"Eh, fool of a dwarf. What you tell them? 'Excuse me, guard, me is contestant in illegal fighting competition. Me kill these two here on floor, but it okay because they bad guys, look, me follow Erastil, so you let me go.'"
"Good luck with that. Not likely we see you at theatre. No pay for you."
Tooth shakes his head at Almaas' naïvety.
"You want antitoxin, Saya? Me got one now, you can take. Easy to replace in Absalom, eh?"
Tooth and Claw are prepared to leave and find another inn.

![]() |

I .... don't think we need to tell them the full story ... just the bare facts, i.e. we were here, they burst in and attacked without provocation, we defended ourselves. That's basically it. We don't know who they are, why they did it. I mean we can speculate but that's all it is. Although I agree that changing our location is a good idea

![]() |

The dwarf raises an eyebrow to the Tengu and smiles.
He then looks at Katrina and nods.
"Exactly."

![]() |

Towards Tooth she says .- Its always bleeding the soulution to everything?
As she see's that the sitaution escaates on her own group she mentions
People, we need tp calm down, we are turing against each other and in this our enemies may be more successful than with their clever ruses, so please lets calm down before we turn at each other - *looks over tooth then addresses - And no calling names mr. Baron that speaks poorly of you -
*Towards Almaas says*
I really undestand that you are trying to do the right thing here, masterdwarf, and i deeply respect that, but for the time being we need to see this thorugh, We need to complete what we can in order for the greater duty we have sworn as well, I promise you that once we finish with this i'll acompany you to whichever instance you prefer to report and give follow up to this, but for the time being, this maybe just another ruse of our competitors to take us out,I am not asking you to compromise your beliefs, i am asking you to see the greater picutre, and then we'll together face whateer consecuences our duty has, Please heed my words, masterdwarf
*Towars the Tengu she nods once as she finalizes an encantation that would put the posion at ease*
To make things easier for everyone and in case the posion is not yet removed, She'll spell Kenning delay poison to be cast on herself

![]() |

"Yes, yes. Bleed it out. Is healthy. It help if you pray to Blood God." Tooth nods vigourously.
"Eh, me not care if Almaas arrested, more shinies for me! But me not be here. Also me master of disguise! They never catch me." The baron taps the side of his beak and winks.

**HOUSE GM ANNOUNCEMENT**
There is a loud banging at the door! Moments later the door flies open revealing a dozen armed tengu behind it. They quickly storm into the room, blades drawn.
______________
Table GMs, this is your wind-down notice for Act Four! Act Five begins in 24 hours!

![]() |

NOW what? Katrina exclaims, still in her performing outfit This is starting to get ridiculous. Look boys, if you're here for a song and dance, I'll gladly oblige.
She steps back towards the stage and starts singing.

GM Blazej |

One thing the party finds apparent is that the intruding tengu are not part of the town guard, but are instead monks and attendants of the competition. They quickly pause as they enter and see the signs of combat that had concluded less than a minute prior.
They looks to Katrina as she berates them and after some bewilderment they sheathe their weapons and give a bow. One steps forward and issues her apologies to Katrina and the others present, "my greatest apologies for the interruption. I had heard the sound of fighting and rallied reinforcements. I'm thankful you are all safe."
Several of their number disperse. Some question those still in the inn, asking what has occurred. They ask if they attackers declared any intent, if they indicated what drove their attack, and who they struck at. The bartender, with a wealth of coin from Meylara partially influencing her testimony to be less truthful, suggests she didn't get close to the fight, but believes that the assassins contended with a team of halfling warriors.
Some of the monks investigate and turn their gaze upon the attackers, searching through their cloaks and any remaining gear that might be left on them.

![]() |

Almaas also looks at the gear of the fallen men.
perception: 1d20 + 22 ⇒ (5) + 22 = 27
"Why did we not think of searching them!" he asks as if the whole team made a mistake.

![]() |

"Eh? We did. We find strange coin. Show monks."

![]() |

Almaas seems to be slightly embarrassed.
"Oh, ehhh, yes! That is clearly my fault to have missed that! I take full responsibility!!"

