SURPRISE
Darry said; "sounds like people in the shrine.. nothing from the storage shed... Loose your arrows when i get close." He offered nodding to the others and setting his lance kneeing his mount forward.
Quickly, Darry’s mount charged around the corner and up onto the deck to slam his lance into the startled wolf for moderate damage.
.
Sor shrugged at Big John.
When the halfling charged, Sor sighed in frustration at his impulsive, loud charge. He lets an arrow loose, but missed wide.
.
Elandra crouch walks as she moves forward, keeping her profile low.
She then whispers "Nobody in the shed, lots of noises from the main building though, not sure if friend or foe."
.
As they approach the shrine, Faerieth unslung her staff from her back, keeping it in a ready position in case of danger.
A sad expression crosses her face as she sees the body being savaged by what appears to be a wolf. ”Poor Noelan, he’s…he was the caretaker here.” she whispers.
”Sounds like a number of people inside, a lot of noise and movement….maybe a fight.” she continues, trailing off as Darry charges the wolf suddenly.
.
Yaron follows quietly, his bow readied, then raises it as the halfling starts his charge... waiting for the right moment to fire.
.
Arlen puts some space between himself and the wolf as he prepares to line up a shot. Once in position, he whistles for Russet.
When the fight starts, he fires an arrow, but missed wide.
Russet gallops around the outbuilding to Arlen's side.
.
Hearing that there may be villagers in peril, John goes directly to the door closest to him on the main structure. He tries the door, finding it unlocked. He will opens it quietly...
.
Elandra takes up a covering position behind the smaller out building with her longbow drawn.
.
Darry's mount helps to finish off the wolf on the porch.
A closer look at its visible ribs tells anyone with any Knowledge:Nature that this wolf had been deliberately starved to make it more ferocious in battle, but less robust in taking injuries.

The interior is still lit by divine Continual Light spells set for the Festival, but they reveal a horrible sight.
Wooden statues of both Erastil and Desna—both now chopped and marred by hobgoblin weapons—stand in their own alcoves in the northwest end of the shrine, while alcoves on either side serve as general shrines to
the variety of other gods and spirits worshiped by the locals.
.
A dozen human bodies lie scattered across the floor and pews, and have been left to rot as invaders go about tearing apart the building.
.
The four ironfang soldiers turn and look at Big John with amazement, diverted from their looting.

Big John
A lump rises up into Big John’s throat and tears well up, his throat threatens to constrict. Raw memories and images break free from the deep recesses of his mind. A small child’s scream that no one else can hear reaches John’s ear.
Que up Bodies, by Drowning Pool!
John releases his demons. . .
Forgoing defense for raw brutal destruction, John flies in charging with his heavy flail rattling and whistling as he swings it with as much force as the man can muster. The leering face on its coldiron head seeks bloody vengeance!

Sor slips in, trying not to be noticed, and lets an arrow fly at one of the hobgoblins in the south eastern corner.
With the other hobgoblins distracted by Big John or an Eagle in their face, Sor slips an arrow into Recruit 3’s ribcage for significant damage.

He rushes into the chapel, raising his bow as he does, but curses when he sees that all the targets are engaged in melee with his allies... It's too crowded in here..., he thinks, and instead closes his eyes, reaching for his centre before starting to chuckle and calling out,

He'd snarl and bite,
But he couldn't quite fight,
And instead, he ended up dead..."

He plants his foot and rips upwards, the hammer forged links of his flail snapping with the strain as the leering face barrels towards its next victim.

Out of the corner of his eye he saw the elf fellow take a wicked looking cut from one of the hobgoblins and go down and his blood ran cold. Too many were falling all about them. His fear level raised again.

Yaron stops slinging jokes with a sigh, surveying the damage, then looking at the fallen... Cutting down civilians while they preyed.. just the kind of cruelty I've come to expect from hobgoblins...
He takes a breath and says, "Ok, let's search quickly... I don't know enough about this town, but part of me would almost want to start a fire and have this shrine be the pyre for these folk. I hate the idea of leaving them here to rot... or feed whatever beasts the hobbies have with them."

He let loose a sharp whistle at Sebastion to let him know to cease the pulling with all the hobgoblins down. He hustled to Sor first to see if the elf was alright, he didnt seem to be bleeding so he nodded to no one.
"I believe he's still alive, though in need of some sort of magic healing. Anyone have anything?"
He asked as he moved about the room looking at the fallen, the shrine just the state of everything. He couldnt help it, his eyes automatically searched for smallish halfling forms.
"That amulet there belongs to Lirosa. Thinks leaving it here while they are in town is lucky or recharges it or something... We should take it in case we run across them. I can't believe im saying this but i think you are right there uh friend. I dont like the idea of burning the bodies but i like the idea of those bastard hobgoblins feeding them to their animals even less."
He paused eyeing Arlen his eyes widening.
"Hey! uh... Rynah! Faerieth! He's still alive i think but man does he look bad!"
He called out rushing to the man's side and well hovering in a bit of a panic.
Here's to hoping someone gets to Arlen soon . >.<

Elandra shakes her head "Quit messing around with the bandages, feed him this."
Elandra will take one of the CLW potions found on the hobgoblin and feed it too Arlen.

”All is forgiven Rhyna. And be proud of yourself for raising your fist and leading. Now, arm yourselves! We have much work to do. Do you know who is on the shed?”
Big John
”That Arlen Fellow is stout. Grab that great bow and arrows and place it with him. Once he is healed he can take it up in our defense.”
Big John sounds like an old military hand. He avoids looking at those at his feet.
”You can get them out of here.”
He mutters to himself, but is overheard by Faerith.
The big man’s hands and lips tremble in the slightest.
Arlen Ducote
Arlen coughs and sputters as the option goes down his throat. "Thank you. Is the other one okay?" He looks around for the elf he had moved to save. He takes a moment to catch his breath.

"This is exactly the kind of thing we came here for. Can anyone tell what this wand and amulet do?"
46 charges at CL3! We're saved! Sor and Arlen are both still hurt. We should probably give them a few taps.
Then he picks over the gear, commenting on a few items.
"This is a well crafted axe." He picks up the scout's axe, feeling the heft and balance. "Would one of you be taking it?" I will take the mwk battleaxe for now if no one else wants it. Someone who fights primarily in melee should have priority though
big John should probably have the last CLW potion from this loot, to have a available the next time he takes damage
Having now caught his breath, Arlen surveys the scene. His sense of urgency snaps back into him. "Yes, we should burn the shrine once we take care of that shed. The god knows we mean no disrespect; it is better than whatever further defacing the hobbies have in store for it."
He addresses the townsfolk "We're going to see to this shed. Head to the rendezvous point now; we will meet you there. Try to stay hidden."
did we say what the rendezvous point was?
Arlen then leads the way out to the shed, Russet close behind "Follow me, anyone ready to fight. Let's be on our guard..." He positions Russet on the right side of the shed door with himself a few feet away, newfound bow drawn and arrow nocked.
can someone move Arlen and Russet over to the shed? Russet should be beside the door so someone else can open it. Arlen will be 5 feet away from the door positioned to shoot inside it
Faerieth
As the last hobgoblin falls, Faerith nods in approval as Elandra feeds the potions from the scout to both of the fallen men. Joining in the search of the altar, she breathes a sigh of relief at the cache of items and provisions, especially the healing wand.

"Wait a moment and I'll finish healing you. Who knows what night be lurking out there." she says moving to the injured defenders and using the wand on each of them in turn.
