Dole out items anyone can use, sell the rest and split evenly.
DM Fern
I added a loot tracking spreadsheet I've used in other games to the links above, and put Diego's list in it. Just to have a handy place for everyone to see everything. When someone claims something and adds it to their personal inventory they can erase it from the group cache =)
Thanks for tracking all that, Diego, I apologize for not thinking to add the sheet sooner.

Dole out items anyone can use, sell the rest and split evenly.
And for items multiple people can use? Maybe roll high 1d20 wins it?
Alistair Fox
If we can't work it out among ourselves. Normally its pretty obvious who needs it most or who having it would benefit the team the most. That is the teetering point to me, what helps the team.
Nico Solter
I don't need anything on the list. Early on, when there are only a couple of useful items to keep and everyone needs some money, I think it's best to exclude items that are kept by someone when splitting the gold. A lot of the things that are kept are expensive enough to not only eat of all the person's share of gold, but put them in debt against future splits.
Usually within a couple more levels everyone has found an item or two to keep, and any rebalancing, or changes to how loots splits are done can happen then.
Diego Davino
For the most part, I agree with both of you. I just felt it would be prudent to toss the subject out there in case someone else had a difference in opinion. I know I have seen groups have issues with this subject do to someone in the group not being like minded.
Diego Davino
For downtime: Aside from following up on any leads about our findings, I think we should have the items we found identified and appraised. That way we can determine what we want to sell and what we do not. Once that's complete, we can split the coins and shop during down time.
Diego Davino
OK, assuming we receive 100% for the dust and 60% for everything else, I came up with the following numbers. Note that I'm equipping the ROP +1 on Diego as Alistair suggested and I don’t think we should sell the potion of healing. If anyone else feels they could use any of these items, speak up now.
ROP +1 / Diego
Potion of CLW / ????
That leaves 8,880 gp for the remaining items and currency. Divided five ways gives each of us 1,776 gp to shop with. I’m not going to write this in stone until everyone gives an ok to sell everything except the ROP+1 and the potion. If any other items are claimed, then a new total will need to be worked out.
Items that I think are worth considering if anyone can use them are the Wand of shocking grasp (28) and the +1 longsword.
Lief Stoutspear
Fun fact about Lief: he was trained to fight like everyone else--with his shield on his left arm and his sword in his right hand--but he's actually left-handed (which is why he generally attacks with just his shield when he's not able to use 2WF). All that is the long way of saying I can't really switch from a shortsword to a longsword because my sword is actually my off-hand weapon and I'd take huge 2WF penalties for using a one-handed (instead of light) weapon in my off-hand.
As for the wand, it looks like Orin hasn't gotten a chance to update his skills in his profile since we hit 2nd level, but I think he can use it on a 12 or better... it does more damage than his bow, so anytime he needs a 12 or better to hit with his bow he'd actually be better off rolling the UMD check.
Diego Davino
OK, new total excluding the wand would be 8,568 / 5 = 1,713 each to spend.
ROP +1 / Diego
Potion of CLW / Unclaimed
Wand of shocking grasp / Orion
The potion has not been claimed yet, but someone should keep it for an emergency heal if needed.
DM Fern
If there is anything else folks want to do downtime-wise I'll give it one more day and move the game along tomorrow. Conversations you want to have with townfolk or each other, stuff you want to buy with your 1,713 g (thanks for doing all the math Diego!!), research on lore or spells, retraining, whatever. Couple of you were pretty thorough about what you'd be up to, wanted to give you all a chance.
Like I said, tomorrow the downtime will end and the story shall progress =D
Nico Solter
Sorry, been busy for the last few days. I'm good with the loot sale as discussed. One of the melee people should take the CLW potion.
Lief Stoutspear
I’ll do some shopping today. Also, for the record, I keep the side-hustle (selling dirty comics) secret from my parents (as best I can).
Lief Stoutspear
I was assuming we were all still working our normal shift with the guard (and therefore wouldn’t have enough time to earn income from a second job)?
Diego Davino
I intend to do some shopping as well. I'll work out a list later tonight.
If no one claims the potion of CLW, Diego will slide it into his pouch.
Alistair Fox
That's a good starting point for the CLW potion.
I can't modify the treasure tracker, not sure if anyone else can. I was intending to mark items sold.
What's the availability of:
+1 Darkwood Buckler
Darkwood Buckler
+1 Leather Studded armor
MW rapier
Lief Stoutspear
One of the downsides to 2WF is that it makes using potions really tricky, so I’d rather Diego or Alistair take it.
If they’re available, I’d like to buy a cloak of resistance +1 and trade in my sword and shield for masterwork versions.
Diego Davino
I would like to sell off Diego's current armor and falchion at 60% and then buy the following.
(MW) Cold-iron Falchion
(+1) Breastplate
Orin Telmar
I'm really sorry guys. 4 weeks ago I started a second job to try to make ends meet. I had hoped to be able to keep up, but working 70 hours a week is not leaving me any time for meaningful posts and seeing the unread posts pile up is honestly causing me anxiety instead of being a fun creative outlet.
I need to cut my games way back to preserve some sanity. Again, I'm really sorry to have to pull the plug on this game, but I need to do a little self-care. Best of luck going forward.
Lief Stoutspear
Well, well, well… acting sheriff for a week and all of the sudden Orin’s off the street riding a desk. I see how it is.
Don’t worry, he and I are IRL friends so I’m allowed to give him a hard time.
In all seriousness though, losing Orin means we have zero healing ability… do we maybe want to retcon our purchases to pick up some cure potions? Is there anyone who can, or would like to, pick UMD and maybe we could chip in for a clw wand? I’d offer but I’d need two different traits to make it feasible and I need both my traits for my knowledges.
DM Fern
On that note I'm gonna hang on a minute before moving gameplay forward as we sort out potential new people. They could definitely be prisoners we free up ahead, but if we want to stick to the premise of the game and have them be members of the watch like the rest of you, we can retcon slightly and have Hemlock send them along with you before you leave town. So perhaps we sort this out a bit before spending...
hours to find Thistletop: 9d4 ⇒ (3, 4, 4, 1, 4, 1, 4, 3, 2) = 26
...the next few days scouting the Nettlewood >.>
KHT, if you read this, feel free to introduce yourself. Nico's friend is welcome to say hello, too!
One last big thing: I was planning on having you guys hit level 3 shortly into Thistletop, but since we might be held up a few days with this anyway, lets just jump the gun a little and be level 3 now! That way new folks can build at level 3 and keep it simple.
Nico Solter
I've sent a message to the person I know. I'm not certain they would be up for it but we were in a game together that shut down a few weeks ago and they don't have a bunch of currently active games.
Also, woot! Level 3!
Lief Stoutspear
New level, yay!
I hadn’t really planned on multiclassing at all, but after being irked that his knowledge about magic didn’t help figure out what was going on with the pools, Lief might pick up a level of something with some magical ability, I’m not sure what though? Maybe a level of investigator, or magus? Do we know what the new person or people are playing yet?
Nico Solter
3rd Level Bolt Ace:

