Sister Ayako |
Apologies for jumping the gun and deleting. Reiterating the boons, Student of Spells Retributive Abjuration activates to reduce the fire damage by 15 and Essential Field Agent's aegis of recovery heals the following.
2d8 + 10 ⇒ (1, 4) + 10 = 15
Priority goes to the rest of the party. If you have a reroll to spare after the rest of you are safe, I'll take it. Odds aren't great however.
1d20 ⇒ 2 Getting that out of the way since it had already been rolled.

No, Candi’s was right. 18-70=-52. But she was raging, so is at 4hp, but cannot leave rage until she heals a lot.
Slimjim Son House Shady |
Can you help me understand the AoO against Slim? Was the balor's reach greater than 20ft when Slim cast the good hope spell in his original position, before he made Ayako's bard's escape move (and ended up on the rock next to the balor)? Slim though he was safe, some 25ft+ away from the demon.
Slim would have certainly cast defensively, if he'd been aware he was within reach of the balor, based either on his earlier knowledge check or seeing it in action against his allies. Not this paladin-bard's first rodeo. Happy to roll that, if you want.
Saving finale, immediate action to reroll a failed DC33 Reflex save: 1d20 + 22 ⇒ (3) + 22 = 25
VC Shirt Reroll, +5 GM stars, DC33 Reflex: 1d20 + 22 + 5 ⇒ (18) + 22 + 5 = 45
*EDIT* He also had 5 mirror images active, cast in the last encounter, duration 11 minutes.
Venture Captain Elric |
Elric uses his coin reroll
Reflex: 1d20 + 16 + 5 ⇒ (15) + 16 + 5 = 36
Which leads Elric to be unconcious with 0HP and nonleathal damage.
The summoned creatures...
T-Rex 1: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (6) + 12 = 18
T-Rex 1: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (13) + 12 = 25
T-Rex 1: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (12) + 12 = 24
T-Rex 1: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (1) + 12 = 13
Should expire anyways before the next encounter starts.
Candi Payne |
I think Candi is in slightly better shape. She was hit three times by the balor - two non-criticals for 37 and 40 and one critical for 66. She has DR 3/-. So, she took a total of 134 damage before the balor explodes upon dying. Then she fails her save - taking 50 points of unholy damage and 20 points of fire damage, taking her total damage to 204. Her HP were 161 base, 56 additional when she's raging, and 19 temporary from the false life she cast when going into rage, for a total of 236 hp.
So, after the balor explosion, she is at 22 hp, and if she drops out of rage, she'll be at -34 hp and dead. She can then do the following:
round 2 after the balor explodes Candi swears a lot, pulls a wand of infernal healing and uses this on herself.
round 3 Candi howls about killing a balor while naked, pulls out potion of cure serous wounds and drinks that.
potion: 3d8 + 5 ⇒ (5, 2, 7) + 5 = 19
round 4 Candi marvels at Donna's survival and asks Donna if she saw Candi fight a balor naked. Candi then uses a boon from her Cosmic Captive chronicle sheet, Ranginori's Debt, in order to cast cure critical wounds on herself.
cure critical wounds: 4d8 + 9 ⇒ (1, 5, 8, 2) + 9 = 25
Candi is now at 69 hp and can safely drop out of rage, and she is at 12/42 rounds of rage spent.
round 11 The infernal healing has finished and Candi has received an addition 7 hp of healing from it. Candi is at 20/161 non-raging hit points.
Does this sound correct? Did Candi receive any damage other than the three sword hits from the balor and the explosion of the dead balor (all in round 2)?
Donna the Viper |
Donna is somewhat amazed that she survived that explosion and hisses enthusiastically about seeing a naked paladin of Calistria help kill a balor. She thinks an illuminated drawing of this should be included in any new editions of the sacred texts of the Savored Sting.
Candi Payne |
Candi looks about in wonder, amazement, and horror. She rushes to Donna and scoops her up.
Extra long soak in the baths for us after this, I think.
She gazes out over the field of battle to see how the various armies have reacted to the slaying and detonation of the balor general, and standing there stark naked, covered in Calistrian tatttos, she raises The Big Stinger over her head and yells at the top of her lungs.
Teremthel is DEAD, suckas!!
Did we end up with no one actually dying? I'm a little confused what with all the rerolls and whatnot.
Candi Payne |
GM Blake |
Once the smoke clears, Sister Ayako and Venture-Captain Elric lie charred on the ground, very little flesh not damaged by the hellfire. Candi can barely bellow out her sadness. Slimjim looks surprisingly well for having been at epicenter of the explosion.
Obsidian looks hale but the pain he has forced his body through is beginning to take its toll.
GM Blake |
Elric's battered body takes a shuttering breath.
Candi draws a wand and activates it upon herself.
Sister Ayako is dead and too far away in the action economy for anyone to retrieve a breath of life scroll, move to Ayako, and cast it. Begin knitting yourselves back together. I am still waiting on instructions regarding spellcasting services.
Venture Captain Elric |
After Elric gets at least 10 points of effective healing from Candi (or anyone else) (You can use my wands of CLW to heal me if you want): Elric will use his Wand of Infernal Healing to get himself back to full HP (-13 charges after the initial healing)
Candi Payne |
Candi moves to Elric and uses one charge of her wand of infernal healing upon him.
Slimjim Son House Shady |
(Healing math: 107-15=92; 92/11=8.36 x 2=16+1 charge; Charges expended from wand of CLW = 17. Charges remaining = 26.)
"That was interesting," Slim observes, stowing his wand, and cleaning the blood and soot off his gear with the help of a little prestidigitation.
"I certainly hope the priests get here quickly to do what they can for Sister Ayako. We'll need her."
He looks over the rest of the team amid the carnage in the crater. "Everybody else okay?"