![]() |

Tooth, please hold the coin safe and to yourself. We have no assurance other than their word that these fine Tengu are on our side. We should be extra cautious right now, especially.
Sense Motive: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (18) + 9 = 27

GM Blazej |

The monks respectfully step aside as Almaas glances at the bodies and nod to Tooth.
"You need offer no explanation or apology," she responds in Taldane for the benefit of others. "You were under a galling attack and we aren't ones to judge how you react. We should be the one to make any apologies as this attack should not have been allowed to happen." Glancing toward the attackers again she takes on a firm resolve as she declares, "if this is involved with these qualifiers, I will ensure those responsible reap no reward from this attack."
Meylara gets the sense that she is earnest and shows not even disdain for the group despite the combat the party had with her fellow proctors within the qualifier earlier in the day. She seems more concern about the issue of the rules and challenges of the qualifiers being bypassed.

**HOUSE GM ANNOUNCEMENT**
The first rays of light creep into the inn’s window, accompanied by a loud knocking at the door. Someone in the hall screeches, "The sun is up! Time to gather your tickets and head to The Opera!"
****
Arriving at the opera, you are greeted by a trio of actors dressed in the garb and makeup of a traditional opera from Lung Wa. They seat you in the first few rows. Looking around you see a few others also in attendance. Strangely, there are no sets and the unlit stage is empty except for three plain wooden chairs. Then Kiang Zhen strides onto the stage and addresses the audience.
"Today I am treating myself to a display of opera, which all of you shall perform for me! Backstage, you shall find traditional costumes that will determine the roles you will portray. You may choose these roles yourself, but be forewarned - you must act within the limits of your role. Your objective is to perform an epic combat against a rival group. However, there must be no bloodshed. Any shows of lethal force will result in your immediate disqualification from the event. The troupe able to force its opponents to yield is the victor. Now go and prepare yourselves for the evening’s performance. It starts in 10 minutes!"
______________
Table GMs, you have until October 16th to run Act Five!

![]() |

"Wh... whaaaat?? No blood?"
Baron Tooth looks quite confused. Then an idea arises in his cunning brain.
"It matter whose blood is spilled? Opponents subject to same rule, eh?" The Baron asks Kiang Zhen.

GM Blazej |

Kiang Shen laughs as he looks down upon Tooth. "All abide by the same rules blood hungry contender. I will be the judge if there is any question of 'who' caused bloodshed first if there is any debate. Following the events last night though, you would be best not to test me." She towers over in her golden skinned fiendish form to emphasize the point. "And you now have nine minutes."
Backstage there are a variety of costumes available and a number of metallic skinned celestial attending to aid in dress and makeup. They quickly reveal the various costumes and begin offering their complements on the Pathfinder choices.
There are eight different costumes with only one of each of these costumes. While there might be genders associated with the costumes, they don't limit you and a character can play any role.
You are limited to specifically wearing the armor with the costume and wielding the weapon in the costume. If the costume does not list an armor, you can't wear armor. Same for weapons.
Weapons are not improvised weapons (unless otherwise noted).
Your other gear is allowed in general as most things can be explained within the context of costumes. If there is a question, please ask.
If there are any abilities you have questions about, please ask.
You can't cast spells while in costume (although there are many costumes that will allow this). You can cast spells prior to your entrance on stage (regardless of your costume).
If there is a pair of people going after the same costume, the aasimar attendants will decide who can wear the outfit.
[ooc]I plan to start the performance Monday (little less than three days for me), but will start it sooner if people are able to dress faster. If by that point the aasimar attendants will choose costumes for anyone who hasn't decided yet.
Leading Male (Sheng) Roles
. General: The General wears a long beard and fights with a wooden sword (1d8 nonlethal) and armor (as splint mail)
. Monkey King: The Monkey King wears an elaborate monkey mask. The Monkey King is portrayed as an acrobat and a trickster and is permitted to cast spells.
Leading Females (Dan) Roles
. Warrior Woman: The Warrior Woman wears full armor (as splint mail) and peacock feathers, and fights with a dulled, bladed polearm (1d8 nonlethal).
. Wizened Crone: The Wizened Crone wears long robes and walks with a cane. She is permitted to cast spells.
Painted Faces (Jing) Roles (Represents a strong and forceful male)
. Noble Warrior: Nobel Warrior wears red face paint and full armor (as splint mail) and wields a large club (1d10 nonlethal)
. Cruel Bandit: The Cruel Bandit wears blue face paint and wields a long wooden knife (1d4 nonlethal). The knife is specifically balanced to allow capable individuals to deal nonlethal sneak attacks with it.
Clowns (Chou) (These are humorous characters that are allowed to speak with the audience in order to make jokes at their opponents expense)
There are two clown costumes.
Male Chou have painted wide white circles around their eyes.
Female Chou have their faces painted red with black circles around their eyes.
Choue are permitted to cast spells. The costume does not include weapons, but you can carry and wield a broom or stick (improvised weapon dealing 1d6 nonlethal) and you may claim it to be any weapon you desire for the purpose of performance and comedic value.