Alistair Fox
Hate to see you go but i’ve been there with the crazy work hours. God speed and take care of yourself.
I could pick up a level of bard daredevil. It would give me UND and cure light wounds. It kind of fits my theme. I shall wait to see what we pick up before i decide.
Diego Davino

Hello everyone! Thank you for having me in the game Fern!
I have been considering what I want to do and I think I am interested in going down the loveliness that is Dragon Disciple and I'm going to go Bloodrager to do so. I have thought of a simple enough background for the character to make it work and I'm pretty excited for it. I'll have an alias up and running sometime today, if not tomorrow. :)
Lief Stoutspear
Lief's profile has been updated. I took a level of investigator (with the psychic detective archetype). Now I can actually detect magic and identify items/phenomena, and I get to add inspiration to all my knowledges (so I'm even better at those). It helped my will save too.
Downsides: no increase in BAB, only +7 hp.
For my feat I took missile shield (which is basically deflect arrows only you use your shield instead of an unoccupied hand).
Going forward, I'm not sure exactly when I'll take what, but I'll probably pick up 4 levels of investigator eventually (and stick with slayer for the rest)?
Bjorn Sornstad
Alias is made and almost ready. Going to focus on natural attacks because I never have before so we'll see how that goes!
Bjorn Sornstad
Okay, Bjorn is mechanically all set. Just working on the fluff now.
Bjorn Sornstad
Thank you! I have a wand of cure light wounds and an okay UMD roll! I'll do what I can for us :D
Diego Davino
An extended welcome from me as well. I'm a bit interested if you are going to be a member of the watch or not. Bloodrager guard is probably someone people don't F-With. If he is a guard, he will likely have an interesting reputation / background.
