Chip Ramsey |
"This new arm is super drift, but not so much with the stealthy, yar? I'll just go up to the front door."
Whistling "nonchalantly" while drawing no less than 4 different weapons out at once, Chip moves to the closer door, and waits for the team to get in position, still waving that extra appendage around excitedly and giving himself a cross-body handshake every now and then.
Mustachio Marino |
Mustachio and all the others follow Chip to the front door.
On his comms, he whispers to Clastorg..."You see anything? Maybe I can talk this guy out."
GM Silbeg |
Clastorg makes it around without incident. Neither group sees anything other than closed doors.
How do you continue? Knock and talk, break and enter, or ???
Clastorg |
Clastorg will crouch down and quickly send a text to the rest of the party. <<I will knock and call out to Mr. Lanzio. You should all be ready in case he decides to run.>> Putting away his comm-unit, he then stands straight and knocks on the door. "Hello? Is there a Mr. Lanzio here?"
GM Silbeg |
There is no answer to Clastorg's knock.
No one hears anything coming from inside, either.
GM Silbeg |
Only way to find out is to try and open it
Clastorg tests the door, and it is indeed locked.
Clastorg |
Finding the door locked, Clastorg will attempt to pick the lock.

Clastorg picks the lock, to see a man with two security robots. When he sees Clastorg he yells, "I knew it!" and orders his robots to attack.
Clastorg is able to relay what is happening... no surprise round, but the door the bulk of the party is standing at is still closed and locked!

GM, I don't suppose I could offer Mustachio my coin reroll for his attack?

I don't get it. Did I do something wrong? We want him alive sure, but we can easily stabilize him after knocking him out.

Most monsters and NPCs don’t have Resolve Points, so injury and death work differently for them. A monster or NPC reduced to 0 HP is dead, unless the last bit of damage it took was nonlethal damage (see page 252), in which case it is knocked unconscious. If it is ever important to know exactly when a monster dies, such as if you want to capture the creature alive, the GM can decide that a monster reduced to 0 or fewer Hit Points with lethal damage dies in 3 rounds unless it takes any additional damage or receives healing. If a monster or NPC has Resolve Points, the GM can choose whether the monster dies at 0 HP or if it uses the normal rules for dying and death.
Assume the possibility of table variation on this. A GM is not required to give 3 rounds.
Yes, Chip, you could do that. However, I am going to use some GM fiat to say that since Chip comes after Mustachio in the order, THIS TIME ONLY, I will say that Chip fired his non-lethal atack after Mustachio.
With Mustachio and Chip attacking, Lanzio falls to the ground, unconscious.