Catching up on the action from the last fight - sorry again for the posting delay and many thanks to Tooth for repositioning me out of that precarious situation!
Undy Fort vs poison: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (3) + 11 = 14
Use Plague Rat Belt to reroll a save vs Poison
Undy Fort vs poison: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (16) + 11 = 27
Undy also uses his wand of infernal healing to heal his wounds 5 charges to heal 50 dmg and offers it to any of his comrades in need of healing.
Knowledge (Local) DC 18 on coin: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (5) + 13 = 18
Riddy Knowledge (Local) DC 18 on coin: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (2) + 8 = 10
Undy feels confident that this coin has a connection to the Aspis Consortium, "though it's not a badge of authority. Those are typically bronze, silver, or gold."
...
Before we reach the opera: a) have we had a night's rest (i.e. reset spells etc.)? b) can Undy buy a couple of vials of Clear Ear and a couple of vials of Alchemist's Fire at an alchemical shop along the way?

![]() |

As the group sorts through the costumes, Undy turns to his comrades. "If we want to be sure that none of our blood is spilled, I can cast Communal Stoneskin upon us all." He grins. "It might be a bit of an unfair advantage but then I don't think these Aspis are too interested in playing fair anyway..."
Anyone who would like it cast upon them will need to provide 250 gp worth of diamond dust (each). Undy will cast it upon himself and Riddy, as well as anyone else who wants to be included, with a duration of 100 minutes divided among the number of recipients.
Undy and Riddy examine the costumes and Riddy pipes up: "Where is my costume? I suppose I could ride along with you if you are the Crone. Or one of the Clowns."
Undy's preferences are any of the costumes that permit spellcasting: either Chou (clown), Wizened Crone, Monkey King, in that order of preference.
GM, can Riddy (tiny faerie dragon) participate? It will change my tactics considerably if not. Also, Undy typically wears a Mask of Conflicting Energies - can he still wear it or does it interfere with the costume?
Before the group trods onto the stage Undy makes some additional preparations, first casting Heightened Awareness from his wand and also casting Life Bubble on the entire group. If he was able to procure some more on the way to the opera he also pours a vial of Clear Ear into his ears, leaving a trail of green goop dripping down his cheeks, quite suitable for a clown, really! He casts Overland Flight on himself and both himself and Riddy cast Mage Armor from a wand. Lastly, he holds his wand of intensified metamagic in hand, using it as a prop.
Almost as an afterthought, Undy also casts False Life upon himself.
Temp hp: 1d10 + 10 ⇒ (2) + 10 = 12

![]() |

GM: So the cruel bandit cannot wear armor, cannot cast spells but could use a bow, right? If yes I’ll take that role.

![]() |

I guess I'll be a female clown ..... err Chou Katrina ponders. She then grins at one of the aasimars Don't suppose I could be a mermaid chou on a rock huh? I can even provide the costume

![]() |

"What about him?" Tooth points to his giant mantis companion. "Got outfit for Claw?"
I'm expecting 'no', but you never know how encounters like this handle companion critters :)

![]() |

Tooth grumbles as he considers all of the poor options. He casts several spells.
Casting Resinous Skin (DR5/piercing), Lead Blades, Barkskin, Mirror Image, Fickle Winds (extended - covers everyone except Claw), Echolocation (blindsight 40'), Sense Vitals (extended), mage armour (wand via Undy or another PC, on self if not armoured and on Claw), and Summon Monster IV to call a salt mephit.
Sense Vitals and Summon Monster IV are the last two spells cast before the curtain goes up (everything else lasts at least 10 minutes).

