The Threefold Deaths of the Venerable Theseus

Game Master Mervikoth

Two years ago the Venerable Theseus sank beneath the waves under mysterious circumstances. Once devoted to the semi-divine Theseus, the ship was destroyed in a blast of malevolent energy unlike anything seen before. Five brave souls set off from Pridon's Hearth to discover the meaning behind the haunted wreck. Things thought long buried will rise again. Friendships will be tested. The limits of body, heart, soul, and mind will be passed. One death, and even two, may not be enough.

I was thinking about our party, and the letter "H" kept popping into my head. So here's what I came up with.

The Hammer, the Healer, the Hunter, the Homeless, and the Hero.

The Hammer is easy - Lem the Halfling.
The Healer is easy, too - Bragoleb and he's Holy.
The Hunter is Arbaro the dragon slayer and he's sorta Holy (inquisitor).
The Homeless is Roccavisk. You know she lives alone away from her people.
The Hero then must be ... Thurl. His Helpful bonuses make us way more successful that we would be otherwise. Too many times that +2 to attack has resulted in a hit when otherwise Brag would have just missed.

Hermit, perhaps?

Again, sorry for my slow slow postings. April is a busy month for us. In a few weeks things should slow down again. Also, running your own homebrew adventure is more work than I remembered, ha ha.

Regarding "Hermit": I toyed with that for a while, but R is more of an exile than a hermit so I went with homeless. Besides, being homeless is kind of her bragging point.

Regarding "Hero": I have for quite some time thought of Thurl as being similar to Sazed in the Mistborn series. He's a rebel and unique among his people as is Thurl in that he hangs out with non-dwarfs and doesn't have a beard. Sazed is a scholar, historian, and in search of religious knowledge as is Thurl. So many similarities to Sazed including this nifty title:

Hero (Mistborn Spoiler - proceed with caution):
Sazed is the Hero of the Ages in the Mistborn trilogy. Sazed thought he was a helper too, but became the ultimate HERO.

Technically, Brag doesn't know he's interested or that it could be useful. If we have the chance to burn it, I think we'll find its properties and then Thurl, Arbaro, and Brag can use more spells for 24 hours.

Your spells have the maximum possible effect.

Benefit: All variable, numeric effects of a spell modified by this feat are maximized. Saving throws and opposed rolls are not affected, nor are spells without random variables.

So instead of rolling 1d4 for your lesser restoration, it would maximize to 4 instead of rolling.

We are rolling great. The combined below average rolls sit at 48.8%.

R,T,B & GM are all under 50%.

A is at an even 50%.

Lem is quickly moving towards 50% and currently sits at 55.3%.

At 400 rolls Lem was at 62.7%. At 500 rolls he was at 60.8%. The trend is definitely downward. At this pace he'll be at 50% over the next 100 or so group rolls.

Date: March 24, 2019

Rolls are basically the same as last time at 49.0% for the party.

R, T, G, & B are below 50%. But, R is moving up at 41.7%.

A has crept up to 50.9%.

Lem is still moving downward toward average at 54.2%. This is a 1.1 drop from last time. See above. Keep moving down and join the rest of us.

Attack (49.7%) and Damage (50.8%) are essentially average.

In the last 200 rolls here's how things have changed:
1. The party average is 50.2% below avg rolls. Up from 49.0%.
2. R has moved down to 40.9% from 41.7% (still small sample size)
3. GM is under 50% the rest are over 50%, moving in the wrong direction.
4. L improved again down to 53.5% from 54.2%.
5. A continued to climb in the wrong direction moving from 50.9% to 51.6%
6. B is even with the party average at 50.2%. Also moving up, which is bad.
7. T has matched L at 53.5%.
8. Attack is at 51.0% while damage is exactly 50.0%.

B ... 276 ... 138 ... 50.0%

T .... 92 ..... 50 ..... 54.3%

Observations and Comparisons
1. It doesn't appear that the dice roller is unfair, 49.5% of all rolls are below average. This is good and acceptable.
2. The GM is still the best roller for good or bad. Best at d8. Good at d6 and d20. Not really bad at any of the others.
3. A is one below average roll from sitting at exactly 50%. He moved back to center. Bad at d20. Good at d6 and d8.
4. B is exactly at 50%. He asks the dice gods to forgive his doubts. Good at d8 and d20. Bad at d6 (see L below).
5. L has moved from frighteningly, terrible a few hundred rolls ago to within a roll or two of 50%. Way to go! At this rate you move below the GM soon. L is good at d20 and bad at d6 (see B above).
6. T has steadily moved in the wrong direction and now owns the worst, but not terrible, percentage at 54.3%. Bad at d20. Not enough other rolls to make a judgment on the non-d20s.
7. R is good at d20 and bad d4. But with only 26 total rolls, we still need more data.
8. We are really good at Diplomacy. 37 rolls only 11 below average (29.7%).
9. We are fairly good at Perception, when we remember to use it (nudge, nudge, hint, hint). 64 rolls with 26 below average (40.6%).
10. Damage is in our favor. 271 rolls with 130 on the below average side for 48.0%.
11. Our Attack rolls are tolerable, especially with the recent splurge of critical hits (9) over the last 200 rolls (A-2, B-5, L-1, G-1) . We sit at 119 out of 231 for 51.5% below average. It should be noted that over this same time we've rolled 3 minimum attacks, i.e., a 1 (A-2, B-1).
12. We are less good at Knowledge (though with +16 it rarely matters) and Sense Motive rolls. 56.5% and 55.6% below average respectively.
13. We've rolled a 1 (bad) 81 times for a 8.1%. Not sure if this is good or bad because of the complication of the multiple dice-types (d20, d10, d8, d6, etc.). Too much work to get an expected percentage.
14. We've rolled a Max 102 times for a 10.2%. This is better than the minimum 1 rolls, so I'm happy. Again, not going to figure out what we should expect here. This is good enough for me.

Sorry for the wall of text, but this is to help create a point-in-time record, which our spreadsheet will not do in its current state.
