Andoldir's acid flask finishes off the remaining spiders in the red swarm.
The other swarm nearly completly burns away before the splash from Shayna's vial kills the last of them.

Angoldir kneels down next to the young Pathfinder. "My recklessness nearly killed you - it is fitting that I get you back on your feet as well." He tips the contents of a flask down Khoda's throat, holding the human's head steady as he waits for the potion to take effect.

Khoda groans as heclimbs to his knees, "These ol' bones don't move the way they used to." Khoda offers his hand to Angoldir, partly in a gesture of good will, partly in need of help getting to his feet.
"You here the stories as a boy about heroes narrowly escaping big explosions. Never thought I'd get the chance to do the same...and bungle it."

When you travel east from the sewer junction, you soon reach another intersection where a minor sewer line flows into the main line from the south. Graffiti covers much of the walls here, most of it simple drawings. Prominent among them is a large stylized drawing of a wyvern in shiny gray paint (signifying that the Steel Wyvern’s claim this territory). Also among them is an image of a skull crawling with bugs and an arrow pointing back to the west (a warning about the dangerous insects at the previous junction), and a representation of a beggar’s bowl holding a coin and a key with an arrow pointing to the south. Underneath the picture of the bowl is the word “Almsman.”
Andolyn Featheredbow |
Reflex: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (17) + 6 = 23
Andolyn immediately stops raging once that battle's over.
"I'm guessing the way through is to give some beggar some money. Stupid beggars. All of 'em deserve to be burning for eternit....oh. Sorry. Wrong company." Andolyn sheepishly stops talking, waiting for others to pipe up.
Nali Faina |
I have no issue with being a wand caddy for the run. Happens to anyone with the skill.
Nali silently pulls her own wand out and taps herself a couple times before preparing to continue on. "What's past is past. It was simple mistake done in eagerness. We go on." She offers to use anyone's wand if they request it, however.
CLW: 2d8 + 2 ⇒ (3, 8) + 2 = 13

Nali shoots an annoyed glare at the unsympathetic Grey Maiden, but says nothing about the harsh comment. She instead looks at the graffiti and immediately heads down the south passage. "Almsman was our lead, so we go that way." She pauses a moment, before adding, "Is key for Abadar?"
Angoldir |
”That is indeed one of Abadar’s common representations,” Angoldir responds slowly. ”Or perhaps it has something to do with the portal mentioned by our supposed prince? Either way, our path forward is clear.”
Vote to head down path marked with Almsman signage.

