Reeling from the flames, Damon held his ground and drew another javelin, cocking his arm back and loosing with a powerful throw, hoping to do his part to take down this dangerously insane spellcaster. After his throw, he moved partially into the nearby tunnel, hoping to get a little cover from the dwarf's magic but still be able to watch him around the corner.
Javelin Attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 5 = 6
Javelin Damage: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8
Unfortunately, his powerful windup caused the haft of the javelin to hit the cave wall behind him, jarring the weapon out of his hand before he even had the chance to throw it. Burned and embarrassed by his clumsiness, Damon attempted to at least get his shield and some of the cave wall between himself and the dwarf.

@Fabian, would it be possible to use the 'Entangle' spell on the drawf to grab him from the ground or to sprout from the wall?

@Fabian, would it be possible to use the 'Entangle' spell on the drawf to grab him from the ground or to sprout from the wall?
OOC: I would allow the spell but give the dwarf advantage on his saving throw given the 'reduced' amount of entangling vines/roots/plants.

What sorcery kept the dwarf on the stone wall, he knew not but he was going to have to kill the damned crazy coward. He threw his dagger at him...
1d20 + 4 ⇒ (11) + 4 = 15 for 1d4 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5, again he cursed as his aim was off a second time.

Horgus shook his head as he encouraged Anevia to take a shot. "C'mon girl, you can't be worse than the self-styled archer/scout we have in our group. Even with your bum leg."
He continued, "Demon-spawn. Probably missing on purpose. No one can be that bad."

Cast Entangle on the drawf in a attempt to restrain him
Stella began to channel power in her hand. Seeing the growing frustrations of her comrades unable to hit the drawf, nevermind calm or defeat him, she knew she had to do something before one of them got killed or worse: the madman would somehow trap them down here forever! Doing her best to ignore the lump of anxiety in her chest she kneeled down and placed her hand flat on the ground before beginning to quietly chant an incantation, a slight glow forming around her. Please Desna let this work! she thought to herself remembering the last few times she tried this magic with no success before yelling "Now Grow!" in her best attempt at a commanding voice, hoping to will her magic to work.
If it worked:
Luckily for Stella, this time her prayers were answered and a large mass of coiling vines grew from the wall and engulfed the drawf, restaining him in their grasp. "It worked!!" she shouted gleefully as she rose to her feet to stare up at him. "Now please stop and apologize to my friends or this will not end nicely for you
Intimidation if a roll is needed: 1d20 ⇒ 18
If it failed:
Sadly for Stella, though she managed to channel her power into the earth, she was only able to create a small mass of roots that the drawf was easily able to break free from. Cursing her ineptitude with magic, she punched the ground in frustration as her emotional state slowly becoming a swirling mass of anxiety and self loathing.

At Horgus' remark, Onyx flushed and he gripped his bow tightly, knuckles white.
Pulura's stars will guide me when we can once again see the sky. That's all that it is...
Trying to cover his growing anxiety he shot a crooked grin at Anevia "He's probably right! The sun was shining right in my eyes!"
Deception: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
The distress behind his smile wasn't difficult to see.
Seems about right

With the embarrassing flub of the javelin throw and the deadly nature of their opponent, Damon's fear started to get the better of him, and his sweat from the exertion of battle became tinged with the odor of...brimstone? In his mind, a dark, whispering voice softly chuckled...

Leaving the javelin where it fell, Damon charged over to where the brave Ulfen warrior had fallen, reaching down with his hand and touching the dying man with the power of Iomedae (Use 1 hp from lay on hands pool).
"Get down here and surrender or I'll pin you to the wall!" exclaimed Damon as he straightened up from Hallvardr, putting his body and shield between the crazy dwarf and the fallen warrior and drawing another javelin.

Apologies for missing the last round, was a really busy saturday and sunday....
Kokam smiles a thank you Stella the Druid's healing balm flows over her, easing the pain from her head completely. The smell of burnt hair however, still lingered.
She watches in dismay as the dwarf continues to sling magic here and there...flame at Damon, something green and deadly at Stormbrow, bringing the big Ulfen to his knees.
Scowling with frustration at the dwarf high up on the wall, Kokam does what she can, flinging a dart at the double-talking sorcerer...

Produce Flame at the dwarf & utilize Lucky Roll should first attempt miss
Drained of most of her magic & still frustrated at her lack of ability, Stella was slow to react when the Stormbrow was hit by the dwarf and knocked into an unconscious and near death state. Before she could even react, she saw Damon rush to his side to defend his defenseless body while Kokam and Oynx kept up the assault on the mad dwarf. Maybe I wasn't meant to... she began before she felt a warm glow on her shoulder as if the Goddess had placed her hand their reassuringly, urging her to continue. Her crisis of faith gone, she stood up once more and again attempted to hit her opponent hoping to help defeat him once and for all.

