Table Maps | Passing the Torch | Slaver's End

Alright gang, I am back from SkalCon and wanted to check if you are all still ready to go. I have a weekend at Disney this coming weekend but I should be able to get up to speed on what you’ve discussed so far. Let me know your status and I will try to get things rolling soon.

Sounds great. I am ready to go.

Out of town til next sunday... Limited postiing until then.

I am very curious about what is going to happen to you guys with the custom official. My previous experience with customs included confiscation of heavy weapons, massive bribes to be able to cast spells and/or filling out of lengthy legal forms.

Of course it could just be "go about your business". With Paizo you never know. :)

Of course it could be some sort of point accumulation or be discovered mechanism. With the subtlety shown by this party we will have the whole island on us in no time. Of course that means more combat and less talking so I am good with it.

Shadow Lodge

Table Maps | Passing the Torch | Slaver's End

I'm sure I have no idea what you mean. :)

I do apologize for the slow start. I should be able to consistently move us along now that I'm free from distracting travel for a few months.

I am just wondering if we lost our Cleric or not. Is Kasimir still in the house? :)

Shadow Lodge

Table Maps | Passing the Torch | Slaver's End

I think he only comes to the forums for PbP, so he might not have checked in recently.

Dark Archive

Cleric 13 | HP:120/120 | AC: 25/ FF 23/ T 14 | Fort: +16 Ref: +11 Will: +19 | Perception: +20| Init: +4

Hey, I’m here now. Wasn’t sure this would actually come off.

Glad to see that everyone was able to make it back.

I am sort of surprised that the rest of the party decided to actually go through customs. :)

Dark Archive

Cleric 13 | HP:120/120 | AC: 25/ FF 23/ T 14 | Fort: +16 Ref: +11 Will: +19 | Perception: +20| Init: +4

If Hamish is willing to do the talking, Kasimir will accept Osprey shape.

What is the plan here? In character it make sense to have only one character (max two) play out the social encounter but I understand that this is a game where players want to participate. Who feels the need to participate even if it makes no in-game sense at least in the terms of mission completion?

Who do people think should be doing the talking and who should be hanging back (even in hawk form if desired)?

Dark Archive

Cleric 13 | HP:120/120 | AC: 25/ FF 23/ T 14 | Fort: +16 Ref: +11 Will: +19 | Perception: +20| Init: +4

My new plan is to let Hamish speak. He seems to have a gift for it, proven by the fact that his madness has not killed him yet ;)

Hamish, you are correct. The Seaward Gull was transformed into a hawk as well.

Liberty's Edge

CG Half-Elf Summoner 12 ( HP 87/87 | AC 14 (T12, FF12) | CMD 22 | Fort +11, Ref +11, Will +14 | Init +4 | Perception +1 | Speed 30 | 1st - 5/7, 2nd - 6/7, 3rd - 5/6, 4th - 4/5 | SM VI - 10/10 | Buffs: over. flight, delay poison, life bubble )
Seaward Gull:
( HP 85/85 | AC 41 (T12, FF39) | CMD 36 | Fort +9, Ref +9 (evasion), Will +5 | Init +4 | Perception +20 | Speed 40 | Buffs: mage armor (12 hrs), barkskin (2 hrs), shield, evolution surge, life bubble, delay poison )

Hamish has a gift for making stuff up... dunno if that translates entirely =)

I mentioned this before to you guys but we can travel back and forth to Absalom (or pretty well anywhere else with some vegetation) if we need to with my characters Walk the Lines ability.

It may or may not be useful in this case but it is an option.

Shadow Lodge

Table Maps | Passing the Torch | Slaver's End

Campaign and map slides are updated! Please fill out your character info on slide 2 when you have a chance.

@Grandmaster TOZ

1) I do not see a map. Is there a map to see?

2) How long has it been in game since we left the ship (in hours)? This is for tracking buffs.

3)Would you please copy & paste the tokens for my familiar and myself to the 2nd slide?

Thanks.

