[PFS1] GM Pudding's Carrion Hill (Inactive)

Game Master Tom G

SLIDES

"Walk, if you will, the claustrophobic alleys of the Tangle, the middenstone vats of the Filth, and the cobbled white roads at the summit of an ancient hill. Know that this is but the latest of cities to crown this summit, a monument to the filth and grime and waste of civilization. The city was built upon the battlefields of history past, for many have sought to control this key feature, this lonely hill in a sea of mud and mire. Only its name has remained constant through the ages—Carrion Hill."

Welcome foolish mortals! I recently completed my first play-by-post PFS scenario and enjoyed it very much. Next I would like to try running Carrion Hill, the lovecraftian cosmic-horror themed module set in Ustalav from 2009, for PFS credit.

I am looking for a group of 4 level 5 PFS characters who would like to play, and be happy to be locked up in a game for the several months it is likely to take. I'd also accept 5 or 6 players if some or all were level 4. The theme is cosmic horror in an urban setting, and the gameplay investigation and dungeon crawling. Completing it will net you 3XP and 4PP, as well as level-appropriate gold.

From you I'd expect a commitment to regular posting, ideally once per day during the week, and explicit consent to bot your character if we've been waiting on you for more than a day via botting instructions. I'd also like to see your full character details in your profile, and remember that this is being run as part of Pathfinder Society so they must be PFS legal characters.

For my part I intend to keep up with the same posting rate, and to do my best to make the world seem rich and terrifying. I use block initiative, where actions are resolved in the order that players post, characters are considered to have delayed in order to allow it. I also prefer to have players roll their own saves, but I will roll them where it is expedient to do so.

I would prefer to keep the number of players replaying the module to a minimum, so if you have played (or GM'd) it before please include that when you post your interest.

Finally I don't intend to run this first-come first-served, as I'd like to ensure there's a fairly balanced party if possible. I'll leave the recruitment open for a few days and then choose a team from the responses, assuming there's enough interest.

The Exchange

That looks great! I would love to join! I have neither played nor GMed this module before.

My profile is up to date with all information and due to the versatility of the character I do not have standard botting instructions (but I can include some if you like). I am posting regularly and I love to RP which you can see if you check my post. :-)

Character background:

Toral is a young Dwarf from a Kelish merchant family. He always felt the pull of the heavens and stars.

Toral embraces the lessons of the past as the heavens have watched over this world since the beginning of time.

He is a stoic negotiator but has an empathic approach. He is very perceptive and understands people's motives which is very important as a merchant.

He typically walks around in his full plate and during battle tries not to attack but use spells and hexes instead.

Toral's family has deep roots in the Exchange faction of the Pathfinder Society.

Thus, the Kargar brothers Almaas, Jangafzaar, Toral and Sadaf are all members of the Pathfinder Society.

Silver Crusade

Pathfinder Roleplaying Game Superscriber

Hello, I would also be interested in playing. I've neither played nor GMed the module and have a 4th level Arcanist or a 5th level Slayer.

Characters:

Eldrin Inarie - Level 4 Elven Arcanist (Grand Lodge).
Virburnum - Level 5 Vine Leshy Slayer (Grand Lodge).

Silver Crusade

A grumpy mumbling dwarf walks forward and reports an interest in this adventure.

I have three characters all of 5th level; A halfling fire oriented sorcerer, dwarf cleric of Torag, and an archer ranger with an eagle named Bravery. I would love to participate in this chapter of the carrion hill AP. I have not played or GM'd it. All three are Silver Crusade faction.

Player: Wydroe
Character: Grynyak
Class: CLeric of Torag
Faction: Silver Crusade

I will double check, but I believe his profile is up to date.

Grand Lodge

Hi
I've never played or GMed this module and my friend GL13 (Gillie) told me how great a GM you are :P

Mist is a vigilante/ninja which a penchant for shape-shifting.
She makes use of her Realistic likeness feat to adopt whatever shape is required. This can make things challenging for the GM as it can throw a spanner in the works since believe it or not the writers didn't account for the possibility of someone turning up looking EXACTLY like the target, or the dead guy, or say... a venture captain (I've done that before to mixed results)

Dark Archive

This sounds like a job for the greatest witch WIZARD! Master of magics no other wizard can fathom! Owner of a wit so sharp and witty that mortal minds crumble before it! A professional investigator of mysteries and strange disturbances! Reginald Gerbin the Third, at your service!

Lvl 5 witch who is convinced he's a wizard. Hexes opponents through terrible puns. He's played Gallows of Madness, which seems in a similar vein of investigations and dungeon crawling.