OVERSEER ANNOUNCEMENT
The Society’s finest have dealt a great blow to the demonic generals.
As the Pathfinders defeat the beast, it explodes in a mighty blast of unholy fire 200' across. Multiple Seekers have perished, but the significance of the loss is keenly felt by the Horde as one of their generals falls.
GM Blake |
While the infernal magics work to restore Candi and Elric at the cost of a small portion of their soul, the towering blaze that followed the balor's destruction has drawn the attention of others.
The first to arrive is a paladin wearing a rainbow colored cloak and bearing the songbird of Shelyn on his breastplate. He gallops through the charred crater on a white horse, followed by three other warriors bearing the sword of Iomedae on their shields. His horse rears as he pulls it to a skidding stop before the wounded heroes.
"Ho! Warriors!" the paladin calls from behind his helm. "Can we get you on your feet again?"
This is a special dispensation from the Overseer in recognition of how boring it would be for you to concede at this point.
You may purchase--prestige or gold--one restorative spell (e.g. raise dead, heal, mass cure X wounds, restoration, etc) not buffs each for a total of five spells, none with a casting time longer than 1 minute (i.e. no true resurrection or reincarnation).
EDIT: Also, you can buy spells for someone else. I.e. your party can buy 5 spells; who pays for what and how they're distributed is up to you.
EDIT EDIT: You can also concede.
Obsidean |
Obsidian clomps up to the Paladin, melon sized pebbles cascading off of him as he walks. "It appears one of our team has expired. I would ask for someone to bring her back. She is useful."
Grandmaster TOZ |
With the familiar pop of displaced air, a blue skinned man standing as tall as Obsidian appears by the fallen Pathfinder. With a respectful bow, he reads from a scroll in his three fingered hand. "Pursuant to the contract between the deceased and the people of Magnimar, Golarion, Material Plane, et al. I am hereby authorized to dispense funds for the procurement of resurrection magic, to include raise dead, resurrection, or true resurrection, the total not to exceed 50% of the cost of said spellcasting services. This does not include any restorative spells not mentioned above, such as restoration in any of its forms. These funds are available until such services have been provided once to the Pathfinder named Ayako, of the Lantern Lodge." Finishing his reading, the outsider waits expectantly, multiple eyes regarding the party.
GM Blake |
One of the Iomedeans dismounts. She pulls out a rolled piece of parchment and quickly scribbles a list. She hands the list to the alien being. "I will need these, and then I can begin the ritual," she says.
The blue giant reads the list. He opens his extradimensional chest and retrieves several flasks bags of herbs. "Contract fulfilled," he says and vanishes.
The priestess begins to mix the herbs and oils to prepare Ayako's body for acceptance of its departed soul's return.
Slimjim Son House Shady |
Slim acknowledges the fellow paladin of Shelyn. "Sup, Bro'. Got a Sister here, needs some help glueing her soul back in her body. Can you hook her up?"
He hooks a thumb at the kineticist. "Said he'd cover your expenses. Let me know if it's not enough."
Then Slim's jaw drops, when the tall blue man appears. The half-elf greets Grandmaster TOZ, "Yo, Blue Man. Gotta say, I'm a big fan of your shows. Your group's performance art was a huge hit in Pitax. Knew a guy, who knew a guy, and I got a pair of front row seats for a friend and me."
When some Iomedeans also show up and join the party, Slim whistles. "Sheesh. Looks like Sister Ayako had lots of friends in high places."
"It's like a Worldwound Woodstock festival." The paladin-bard winks at Candi. "Got some peyote tabs on you?"
Venture Captain Elric |
"Slim, forgive me my ignorance, but who is that?"
While speaking htese words Elric recasts his False Life Temporary HP: 1d10 + 10 ⇒ (2) + 10 = 12
Slimjim Son House Shady |
"He's one of the Blue Men, Cap'n Elric. Tight blue leather and drums, cavorting about on a grand stage. Strange, decadent stuff. Best viewed while intoxicated."
Candi Payne |
After some initial healing of herself and others, Candi, still in the form of a naked tikbalang, soaks another cigar in whiskey and begins chewing it.