Shadow Lodge

Table Maps | Passing the Torch | Slaver's End

I could put up a map of the city, but otherwise there is no map. I would estimate it took maybe half an hour to reach the party, between sitting down and discussing strategy at the pub, to reconning the party site for alternate access, and then flying in. Where are your tokens now?

@Grandmaster TOZ

In terms of the tokens do people generally copy and paste their image of their character from this website into the Google slides?

Is this even alright to do? I am very new here in terms of PbP.

Shadow Lodge

Table Maps | Passing the Torch | Slaver's End

As far as I know all of their avatars fall under community use, so it shouldn’t be a problem. I will copy yours over when I get the chance tonight. I generally leave it up to the players if they want to use the same for easy IDing or if they have another image they prefer.

@Grandmaster TOZ - This is good. Unlike my characters I like to do things the right way. Thanks.

I thought to send Crazy Hairy in with Hamish as he actually knows something about something as opposed to Hamish who can only pretend to know something about everything. Crazy where are you? ;)

@Hamish: Great story btw. No one will ever doubt that you are foolhardy sea captain. It might not be what the ladies are looking for however.

Captain O'Toole is always what the ladies are looking for! =)

Can one of the others K:local that 'Claws of Achaekek' name? That seems to be the lead we're after... since they likely took Strake's brain, and Strake likely knows where the gnome lady is, yes?

@Hamish- I was thinking of coming down with Whisper to help out with the Knowledge checks. If your characters starts "knowing" things it will totally blow his cover.

@Hamish - I don't think the Claws of Achaekek is a person but rather a cult of assassins dedicated to that deity. Yes. If you reread the text Luna told you this directly but this is before the consumption of how many rums. :)

Hey, more birds make more conversation pieces!

Though he might have to make up a story. =)

Some sort of religious assassin cult sounds about right. Now we have to find the Pagoda this critter thing is Master of.

I am just wondering if spell effects like Detect Magic cast in animal forms are detectable as a magical effect? Clearly people could see a bird chirping and moving about with a spell cast with Natural Spell which would look like normal animal behavior but is the actual spell detectable?

Liberty's Edge

CG Half-Elf Summoner 12 ( HP 87/87 | AC 14 (T12, FF12) | CMD 22 | Fort +11, Ref +11, Will +14 | Init +4 | Perception +1 | Speed 30 | 1st - 5/7, 2nd - 6/7, 3rd - 5/6, 4th - 4/5 | SM VI - 10/10 | Buffs: over. flight, delay poison, life bubble )

All spells cast have noticeable magical effects.

Shadow Lodge

Table Maps | Passing the Torch | Slaver's End

As Hamish mentioned, despite what was thought before the FAQ, Paizo has clarified that there are noticeable signs of spellcasting even without verbal or somatic components. So casting detect magic would be noticeable.

Of course, anyone with arcane sight has already noticed the polymorph aura on you all, to say nothing of the rest of your buffs.

^ Arcane Sight is 1 minute/level. Generally something you cannot have up all the time.

I have no doubt that our party will be discovered sooner or latter. However by who and when is the real question.

Shadow Lodge

Table Maps | Passing the Torch | Slaver's End

Some creatures have constant spells. ;)

^If we can't sneak past it we will just have to kill it. Society might not be good at subtlety but they are excellent at being murder hobos. ;)

I am pretty confident that if they people were hostile towards our party they would have attacked already.

Shadow Lodge

Table Maps | Passing the Torch | Slaver's End

Who you tellin'? :P

^Nobody. This is an OOC conversation with the GM. Remember. ;)

This Arcane Sight idea was yours to begin with anyways.

Whisper softly wrote:

Now to get to some answers if we can with some skill rolls.

1) Would a KS:Arcana or Heal check help to determine the nature of Stanton's condition and more importantly how to reverse it? Would curative magic (like Heal or Restoration help)?
2)The nature and current home base of the Claws of Achaekek? Would this be KS-Religion or KS-Local?
3)Information about the Master of Pagoda. Would this be KS-Religion or KS-Planes?

