The two women surprise the ruffians with their vitriol and display of weaponry, making them falter in their approach just momentarily. The eye-slits in Kromm's mask seem to flare up for a brief moment as he steps out of the Royal Concessions. He walks briskly toward the nearest ruffian, then with a swift motion draws his falchion and attempts to pummel the man with the blade's wide, flat surface.

Aldonza steps into the alley with Kromm, and looks around at the ruffians.
”Ladies and gentlemen, and children of all flavors! I present to you, for your viewing pleasure...”

Kromm strides out and smacks the ruffian's shoulder hard, making the man grunt in pain, "Now you gonna get it!" The ruffian doesn't stand on ceremony and pulling out his club, he puts his whole body weight in a blow at the armoured man. The blow dazing the fighter as the ruffian pulls him off balance as he regains his balance after the blow. Snagging Strike 1d20 ⇒ 19 Crit damage 1d6 + 5 ⇒ (6) + 5 = 11 = 22HPs and flatfooted Unable to stop the momentum of the club quick enough the ruffian's second blow doesn't find it's mark and misses Kromm's head. Seeing the armoured man off balance, the second ruffian looks to take advantage, taking his club he advances and strikes Kromm in the stomach Strike 1 1d20 ⇒ 6 damage 1d6 + 5 + 1d6 ⇒ (1) + 5 + (2) = 8 with great accuracy that drops the fighter to the ground.
The ruffian coming down the other alley, approaches with trepidation and weapon drawn. "Takes more than words...." Erryn standing out in the alley, is an easy target, even if the cleric has a terrifying visage. Tao opens two channels.
The first into the positive energy plane, stepping astrally from her body to reach out and touch Kromm, her own silvery cord a mess of colorful scarves, establishing a secondary nexus via contact with his soul, "catching" him before drifting off to his next realm!
Kromm recovers 2d8 + 16 ⇒ (6, 3) + 16 = 25 hit points!
The second into the temporal dimension, shunting her consciousness backwards through the collective history of her people, while physically now, reaching out to touch the poor ruffian standing just before her, "inviting" him unto a journey his senses are perhaps grossly unaccustomed to, and probably aggravating and overwhelming him!

Tao's eyes clouden again, having opened herself up to multiple planar energies and powers, as she surrenders to the sheer divine, sharing her vessel more completely now with the spirits that haunt her, now wont to do more than just tussle her wavy clothes.
But which Ancestral Influence? 1d4 ⇒ 2 > "Skillful"
Boastful musicians, tricksy fortune tellers, elegant dancers, daring acrobats, skilled herbalists... all these voices and more begin chattering into her mind, and Tao now finds it difficult to concentrate on both fighting as well as spellcasting, struggling to hear her own thoughts over the incessant din!
Tao is free to use Cast a Spell and Strike actions next round - but must pass a DC 4 flat check or lose the action!

Aldonza’s smile freezes into a rictus, as she glares at the thug Kromm attacked. ”Playing for keeps, are we?”, she asks evenly. ”Good!”

After a couple of ringing blows, Kromm finds himself lying under the warm Qadiran sunset. The life quickly returning to his old bones thanks to Tao's healing spell, he grabs his falchion and rises back to his feet, swinging it at the ruffian in front with lethal intent.

As Tao hears Kromms, demise, she moves through the planes to bring healing to the tough little dwarf. The ruffian attacking Tao is suddenly assaulted by visions of many spirits wearing brightly coloured clothes, bearing down on him, swords and daggers glinting in the sun, he shivers but resists the urge to run. Will Save 1d20 ⇒ 6 With his free hand, he holds his head as the ancestors cut and stab him, though he shows no signs of harm.
Meanwhile Hobbs does his best to help in the fight, sending three pulses of energy through the air, that sound with a boom as each smacks into the ruffian in front of Tao.
Aldonza wanting to help and protect the now dazed Kromm, attacks with her rapier like sword cane, that pierces the thug's side, drawing blood, but it doesn't stop the thug dancing out of the way of her second strike.
Kromm, his head spinning spies his battleaxe, picking it up he follows his instinct and rises up, but the movement catches the eyes of both ruffians, who seize on the opening and strike. The first wishing to see the dwarf fall, strikes hard Reaction AoO 1d20 ⇒ 9 damage 1d6 + 5 ⇒ (5) + 5 = 10 As Kromm seems to double at the strike, the second club comes in Reaction AoO 1d20 ⇒ 11 damage 1d6 + 5 ⇒ (6) + 5 = 11 The dwarf still stands intent on revenge, smacking his assailant with his axe.
Laughing at the dwarf's predicament and seeing him on his last legs, the ruffians decide to find out what the Elf with the stick is doing, trying to stick them. The first is so confident he doesn't concentrate and Aldonza watches as the clubs swings aimlessly by her shoulder. Snagging Strike 1d20 ⇒ 4 The club continues on, as the momentum takes it once more in Aldonza's direction Snagging Strike 1d20 - 5 ⇒ (1) - 5 = -4 However the ruffian almost overbalances and the club maintains it's arc and swings round at Kromm, Snagging Strike 1d20 - 10 ⇒ (3) - 10 = -7
As his compatriot ruffian is putting Aldonza into a dancing frenzy, the next ruffian aims to clout the woman and put paid to her evasive tactics. Snagging Strike 1d20 ⇒ 16 damage 1d6 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8 and Flatfooted. Seeing his success, he brings the club round at Aldonza again. Strike 1d20 - 5 ⇒ (6) - 5 = 1 but misses and uses its momentum to try and crush the dwarf, Strike 1d20 - 10 ⇒ (7) - 10 = -3 however the momentum is weak and the club just bounces off the dwarf's chest.
Seeing the woman recover herself, the ruffian (blue) approaches Erryn with his club held high, "Don't think you be so lucky this time.". Bringing his club down, Snagging Strike 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (3) - 1 = 2 the cleric, easily dodges to the side. Enraged the man tries for a second time. Snagging Strike 1d20 - 5 - 1 ⇒ (19) - 5 - 1 = 13 damage 1d6 + 5 ⇒ (6) + 5 = 11
The last ruffian, assaulted by the spirits turns and snarls at Tao, "You're gonna suffer, I don't like the games you play." He begins to club at Tao, Snagging Strike 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (15) - 1 = 14 damage 1d6 + 5 ⇒ (6) + 5 = 11, Strike 1d20 - 1 - 5 ⇒ (2) - 1 - 5 = -4 , Strike 1d20 - 1 - 10 ⇒ (9) - 1 - 10 = -2 Hitting Tao in the stomach with his first strike, but unable to take advantage of her doubled position as his other blows hit the side of the building.

