Candi looks to see if the portrait of Iomedae shows any cleavage.

![]() |

Obsidian rips the painting off the wall to see what is behind it.

![]() |

Via the message spell he'd cast on the party before they entered the building, Slim whispers to everyone, "Seems we might be being watched. I know not the thickness of the walls, but I detected no auras of magic or evil on the other side of the spy holes... Surely, you're not going to stick your fingers in there, are you Obsidean?"

![]() |

Based on the texture on the map it looks stoney. If this is so...
Frustrated, Obsidian steps through the wall. "You will die for trying to play with my mind!"
If that is not possible...
With a loud display, Obsidian swings a large metal hammer into the wall with obvious frustration. "You will die for trying to play with my mind!"

Since Candi had gone to look at the portrait of Iomedae, I assume she's in that room, while Donna is probably still up on the table in the room with the stuffed vrock.
Looks like Obs knows how to get a party started!
Donna, keep an eye on the door to the west of you!
As soon as Obsidean does his thing, Candi would like to rage if that is possible. She'll apply resist energy (fire) and displacement to herself, but won't cast a spell.

Donna the Viper |

Donna hisses her agreement and focuses her attention on the western door.

Obsidean, since you are right in what it looks like by the artwork, and without any text stating otherwise, I'll go with it. It doesn't look like the earth glide elemental ability has much in the way of limitations, either. So...
Obsidean walks through the wall, leaving the rest of you in the room (or in the waiting room). As soon as he passes through, the muffled sounds of his cry of despair comes though the tiny holes in the wall...

Obsidean walks through the wall, to find the demon waiting for him. He catches her gaze, and is hit with an overwhelming sense of despair and forbidding doom. This demonic woman’s flesh is pale and clammy, as if her body had been drained of blood via the numerous deep, raw slashes upon her four arms. As she moves, these gashes open like mouths, displaying row upon row of razor-sharp teeth.
'Welcome, Pathfinder, to my embrace' she says, directly in Obsidean's mind.

Curious why Candi is at the bottom of the initiative order despite having rolled higher than a number of folks who are higher than her in the order. I'm not objecting or anything. I understand that it may have to do with perception or something surprise round related.

For a split second, Obsidian thinks to himself that this might have been a rash decision. He then chuckles to himself for doubting.
Though he feels staggered, he closes his eyes and attunes himself to the earth and the movements there on.
Tremorsense (I checked, thankfully it is Su) and using my internal buffer to accept a point of burn to have it last rounds per level.

Slim begins a rousing oratory that he hope's is loud enough to carry through the peepholes and inspire Obsidean as well as the rest of the team.
Then the paladin-bard casts divine favor on himself.

Projectile weapons bestow this extra damage on their ammunition, but the extra damage is dealt only if the projectile hits a target within 30 feet of you.
Slim will cease his performance and cast saving finale as an immediate action. If Slim makes his save, he will do the same thing for anyone else failing a saving throw. He has lingering performance, so the effects of dirge of doom will continue for two more rounds.

The situation -- Obsidean walked through the wall and something happened to him. The walking, and the happening was in the surprise round. Slim's action is the first in regular actions

I'm considering using the share will (Su) ability that comes with an emissary familiar, but I have a couple of quick questions first.
Candi is raging, so I think her will save should be +17, correct?
I'm pretty sure that she should also get another +2 because this is a mind-affecting effect, though I think that I discovered earlier that this isn't an enchantment spell or SLA so neither the +4 for Indomitable Will not the +1 for her Runeward Tattoo apply.
So, I think in the end, Candi's save is +19 against this effect. Is that correct?
If Candi's total Will save is +19 against this effect, then I would like to use the Share Will ability and have Candi take another saving throw in order to negate this effect on Donna, and I would use the available guidance on Candi to make it a +20.

![]() |

Sorry, one more question.
I looked back at our last encounter with a seraptis demon, and it appeared that then we had the option of closing our eyes to avoid the gaze attack. Was that not an option this time?

![]() |

You did not know what you faced in time to do that... the wall opened, and there she was.
If you would like, you can close your eyes at the end of this turn. As gaze effects happen at the beginning of the turn, you'd have to set it up the turn before.
You are correct on Candi's will save.. but this was moot in this case since Candi rolled well.
On the case of the gaze ability -- both Candi and Donna are both subject to the effect. I believe that the ability does not apply in this case. If I am missing a ruling or clarification, let's please take it to the discussion thread. Note: with the typical PbP rules, you could still use your reroll for Donna, if you have one.

Moved to discussion.

This is an advanced seraptis, which is a medium outside (chaotic, evil, demon, extraplaner). It has an ability of "compelling domination", where targets do not get a new save unless a demanded action is obviously self-destructive, and then with only a +2. They have an aura of despair, which will eventually cause individuals succumbing to it to commit suicide. It is almost completely bloodless, and as such immune bleed damage, or anything that requires blood drain to work. They are resistant to damage that is not both silver and good, immune to electricity and poision, resistant to acid, cold, and fire, as well as most magic.

This creature is an advanced seraptis, a medium outsider with the chaotic, evil, demon, and extraplaner subtypes. It has an ability called 'compelling domination'." (Targets do not get a new save unless a demanded action is obviously self-destructive, and then with only a +2.) "They have an aura of despair, which will eventually cause individuals succumbing to it to commit suicide. It's almost completely bloodless, immune to bleed damage, or anything that requires blood drain to work. They're resistant to damage that's not both silver and good, immune to electricity and poison, and resistant to acid, cold, and fire, as well as most magic."
"Smart move, Sister Ayako." Slim retrieves his own smoked goggles and dons them. Then he catches a glimpse of Obsidean. "Dude, you're looking a little rough. Gonna have to put a bag over that face." He chuckles at his own jest.
The paladin-bard maintains his rousing performance and taps the toes of his boots of speed to keep up his speed and quickness.