1) Crazy already has this information, but yes.

2) No roll needed, it's DC10 to recognize that the Pagoda of the Red Mantis is the only temple in town. The Claws sound like elite members of the Red Mantis Assassins.

3) From the information gathered by Crazy and Hamish, the party can now roll Knowledge Dungeoneering to identify the creature responsible.

Ok I think that we have enough information to go on to stage a rescue-attack on the temple. It is reasonable to assume that the real "Stanton" is a prisoner held captive in the temple. Why would they let him go back to being a cobbler in Absalom?

Perhaps we should have a quick party confab and then decide if we would like to ask any of these people to help rescue the real Stanton or not. Perhaps they might be able to provide magical aid?

Aye, time to move on... felt a little wierd hogging all the action there. 8P
Time to let everyone else join back in.

Though, a hard pass on getting any of the locals involved! This place is full of Red Mantis spies and informers. I'm still trying to figure out how Crazy and Hamish are going to get to this Pagoda. Everyone else is still a convenient bird!

@Hamish - Not to worry. My character is packed full to the gills in utility transportation for the party. I see trees/bushes of a decent size right near/inside the Pagoda picture. My character can teleport the party from vegetation outside the city right up to the Pagoda.

@Grandmaster TOZ - Is there suitable vegetation (Medium size or larger) near or preferably just inside the Pagoda? It is showing up in the picture but I don't know if it is in the map as well.

Shadow Lodge

Table Maps | Passing the Torch | Slaver's End

You did see that, but you have the same problem here: Getting away from Strake's to suitable vegetation to make the jump. I suppose the garden inside is suitable, but also right in the middle of the party.

Liberty's Edge

CG Half-Elf Summoner 12 ( HP 87/87 | AC 14 (T12, FF12) | CMD 22 | Fort +11, Ref +11, Will +14 | Init +4 | Perception +1 | Speed 30 | 1st - 5/7, 2nd - 6/7, 3rd - 5/6, 4th - 4/5 | SM VI - 10/10 | Buffs: over. flight, delay poison, life bubble )

getting away from the party is not the issue... we can just stroll out I'd think.

Its the working our way through town that happens afterwards... that sounded complicated

Of course, now that I ponder it... it'd be a heck of an exit, to poof in the middle of the party! Hamish does like to leave an impression =)

(though perferably not 'into' the pagoda... but just outside, so we can toss a buff or two.)

Shadow Lodge

Table Maps | Passing the Torch | Slaver's End

If that's the path you guys want to take, I can roll with it! :)

I would be doing any buffing before a teleport. Once you are there things tend to happen fast.

My character can only teleport himself and four other people at a time. This is a consideration if we find ourselves in combat immediately.

@Grandmaster TOZ - I think we may be doing a modified version of this plan. I am still working out the details.

My idea is

1) Share information on what we have discovered in-character via Message.

2) Have our group move away from the party so we can do some buffing.

3) Characters that are birds can fly over to the pagoda. My character can lead as his survival is good. He will then Teleport back with Whisper to transport at least himself, Whisper, Crazy Hairy and Hamish inside the pagoda.

If anyone has anything that they need to do first or suggestions now would be a good time.

Shadow Lodge

Table Maps | Passing the Torch | Slaver's End

I have a Roll20 game tonight, but I will try to have an update done before or after it, once you guys are cool with the plan.

@Grandmaster TOZ - I have been a little reticent to playing online via Roll20/Discord. How do you find it compared to playing live?

Shadow Lodge

Table Maps | Passing the Torch | Slaver's End

It's a different format, not better, not worst. Better at some things, worse at other. One thing I have to watch is that it is easier to read from the scenario/adventure because you don't have players to maintain eye contact with, so you have to work on that skill extra when you do play in person. I miss some of the expressions and visual reactions that my friends make at story revelations, but the audible reactions to map changes or when the players reach the critical information in a handout can be just as satisfying.