Everyone gets a +1 to attack while Chip is still threatening, since Starfinder did away with the "reach weapons don't threaten adjacent squares" rule from Pathfinder! :D
GM Silbeg |
While Kane misses, Clastorg does not, followed by Chip showing off and striking twice. The robot goes down!
Clastorg |
With no evident threats in the room, CLastorg moves up to Lanzio's computer. "You guys deal with him. I'll see what I can find on this." He then begins typing away at the keyboard.
Computers: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (20) + 10 = 30
GM Silbeg |
Clastor realizes, as he bangs away on the keyboard, that Lanzio has set it up to self-destruct. He can also tell that the code is partially technological, partly magical. Disarm with engineering, computers, or mysticism
He partially disables the self-destruct, but the timer is still ticking down...
30
Chip Ramsey |
Chip exhales after the robot drops. "Yar! Nobody singes a Ramsey and gets away wit' it!" before turning around, seeing so many of the team working on the 'puter, which he knows he is less than useless at trying to use beyond a personal comm unit.
Looking down at Hira, Chip shrugs and wades over, quickly patting him down looking for healing serums to use on the man. If none are found immediately, he'll sigh and draw a Mk. 1 from his own Starfinder Backpack to inject Hira with.
Mk. 1 Serum of Healing: 1d8 ⇒ 7
...and if Lanzio tries to get up and/or attack from that, Chip will nonlethally bonk him over the head with any number of weapons bearing the merciful fusion.
GM Silbeg |
Kane is able to stop the timer. Kane and Clastorg realize that the computer has been wiped, but there are some traces that could be recovered.
Chip does not find any healing serums, but does find a very nice looking designer watch on his wrist.
Lanzio wakes up... "What? I am still alive?"
Clastorg |
Looking at Kane, Clastorg says to him "We should probably get this to Historia-7."
Then, seeing that Lanzio is conscious again, he moves over a crouches down next to the human. "Yes, Mr. Lanzio, you are still alive. We have no wish to see you dead, and in fact have just saved your life. I suggest that we all exit this dwelling before the code in the reactor vents the atmosphere. After that, why don't you inform our boss just what it is that you were sent to this station to do."
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (16) + 5 = 21
Chip Ramsey |
Sorry for not posting yesterday, offline/RL unpleasantness to deal with.
Chip debates going the "bad cop" route but decides to help Clastorg along. "Yar, while we're all still breathing (which this funny 'puter code seemed to not want you to do anymore by-the-by) let's go have a nice chat with our friend Historia, nufriend?"
Diplomacy aid another: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (13) + 1 = 14
"...and this fancy watch is going to pay for your medical not-dying bill, gree?"
GM Silbeg |
"I just uploaded some code into the station's infosphere. I didn't know what it was supposed to do. Honestly!" says a distraught Lanzio. "I thought you were here to kill me, not save me.
"And before you ask, I don't know who is responsible for the code... the mission was given to me through anonymous accounts. You can probably get a code sample from the reactor, as the station's power problems are likely a result of it trying to adapt.
"I am perfectly willing to work with the Starfinders and your boss. It would be good to have friends if they try again."
By the time you report in to Historia-7, there are only 30 minutes until the concert starts, which is not enough time to clear the station.
Historia-7 quickly devises a plan: she believes she can take advantage of the sophisticated hybrid stage projector that Strawberry Machine Cake uses to project their realistic holoavatars. With a bit of tweaking and a connection to the infosphere, Historia-7 can use the magic of the stage to interact with the magic of the code, contain the code in the stage projector’s computer, use the holoavatar programming to force the
code into a physical form, and have you all "shoot it to death".
"You will need to talk to the band's manager, Shinjiro, to arrange this. Make your way the concert hall. Zigvigix and I will do what we can to secure a meeting."
When you get there, you are greeted by a middle-aged human man wearing an elaborate pink-and-white frock coat, complete with a pink top hat that has white rabbit ears protruding from the brim. Shinjiro tells you that the band is prepping for the concert and cannot attend the meeting.
Despite his bizarre attire and mannerisms, the agent fortunately recognizes the severity of the situation without any persuading but adamantly refuses to stop the concert.
Besides the fact that he and the band have poured 2 years of work into preparing for this event, Shinjiro agrees with the assessment that the station can’t be evacuated in time. He believes that the only way to avoid casualties from both the virus and a panicking crowd is to make the audience believe the battle with the code is part of the concert. He thus agrees to Historia-7’s plan, but only if Historia-7 can make the code look appropriate to the stage show, forcing Historia-7 to ask Zigvigix for design advice.
Shinjiro also states that he intends to get the station guards to quickly amp up the security force-field barrier to prevent the fight from spilling off the stage. He even allows you onto the stage as extras prior to the start of the concert so they stand ready to battle the manifested code... but not the way the you are currently dressed. Before going onstage, you are asked to pick a holocostume out of the available options programmed into the band’s stage projector, though anyone who was mutated by the hespers might have some clipping errors. The available costume style choices are glam, heavy metal, sweet lolita, and visual kei.
Please let me know which costume you are choosing
Chip Ramsey |

Mustachio Marino |
"Ah... we are going to... project the code.... fight it... as part of the show..." Mustachio gets a screwed up look on his face before it clears up and he says, "Of course! It makes so much sense! Sweet Lolita for me!"
