Kai Misipeka
"Yep, alright, I'll be right with you." Kai chirps cheerfully at the five guys. "Just point me at what needs to be done!"
Bluff, pass secret message to Nissa: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (3) + 7 = 10
Charles Wilde
Charles continues to silently follow Kai, hoping to avoid notice. His muscles are coiled with tension, however, the wary patience of a predator waiting to pounce.
Nissa, the Subatomic Bombshell
Not sure if DC10 secret messages exist, but on the upside, that’s more or less what I was working toward in my previous post anyway.
Nissa gets to the cockpit—near it, or in it if she can. From rehearsing the routine, Nissa knows to open a muted comm so she can get visuals from Kai (and hear the voice through the tarp). She makes sure Kai has a visual.
I assume Legion has a camera. Nissa’s com can also provide a visual, so no matter how you look at it, Kai has a means to virtually peek under the tarp.
Tarren the Dungeon Master
Two of the men start barking orders at Kai, Charles, and the three other men. There's no question who is in charge among them. "Come on, get me strapped me in. I'm gonna walk up out of the bay like Godzilla and those Thin Spot dweebs better be filming." The men take the tarp off this huge red mecha and the boss climbs in and lies down to be strapped in.
Nissa, the Subatomic Bombshell
I need Legion to be, like, a video game controller.
That or I take the wheel (hand controls) whole Legion takes the pedal. (Can’t spell “Legion” without “Leg.” Eh...?
Kai Misipeka
"That'll be awesome, boss! Let me just double check the ocean floor here, make sure there's nothing to trip you up."
Under that pretense, Kai walks around so that most of the real Red Shirts don't have a clear line of sight, and fiddles with the com to give Nissa control over Legion once the mech is hacked.
Bluff: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (19) + 7 = 26
Computers to hack mech, expertise: 1d20 + 15 + 1d6 ⇒ (5) + 15 + (6) = 26 Legion also has Computers as a trained skill, could Legion aid?
Legion computers aid: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (10) + 8 = 18
Tarren the Dungeon Master
The DC to hack was 26, so Kai, through Legion, has hacked the mecha and handed over controls to Nissa. Nissa has herself a mecha. It's going to take time to get strapped in.
On the yacht, someone barks orders at Charles. The other men on deck are strapping in one of the bosses, who just lies there acting like a knight getting squires to put his armor on.
Tarren the Dungeon Master
Meanwhile, those on shore, including Gristlethorn and Zellgato, see the majority of those who were on the yacht getting into a peach submersible shaped like a Starfish and descend to the bottom of the bay.
A handful of others walk past the handsome guy (Theo) and make their way towards the large structure that the beach crew assembled last night. It looks like an upside down spider. You saw them construct it out of fairly light material and then spray it to harden it and make it look like metal.
It's hard to tell what this is, but it looks like a giant, fake, metallic, upside-down spider.
Nissa, the Subatomic Bombshell
Nissa makes sure she’s ready to go. She isn’t sure if her shortness is something her skills can compensate for, but she’ll set up as best she can. (—with Legion’s help?)
Pilot: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (18) + 10 = 28

Charles Wilde
Charles keeps his head down and obeys the man ordering him around, hoping they weren't expecting anyone in particular. He watches and listens carefully for signs of anything out of the ordinary, trying to guess who was actually in on the real plan here.

Kai Misipeka
Kai tries to catch Charles's eye and signal that a distraction would be welcome about now. Nothing big, just something to get attention off Kai while kai tries to do *something* to the big red mech.
Bluff to pass secret message: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (11) + 7 = 18
Stealth: 1d20 ⇒ 4
Basically, need some help with my non-existent stealth. :)
Nissa, the Subatomic Bombshell
Nissa sends a text to the group. (It’s for Kai, but sent to all in case Kai is busy.)
We ready to roll or what? Just tell Kai to shout ‘ACTION,’ and—
—it’s show time!
♥️,
Uhura
The Olympian
Nissa, the Subatomic Bombshell
But I mean say it aloud, and then, Big O… action!
Tarren the Dungeon Master
I guess we might as well address that Stealth check...
Kai tries to get Charles attention to ask for a distraction, but succeeds at getting the others' attention instead. Until now, Kai had been beneath notice, but not anymore. "Hey, why aren't you in a swimsuit? Do any of you guys know who this is?"
Zellgato
Zellgato is roughly unaware of the plan, can piece together some bits. But doesn't know the finer details.
As Zellgato double checks his bolt action injection rifle, he glances at his cohort Gristlethorn. Gris-Looks like they're not happy with Kai, a group is breaking off the other set too. Towards the objective machine thingy. Might be trouble coming."
Zellgato, takes a deep breath and prepares to cover Kai if it turns agressive.
[ooc] Ready Action to shoot. Trigger: Any hostile actions towards Kai (such as grabbing Kai, drawing weapons, etc). Of note. I wouldn't know the potential robot take over.
Envenom Shot: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (10) + 8 = 181d6d8 + 2 ⇒ (6, 1, 7, 7, 6) + 2 = 29 To hit, and piercing damage.