Unable to think straight with music playing in her head, and yes, games (!), with dancing and frivolity, and is that someone smoking? - all her Ancestors make it impossible to focus on her allies and their assailants - and yet she actively defies them!

As Erryn's connection to the infernal realms manifests as a ball of flame that burst around the ruffian fighting Tao, who dodges the most of the inferno.
Hobbs sends another round of force missiles at his foe, they thump into his chest, breaking ribs and causing all sorts of pain.
Tao taunting the ruffians, sends her scarf in a deadly arc that first digs deep into the ruffian in front of her, covering her with his blood as he falls. The scarf continues on his trajectory, sweeping across the throat of the second ruffian, who instinctively puts his hand to his throat in an attempt to stop the flow. There is nothing the man can do, as his life's blood streams from his severed artery, he falls to the floor with a horrible gurgling noise.

Tao embarks on her third spiritual trip this fight - this time into the ethereal plane! - where souls transit to the next destination in the Outer Sphere! She meets there the two men she has slain and humbles herself. "My heart is in pain that we couldn't find a peaceful resolution" and falling to her knees here, she weeps for them.
If they be willing, again the relative passage of time dilates just a little, and joined by her other ancestors (some the first man has already met!), she invites them into a celebration of their life, where they can dance about like children around a bonfire, eat nuts and berries scavenged from a nearby wood, and listen to music on strange instruments. Tao herself plays a pan flute, leading the tone of the melodies, which transition from jaunty little jigs to sorrowful ballads and back, as all of her people - relatives of distant past keeping their traditions oral, performative, spiritual - flow around the two strangers here, and joining them here as "family" for these fleeting moments between the Material plane, and whatever is next for them...
...After this brief pause, Tao's eyes unclouden once more, and first feeling Erryn's divine energy, before looking into her eyes, she says "I think I found reconciliation" whirling her scarves skillfully back around to a resting position, sticking the landing from her last leap.
Tao gains +6 temporary hit points!
Morosino stirs from his hiding spot inside the store, his hands covering his face, except for a single eye peeking out from between parted fingers. He knows Tao is keeping track of him, even if she doesn't look, but he wanted to catch just a glimpse of the action, before quickly dipping back into the little nook he found that conceals his tiny person.
Tao's Oracular Curse "worsens" here to Moderate - increasing the DC of future "Defiance" flat checks to DC 6, but also boosting any Slotted Spells she casts that deal or heal damage by that Slot's Level (so, +1 or +2)!

Stepping over the thug's corpse, Erryn briefly places a hand on Tao's shoulder. "It was necessary. Come now, the others still need our help." As she says this, she looks down the alleyway to where Kromm and Aldonza are barely holding the line.

Sorry for my brief disappearing act; had a medical emergency, had to get an operation done, but now I'm back from the hospital and feeling well. By the way, Kromm is definitely a large human wielding a large curved sword... but I guess his profile picture can be a little misleading ;)
Nearly collapsing again from the attacks of the street thugs, Kromm steels himself and wipes a splatter of blood from his mouth.
"Listen here, thug," he slurs. "I'm not going to give my life for a random genealogist in Katheer... but your life, to me, is a bit more expendable."
The masked man roars as he swings his falchion in a large arc, attempting to chop down both of the men who stand before him, starting with the one closer to him.

