Roll once, take half if less than half. So on a d8 for instance 2 would become 4, but 6 would stay 6.

Actually changing the damage type no (there's mechanics for that), but you can flavor it as lightning or however you choose.

Hi again. Mal has an issue. He doesn't have material components for his new spells. He needs a copper wire for Message, fleece for Minor Illusion, and sand for Sleep.
A Spell Component Pouch costs 25 gp, which was too expensive for character creation.
A Spell Focus (crystal) costs 10 gp, which would have taken all his cash.
Or he could find the stuff laying around on the ground (sand), on someone's clothes (fleece), off an object (wire), and just hand-wave.
What do you prefer?

Scavenge until you can buy one, component pouch isn't super rare in Baldur's Gate shops. You guys have 40.75 each at the moment if everything there is sold (someone might want to yank the pearl out of the ring for identify though).
Also the studded isn't small, so you'd need it altered by a leatherworker.

Transmuted Spell
When you cast a spell that deals a type of damage from the following list, you can spend 1 sorcery point to change that damage type to one of the other listed types: acid, cold, fire, lightning, poison, thunder.
Mal, yes, Fane was just one of Tarina's 'regulars' playing Bones upstairs. In that group of 6, which probably came downstairs to see everything done, there are 2 spellcasters: a halfling and a human. The halfling carries a component pouch, and the human a rod.
You also heard a rumor of a reclusive sahuagin priestess upstairs, but haven't seen what they use.

Tib, if you really want a lightning version of burning hands, I'd be ok with making that a discovery we RP in game. I kind of like this 3-stage approach:
"discovery" - Something happens and the new spell is cast essentially by accident. Money and time is spent trying to recreate the effect, but more often a wild surge occurs. This stage would just be a writeup by you, taking place in between other stuff sort of 'offscreen'.
"stable" - the spell is practiced to the point where it can be used just like other spells, but there is still a small chance of surge. In other words you would really be using it in combat but it would be unreliable.
"practiced" - final version, no surge chance
For a 1st level spell, lets say it would take a levels worth of time and 50 gp.

That's one of my biggest frustrations about the current state of ISPs. There are so few that even if you don't like your current one, there's no guarantee that the other one will be better.
I can't understand why internet providers can't be as numerous as cell providers.

Just a note for consideration: taking the new goon loot into account, with all sold each persons share is 59.9 gold. If you keep the non-consumable pearl for the identify spell, then each person's share would be 43.2.

i think we should keep the pearl and its ring to be consistent in party loot. Then it makes Identify a 1st level scroll cost, if we don’t have a caster who can prepare or ritual it. Pearls and armor are the first mundane investments of a party.

That is one thing that irks me about sorcerers, we can't do rituals for... some reason? To be honest, I think a sorcerer should get a spell known per level, we already lose out on rituals and several "wizard only" spells, but even the bard knows more spells than a sorcerer does!... but I'm just a grumpy dragon.

Yeah 5e Sorcerers could have taken a page from pathfinder 1e on this.

I don't often play intelligent and wise characters but it's fun when I do... I sometimes have to hobble myself when not playing decent intelligence outside characters area of expertise .

Powerful arguments for Mal to scout?
Is it bad that the player may agree with you; however, the character would not volunteer until he hears powerfully motivational arguments to go scout. Frankly, he just met the team. And he has zero experience putting himself in harm’s way.