Damon surged forward as the dwarf fell, ready to accept the crazy sorcerer’s surrender or strike if he tried to cast again, but he quickly realized the creature had died from the fall. Looking at his companions, he noted their injuries and said, ”The dual-minded sorcerer is dead, but not without hurting us badly. I think we need a rest.”
Searching the body, Damon offered the items he found for those who could use them. Helping Hallvardr to his feet, he supported the heavily-injured man and helped him get to the bed so he could have somewhere comfortable to sit. ”Stella, can you help him?” asked the concerned Paladin.
| Stella Destino |
Action #1
I can take the items if nobody else wants them
"I unfortunately used most of my magic against the dwarf but I do have half the Goodberries left I can share with the everyone," Stella replied before she grabbed them from her satchel and offered them to anyone interested. Seeing Damon with the potion, "Is that a healing potion? That should help the Stormbrow so that we can get out of this hell-hole as fast as possible." she adds hoping that they don't decide to stop again as her claustrophobia creeps into the forefront of her mind once again.
Damon Grimm
|
Damon nodded at Stella after she took the items and identified the potion, saying, ”Seems like he needs it.”
Short rest anyone? Or should we move on? Damon could use a chance to spend a HD in case we get into another fight.
| Stella Destino |
Stella might need a little convincing to take a short rest unless it's pretty unanimous. I'm thinking she's pretty antsy to get out of here
After taking the scroll & potion, Stella walked over to where Stormbrow was lying and handed him the potion before she said "Take this, it'll help you get on your feet faster so that we can leave this infernal place!".
Damon Grimm
|
With our three front liners at medium+ wounds, Damon would like to rest and spend HD, saving the potion if possible. If we get into another battle, If we use the healing potion now, I think our only healing ability in the party is a few points of his LOH unless Stella has some spells left. Perhaps a compromise? The uninjured ones can work out a way to get our mobility-impaired ones up the steep incline while the three melee fighters do a short rest?

Damon sat heavily on the bed next to the Ulfen warrior, bandaging his wounds and drinking some water.

While the injured rested, Stella couldn't keep still no matter what she tried. Wanting to think of anything other than the walls she was sure were slowly closing in around her, she decided to move toward the other exit of the cavern hoping to spot or think of the best way out of here.
Perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 5 = 6
Unfortunately, she was much too distressed and distracted to gleam anything useful. I'm assuming Onyx is there with me. If that's not the case I can adjust my post. "I'm drawing a blank on how to safely get our two injured friends up that hill. Do you have any idea Onyx?"
| Onyx Duskrunner |
Onyx stands next to Stella, hands on his hips and looks up the incline. He tests a few of the old pitons and handholds then turns to her, smiling.
"Ropes. We can get some people up top, and we can feed ropes down to our injured companions. I'll climb up in advance and replace any loose pitons or hammer in new ones if there is a difficult gap. If we go slowly and carefully enough it shouldn't be too difficult. What do you think? Oh, and who's Onyx?"

"Works for me." Pausing for a moment, she continues "And is Onyx not your nickname? Sorry if I misremembered Granite, I haven't felt like myself since we've been down here..."
| Kokam Kawlo |
Kokam joined Damon in striding over to the fallen dwarf, checking if he was still a threat.
She looked sadly down at his crumpled form, "It is a shame we could not help him....or him us." she said plainly, picking up her spear and dart.
When talk turns to matters of rest, she nods, "I agree, that dwarf was a match for us all. I think we are lucky he fell when he did..."
Joining Stella and Onyx at the base of the 'stairway', "Indeed, we can fashion 'seats' out of the rope and pull them up if need be.". She'd seen such done in her time in the mountains.
Short rest sounds like a plan!
| Onyx Duskrunner |
Onyx's grin widens and he puts a hand on Stella's shoulder
"No, no, I'll stop messing with you." He extends his hand, as if meeting her for the first time "My mama's Onyx Duskrunner, no nickname, but if you'd prefer to call me Granite, that's just fine with me. I've been called much worse... recently." At the last word he looks over to the elderly nobleman.
| Stella Destino |
"Well it's a pleasure to meet you Oynx, though I've grown rather used to your 'other name'." she responds while shaking his hand with a wink and a smile, her first in hours. Turning to Kokam "Great let's get to work then while the others rest. The sooner we're out of here the better!"
Damon Grimm
|
Damon looked up from his rest with a crooked smile at his friend’s admission. He had been waiting quite some time for this opportunity. ”I’m glad you shared your given name with the young lady, Onyx. After all, we wouldn’t want her to take you for Granite,” he jested, now smiling broadly at his own wordplay.
| Onyx Duskrunner |
Onyx did his best to hide his smile "A pun? From you? Damon, I expected more from a Knight of the Sunrise Sword! Maybe mine, or one of the other higher forms of humour."
He pulled his bag from his shoulder and started to unravel the rope. He looked to the party "Who's up for impersonating our Dwarven friend and climbing some walls?"

When the group arrived at the next cavern (Would we travel all of Golarian before seeing the surface again?! she thought) they came to the ruins of the fallen tower clearly felled during the chaos that reigned earlier above ground. Before entering the cavern, Stella heard, and eventually saw a few humanoid-like shapes moving about in the rubble. Wary after their exchange with the dwarf, she had the group stop for a moment. "I see a couple of beings moving in the rubble of that fallen tower. Do you think they might treat us similarly to our dwarf friend from earlier?"
Can I tell what type of humanoid Stella saw/ what they're wearing?