The “initial healing” referred to here is what Candi did here and here, plus one application of her wand of infernal healing upon Donna.
At this point, we’re eight rounds after the death and explosion of the balor. Candi is at 20/161 hp, Donna is 40/80 hp, I’ve used 2 charges off the wand of infernal healing.
Responding to Slim.
Nah, my dad and his lawyer are into that. I'm more of a booze and tobacco kind of girl.
Candi calls out to the recently arrived paladin and his entourage.
Hey, I could use a heal and a foot rub.
Spend two prestige for the heal which should get Candi to 130/161 hp. For the rest of her healing, Candi is going to use the wand of infernal healing twice on herself and twice on Donna, adding 20 hp to each of them. While the infernal healing is underway, Candi will ask someone to use her Wand of CLW on her and Donna.
Candi at 150/161 before wand
wand of CLW: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6
wand of CLW: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
Donna at 60/80 before wand
wand of CLW: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
wand of CLW: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7
wand of CLW: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7
Candi is now at full hp, and Donna is 78/80 hp.
Candi calls out to Elric.
That stoneskin we talked about. Now would be a good time if it's still available.
Also if anyone has a mage armor hanging about as a spell or on a wand or scroll, that would be nice.
All this can be done in a three minute period after the death of the balor, which seems to be a reasonable amount of time for healing, etc. after our balor fight.
Venture Captain Elric |
"No problem, you can have it, I do not need a repeat of what happened the last fight in the next combat."
Elric casts Stoneskin on Candi.
Candi Payne |
A smiling Candi thumps her naked rock hard tikbalang chest.
That's the ticket! Many thanks VC E, open bar for you at Club Candi.
How's Sister Ayako doing? The big blue guy and the cute Iomedean priestess got her up and about?
GM Blake |
Slim gets busy restoring himself with his wand.
Venture-Captain Elric shakes the cobwebs out of his skull midway through the crusader's ritual.
One of the other Iomedaeans dismounts and approaches Candi. After a short conversation, he nods. "Iomedae! Restore this truly brave mortal who faced down one of the terrible evils in nothing but the skin the gods gave her (albeit slightly modified)," he prays. In an instant, her body becomes nearly completely healed.
After a long minute, during which time the demon army seems to be oozing closer and closer from the periphery of the devastation left by the balor's fall, Ayako gasps for breath. She is weak but conscious.
Ayako: d100 for each remaining spell/spell slot, <51 results in loss of that slot.
Slimjim Son House Shady |
"Sure thing, Schattenstern!" Slim starts poking and prodding the man with his wand.
Venture Captain Elric |
CLW rolls:
CLW: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
CLW: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 = 8
CLW: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
CLW: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
CLW: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
CLW: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
CLW: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
CLW: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7
CLW: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7
CLW: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
CLW: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7
CLW: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
CLW: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7
CLW: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7
CLW: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9
The rest of the healing will be taken care of by the infernal healing.
That means Elric is ready after another 1 1/2 minutes.
Sister Ayako |
"-pation." Opening her eyes, Ayako looks around at the gathered crusaders. "Do help a lady up, gentlefolk." Rising, the golden fur so recently restored melts away, the human features reforming back over the course of seconds. Now-rounded eyes narrow at the sight of the party. "Tch. Embarassing to see myself the only one. I trust we won't speak of it further."

