I’ve been really happy with everyone’s writing but less happy with my own posting. I feel like I’m having trouble getting the pace right and making sure you guys have hooks to react to. This is just to do with my workload as I mentioned.
I’m thinking of asking you guys if I can take a little break here. There is an important hindu festival starting up right now. I’d like to go volunteer at my temple. I haven’t maybe mentioned it before but that’s something I’m involved in, I go to India every year and it’s a big part of my life . The festival goes til the 16th. I’ll be fasting and meditating and all. I think it might makes sense for me to take a break and when I come back maybe we kinda cut to a meetup where the temple runs an ad for adventurers to respond to the letter from the old priest. Then we can get to some adventuring.
What do you all think?

Take the time you need! That sounds pretty rad.
It's cool; we'll meet in that tavern soon enough. :)
Vexlygo |
Break makes sense, enjoying the storytelling immensely gang :) Pacing is working fine from my vantage DMG.
DMG |
Ok maybe just because my stress level was high I was imaging my pacing was not good for you all.
On the other hand I will say what is working very well is the player supplied NPC's.
But I feel something is missing when we are playing through the prologue and we have to artificially steer things towards the eventual meet-up.
I prefer not knowing what comes next.

Since the PbP medium is a naturally slow one, when the posting pace is slower than at least 1/day, you will always have several issues (in my opinion) - it will be hard to ‘feel’ the flow and thread of the game, it will be hard to do any sort of intro because it will take too long, you will lose player attention and GM focus as everyone tends to slow down their posting (even those that can post daily), etc.
I believe this is what’s happening here. All good on my end if you would rather take a break DMG.
Melira Lightfoot |
Happy to take a break. Sorry I didn't post last week, I should've logged on to let you know what was up.
I am enjoying things so far, I feel a sense of momentum and story being built, even though I also wouldn't mind if things were going faster. Fast forwarding sounds good here, it seems like we're at a fairly natural break point. I think I gained a lot in terms of establishing my character's voice, motivation, and relationship with Bez.
I'm happy with how things are going so far.
Beziriphas |
It doesn't feel artificial to me. :)
Beziriphas |
Melira, maybe we can rp out the journey a bit? Bez has to take off his makeup and reveal he's a tiefling, and we can discuss what our motivations are and what happens to your buddy Saenwhatsisname :)
Melira Lightfoot |
Ok by me. Where do you want to start? From where we left off or further on? I'd prefer to start further on, let's say when you take off your disguise?
No idea what happened to Saen. Maybe he just ran away after getting saved. Maybe he followed us after Rhen, but didn't say anything.
Beziriphas |
sounds good.
DMG |
I love that you guys are keeping the RP going . Really great.
I think I bungled explaining something though.
Am I right in understanding you two have headed out on the road?
I mean that makes perfect sense it’s just the course I had plotted out was, Faidh and Akkramar arrive at the temple at Endhome, deliver the letter. Temple runs an ad (with the town crier or something) for an entourage to travel to Grimmsgate. Melira and Bez take up the call because it’s in the same territory as Remballo and it’s safer to travel in numbers.
If you two have decided to hit the road as a duo though, I can roll with it. Improvising is cool with me.
DMG |
So what do you folks think?
I am fine with Bez and Melira being on the road already, and I will start describing Grollek's Grove if interested. That will mean the group remains seperated, but I am not afraid to run with that. I like being surprised and having to roll with it.
On the other hand if you prefer to have the group get united in Endhome before leaving, the RP posts from Bez n Melira read just as well as a conversation taking place about the road ahead over a drink back at the half-orc's tea shop.
Let me know whatcha think.
Vexlygo |
From the sidelines I'm fine to when Vex enters the fray.
@DMG: Without loading you further, once the road ahead is decided we can look at some "Meanwhile in Remballo..." scenes so I can get my eye in on Vex's voice so to speak :)
Happy to do them via PM to preserve the secrecy!

Well shoot, I was just headed straight to Remballo. And honestly, Vex will need a good in-game reason to deviate from his heading towards his brother.
However, if you wanna retcon that and have Akkramar and Faidh run into us as we're headed out of town, that also works. Or meet in Grollek's Grove? I dunno! :D
Melira Lightfoot |
I kinda think it doesn't make sense for Melira to have waited around in Endhome any longer than necessary. She knows she has to hurry, and that there are people after her. I would prefer to keep things as is if possible, but I'm fine with a retcon too if you think it's important.
As far as how to unite us, I'm not sure. Faidh and Ak are trying to get to a temple in Endhome to figure out what to do next, right? Maybe if they knew about the Harbinger etc they might turn around before getting there to join up with Bez and Melira, but it's not like Melira and Bez are walking around broadcasting their findings. I'll trust DMG to handle this all.
Also, Bez, are we assuming that we've talked and decided we think Vex is the harbinger who Rhen described?
Melira Lightfoot |
Couple other things I wanted to add to my IC post but out of time. Also good to avoid overly lengthy posts in RP methinks for better back and forth etc.

Hey old friend its never a load! Sounds great.

Certainly Bez (and Vex) look like the description of the Harbinger, so I'm sure it's come up.
Vexlygo |
Just to whet everyone's whistle I was inspired by Bez's Heroforge depiction... so here's a sneaky peak at the malcontent that is Vex...

A face only a brother could love. :D
Beziriphas |
Bit of a flex-time thing going on as it would be nearly a fortnight for Bez and Melira to reach Grollek's Grove, by which time Faidh and Akkramar would be getting in to Endhome. So the two separate scenes are not occurring on the same day at this point. Ill keep track loosely.
Maybe we had a free Transport via Plants druid buddy? :D
Beziriphas |
Just let us know which way we should advance, DMG!
Beziriphas |
See what melira says about grolleks grove. Any investigating, shopping etc? Or onward to Remballo.
I'm ok with whatever DM Handwavium you'd like to declare so that the two parts of the party are closer together. A letter, a vision, etc! :)
...But Bez moves inexorably towards his brudder.
DMG |
Well keep in mind Bez, it would be strange to double back to the party now. Under these circumstances there won't really be any occasion for Bez n Melira to cross paths with Faidh n Akkramar for some time.
Faidh n Akkramar will be on a mission for the Temple of Muir in Endhome which takes them to Grimmsgate. With Bez n Melira having departed Endhome without signing on with the temple for that mission. So there will have to be a different occasion later to throw their lot in with the others and form a party as it were.
Easy enough, they have some common goals. But the distance between them geographically is increasing not decreasing for now.
But yeah like I say this is no problem with me. I enjoyed the surprise of seeing you guys peel off away from the preordained "tavern scene" scenario. The unpredictability is exciting for me.
It made me actually very curious to see what happens next.
I'll bot Melira if she doesn't post today.
I'll do a little mark-up of the map in gimp as well to highlight the locations so it's easier than zooming in on the online map.
Melira Lightfoot |
Hey sorry, not sure what's going on in gameplay thread but if you haven't botted me yet I'm gonna post soon. Sorry for irregular posting overall, I will try to structure my habits better.
I'll be busy three/four days from now, not sure if I'll post on those days.
Akkramar |
People, just to let you all know I am traveling from tonight until Saturday for a small vacation. Should have access to wifi and whatnot, but probably not much time to post. So if you need to press on, feel free to bot me.
Beziriphas |
Sure. Sorry, been very busy with the 'Ween and the Muertos.
