Stephen climbs through the window and begins casting a spell.

There is a popping noise, and the air in front of Stephen shimmers. Just when it seems like this won't be too terribly impressive, a salvo of sharp needles speeds out of the shimmering field and into one of the Shirren (we'll say red).

This is "puncture veil." The target takes d4 damage and gains the bleeding condition for d3 rounds. No save.

We didn’t know anything was wrong until the first undead showed up!, come a telepathic response. By then it was too late to do anything for the rest! Kinnakt was the doctor, not me or Theskell! The patients were as good as dead already, so the best way to deal with it was to let the zombies come to us and make sure they were destroyed.

Puncture veil is three rounds of bleed 1, no need to roll for that part

The needles strike Theskell who cries out and looks for their source.

D'zyliit easily identifies the creature as an assembly ooze, a collection of suspended nanobots used to convert raw material into functioning technological devices. Given it construction, you know it is vulnerable to electricity, and immune to anything which relies on sight. With no vital organs and its distributed "life force" it is also immune to critical hits, paralysis, poison, polymorph, sleep, and stunning attacks. Oh, and it can't be flanked.

As Vyankar rounds the corner into the room, the ooze strikes out with its pseudopod. AoO

Pseudopod vs KAC: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (17) + 6 = 23
Damage (B): 1d4 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6

The pseudopod smashes into him, but he recovers quickly and attacks. The singing disk finishing off the creature.

Theskell stabilizes, but remains unconscious.

With your opponents defeated and no zombies on the horizon, you have time to investigate the house.

From the computers in the workshop you are able to piece together the full tragedy of Renew-You. As a new company they floundered, unable to build their cybernetic augmentations quickly enough to maintain a good income stream. They decided to try and cut costs by purchasing an illegal assembly ooze which someone had smuggled onto the station. Realizing that the ooze would not be able to make the quality of components they needed, Theskell started messing with its programming.

When the new program was brought on-line, it went right to work. First by absorbing a nearby suit of armor - and its occupant, Kinnakt. After that it began producing biotech augmentations rather than cybernetic ones.

Desperate to salvage something out of the horrible situation, the surviving shirrens began to sell the biotech. As you know the success of the augmentations was too good to be true, and without Kinnakt to recognize the problems with them, Theskell and Vrisken sold nearly a dozen augmentations before realizing anything was wrong.

After the first zombie broke into their home and they realized the augmentation were to blame, they closed the shop and barricaded themselves inside. Dealing with the zombies as they showed up, rather than risking arrest and imprisonment.

--

From the records you are able to get a list of the remaining customers and pass it along to Philt at Abadar Corp. He and the local authorities will seek them out to save or destroy them as needed.

Theskell and Vrisken are passed off to the Stewards for prosecution.

While Venture-Captain Arvin is disappointed that the augmentation technology isn’t reliable or reproducible, he is glad that you were able to deal with the biotech monstrosities and prevent the creation of any more. AbadarCorp is grateful to be spared negative publicity and gives the Starfinder Society all the prestige associated with solving the missing-persons cases.

Congratulations Starfinders!

I will be putting together the chronicle sheets later today. Thanks for playing! This group was a lot of fun.

Wayfinders

Male CN Half-elf Icon Technomancer 3 | SP 0/15 HP 11/19 | RP 3/3 | EAC 13; KAC 16 | Fort +1; Ref +1; Will +3 | Init: +0 | Perc: +2, SM: +0 | Speed 25ft | +2 vs. enchantment spells and effects, low light vision | Spells: Junksword, Supercharge Weapon, Remote Operation, Flight | Spell Slots 3/4 first level

As the combat ends, Modern Body swings his junksword, splashing a wall with blood from Theskell and remains from the ooze. During the movement, the pieces of junk spread apart before joining together, and the augment removed from the Maija is clearly visible, embedded in the weapon.
---
Gross. They were installing dead pieces of their colleague into their patients, the sickos.” comments Modern Body, as they investigate the computers. “Hellih, help me remove all modules pertaining to the research and methods used to create the augments. Vrisken was not only a reckless fool, but he also lacked vision. This is an incredibly powerful bioweapon, in the wrong hands. Mass-produce this crap, flood an enemy market, give a couple of weeks for the zombies to pop-up, the rioting begins, and bam! Invade them. Better keep this knowledge restricted to the Starfinder Society.” he concludes.
----
Alright, companions, we had a somewhat rough start, but I’m glad you all came around and helped me complete the mission. Next time, I expect you to fully cooperate right from the start, so we don’t waste any time. See you around!” Modern Body struts away, larger than life.

Vyankar sheathes his weapons and takes a few minutes to clean his robes from blood and remains of the ooze. He makes sure the shirren are stable and restrained before joining the rest of the group. He shakes his head at Modern Body's logic.