GM Blazej |

The aasimars quickly get to getting everyone into their respective costumes.
They look to Katrina and one of them answers, "That would be interesting, but this particular play doesn't have mermaids. There is the 'Dance of the Unseen Waves' next month, but that isn't the sort of costumes we have here now."
Another looked towards Claw and suggested, "I could dress him as a loyal mount or maybe companion. Let me see if I have some matching saddlebags I could dress him in."

GM Blazej |

As you step out on stage with the full encouragement of the aasimar's costumers you see another team of Aspis mercenaries on the other side. They carry no sigil but they step back a bit as you walk on to stage.
Kiang Zhen watches with a smile as both teams take position on the stage all dressed in perfect stage attire.
The fighter (Pink) is dressed as a Warrior woman. She paces aggressively on her side of the stage taking moments to take test swings with the polearm. At a point the peacock feathers get in the way of her swing. After a stumbles she seems to consider ripping the peacock feathers off.
The sorcerer (Red) is dressed as the monkey king and despite the stumble as the Pathfinders stepped on stage, he seems to be already trying to act in character as he prances around the stage striking various combat poses. The party can't see his face, but can sense his frustration as he looks at the Pathfinder team. He gestures toward Kiang Zhen and calls out, "what is this. I swear half their team is already covered in enough magic to fill a spellbook. I thought we were coming on stage as we were!"
Despite the objections the Kiang Zhen waves off complaints clearly not giving any care for the Aspis aligned sorcerer's objections. Kiang is clearly fine allowing the party to be fully outfitted with the magical spells they have.
The rogue (Black) on their end is dressed as the cruel bandit. He is in full face paint and is casually taking measure of the weight of the wooden knife by tossing it end over end. [b]"Quit your whining. All the magic they have will just make every hit feel so much sweeter." He mimes a lick of the wooden blade as he starts given a glare at the party on the hunt for a weak link in the Pathfinder group.
The cleric (Blue) looks familiar, another of the pair of priests from the tavern brawl at the start of this set of challenges. He is without his weapon or armor and is instead dressed as a clown with a long stick as his only armament, his gray-green now painted with a pair of wide white circles around his eyes. "I had not cast magic because I thought using Gorum's bolstering magic is meant for battle, not for for plays. You will save your magic for greater challenges."
The sorcerer continues ignoring the others on his team. [b]"You have to establish the scene! How is this even work as a play if you don't establish why there are half a dozen tengu all with skin-like bark? This would just confuse the audience!"
The Kiang Zhen, the judge of the even, continues to ignore the sorcerer's complaints with the rest of the Aspis team.
The final member is one of the Tian samurai (Green) you noticed the first day in the tavern. His is less imposing than he was in his full armor and metal weapon, but he still presents as a strong stoic warrior dressed as the General. He draws his wooden weapon to ready as soon as the Pathfinders step on stage. He speaks to the Aspis mercenaries to say, "I owe you a great debt. Magic or no, I shall prove myself, my strength, and my honor."
After giving a moment for the groups to position, Kiang Zhen begins the challenge. "The curtain rises! The play begins!"
Almaas: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (6) + 9 = 15
Tooth: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9
Undy: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (19) + 4 = 23 +4 if Heightened Awareness

Meylara: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (14) + 6 = 20 +2 in surprise round
Aspis Team: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (8) + 0 = 8

GM Blazej |

I'm making this post separate to be very clear. This is a non-lethal event with no bloodshed and any show of lethal force will mean immediate disqualification. I will expect other party members to step in and speak up if a teammate looks like they are going to cross this line.