Ahead a faint light glimmers in the dark. Slowly it resolves into a crude lantern held by a toothless old beggar who holds a chair leg in his other hand. Beside him stands a scrawny youth, similarly armed but obviously terrified. Behind the two derelicts is an open door bearing the symbol of the beggar’s bowl, coin, and key.
The old man eyes you warily as you approach, “If yer intentions be peaceful, Abadar makes you welcome.”
Khoda Issad |
Khoda takes a step forward, his eyes passing over the youth before landing on the beggar.
"We've come looking for the Almsman. We believe he may be able to us help someone else.' Khoda produces a gold piece and holds it out for either of the pair to take, "Might you be able to lead us to him, friend?"
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (18) + 9 = 27
000dafi03 |
"Why, yes, of course! Come on in." the older man says as he instructs the younger one to open the door.
Beyond the door, a short flight of steps leads up into what appears to be the basement crypt of a church of Abadar. Perhaps two dozen beggars huddle among sarcophagi, some sleeping, some haggling over bits of junk or scraps of food laid out on blankets.
A tall man in clean robes wearing a plain copper mask walks among them. As you enter he regards you coolly and says, “If you respect this sanctuary, I offer you what sanctuary I can. Otherwise, begone!”
Andolyn Featheredbow |
If this was Cheliax, I'd be forced to kill all of these people. Squatters, the lot of 'em
Andolyn stays quiet for fear of, well, 'disrespecting' the sanctuary.
Andolyn Featheredbow Social ID |
However, as Andolyn takes off her helm, her disposition to the entire world changes. Her face bears a deep, gnarly scar and a cleft upper lip.
"We have an...interesting situation. Where is this Almsman?"
Obligatory warning to the party. If combat breaks out while I'm in my social identity, I must roll a will save. Failure on the will save says I immediately find a safe place to begin changing to my vigilante identity, which takes 1 minute. The further along I get in the build, the less of an issue this is, but it's still a thing to make the party aware of
000dafi03 |
"I know where the Almsman is, what do you need of him?" the man replies to Andolyn.
That statement is truthful, but you feel like its not the whole truth either.
Shayna Therinor |
sense motive: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (14) + 1 = 15
Shayna's eyes narrow a bit as the man answers Andolyn.
I assure you, my good sir..we are not here to cause trouble. We come seeking the Almsman for valid reason...it involves his family.
000dafi03 |
"I'm not aware of the Almsman having any family members. I suggest you tell me what you are really doing here." the masked man says.
Shayna Therinor |
My apologies...I misspoke...my head is still spinning from earlier...got knocked around a bit. We are seeking information about a man who may have travelled through these parts. derp...had a massive brain cramp..don't know what the heck i was thinking...gotta lay off the funny pills for a while...lol..jk...more caffeine needed
000dafi03 |
"Lots of people pass through here, I might know of them, or I might not...Tell you what, give this place a hand and I'll help you out. The Steel Wyverns have been constantly increasing the cost of their 'protection', and I can no longer afford it. In about two hours, they are going to come around again, and find this out. They promised me that they would destroy this temple and kill everyone here if I didn't pay up, but that's not an option." The masked man says before stopping anyone reaching for their coin purse, "Don't try to pay the difference, thats not the point. They are just going to keep raising it over and over, making this happen again anyway. No, I need you to scare them off when they come back. If you do that, I'll consider you friends of this temple and give any aid you need."
Angoldir |
”Given that you have already cowed them once before, it should not be an impossible task,” Angoldir remarks calmly to Shayna. ”Andolyn, it sounds like you may wish to don your armor once more.”
Sounds like a fair deal to me - though Angoldir is much more helpful with being diplomatic than scary.
Shayna Therinor |
See? Sometimes being nasty can work for you...that will doubtless give us an edge against them. You have yourself a deal, my good man. I will try my best not to hurt them...but if they have a bit more spine this time, I'll hold back a bit...but not if someone's life is in danger...
Nali Faina |
Nali listens to the discussion as she looks around the crypt. "Will all these people be here for attack?" she asks at the next lull in the conversation. "Alot of people to protect. May reach need to kill quickly. Still, I can try to not kill first. "
Can we get a map, so we can plot our defense?
000dafi03 |
"There is no where else for these people to go, some are sick, some are injured, but for many of them, this is their home, at least for now." the masked man replies to Nali
Among the residents of the sanctuary are three beggars who contracted filth fever and now rest on blankets in one corner. One of the afflicted beggars is an Osirian named Pteliut who has tattoos of a shepherd’s crook on his right wrist and a threshing flail on his left wrist. The others are native Andorens named Ebram and Fandos.
000dafi03 |
You have 2 hours to prepare for the arrival of the Steel Wyverns, whether you're preparing a horror scene or a fortified position is up to you. Any spellcasting can be done right before they arrive, but there is a 1d10 minute variable of them arriving later or early than exactly 2 hours.
Shayna Therinor |
Here's my idea...Set up a trip line, just so we czn hearcthem right before they get here....maybe...worth a shot. fortify a spot with the wounded/sick behind it...and I'll sharpen my fakcata with my whetstone.. +1 damage on first hit...also...set up a kill pocket...flank the entrance...easy picking...maybe...lol
Angoldir |
”If a tripline is what you wish for, we’ll need to funnel any visitors past a single point,” Angoldir points out as he sits cross-legged on the ground, mixing various powders together in flasks. ”Blocking part of the doorway might be the most expeditious method for accomplishing this, but we do not wish to trap the residents. I will investigate the feasibility of this option in a minute.”
———————————————
Rising to his feet, the elf passes out several bottles to his companions. ”Andolyn, this will increase your size. Khoda, this will augment your shield. Now, let me look at that door...”
Knowledge (engineering), Inspiration: 1d20 + 8 + 1d6 ⇒ (12) + 8 + (6) = 26
Andolyn, that’s an extract of enlarge person. Khoda, you got shield. Angoldir also has an extract of see invisibility he’ll use when the two hours are nearly up. GM, anything in the room’s architecture that could be useful?
