Dax's torrent of icy chill finishes off the wounded Goat-Demon, but despite the force of Dax's or Alexandra's magics, they seem equally able to withstand arctic cold as Alexandra's acid.
The spiteful goats surround El Garrapata, halberds swinging and horns flashing, but one of them bounds away from the boisterous bruiser, hoping to catch the fleeing wizard! Outside, the remaining demon tries to batter Kargen while he's still caught unawares.
Alexandra escapees unscathed, but Kargen and El Garrapata both take a bit of a beating as the demons hack at them with glee.

With the demons gone and the danger passed, the stone wall winks out of existence. Her breathing eventually returns to normal and she sheepishly straightens up.
By the Bronze, does he even notice all of his injuries? He really stuck his neck out to pull that goat away from me.
Alex pulls out a wand and scrambles over the spilled drinks and broken cups. Her head cocks to the right as she stares at El Garrapata for a moment. After coming to grips with the state of him, she begins to use the wand to heal the many wounds he picked up in the last few minutes.

You make your way back to the Egelsee district, where you are quickly found by a dazed-looking man in the livery of the Starrise Spire.
“Thank the gods I have found you! Venture-Captain Jorsal tasked me with finding some experienced agents, and it appears I am blessed with you. Jorsal is trying to mobilize as many Pathfinders as he can, and needs the assistance of Venture-Captain Thurl. I’ll direct you to his lodge, but please find him. Or at the very least, find out where he might be!”
Any questions?
Alexandra Trazaron

I’m good.

"THURL is the dwarf CAPTAIN, right? WONDER WHERE HE'S GOTTEN OFF TO?" Garrapata nods to the PFS man and heads off to the Lodge indicated. In the wrong direction. Once he's stopped, he nods and grins and follows the others.
| GM Cwethan |
You get directions and are on your way. Thurl’s Lodge is a modest structure that lies in the Egelsee district of Nerosyan. Publicly touted as a contract site for cut-rate mercenaries, you understand that the building rarely sees visitors from the crusader host. A single front door allows for access to the structure, and no other doors or windows seem to exist. The building is surrounded on both sides by other buildings — a blacksmith and a local brewery—preventing any other means of entry or view into the lodge.
The front door is unlocked and leads into what looks like a reception area. A clock rests against the western wall, and a desk covers the northeastern section of the room. Doors exit to the east and north.

You don't see any signs of battle or distress for now, but no one seems to have noticed your entrance.
What do you do?
Alexandra Trazaron
|
I'll cast detect magic whenever we enter a new room.
Alexandra begins to detect magic, focusing on the desk.
| GM Cwethan |
Dominating the eastern edge of this room is a long bench. Two sturdy chairs stand beside a wooden table near the center of the room; a thin layer of dust covers them. A bookshelf lies on the northern edge, prominently displaying a number of books on the history of Mendev and the Worldwound. Another door leads to the north.
Alexandra: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8
Kargen: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (1) + 13 = 14
Dax: 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (8) + 17 = 25
El G: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (15) + 4 = 19
The books are reasonable enough, but judging from a quick skim, none of them really do more than give a brief overview of the Crusades.
Alexandra detects no magical auras
Alexandra Trazaron
|
Before entering the next room, Alexandra pulls out a wand and cast Shield on herself. She whispers to everyone a warning as her nerves start to creep up on her.
"If Thurl was here he would hear us or we would hear him. Something is wrong here. Or maybe he is just lost in his work."
She then carefully scoots around the wall to get a better look at the book Thurl is interested in or at least puts on his bookshelf.
| GM Cwethan |
An Overview of Failure: or a discussion of the first - fourth campaigns against the Worldwound

Dax decides that the subtle method is not the correct one. The gnome shouts, or at least vocalizes loudly with inflection, "Venture Captain Thurl, or whomever has taken him, show yourself! Should I have to find you, I will be cross."
| GM Cwethan |
Silence is the only answer, and even Kargen's keen eyes find no sign of any recent tracks.