EDIT: Whups that Damage dice is wrong. I'm in preview but I don't think I can delete safely? damage dice: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 2 = 10
No increment penalties up to 480ft. 160ft ignore 2AC cover, 320 ignore 1 AC cover. (Sniper scope + Farshot)
On hit, they gain Sickened Condition (Poison effect), and reduce speed by 50% (all movement types) to a min. Biohack +Hampering THeorom. 5/6 biohacks remain.
Of note. I should read the Mech rules to see how Biohacks interact with them, or don't. So far the game hasn't made distinction for power armour etc so not sure they would for mechs.
EDIT: Okay thats a lot of details for my attacks. This weekend I'll make "shot types" in my stat block. It'll list all the side effects. So i'll make up names for every shot. This sickening one will be Envenom Shot or something like that. I'll figure out names. That way my attacks will just be names + to hit + damages.

☀️
Nissa hears the sound of things not going as planned. Fortunately, she’s ready to do her crazy part!
Pilot Check 28 rolled earlier
Nissa has her mech rise up and whip the tarp aside—!
She looks at the dude-bro who’s not quite strapped into his mech.
“Hey, party-dude… having trouble with your strap-on?”
Supermodel (“attitude check”): 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (14) + 13 = 27
You might immediately realize Nissa is the smart-ass pilot of the newly-risen mech. She is 2’3” and wearing a dress literally made of sunlight.
Tarren the Dungeon Master
"Hey, not cool! That's my ride!" complains one of the dudebros as Nissa rises up in the big blue mecha.
Red mecha starts to lift itself up but the power fails before it's fully standing.
Unfortunately, all eyes were on Kai when Kai sabotaged Big Red.
All four of the men on deck not wearing mecha turn on Kai.
The man strapped into the temporarily non-functioning big red machine shouts, "I don't know who you two are, but you are NOT getting a ride back with us. Get off our yacht now!"
Nissa, the Subatomic Bombshell
☀️ Capped at 1 as long as we’re not in combat rounds.
Nissa twirls her flail and harpoon around and has her solar armor dim and brighten its yellow glow. She says to the men getting too close to her friends:
“Get away from them, you dicks!”
Glaring at the man in the red mech, she says, “What’s the mech for? We know the plan on Ms. Gray’s end.”
Tarren the Dungeon Master
I think Nissa's twirling of flail is enough to trigger Zellgato's planned shot ...
There's a 'thwip' sound and one of the men grabs at something near the back of his shoulder. He very quickly becomes nauseated as evidence by his vomiting everywhere.
"Dude!" complains the bossman in Red Mecha.
The 4 dudes facing off against Kai and Nissa slide into Karate stances with the confidence of boys who grew up with their own personal martial arts instructors.
One them attempts to leap past Kai and reattach the power cable. Acrobatics, must beat 21: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (10) + 10 = 20 He provokes an Attack of Opportunity from Kai
Despite one of them being nauseated and the other being strapped into non-functioning machinery, these five guys are still pretty confident. They wait for you to strike first. Kai and Nissa have the initiative. Kai also gets an AoO on one of them.
Gristlethorn
Gristlethorn see the action start up. "Alright Zellgato, this is where this bear goes for walkies."
Gristlethorn stands up and shakes a little, flying dirt and sand going every which way. He then begins a swift stride towards Kai.
Kai Misipeka
That was way too many people being physically menacing towards a computer engineer who had never been in a fight before. Kai takes a step back, searching for a wall, a railing or some other solid object to protect Kai's back, then crouches with hands over head.
Taking the total defense action, +4 to AC.
Nissa, the Subatomic Bombshell
☀️
“So that’s how you wanna play.”
Nissa strikes the red mech, intent on banging it up without killing the dude bro.
Harpoon, +2 Reckless: 1d20 + 9 + 10 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 9 + 10 + 2 = 27
Damage, +1 Photon: 2d8 + 9 + 1 ⇒ (7, 7) + 9 + 1 = 24
Do I get a choice of 2 attacks normally, or 3 attacks with Dual Strike penalty? If yes, here’s the second arm!
Flail, +2 Reckless: 1d20 + 9 + 10 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 9 + 10 + 2 = 36
Damage, +1 Photon: 2d8 + 9 + 1 ⇒ (1, 4) + 9 + 1 = 15
She says to the men closest to the harpoon arm, “Maybe ya wanna just step to the side a little? I don’t wanna make dude-kabobs outta ya. Like, for real.”
The Olympian
Once Theo hears the ruckus, the godling drops whatever he's doing to maintain the disguise and hauls it toward the fight.
Tarren the Dungeon Master
Nissa, can you explain the 1d20+9+10+2? What are the bonuses for?
As for actions, the playtest says, "While at least one operator is
controlling it, a mech can take one move action per turn and one
reaction per round. Operators can take a full action to pilot a mech, granting it an additional move action or standard action that turn". I understand this to mean that the mech can take a move action, a reaction, and one more move or standard action per operator. As for 'dual action', it says, "When making a full attack with two different weapons mounted on your arms, you attack twice with one of those weapons and once with the other weapon. You take a –4 penalty to these attacks." So, all of the attacks would be at -4 but you'd get 3 attacks.