Kromm, Glad the operation went well and you are feeling better.
Aldonza swings and swishes her blade with abandon, missing the man in front of her with each strike.
Being so injured, the big human Kromm's cheeks blow, his face turns red and he slurs words at both men. His heavy sword comes down in an arc, cutting deeply into the already injured human. The man shrieks in pain, turns and runs from the battle. "My life ain't expendable for that!" he cries from the distance. Kromm revelling in his victory, looses lets his sword slip in his grasp, missing the second man completely.
His companion, uninjured, tries one last time to get rid of the threat and take down the dangerous man. Distracted by the dancing elf the ruffian is off balance and sends his club in a wild sweeping arc through the air. She then sets about applying bandages, poultices, and such to their injuries before moving on to herself and Tao.

”It wasn’t us that did it”, Aldonza replies, somewhat abashed. She wipes off her sword, and sheathes it with a snap. Then she obediently sits down, and waits to be treated, wincing as Erryn cleans her up.

"Most of it my fault," Kromm says as he lets Erryn tend to his various bruises and broken bones. "Can't expect to get far, couple of thugs bringing me down."
The increased verbosity from the normally laconic man seems to wind down as the spirit of battle fades away. He remains silent throughout most of the cleric's treatment, cleaning his blade and checking it for damage before putting it away.
"You're welcome," he finally offers to Onlau when it becomes clear the thugs aren't coming back with reinforcements. "Now, Prince Agar?"

Onlau, the scribe of genealogy is shaking in his blue sandals, sending quivers through his silken white kimono, with sapphire blue edgings. "Oh me! What! Did you ... I mean such violence ... are they .. Oh my!!" He turns one way then the other, not quite sure which way to turn. "I should fetch the guard ... Yes, I mean they did threaten!! But you ... Oh my!!" His head moves from side to side, eyes wide open, his short waxed black hair stays in place despite the quick movement of his head. He dithers, his hands come up to cover his eyes, hoping that not seeing any more will make it go away.

Ordinarily an invisible distraction, spiritual wisps swirl around Tao as she relinquishes control unto them, her fury about to reach a fever pitch, when suddenly the ruffians runoff, and she crashes to the ground, distraught, sorrowful, overwhelmed.
Morosino comes out from hiding and puts his hand on her back as she lay motionless and quiet a few moments, struggling to "come down" from the rush. He doesn't speak, knowing well enough that a few moments of peace is all she needs to make her recovery.
Refocus 10 minutes - during this time her wounds seal themselves by resonant power of her Pearly White Spindle Aeon Stone
And those moments pass, and Tao rises, whipping her blades suchly to fling the blood upon them into the street and leaving them clean, wrapping them across her body here. She looks at Erryn and joins her in tending to the wounded...
Lay on Hands for 12 hit points per subsequent Refocus
"Here you go Dearly" to Erryn first while she struggles to treat Aldonza - altogether cutting the time to treat the whole party right in half.

Despite the levity of her words, Tao bears the full weight of the stares in her whole person - murdering the two thieves was indeed an overreaction, and one with permanent consequences. She awaits the judgement of the scribe, the merchant, the guard, whoever comes for her, remorseful and repetent, and emotionally spent, having shed her tears ehtereally, now dry, and strangely calm, and quiet.
Morosino stands by her, his posture defensive.

Ah, in that case the total time to heal everyone is 30 minutes, rather than 70. Thanks, Tao!
"It happens to the best of us," Erryn says to Kromm, offering up a rare smile. The cleric gives Tao a grateful look before continuing to work on Aldonza's injuries.
"Do try to calm yourself," Erryn says to Onlau, trying to keep her own annoyance in check. "I'd have preferred no one die today, but they came here looking for trouble and found it. We tried to warn them off, but that didn't stop them from trying to bash my skull in."

While everyone is being patched up Hobbs does his best to calm Onlau.
"Now now Onlau, everything is fine now. Fortunately we were here to prevent those criminals from stealing your property and possibly doing you harm. They seemed to know you. Do you recognize them? They seem to be acting in the interests of the Patari family."
He adjusts his spectacles once more.
"May we see the patents that they were intending to appropriate? Unless I miss my guess those documents will prove less than favorable for the Patari family. At any rate I do believe that the purchase of these patents has already been negotiated by Esmayl ibn Qarad and we, as his representatives, have been authorized to secure them."
He holds his hand out to Onlau, clearly expecting him to produce the documents.

With a goblin tending to Onlau's stress at the fight, the blood and the two bodies lying in the street, Hobbs is quickly able to quieten down the man and their sobs, jabberings and panic. Regaining their composure, Onlau once more maintains a professional presence and quickly retrieves the documents, presenting them to Hobbs. "Here, I believe this is what you were looking for. Never before has there been such behaviour on my doorstep. Here, let us hope this is the documentation you require."
The rest of the group spend some time healing themselves in the quiet streets, outside Royal Concessions.
With all four documents in hand, the pathfinders return to Venture-Captain Esmayl ibn Qatari’s estate as darkness falls, "You are a bit late, I hope all is well? Anything special to report?".
