The Threefold Deaths of the Venerable Theseus

Game Master Mervikoth

Two years ago the Venerable Theseus sank beneath the waves under mysterious circumstances. Once devoted to the semi-divine Theseus, the ship was destroyed in a blast of malevolent energy unlike anything seen before. Five brave souls set off from Pridon's Hearth to discover the meaning behind the haunted wreck. Things thought long buried will rise again. Friendships will be tested. The limits of body, heart, soul, and mind will be passed. One death, and even two, may not be enough.

He's both the voice of reason, and the voice of increasing our bloodlust (from his Inspire Courage). A double-edged sword indeed.

Probably not the most paladin-like thing to do, shoot first ask questions later. But, they messed with Shadow!

I would vote no because we are tracking game achievements. So, he did do better than a critical failure overall in that turn. Achievements are not die roll tracking, but results tracking. At least, that's what I think. Others can, of course, disagree.

The "mer creature" in the picture is a sahuagin.

There is NOT a giant octopus creature about to attack your ship, however.

Go for it! We have the PbP documenting everything, obviously, but that's a bit too much information to sort through all at once. Plus I love reading session reports.

DIE ROLL STATUS UPDATE
March 4, 2019 - 418 Rolls

We can all see the dice rolls tab so I won't go into a lot of detail, just some observations:

1. Roccavisk leads the pack but has only rolled 8 times. Small sample size.
2. Of the six rollers, four are doing well with more above average rolls than below average rolls.
3. The total below average rolls for all rollers is 51.2%, very close to the expected 50% and certainly tolerable. . .
4. Unless you're Lem, who has an appalling bad 62.7% below average rolls. Way worse than the 55%-60% that Alset had during Second Wave.
5. The GM is rolling a little worse than average, which is often good for the party, but not always...
6. Lem and Brag are still terrible at d6 rolls, 65.8% and 63.6% respectively.

Happy Rolling!

Temple of Theseus, Chimera Cove, Andoran | Kuthona (Dec) 22, 4719 Part Three Map: The Sexton and the Saint

Extrapolating from Arbaro's post, I'd say most all spells are known by their names. They're consistent enough across the world, and across spellcasters, that saying "He cast magic missile at me!" is a legitimate thing people would know about. Something like Power Attack, though, I'd say is more along the lines of "he swings wildly, but when he hits, it hurts." A monk's Style usage would be named, but I feel like inspire courage wouldn't. Smite evil I have no idea, I could go either way.

Male Halfling Barbarian; level 8 [Init+3 | Perc: -1 | intim:+14 | SM:+10 | F:+9 R:+5 W:+2;+2 in rage | AC: 28;-4 in rage (T:17;+4 in rage FF:25 ) | CMD:27 | Speed: 30ft(rage+10) | HP:85; Rage:14/20 rounds

Smite evil seems descriptive enough the right kind of paladin would just say he smote evil?

I took a slightly different tack when I was thinking about it. I was thinking that the more organized classes, like anything associated with a church and wizards would have an established nomenclature while the spontaneous casters would be more scattered in their naming of spells. maybe fighters and monks would have names for everything while barbarians would be less likely to have any names at all for their "moves". Just what I came up with thinking about it last night.

I try to invoke Iomedae (diety of Brag) when smiting evil. Usually it is something like this, "I call on you Iomedae to smite this evil spawn of the <location, people group, etc.> through my <weapon>."

This seems appropriate and follows the religious/organized classes thoughts that Thurl mentions above.

With Lem's unusually bad random rolls, Thurl's lack of engagement in combat, Roccavisk's penchants for casting helpful spells (mud slinging rather than damage inflicting spells), it has provided more opportunity for Brag. And he's enjoying it! But, I'm ready for A & L to bring on more heat.
