Go ahead.
And in Gameplay Thurl can stand in front. That's what your PC would do, Brag ain't a frontliner.
Bragoleb |
Why is it that when the GM rolls initiative Thurl is almost always going last or near last. We usually need his bonuses and we can't get them for a round or two (surprise round) and can't delay for fear of dying unexpectedly. Just wondering why the dice seem to be against us in this way.
Thurl Wisdombringer |
Yeah, it sucks...also, Lem and Arbaro won’t get the bonus until we are in hearing range.
Thurl Wisdombringer |
Also, Dire Panda is one of the best things ever!...At least until we actually have to fight it...
Bragoleb |
I would like to voice a complaint about the name of one of the Feats I use regularly. It is called "Deadly Aim." It's purpose is to at a +4 bonus to damage from ranged attacks (bow/arrow in my case). But to get this bonus requires a -2 non-bonus to that attack roll. Yet, it is called "Deadly Aim." The name doesn't really fit. If I'm aiming better shouldn't it give me a plus on attack rather than a minus? Just sayin'.
The feat should be renamed to "Deadly Strike" or "Deadly Hit" or something.
Thurl Wisdombringer |
Maybe it allows you to aim at a smaller spot that is harder to hit but causes more damage when successful?
That said, I get the criticism.
GM Mervikoth |
How about Ranged Power Attack? Power Shoot?
I think you're aiming to kill, like a head shot, and therefore it's harder to hit but you do more damage, like Thurl says.
Thurl Wisdombringer |
I did some rage hit points research.
The increase to Constitution grants the barbarian 2 hit points per Hit Dice, but these disappear when the rage ends and are not lost first like temporary hit points.
In addition, she takes a –2 penalty to Armor Class. She also gains 2 temporary hit points per Hit Die. These temporary hit points are lost first when a character takes damage, disappear when the rage ends, and are not replenished if the barbarian enters a rage again within 1 minute of her previous rage.
I had not realized this clause was different so I had been operating under the assumption that both worked by the Core Barbarian rules.
GM Mervikoth |
Yes, temporary HP makes more sense and is honestly how I've always run it in Pathfinder (mostly because I'd never read the Barbarian Rage entry and was ignorant of the actual text). Temp HP makes WAY more sense than a fluctuating HP total. If Lem were a Core Barbarian, his regular HP total at this time would go down 14 HP, but his damage would NOT, meaning he is essentially takes an additional 14 damage to his regular HP totals. Not very fun, and not very logical.
Lem Helbling |
well, either way knock out that lucky archer quickly!
I'd used the unchained when figuring out how rage worked but I see titan mauler replaced trap sense and unchained barbs get "danger sense."
I'm ok with it either way, I don't mind death, but still having fun with lem if its not his time. Also, I had no idea barbs get +2 for will saves when enraged... huh.
GM Mervikoth |
Yeah little fiddly things like that are okay to replace with regards to Unchained classes. They're essentially the same thing. There's a cool Monk archetype (far strike monk) that replaces Flurry of Blows with what I call Flurry of Throws (thrown weapons, yay!) but doesn't technically work with Unchained Monk. I like thrown axes/spears/javelin characters.

I’m not liking our chances here...

I’m not liking our chances here...
We'll need a couple of critical hits quickly to make it through and some poor rolling from the GM (which rarely happens). Also, I think I forgot to add in the eaten fruit bonuses...
I did a quick search through the last few pages of posts and couldn't find (probably hidden in a spoiler) the specific bonuses for those who have eaten the fruit. Anyone remember?
Thurl Wisdombringer |
I don’t think the fruit has mattered yet. It’s just immunity to fear effects and a freedom of movement effect (short version).
GM Mervikoth |
Eaten fruit prevents paralysis, which is something ghouls can do, but I've not been rolling cause ya'll are immune now. Also the fear and movement bonuses which haven't come into play yet.
Bragoleb |
Brag unloaded everything he had on the antipaladin and it paid off with another crit and massive damage.
Now to save Lem...
Thurl Wisdombringer |
Oh yeah, also, my AC pumping paid off, also, I’m glad you have stayed in that other room so far...
Bragoleb |
Here's the list of equipment worth keeping that Bragoleb had in his possession.
Animal Companion
Shadow the Owl
Weapons:
+3 Adamantine Longbow, composite
Masterwork Adamantine Longsword (never used)
Masterwork Adamantine Morningstar (used once)
Masterwork Adamantine Dagger (lightly used)
Armor and Magical Items:
+2 Mithral Leaf Armor
Boots of Elvenkind (+5 Acrobatics)
Cloak of Elvenkind (+5 Stealth)
Bracers of Falcon's Aim (1/day - +3 Perception, +1 Ranged Attacks)
Goz Mask (A goz mask allows the wearer to see through fog, smoke, and other obscuring vapors as if they did not exist.)
Tanglefoot Bag
Bloodstone Collar (Shadow the Owl) (If a familiar wearing a bloodstone collar is reduced to fewer than 0 hit points, the familiar immediately stabilizes at –1 hit points, and any remaining damage is dealt to the familiar’s master.)
Ghoulbane Belt (The wearer gains a +2 bonus on saving throws to resist disease, paralysis, and poison. This bonus increases to +4 on saving throws to resist such effects caused by molds or slimes. Additionally, the wearer can cast a single spell from the following list as a spell-like ability once per day: neutralize poison, remove disease, or remove paralysis.)
Arrows: 5 Blunt, 5 Flight, 4 Smoke, 1 Monstrous Humanoid Bane, 1 +1
Flasks: 3 Alchemist fire, 1 Acid
Potions: 1 CLW, 1 CMW, 1 Protection from Evil, 1 Lesser Restoration, 1 Resist Energy-Fire