Dark Archive

Or, should his... humor be too much for you, Angoldir would be honored to reveal the truth of this place.

Lvl 5 investigator - same player as Reginald. I have neither played nor run this module.

Scarab Sages

Hi GM Pudding, I just played The Armenian Man in your Outpost III game. I'd love to play with you again!

Robyyn is a gravewalker Witch (he has a boon that allows this archetype), who has just learned how to create and command undead. He's becoming a dark character to play in many PFS games, but I think he'd be a GREAT fit for a Lovecraftian adventure!

Hi Pudding! Lyrio here, I was also in your adventure that just finished. He’s level 4, but I’d love if I could bring him to this one as well. Let me know.

Edit: I’m not sure if it’s possible, but since it’s an AP, I could build something from scratch (level appropriate) and give the credit to Lyrio or another of my PFS characters, right? Unless I’m missing anything on the rules.

Thanks for the interest everyone! We've clearly got enough interest so I'll leave this open for the weekend and make a selection on Monday.

Lyrio the older modules are not sanctioned for playing in so-called "campaign mode" so we are obliged to follow all the rules of PFS, including character creation.

However it is sanctioned for levels 4-6, so any characters in that range are legal to play. I don't intend to take any level 6 characters, but 2 level 4 and 3 level 5 would certainly be reasonable, so Lyrio is in the running!

Scarab Sages

First of all: I love that avatar! I've never seen it before; any idea of its source???

Lovecraftian, huh? How can I go wrong...?

Well, I've certainly got a few replays to spare; I've played this once before, but that was years ago.

That all being said, I've got the following characters who sound eligible:

- Angrboda Fossey: Human Druid 4 ("I got a slug." "Does it talk?" "Funny you should ask....")

- Xukong: Dhampir Kensei 5 (a real creeponaut, this one; think "Voldo of Soul Caliber-meets-Hsien Ko of Darkstalkers-meets-Pyramid Head of Silent Hill")

- Nectanebo the Vulture: Elf Necroccultist 5 (dark magic and refined, urbane tastes; another excellent fit)

- Xanac Candledark: Wayang Psychic 5 (If the name "Candlejack" tugs any ropes, you'll like this character)

- Ekanta Hanoi: Tiefling Fighter 4 (you might not even want to know this character's inspiration; gosh, I really do have a lot of spooky characters, don't I?)

- Alexis "The Odd" Trismegistis: Gnome Shaman True Silvered Throne 4 (okay, this one's not so spooky - but she'd fit just the same!)

- Sirius Sa'luk: Sylph Thief 4 (and now for something completely different - this one's not spooky at all, but he's a hell of a thief, and a hell of a lot of fun to play!)

Hello GM,

I see that a clear front-line PC is not in the group.

I also have a level 4 Paladin/Ninja character Taarik. He just made 4th level so I need to adjust the character sheet.

*

Description:

Taarik is a massive Ifrit. His hair is blazing and burning so that he almost warms his surroundings.
He has a greatsword and a bardiche on his back, a longsword at his side and a heavy shield in his hand.

He wears a fullplate that looks like it has seen battle recently.

Resting on top of his chest, an amulet showing the holy symbol of Irori is visible.

If it helps any, these 3 are the ones I'm most inclined to play.

Liberty's Edge

Drusilla the Spear Maiden, Fighter level 5

Frontliner, not too shabby with a bow.

Just need to check on her equipment

Dark Archive

It would be fortunate indeed to travel with such faithful allies once more. Well met, Grunyak and Drusilla. My debt to you is not forgotten.

Silver Crusade

"Well Met, Drusilla and Angoldir. You both look to have prospered since last we met. Bah! Angoldir, you owe me nothing. Your actions that day saved us all." The grumbling gone, a wide smile appears on his bearded dwarf's face. But still there is a hint of sadness in the violet eyes reflecting perhaps memories of comrades lost.

Thank you everyone for your interest. Taking only four players has turned out to be very difficult. Please could the following report into the discussion thread:

Drusilla the Spear-Maiden
Angoldir
Grunyak
Eldrin Inarie
Lyrio

I like keeping characters together, we have a nice mix of abilities, and with two characters at level 4 that should hopefully balance out the extra player.

To everybody else, thank you for applying and I hope to play with you in the future.

The Exchange

Thanks a lot and have fun guys! :-)

Hi Pudding - my apologies to you and the others, but I will actually step out as I need to organize some things on my time and characters. Hope you all have a great game!

No worries Lyrio, thanks for letting us know!

Taariik

If you would still like to join us, I'm sure your fellow Pathfinders would appreciate your help, please check into the discussion thread at your earliest convenience.

Thanks a lot!!