Actions 1:
After his rest, Damon felt somewhat better. Helping Anevia and Aravashnial up the vertical climb, he was happy how well they worked together--especially how his friend Onyx had taken charge and ingeniously set up the ropes for a safe ascent.
In a quiet moment where he and Horgus had a chance to converse, Damon smiled at the elderly noble and said, "I am thankful that we have gotten this far, Lord Gwerm, and I appreciate your help. I have a request for you, and an observation, if I may be so presumptuous. My request is this: Stella, our druidess, seems to be increasingly uncomfortable so far from the flora and fauna of the surface world. An experienced and wise man such as yourself might be able to restore a bit of equilibrium to her mood--almost like a father figure would. I would be indebted to you if you could help in that regard."
Persuasion: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (11) + 5 = 16
"I have noticed that wearing my faith emblazoned openly on my raiment invites certain assumptions about my behavior and might allow others to prejudge me or attempt to use my faith to manipulate me. As a wise and experienced noble lord, I can see the use in keeping your cards close to your vest in that regard when it comes to dealing with the many powerful people I am sure you have come into contact with in the course of your life. However, we are on the same side and must fight the same demonic forces, and I hope your faith strengthens you for this long journey," speaks Damon quietly and earnestly. "If you ever want to discuss matters of faith with me, I am sure I could learn many things from your wisdom," he finishes respectfully.

Horgus is a bit apprehensive at first when his champion approached him again. He had already been rejected by the paladin when the Ulfen affronted him and he did not want a repeat of the scenario. However, seeing this inept group of young men and women bumble their way through the underground gave him pause. Maybe they are just inexperienced and really do need my help. And I really do need to get back topside...
He nodded to Damon, "The woman does seem respectful, unlike the two foreigners. We aren't even discussing the demon-spawn."
He sighed, "I think you and the druid might be the only ones worth a lick of salt in this whole group. But you need to promise to heed my advice when I dispense it. Will you do this or just ignore me like you did before?"

He continued, "I place my faith in Abadar who is very invested in seeing the demon blight ended just as much as Iomedae is. He's a just god but often misunderstood among the crusaders. I trust you will keep this information to yourself."

Following the scout through the long tunnel, Damon whispered to Onyx as they came upon the scene, "It looks like the seismic activity above caused that tower to fall. What do you think, Onyx, can we afford to try and help them? I can try to approach them if you think we should."

"Thank you, Lord Gwerm, for your patience with me. I do indeed strive to uphold Iomedae's teachings, such as her admonition to never abandon a companion, which compelled me to try and save us all even though you are right that it would have been easier and faster to leave them behind. I will, however, give your advice the full weight due an honored noble lord, for that is, of course, what you are," replied Damon, trying to strike a balance between honoring the noble and letting him know his faith comes first.
"As far as the situation with the scale, it was indeed rather unfortunate and tempers were running rather high. You seemed to resolve it well in the end, and the scale has even just recently protected me as we fought the mad sorcerer," he added, saying, "Thanks for giving it to me--I hope to live up to my promise to protect you to the best of my ability, and the scale has certainly been helping."
The young paladin continued, "Thanks for agreeing to talk with Stella. I will, of course, keep your confidence about Abadar, quite an honorable faith in my humble opinion. Perhaps we can converse in a more comfortable location when this is all over and we have reached the surface once again."

Onyx entered the cavern, and looked around with more than a hint of wonder How could such a massive tower fit underground? I've heard tales of enormous Dwarven cities, but never expected this under Kenabres...
...
In response to Damon and Stella, Onyx pulled his short bow from his shoulder and said quietly "I'll take a wide berth and stay in the shadows. We need allies, but my poor attempt at diplomacy didn't do any of us favours back there. Stella, you say these may be the cursed former crusaders? I still don't know if I believe the rumours, but I hope they aren't as bitter as I would be if I were forced underground for generations. Be safe, both of you."
With that Onyx pulled his hood tight and hugged the wall, skulking in the shadows while keeping both his allies and the humans in sight.

Action 1
Kokam allowed herself some satisfaction as they successfully got the elderly elf and wounded archer up the incline. Still it had been taxing, she was glad for the rest they'd allowed themselves.
As they walked, she noticed Damon's whispered conference with the odious nobleman. Frowning, she hoped the holy warrior had the sense not to put too much stock in what the old windbag had to say, commenting to Stormbrow as they walked the long passage, "Why does Damon waste his time with that rasshøl?"
Action 2
As they entered the larger cavern, Kokam kept an eye on the ceiling, wary of any other Ghosts or Spookies....or spell slinging dwarfs.
She squints ahead as Stella tells them what she can discern of the individuals working to help one of their own in the rubble. The fact that it was an actual tower that had fallen over, would have surprised Kokam a day earlier. Now, it's just one more wonder to have found here deep underground.
She frowns at the uncertainty of the others, "Sometimes actions speaks louder than words...we should help them...now"
