnarf shrugs at the proceedings. Yeah, melting seem easiest. May as well turn this heat back on our own problem. it probably only slow down duergars though, not stop them.

You spent some time and energy taking the anvil from the column and carrying it towards the lava. After you throw it in, you lose the sensation that you had before. That chamber with bedrolls now feels normal.

And that would be the end. You completed all of the objectives.

Without much to do, you begin to walk back. When you pass the Ifrits you notice that they are already packed. "We can't stay here if duergars are around. They might keep coming, we should probably leave this place." says Yandrada and Slayse and Rowsh nod their heads.

You secure the two bodies to take them to Olfden.

After two days of uneventful travel, you come back to Olfden. Elsitt, the fellow comrade of the fallen is both glad and sad to see bodies. "At least now I will be able to properly bury them."

The Venture-Captain Luna Aldred awaits your report in the lodge, knitting as you are saying.

Feel free to RP the debrief

Hornbori helps the dwarves pack. They certainly can't stay, but he's marked this place. He's going to push the Society to investigate further and drive the duergar out completely. If the Society won't act, he can communicate with his relatives in Highhelm.

"We found the place," Hornbori tells Luna, leaning on his big shield. "It was an old dwarven outpost, possibly part of a large complex. There was a family of dwarves living there, unaware that evil duergar lurked nearby, worshiping their rotten master Droskar. We fought them, we beat them and we destroyed their altar. Then we escorted the family back here."

"There's more trouble to come from that place, I'd swear on it. The Society needs to arrange a more thorough search with a larger force. The Droskari scum won't simply go away quietly."

"Give her some space, quilt," Mrs. Perkins commands. Addressing the Venture-Captain, she adds that there were some unexplored tunnels that lead deeper into the mountains.

Symeon also helps the dwarves pack their things and adds a few pots of his soon to be patented anti-mold liquid as well as a few mundane healing supplies. "Make sure to stay safe and that you don't get yourselves hurt!"

Back in town, Symeon adds to Hornbori's accounts. "Seemed someone was trying to reclaim the old city from the lavas, but then got taken over by the duergar who moved in afterwards. Used a brown mold to cool the lava into stone, but started to do it unsafely. We should probably finish exploring the caverns out, and make sure that they can't reclaim the space or they'll likely start to capture slaves all over again."

At the de-briefing...

Yeah, the duergar is bad news. They no match for this team though!

The goblin Arfsnarf stands proudly for a moment before continuing.

But yeah, they take slaves so I agree we should send sometime to scare them off once and for all. Just not Mandoo. He has bad fortune due. Any minute now...