000dafi03 |
You could potentially use the sarcophagi in some fashion, but other than that, no, not really.
Khoda Issad |
Looking at the map, the sarcophagi were my first idea. Then kept reading and realized I'm not special.
"These Steel Wyverns are proving to be worse than I initially thought."
Khoda takes the extract and tucks it into a side pouch is his pack for later use, "Thank you. I'll make sure to put it to good use. I agree that if we could create some sort of barricade we might be able to buy some time with ranged weaponry. Maybe even give these scum enough trouble that they turn away before making inside the sanctuary."
Khoda pulls a vial of bubbling fluid acid flask from his pack, "I can use my bow and I have two of these. But I admit that I am much better with the blade."
Nali Faina |
"Setting ambush...," Nali says as she sets her bag on the ground and begins rummaging through it. "What if we set people on both sides of door and strike as Wyverns enter?"
After a moment longer, she comes out with two sets of six arrows each. "If you are good with bow, I can offer these," She lifts one set, "These don't do damage, but impede foes.... tanglefoot? I have used to great effect to rescue Pathfinder ally from city of lies," She pauses to think about the name, "Ostenso? That sounds right." She shrugs and lifts the other set. "These are from home. These burn as they sit in wounds, and tear if you try to remove. Freely offer for this fight. I will be in back with bow. Please make sure I have means to shoot foes?"
For reference, Tangleshot arrows and Thistle Arrows.
Khoda Issad |
Khoda hesitates before accepting the arrows, "I will do my best to put them to good use. Unless, someone else might prefer these?" He slips the arrows into his quiver and sets about helping the others prepare.
Tripline? I can offer a rope. Moving sarcophagus? I can offer muscle.
Angoldir |
Angoldir has a longbow, but he’s more useful up front where he can Aid and flank (+4 and +2 bonuses respectively). Alas, he is not strong enough to be of much use in moving the sarcophagi. But even getting one in place to block half the door would give us a lovely bottleneck.
Shayna Therinor |
Okay then..let's move this thing in to the doorway...Shayna says, cracking her knuckles before shoving as hard as she could.
I wish my uncle Doran was here...he'd move this into place all by himself, the big lug. Now then...places, everybody.
I'll take up the one side...move the sarcophagus to cover the right side of the double door...if someone gets opposite of me we got them in a pinch
Andolyn Featheredbow Social ID |
"My last name came merely from my father, who received his name from his half-elf father before him. I am no good with a bow. I am MUCH better with the longsword and shield. I received years of training in the weapons of my sisters-in-arms. The bow was only a small portion of that. If you're in need of muscle, I'll put the helmet back on and follow my orders. If you're in need of somebody who can think for themselves, I'll go ahead and keep my helmet off. If push comes to shove, though, you'll most certainly all prefer if the helmet goes back on sooner rather than later. I get....flashbacks."
Wherever the more tactically minded of you wish for a big piece of meat with decent damage output and the ability to tank (via Bodyguard and Saving Shield) to be, Andolyn will put back on the helmet and throw ethics out the window again!
000dafi03 |
Alright, lets get organized here to hopefully get this underway!
2 Hour Activities:
Andolyn:
Shayna: Moving a sarcophagus / Setting a tripline?
Angoldir:
Khoda: Moving a sarcophagus
Nali:
Final Position:
Andolyn: Middle of the fight for bodyguard
Shayna: One side?
Angoldir: Melee area in general to flank. Drinking some buffs before fight
Khoda:
Nali: In the back to shoot with bow
Angoldir |
Angoldir suggests a place for the sarcophagus as he mixes another extract. ”If we place it there, on the stairs, it will be quite effective. Shayna, if you would like to pass me your rope, I will see what I can do to trip these gang members as they enter.”
Craft (trap), Crafter’s Fortune, Take 10: 10 + 4 + 5 = 19 (assuming Taking 10 is allowed here)
I’ve put a darker-grey block where I’d suggest the sarcophagus to be placed and put Angoldir’s token in the appropriate flanking position. I would suggest we use the tripwire on the two squares of stairs, since (as far as we know), our opponents will have to enter that way.
000dafi03 |
Alright, trip wire stats determined, sarcophagus placed, please place your tokens in their positions before the enemies arrive. Also, it sounds like you're just going to immediately attack them based on the current plan.
Khoda Issad |
Khoda is in position with his shortbow. Though I imagine he'll drop it rather quickly in favor of the sword. Normally Khoda would be all for negotiations but it seems as though that has been tried and has failed.
Andolyn Featheredbow |
"We have been asked to kill them. Negotiating is not an option. Kill them we shall."
Andolyn is where she wants to be
000dafi03 |
Well, it doesn't seem like the variable 1d10 minutes will make a difference, so lets just call it exactly two hours later.
Just before the Wyverns arrive, the masked man gives you 2 vials of oil of bless weapon and a packet of dust of appearance. "Here, this is all the aid I can give you in exchange for your help. If you require healing, I can heal small wounds for twenty gold...I'd do it for free, but then Abadar would be furious with me."
Laughter and footsteps can be heard approaching from the west. A voice calls out “Almsman! What say you? Are you resisting or giving us what we want? I hope you’re resisting!”
Combat Post Coming Soon. Don't have quite enough time to get started right now.

His swordcane unsheathed, Angoldir waits patiently for one of the ruffians to step between him and Shayna. "Andolyn, do not forget about the potion I prepared for you," he comments calmly to his companion. "You either, Khoda."
As a reminder, Angoldir gave Andolyn an extract of enlarge person and Khoda an extract of shield before the gang members arrived.
Excellent. Shayna gains a +4 aid bonus to her next attack as well as a +2 bonus from flanking.

Well, at least these readied actions will help move around these solo turns in the order.
Another Wyvern comes into the room, this time attempting to jump over the trip line.
acrobatics: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (3) + 7 = 10 I'd say 2.5ft up is probably enough. In my head, a trip line probably wouldn't be higher than half of a square (5ft).
With flanking and Angoldir's aid, Andoyln smacks the Wyvern as he enters the room.
Roll damage
Assuming he stays standing, he swings right back at Andolyn with his spiked chain, but she easily blocks it with her shield.