And other miscellaneous items that every adventurer usually carries (e.g., bedroll, rations, crowbar, torches, rope, etc.).
GM Mervikoth |
A Raise Dead spell only costs 5,450 gp to find someone to cast it for you.
Thurl Wisdombringer |
Reincarnateis even cheaper...Which would you prefer Brag? Assuming we make it out of here anyway.
Bragoleb |
Well they both have a negative effect "The subject of the spell gains two permanent negative levels when it is reincarnated/raised from the dead." (Not sure how this is done.) So, I don't know that it matters.
However, reincarnate gets a new body with only some memories intact. I'm not sure it matters. There may be other differences that I didn't consider.
GM Mervikoth |
Pathinder naming of game rules is STUPID in this instance, because a "permanent" negative level isn't actually permanent. It goes away after a few days. Or just takes a quick heal spell or something. It's far from "permanent."
Reincarnate gives you a random new race, otherwise they're the same.
Thurl Wisdombringer |
In both cases, you would need to castings of the Restoration spell, which is approximately 1000 gold each, to get rid of the negative levels.
Thurl Wisdombringer |
Brag breaths his last, "I go to find Iomadae, in whose mighty company I shall not now feel ashamed."
Great quote by the way!

Thats temporary negative levels. You get a new save to remove those each day so its probably going to only take a couple days to get rid of them. The Permanent ones only go away with Restoration (or greater restoration but its more expensive) as far as I can tell.
Negative Levels give a -1 to all Ability Checks, Attack Rolls, Combat Maneuvers, CMD, Saving Throws, and Skill Checks.
GM Mervikoth |
Oh yeah you're right. I just remembered that permanent could be removed.
Bragoleb |
Brag will accept any resurrection/raise dead/reincarnate that the party (and friends) can afford. He is at the mercy of the GM and any surviving party members. If Arbaro and Thurl don't take out the archers quickly, though, it may be a TPK. The GM doesn't roll badly during combat.
Thurl Wisdombringer |
Man, should have told Arbaro to run...I have no idea what to do. Thurl can’t really do much by himself. How high up is the second story? Those archers are rough!
Thurl Wisdombringer |
Perfect strike would have been handy to maybe take out that archer.
Arbaro Stuartavelli |
Whoops, yeah, sorry, haven't been putting in as much thought as I should. Been a busy few weeks at work.
@GM nice icon change
GM Mervikoth |
Second story is 20 feet up.
Thanks. I always change it when a PC dies. (But is this spectral hand GIVING gold to the party... or TAKING it away? OOOoooOOOoooOOOoooOOOooo!)
You can do a perfect strike and kill the first archer, no problem.
Thurl Wisdombringer |
15400 xp til next level
Bragoleb |
How convenient - a reincarnation scroll.
Can't wait to roll to see what race Brag 2.0 will be.
I'm still not exactly sure what this rule detail means. "The subject of the spell gains two permanent negative levels when it is reincarnated." And how to negate it, etc.
Thurl Wisdombringer |
The Resoration spell Removes one permanent negative level so you would need to castings of it to remove both levels.
For each negative level a creature has, it takes a cumulative -1 penalty on all ability checks, attack rolls, combat maneuver checks, combat maneuver defense, saving throws, and skill checks.
In addition, the creature reduces its current and total hit points by 5 for each negative level it possesses.
The creature is also treated as one level lower for the purpose of level dependent variables (such as spell-casting) for each negative level.
Bragoleb |
Restoration Spell
At 4th level caster, paladins may cast the Restoration Spell. And Brag is a 4th level paladin caster. Apparently, only one restoration spell per week may be used on characters who have suffered permanent negative level damage.
Thurl Wisdombringer |
It’s a 4th level spell, which paladins get access to at 14th level.
Bragoleb |

You're correct, I forgot to check the actual Paladin spell list and went with the basic math of actual level minus 3, which only starts the process. Thanks for clarifying.
Now to find a spell caster who can do this for Brag.

Then at the bottom, it says "Messageboard alias" click Edit next to Bragoleb, then click "Change" next to the picture.
Took me way too long to find that.

Yes, not an easy thing, if you don't do it very often. Thank you.
GM Mervikoth |
It ain't easy, trust me. It's also not easy to find one that's not clearly labeled, which most of them aren't.
I didn't know reincarnation increased his Charisma too, Mr. Smoldering Stare. I imagine his shirt is unbottoned all the way to his abs. LOL JK.