Meylara smiles as she hears the complaints of the Aspis. Only the law of Tooth and Claw will prevail. You are victors, or you are food. With that she circles around to the back of the group and strikes at Red. Not using acrobatics to avoid AoO. If they can attack while flat-footed, they may.

Then the spray of glittery dust covers the other team and blinded both the Warrior Woman, General, and White-Eyed Clown.
Tooth lunges at the Cruel Bandit and each of the blows connect one after another. Despite that the rogue is able to uncannily dodge out of the way of the worst of the blows and Tooth isn't able to connect with any of the vitals. Even still every attack in combination is able to bring down the Cruel Bandit.

The wooden blade sticks to Tooth after the first blow and the defiant warrior delivers does his best to still deliver the rest of the attacks without the weapon.
Good question. Spell-like abilities are not permissible from non-spellcasting roles this event.

Riddy tries the same trick on the pensive Samurai general, squeaking telepathically at him, "In the name of the master, why are you fighting with these villains? The Aspis are unworthy of a noble warrior such as yourself! If my words are true, let the master signal it by causing your feet to slip out from under you!" and then causing the ground under his feet to suddenly become very slippery. Since his eyes are shut he would be unable to see the tiny faerie dragon's spell casting :-)

DC 14 Reflex to not fall for both Green and Pink. Grease square marked on map in white.

Katrina is able to bound across the stage with extrodinary grace while Meylara is able to land a pair of solid blow against the Monkey King that severely break his prancing posture as he winces in pain.
Almaas is able to offer some protection against the samurai's blows as well.
Undy is able to knock the enemy clown off his feat straight to the floor and ruin some of his makeup that now drips down his face.

The Warrior Woman is able to keep her balance under the shifting ground and yells at the Riddy, "Get down here you flying lizard and I'll rip off your wings!" Overall her demeanor is not much better nor worse than it was moments ago.
However the General slips on the ground and slams on his back, the costume armor creating a racket as it clatters to the ground. His face shows momentary confusion and then descends in to abject rage. He slams the ground with a strike that damages both the floor and costume armor.
The samurai glares up and calls out into the air bellowing in the Tien common tongue.

The samurai seems to disregard Tooth completely as he tries to right himself on the ground.
Tooth and his summoned do a devastating series of blows through the costume armor, battering the Warrior Woman. She is heavily bruised by the blows but her desire for bloodshed is enough to keep her standing for a while yet.
Claw is only barely able to land one of his natural attacks against the prone Cruel Bandit and it isn't enough to knock them out again.
The samurai stands back up amid the grease and yells back at the Monkey King, "Give me flight!"
The Monkey King poses around the stage as he tries to avoid Meylara's blows and only with a bit of pain responds, "The Monkey King will consider your plea, but-"
"Flight! Now! The samurai cuts this off with a clear threat that takes the sorcerer aback for a moment. The sorcerer nods as they slowly return back to their performance.

While still on the ground the Cruel Bandit isn't putting up much of a performance as he sweeps wildly to remove some of Tooth's lingering images.
The Clown shakes the water off himself as he stands back up. "For a moment, the magic imbued warriors looked the glory of their opponents and their attacks hesitated." Despite him now flipping the stick in his hand like a poor juggling act, the cleric unleashes an aura of divine power that demands some amount of awe.
Everyone one of the enemies are now under the effects of sanctuary. In order to attack or target them you will need to make a DC 17 Will save or lose that attempted attack and be unable to attack that person for the duration of the effect. If you save, you can attack that target freely, but will need to make the same save against others if you later attack them.
The Monkey King doesn't do as much performance as he follows the samurai's demand for flight.
At this point Meylara will had opportunities to take AoOs on two other people. If she had taken one, the sorcerer will just cast fly, otherwise he will make a concentration check to cast defensively.
Several AoOs were provoked in the process of this turn, they are:
Samurai provokes from Meylara and Tooth for standing
Fighter provokes from Mephit for unarmed attack
Cleric provokes from Meylara for standing (Will Save because sanctuary)

The party's turn is up!
I am making the assumption that the silence will be finished casting at the end or near the end of the party's collective turn.
All enemies have sanctuary, DC 17 Will save to negate for yourself for a single target. This is made when attempting the attack.