"Cowardly and unethical tactics. No honor in subduing enemy by needlessly harming civilians." He takes Vrisken's limp body on his shoulder to bring back to the Stewards. "What we see today should be lesson. Greed and lack of ethics can only lead to horrors like this."

--------------

Vyankar silently listens to Arvin's briefing.
"That why I do not trust augmentations: too much potential for bugs or errors. Own biological systems good enough for me."

The kasatha looks at the half-elf walking away with a look on his face that seems halfway between the frown and the grin. "Interesting fellow. Very skilled and capable agent; shame he lacks honor and patience."

He then turns to Diz, smiling. "Look at old me, rambling again. Been good to see you again, friend." he shakes the shirren's hand vigorously. "Glad to see you still at it despite what happened. Come visit me when you get chance." he laughs for one of the first times since getting the assignment. "Kids been asking where uncle Diz is for while now."

To the rest of the group, he adds:
"Hellih, Kargarama, Stephen; pleasure to meet you. Talavet willing, I hope we meet again someday."

Male LN Shirren Biohacker 8| SP: 12/48| HP: 54/54 | RP: 10/10 | EAC:20 KAC:22 | Fort +6/Ref +7/Will +7 (+2 vs mind-affecting) | Init +5 | Perception +19

Shortchanging established procedures I can...understand. the shirren admits as he processes the augmenters' records. There are times where one must experiment to discover the new bounds of the possible. But After their own companion was absorbed, to continue to exploit it...

...and to fail to even annonymously report or warn subjects once nature of augments was apparent...

The doctor is at a loss for words. His antennae are twitching with anger for some time.

After the criminal pair are taken into custody and the party reported back to the Venture Captain, D'zyliit joins Vyankar's gaze as they both watch Modern Body depart. Certainly a curious and memorable sort. Highly competent, results-focused morality. A combination that could make him quite the legend one way or the other.

And I would be happy too join for a meal. the shirren nods before suddenly stopping abruptly and scanning an urgent incoming call on his comm unit. D'zyliit's expression freezes, then he hurriedly gathers his things. But it will need to be another date. There seems to have been an incident nearby. Connected to my... primary field. He turns to the kasatha quickly. Advice: enjoy this evening with your family in a Secured home. then rushes off.

D'zyliit needs to jump right into his GM Credit blob for Illegal Shipment :)

Kargarama agrees with Vyankar, "The pair had no morals or conscience. To bring harm to over a dozen of their clients just to recover their losses is beyond comprehension."

After listening to the briefing overview and Modern Body's departure, he puts both hands to his forehead while shaking his head and says, "Good riddance. Venture-Captain Arvin, if there are ever any missions in which Modern Body is assigned, please reassign me. I would rather be chained to a skittermander for life."

He nods his head at each of the other team members in turn, "Vyankar, D'zyliit, Hellih, Stephen, a pleasure and hope to see you on other missions."

With that, Kargarama looks over his wounds and says, "Time for a long rest and relaxation. I do believe I'll visit that Barber Shop."

Second Seekers (Jadnura)

Male Android Street Rat Mechanic/7 | SP: 56/56 | HP: 48/48 | RP: 7/7 | EAC:25 KAC:26 | Fort +7/Ref +10/Will +4 | Init +6 | Perception +1 | Land speed: 30ft | Swim: 20ft | Fly: 30ft

Hellih nods to ModerBody suggestion to secure the findings. He helps to disassemble any parts that could be of use, remove hard drives, do the copies of the program. They make sure that whatever is not taken is destroyed.

"Yeah I know of a gang using such ooze to produce weapons from scraps. Creating augmentation like those could be deadly for masses. "

As he analyzes the code that the shirren used to change the Nanites he can't shake the feeling that he would have done a better job with it. As he secures the evidence he takes a sample of augmentation and copies the code. He might experiment with it later in his workshop.

Hellih heads to Lvl 3 and will take healing nanites as a feat ;) Which matches what we dealt with, in here.

-------

When returning to Starfinder Society android listens to the reports. His cigarette is in his mouth unlit as always in those offices.

When he hears the comment about Vyankar not trusting the augmentation

"Not all of us are so lucky as you are Vyankar, some of us lost parts of our bodies. And some begin their lives without full biological tissue." comments in a monotone voice.

He looks at Modern Body departure with mixed feelings, but he does not say a thing.

"Stephen, D'zyliit, Vyankar I wish you well. If you need a weapon come to my shop in downlow."

Turning to Kargarama he speaks in his tongue, his android voice is still very still but pronunciation is not terrible

Speaking in Vesk:

"The ghost in my arm, told me to tell you. You fought well young Soldier, follow the path of honor as you did today!"

Hellih passes the words to Vesk soldier, he does not comment on what he thinks of honor. Sharing his opinions rarely brought anything good. He is glad that he begins to get along with his arm, doing a favor for the ghost may only make it better.