Charles Wilde
Charles transforms into his chimera form and runs to interpose himself between Kai and the men threatening him.
"Do you even KNOW what this machine would have done?" he roars at them as he takes his place.
Tarren the Dungeon Master
One of Nissa's attacks strikes while Big Red's shields are down. It's a punishing blow. The man who rushed forward as Kai retreated succeeds at reconnecting Big Red.
Now that his cable is reconnected, his shield buzzes to life. It won't be as easy to damage him next time.
The other three trust fund Karate kids are startled enough to take a few steps back when Charles transforms. "What the freak are you even?" asks one. Another arms himself with a boat hook. A third picks up a life preserver on a rope.
As Big Red comes to life, the pilot shouts, "Oh, yeah! It's on baby! Now you're going to GET! OFF! MY! YACHT!!"
Tarren the Dungeon Master
I think we have three different areas of interest happening. On shore, Gristlethorn, on his way to the fight, has just frightened a bunch of red shirts who were investigating the structure. Gristlethorn will take two rounds to get to the yacht.
Charles and Kai are on the yacht. Theo is heading there. He will be there in another round.
Charles, Kai, and, in another round, Theo are going to be in combat against the trust fund karate club. They were freaked out enough by Charles to step back and take no other actions. It is Charles and Kai's turn.
Nissa, in Blue One, is facing off against one of the dudebros in Big Red. Big Red, just having gotten power, is going to take a move action.
"Come fight me, baby!" yells the dudebro at Nissa. Big Red steps back quickly smashing through the railing as it pushes itself off the side of the yacht and into the water. He pushes off with enough force that the yacht shakes, but not enough to knock anyone off their feet. Big Red is under water now.
Nissa, the Subatomic Bombshell
1 person marked this as a favorite.
☀️☀️
Nissa shouts, “Hey! If it’s on like Donkey Kong, why you takin’ off? Like Donkey Cough?”
She jumps ship and clobbers Big Red!
Harpoon: 1d20 + 9 + 10 ⇒ (20) + 9 + 10 = 39
Damage, x2 Crit!: 2d8 + 9 + 1 + 2d8 + 10 ⇒ (7, 3) + 9 + 1 + (2, 1) + 10 = 33
Conf Crit: 1d20 + 9 + 10 ⇒ (14) + 9 + 10 = 33
Kai Misipeka
Legion has +3 to Piloting.
Seeing the dudebro's minions pause in their assault, Kai gains a little courage and pulls out the one weapon Kai feels least uncomfortable using, aiming it at one of them and firing.
Attack, pulsecaster pistol: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 2 = 20 damage, nonlethal: 1d4 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
Then Kai scurries away behind whatever features of the yacht would provide a little cover.
Charles Wilde
"More dangerous than you, that's what I am!" Charles roars. Debating between his targets, he selects the one with a boat hook and charges forward.
As he reaches his foe, Charles rears up and aims a swat with a paw at the guy's head, aiming to subdue rather than kill.
Attack: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (11) + 9 = 20
Non-lethal Damage: 1d3 + 11 ⇒ (2) + 11 = 13
Tarren the Dungeon Master
Sorry, Zellgato, yes, this would be a new round.
One of the minions gets a jolt from Kai's pulsecaster pistol.
As the boat hook has reach, I think this guy will get an AoO. He's the one who recently vomited and he's still not doing well, and he's armed with a pretty useless weapon. He'll try to hook Charles despite all this.
boat hook; non-lethal damage: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (12) + 6 = 181d3 ⇒ 1
Charles' swat knocks a perfect tooth out. It clatters on the deck.
Tarren the Dungeon Master
"Where'd you learn to dive, sparkles?" comes through a voice on the intercom. "This is the deep end of the pool, love. You sure you're ready for this?"
I'm not going to make you roll for normal walking or fighting, but maneuvers that would require a Pilot check would require one from both Legion and Nissa.
It doesn't take Nissa long to figure out how to make Big Blue One swim.
Tarren the Dungeon Master
With Kai taking cover and shooting from range, three of the minions make their attacks against Charles. While one swings again with the boat hook trying to trip Charles with in, the other two punch and kick.
boat hook; non-lethal damage: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 81d3 ⇒ 3
improved unarmed strike: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (19) + 9 = 281d6 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5
improved unarmed strike: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (14) + 9 = 231d6 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6
The boss dudebro who had intended to be driving Big Blue One decides he doesn't want to get shot at. He runs away from the fight, towards the steps to the lower deck.
Nissa, the Subatomic Bombshell
“Then let’s not play shallow games like you hiding behind the submarine or me destroying your yacht. Just you and me. Don’t keep a girl waiting.”
Nissa is of course ready to intercept an attack if the foe leaves the Starfish to attack her.
Readied Action: 1d20 + 9 + 10 ⇒ (17) + 9 + 10 = 36
Damage: 2d8 + 9 + 1 ⇒ (8, 6) + 9 + 1 = 24