Sorry to be anti-climactic, but...
A team of seekers led by Jayne Munny teleports in to the Lodge and cleric of Iomedae he brings with manages to banish the demon! They apologize for not getting there sooner, but warn that Venture-Captain Jorsal has another mission for them.
In the room, you find the following note:
Colleague in arms, I send this letter in swiftness, hoping it reaches you in time. Our mutual overlords have informed me that they move to strike Mendev in a war to eclipse any before. Your efforts in Nerosyan have not gone unnoticed and I think it time you leave the shackles of your Society. I shall dispatch a runner to follow this letter, and he will lead you to me. I look forward to finally meeting you face to face, so that we might better plan our next moves.
Make haste,
-T. D.
Heal up, and then...
Smoke rises across Nerosyan as the clamor of battle dies down. Venture-Captain Jorsal stands vigil over the Woundward ramparts of the city, looking out at a black cloud that descends from the northwest. He turns and speaking with grim resolve.
“The attack within Nerosyan is defeated, but the demons have led an army from the Worldwound to our doorstep. I must move swiftly to warn the others of what is happening.
“As for your mission... Look out to the fields below—you should be able to determine the greatest threats within the enemy army. You are the most experienced Pathfinders here in Nerosyan, so I trust you to make the best decisions about where your talents should be used.”
Thousands of lesser demons hoot and cavort, while larger demons confidently stride ahead, supported by their foul kakuen-taka siege towers. An army of Mendevian crusaders rushes out to meet the host, and you can already see the lines of battle forming outside the city as the crusaders strive to keep the siege towers away from the walls.
You get a glimpse of a radiant figure surrounded by elite knights leading the charge against the demon army. This is Queen Galfrey (LG female human paladin, and the crusaders on the wall can tell you that she is the righteous queen of Mendev and has never shirked her duties on the battlefield.
You can see three possible targets to go after.
The first is Warlord Gal-Horvasch (strategic target). A massive demon that oversees troops across the battlefield, this renowned vavakia has fought in hundreds of battles against the crusaders. In past history, any time Gal-Horvasch has taken to the field, the crusaders have faltered. Not once has the beast retreated.
Next would be The Raging Ones (strategic target). A pair of nalfeshnee demons trail in the destructive wake of an angered shemhazian. The larger demon has torn a deep wound into the Mendevian defense line, and now the nalfeshnees follow, attacking retreating crusaders with glee.
Finally, you could go after the Sibilant Twins (prime target). Commanders of the ongoing siege, these two demons issue orders while battling at the forefront of the raging battle. One twin keeps the body parts of her enemies impaled on her blade, while the other twin demands lesser demons and cultists constantly clean her weapons. The two don’t coordinate their attacks.
Let me know when you are ready...

Candi clears her throat to get Jorsal's attention.
Ahem, Big J, you might want to take a gander at this note. It looks like someone inside the Society has gone all demon happy. Any idea who "T. D." is?
She turns to look out over the developing battle.
But first I guess, the Worldwound, the gift which keeps on giving. I vote for this Warlord dofus. I always like seeing the really tall ones topple over when you cut their legs out from under them.

"I vote for the Sibliant Twins, using the discordance of the enemies against themseves seems like a god way to progress this battle. Also they seem to be the primary target anyways."
After this speech Elric will cast a few spells on himself (Echolocation, Glitterdust, False Life Temporary HP: 1d10 + 10 ⇒ (10) + 10 = 20 and Hightened Awareness)
Elric will trigger the Hightened Awareness for a +4 Initiative the next time initiative is rolled.

"And delivering him a first loss should make for a very demoralizing spectacle." Ayako agrees.

Jorsal replies to Candi, "I assume this is a reference to Tancred Desimere, who has been a thorn in the side of the Pathfinder Society for some time. Please keep this to yourselves, Pathfinders, as we do not need news of this betrayal getting out at this crucial time."
Wait... Elric is glitterdusting himself?
Votes:
Warlord Gal-Horvasch: 2
Sibilant Twins: 1
Slim and Obsidean to vote

At the mention of Tancred's name, Candi smiles broadly.
Excellent! I owe that loser a right serious Calistrian-style revenge beating. Last time I saw him, he let loose a bunch of demons on this Blakros wedding where I was just trying to relax, drink some expensive booze, and get frisky with the groomsmen and bridesmaids. He and his abyssal scum really killed my buzz.

'Prime' sounds singular, as in the most critical target. But they all sound formidable, and 'strategic' indicates the other targets are important, too, the half-elf muses, stowing his smoked goggles.
Slim's a bit confused, "Anybody understand the difference between the terms 'strategic' and 'prime' targets? It sounds like the Crusaders are doomed to falter, unless we can defeat Warlord Gal-Horvasch. So he'd be an itch, I'd like to scratch. We could have the others as dessert," the paladin-bard suggests, a bit embarrassed about his mixed metaphors.
"You guys ever heard of these types of demons?" Slim pulls at his soul patch, trying to recall what he can.
Knowledge (planes) re vavakia demons, Demonic Scholar: 1d20 + 18 + 1 ⇒ (10) + 18 + 1 = 29
Knowledge (planes) re nalfeshnee demons, Demonic Scholar: 1d20 + 18 + 1 ⇒ (20) + 18 + 1 = 39
Knowledge (planes) re the Sibilant Twins demons, Demonic Scholar: 1d20 + 18 + 1 ⇒ (12) + 18 + 1 = 31
As soon as the team spots their quarry, Slim will cast good hope on the party.