Blue Dash delays until the end of the turn in order to best serve his mistress in washing her blades.
"Go in grace," the crusader of Shelyn says as the other two mount their steeds. The other five crusaders salute you and all six shout as one, "Hail the balor-salyers!"
"Iomedae herself would be proud," the cleric who restored Ayako to life says before they ride off toward a demon in the distance that dwarfs even the balor.
Fully restored, you look for another commander of the army to defeat. Not far from where you are and near the front of the demon army you see severed body parts of crusaders being flung into the air. That must be where the Sibilant Twins are.
You make your way through gaps in the battle as crusaders and Pathfinders battle hordes of dretch, succubi, vrock, and hezrous. Lightning crackles through the air, brimstone stings your nose, and the terrible song of a murder of vrock begins in the distance.
Breaking into a clearing covered in dead crusaders, horses, and a few demons, you spy what must be the Sibilant Twins. They are each six-armed swordswomen with a gigantic snake's tail in place of their legs. One (blue) finishes crushing a crusader in adamantine plate, releasing the body and then severing his or her head. She holds out her bloodied blade to a large, frog-like ogre of a demon (blue dash) who quickly and submissively wipes her blade. The other (red) shrieks with fiendish glee as she dismembers two crusaders at once. Her blades and arms are covered in gore with impaled heads, arms, and hearts still stuck on her many blades.

