Damon nodded his approval at Hallvardr's effective attack, then he turned to attack the remaining cultist, hoping to take him down before the reinforcements arrived.
Stabbing straight at the enemy's torso, Damon tried to penetrate the cultist's defenses quickly and escape retaliation.
Sunrise Sword Attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (14) + 5 = 19
Sunrise Sword Damage: 1d8 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 9
Slipping past the cultist's defense, the sword thrust neatly dispatched the last cultist in the room--for the moment.
"Regroup and prepare for their reinforcements," said the paladin, raising his shield and looking at the unopened doors warily.
Hallvarðr Stormbrow
Shut the door friend... don't let them see what they have to deal with. Either that or Charge! Keep the pressure up!, says an uncharacteristically war wise young man.
Stella Destino
With the second wave of cultists taken care of, Stella relaxed slightly for a moment while she pondered what their next move shouldd be. Noticing how close the doors were to each other, she was struck by an idea. "If we decide to wait for their friends to come to us I have an idea. We group together at the far wall away from the doors and lure them towards us. I'll then use my magic (the entangle spell) to create some restraining vines that should hopefully stop most of them in their tracks!" she shared with the group. "We can then attack them from afar or pick them off one by one"
Damon Grimm
|
As far as I know, the doors are already shut except the one we came in. I could have missed something in the description, though.
Reluctant to charge forward given the three doors and the possibility of being flanked from behind, Damon nodded at Stella’s plan, saying, ”That could work,” and continued to hold his position and shield, trying to establish a defensive front.
Would we need to back out of the room to make that work? Damon can adjust his position as needed for Stella’s plan...
Stella Destino
I think either moving back to the first room or lining up along the bottom wall would work spatially though arriving in an empty room might make the cultists more suspicious of a trap
Kokam Kawlo
Kokam switches stances in order to continue her attack, but Damon dispatches the cultist before she can strike.
Seeing the immediate threats were eliminated, Kokam checked the cultists for anything of use, commenting on Stella's plan, "A sound plan, Stella. " then considers Stormbrow's suggestion, "Or we could press our advantage...the other cultists may not have heard the shouts and are unaware of our presence"

”If we want to pick a door and charge ahead, that is fine—we’ll just need good rearguard defense if we have them come up behind us,” Damon said, listening carefully to see if he could tell which door might have approaching cultists behind it.

Roscoe nodded. He puts up a hand. "I can bat clean up and hit from a distance if needed." He put away his rapier and readied a sling, He looked around at the others, "What you think we earned a name like Tosscobble by serving the best ales and fine cheeses?"
Stella Destino
"Its decided then." Stella added before she attempted to assist Damon in tracking which way they should go next.
Investigation: 1d20 ⇒ 8
Unable to discern any useful clues herself, Stella will let the others decide which of the three paths to take.
@Fabian, My star map feature allows me to cast Augury a few times per long rest. Do you think I still need the material components (which are not consumed) to cast the spell or does the star map negate that requirement?
Stella Destino
If I'm not able to use Augury just pretend this never happened :)
While the group finished conferring over their next course of action, Stella's necklace began to pulse again, this time with a soft purplish light. Sensing that this might be another gift from Desna, she decided to try something new. Grabbing a few pebbles and rocks strewn on the ground, she closed her eyes and stood motionless, concentrating on the spell.
As she did so, the stones began to become infused with the same purplish light as the Star Map seemingly drained. Pondering what to do next, she vaguely heard the group choose a path forward and realized what she needed to do. Opening her eyes, she thinks of her question and asks out loud, "Weal or Woe?" before she cast them in front of her and examines the result for an answer.
Cast augury using my Star Map feature to try and discern what may happen down our chosen path.

Shuddering in pain, Damon moved quickly into the room around the table and tried to box in the archer from the east. With her divination inconclusive, the group decided to press on and chose the southernmost door. Unfortunately for Damon, danger was lurking right behind it as he was struck by an arrow into his body. Before she could even react, Roscoe had already healed the knight and...and copied himself somehow! Not sure whether it was magic, trickery or something else entirely, she hoped to use the the confusion to land a hit with her fire magic. And though her magic did reach its target, it was just a glancing blow that barely struck the cultist's arm singeing it lightly.

Just a question, GM. In the first round we did 20 points of damage to Wendaug, and the second round we did 18+. After the first round, Wendaug was at medium wounds, and after the second it appears he is still at medium wounds...Is that right? It also appears that Damon is still at medium wounds after being healed twice...Is it possible the health of the combatants was not updated on your last post?

It's the range that makes it confusing but I did make a mistake with Wenduag.
Wenduag starts with 75 hp and ends with 50 hp (50/75) which is 66% or medium wounds.
She then ends with 31 hp which should be (31/75) or 41% which is serious wounds. So she's currently at serious wounds.
Damon was at 6 hit points (6/20 or 30% or serious wounds). He was then healed 8 hit points, ending at 14/20 or 70% or medium wounds.
I used the ranges because it makes more sense that you really would not know how hurt an opponent was down to a very precise number. But of course, if you the players are counting the hitpoints then it doesn't make a lot of sense.
Does that work for you guys or would you rather just get the actual hitpoints?
Roscoe Tosscobble
Both Roscoe's left their positions and crossed the room to meet the new enemy moving past and through each other. One directly in front of Hallvardr the other next to cultist opposite Stella. Both likewise move to attack. Roscoes bring out rapiers and lurch pointy ends darting for the new cultist.
Duplicate Roscoe is in front of Hall. Real Roscoe is by the recruit. I will drop my sling if I have to in order to draw my rapier as I move and strike. Moving Duplicate Roscoe is the bonus action. I have advantage with myself.
Rapier Attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (13) + 5 = 18
Rapier Attack Advantage: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (16) + 5 = 21
Damage: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (8) + 3 = 11
Roscoe hearing the rustling in the room to the west yells out, "The intruders fled away past the barricades. Hurry they are getting away."
More flavor than Deception attempt. (I don't have an action left).

Thanks for the update. I was worried that 18+ damage hadn’t moved the needle...
In general, with character hp and healing spells/lay on hands, it helps to know my character’s exact hit points when I am healing myself, for example. It makes sense the other PC’s might not know each other’s exact hp, though. Even more so for enemies.
For ease of math and healing spells, etc., I suggest tracking PC exact hp in a tag line or post in the discussion section only. I like the uncertainty of enemy health. so the damage thresholds or ranges would be good there. Perhaps we deal with exact hp damage and healing in the Discussion thread (with no mention of the actual total HP of the enemy), then do the damage ranges for the cinematic Gameplay story summaries?