As Slim witnesses the carnage being wrought by the Sibilant Twins and their minion, he shouts a warning to the rest of the team. "The frog demon is a hezrou. Quite intelligent, but they prefer the simple pleasures—slumber, the thrill of torture, the bliss of feasting on a living meal, or the joy of feeling something beautiful breaking and crumbling in a clenched fist. This one appears to be quite subservient."
His study of the Sibilant Twins is more deliberate, accessing every bit of lore at his trained bard's disposal.

Candi Payne |
As the party moves toward the Twins, Candi quietly ponders the parting words of the crusaders.
”Balor-slayers!” Oh man, tonight’s afterparty is going to be so lit!
Donna hisses and nods vigorously in agreement.
As the Twins and their servant come into view, Candi prepares to cut them into little pieces.

I moved Candi to what I think is the correct spot for a charge against blue marilith. If Candi could be five feet further east and thus out of the way of the incoming t-rex, I would do that.

Blue Marilith vs. Glitterdust: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (10) + 13 = 23
Marilith (Elric): DR 10/cold iron and good, immune electricity and poison
Marilith (Slim): Constrict with crushing coils (save vs. unconscious), all weapons are counted as magic, chaotic, and evil, and they take no penalties for multiweapon fighting.
Herzou (Elric): Stench aura (30 ft), DR 10/good, immune electricity and poinson
Herzou (Slim): Grappling a herzou causes nausea
Candi charges across the battlefield in her altered form, closing in on the distracted marilith with the speed of the wind. The first sword blow cuts extremely deeply into the demoness, the second cuts again but the berserker feels her strength being sapped, the third and fourth blows are parried. In her rage, she bites into the demon, although the demonflesh resists her teeth.
Nice critical.
The fastidious marilith lets out a shriek as she is blinded by the conjured motes of gold. The herzou someone how manages to squint his eyes just in time to avoid it. Then four celestial tyrannosaurs arrive from Elysium.
The first's bite is not powerful enough to penetrate the bloody marilith's armor. The tyrannosaur bites her and lifts her off of the ground. She hisses with fiendish rage.
The last two saurians are overwhelmed by the hezrou's stench. The third saurian bites the blinded marilith but fails to hold on to her as she twists and writhes in rage. The fourth one manages to snatch her up like a bird picking up a worm.
The bloody marilith quickly wraps her coils around the celestial tyrannosaur, taking control of the grapple and attempting to squeeze the life out of the beast. She brings her gory blades against the dinosaur's face: blood, scales, and meat spray into the air. Half of the beast's face is ground meat by the time the next of you can act.

"Yes. Well." Ayako considers the battlefield, before looking to Slim. "I believe I am accompaniment for this particular engagement." Producing her metamagic rod just in case, she rises in the air and approaches the battle unhurriedly. Obsidean and Candi once again find themselves bolstered by Sylvan speech.

Obsidian strolls forward. As he strolls he drags a hand on the ground and gathers earth on it as if the ground and rock were cotton candy. He then hurls it at the frog-demon. As he hurls it he disappears. When it hits the demon, he reappears next to the demon.

The poor, blind hezrou is pummeled by the swarm of stone. Many of the stones cling to the frog demon and then fuse together with the ground.
As Obsidian manifests next to the demon, he smells the foul stench but his stomach is stronger than that of a tyrannosaurus (or his nose is weaker).

Slimjim Son House Shady |
Slim lets the team know what he knows about the Sibilant Twins and the frog demon. "The maraliths constrict with crushing coils (save vs. unconscious), all their weapons count as magic, chaotic, and evil, and they take no penalties for multiweapon fighting. The hezrou demon is a disgusting bugger; grappling one can make you nauseous."
He taps the heels of his boots of speed and calls out to his goddess once more. (Oath of Vengeance: expended two lay on hands for an additional smite) "Eternal Rose, let's send these fiends back to the Abyss!" He points to the blue maralith, focusing his divine vengeance on her first.
Then he step a little closer to the action and begins a staccato rap, inspiring his colleagues and their summoned creatures with his discordant voice.

The severely injured marilith hisses and lashes out blindly. Her blade glances off of the tyrannosaur's snout holding her tight in its grip. She strikes Candi with two blades--cracking her stoneskin imperceptibly--and the tyrannosaur next to the one holding her with another. The rest of her many swords and her powerful tail flail around in empty air.
The blind, piteous hezrou begins to croak a series of syllables, but in the end, nothing happens.
A moment later, the blindness fades from the hezrou's eyes. "Ribbit!"

Candi positions herself and then strikes at the writhing, blind marilith caught in the saurian jaws. It ultimately takes her two strikes, and then the marilith gives up the fight. Six exotic swords clatter to the ground under the tyrannosaur's feet.
As Candi turns to deal with the hezrou, she finds that following the death of its master, it has vanished in a cloud of oily smoke.

Gold dust flutters across the far end of the battlefield, but the gore covered serpent demon seems unaffected (twice).
The tyrannosaurs surround the remaining marilith like a pack of rabid dogs who have caught a cat. The demon shrieks and hisses as their powerful jaws grab her and pull her in different directions.
The bloody marilith fights back with savagery. There is a heavy thud as the injured tyrannosaur falls, blood flowing from several deep neck wounds. The demon, freed of its jaws, turns her attention on the next Elysium therapod. Her tail snaps out and wraps around the beast, dragging its immense body over to her. Her red-scaled body wraps around the saurian and squeezes. There is a second thud as a second tyrannosaur is dropped to the ground, unconscious.
She releases the unconscious predator and slashes at the closest of the two remaining saurian giants, cutting through its heavy scales to leave deep wounds.
Oh, I forgot the bleeding criticals in round 1. Oh well.
