Thael Silverstep wrote:

Thael spends the evening, and probably too much of the night, studying his spells, including some new ones that he has been working on. He tries to prepare some that may be beneficial in fighting the dragon.

"Father Emil," he asks the cleric. "Which protective spells are you preparing, that we might synergize our efforts."

I've only had time to prepare spells this afternoon, so sorry for the delay.

Emil prepares Protection from Energy, Communal (acid), Magic Circle against Evil, and 3 castings of Shield of Faith. He also notifies Wren that he has prepared Blessing of Fervor, which duplicates many of the advantages of Haste but doesn't stack with haste.

All Emil's prepared spells can be seen on his profile now.

Wren casts mage armor or on herself and then casts the requested Invisibility on her friend, Selde. ”Do be careful. It feels like it should last six or seven minutes, but I’m still working out the kinks with it,” she grinned as she used her magic and watched her friend fade away.

Emil prays for spells a little before daylight and then watches the light return, with Abby if she joins him as he suggested. Then he circulates among the people, trying to lift spirits and prepare people for the events of the day. "Today, we may finally find ourselves a secure home from which to ride out the next stage of the hobgoblin invasion. But we face a dangerous foe. With Erastil's blessing, we may prevail." He leaves the obvious possibility unspoken, that some of the leaders may not return.

He feeds his pet otter, dog, cat, and raven, and then prepares for the fights to come. "I have a number of spells to protect us, but I'll cast them when we are closer to the battle, as some do not last so long. I may convert some of my prepared spells into summoning of animals to aid in the battle, as Erastil has blessed me with the ability to call on allies from the forest and nature to aid our efforts."

Wren casts invisibility on Selde and the druid makes her way back inside the tower's ground floor. She peeks around checking out the various rooms before ascending through the second and third floors of the tower.

When she reaches the corridor with the small stream of water moving through it, she notes the doors that were closed yesterday are now opened. Moving closer to open to peek inside, she pushes the door open and looks for trouble.

Inside she finds a chamber looks more like a forest cave than a room. Piles of large stones heaped against the walls break up the straight lines and angles of the room, and pots and bowls sprout ferns and ivy. A large, badly torn pallet lies atop the stones up against the southwest wall, resembling a nest more than a bed. A double door leads out to the southeast and a small window in the northwest wall looks out over the forest beyond.

Before she can explore much further, a loud bell begins ringly loudly, echoing throughout the room. She looks around for the source of the sound but is unable to locate it.

Outside the tower, the group can hear the handbell ringing loudly inside of the tower.

"Let's get up there!"

Selde is unable to find the source of the sound, with the bell seemingly ringing from thin air. She starts back down the steps as the others dart inside the building. As they meet on the second story, the building shudders once.

WHOOSH

And then again. WHOOSH

The screeching sound of a loud roar reverberates from outside of the building as the dragon you were searching for appears to have arrived. Or so it would have you believe.

As you hurry and make you way back down the steps, you find that you have been misled. As you sprint for the door, you catch sight of a large black, winged dragon smashing the bridges that lead from the fort back to the mainland just before it swoops off towards the forest, back in the direction towards your camp.

Just before you can make it through the doors, the large stack of crates which had been piled outside next to the door come tumbling down in front of the entrance, blocking your path. From the cracks between the crates, you can see two figures on the other side moving about. A torch is throw into the crates which begin to burn.

The sound of the dragons screeching loudly can barely be heard in the distance along with the laughing of a female hobgoblin. She shouts "FOOLS! THE MIGHT IBZAIRIAK SENDS HIS REGARDS!"

We'll take it in rounds from here. The party is up. You're at the front door of the tower which is barricaded by numerous large crates which are smoldering in the fire from the torch throw in there.

Thael watches in alarm as the dragon heads toward their camp.

We are fools! We have fallen into their trap!

Seeing the need to get through the door quickly, Thael casts battering blast, hoping to smash it right open.

heightened battering blast (Str check): 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (18) + 7 = 254d6 ⇒ (1, 6, 3, 3) = 13

This spell pushes an unattended object struck by it 20 feet away from you, provided it weighs no more than 25 pounds per level (maximum 250 pounds). This spell cannot move creatures or objects beyond your range. Used on a door or other obstacle, the spell attempts a Strength check to destroy it if the sheer damage inflicted by the spell doesn’t do the job.

TG1 | GW | FF | RH

Thael's spell is successful, blasting the door and crates out of the with in an explosion of debris. As the dust begins to clear, you see a hobgoblin warrior with a cougar standing beside her about twenty feet to the south.

No map for now. You are all inside the tower with the way south now clear. The fifteen feet outside the door between you and the enemy is difficult terrain, covered in shattered and broken remnants of the crates and and their contents

Emil grunts as their careful plan falls into ruin. Unable to change their fate, he bows his head briefly and speaks as if praying in earnest, "Beannaigh dúinn go léir le neart, clisteachtagus misneach!"

His holy symbol glows green-gold and light spreads out to all his allies, including Pila, filling all with holy energy that each may use to fight the good fight.

Casts Blessing of Fervor.

Blessing of Fervor Spell description:

With this blessing, you call your allies to move forth and empower them to conquer and become victorious. Each round for the duration of this spell, each of your allies can choose one of the following bonuses for that round at the beginning of its turn (their choice).
•Increase its speed by 30 feet.
•Stand up as a swift action without provoking an attack of opportunity.
•Take one extra attack as part of a full attack action, using its highest base attack bonus.
•Gain a +2 bonus on attack rolls and a +2 dodge bonus to AC and Reflex saves.
•Cast a single spell of 2nd level or lower as if it were an enlarged, extended, silent, or still spell.

These effects are not cumulative with similar effects, such as those provided by haste or a speed weapon, nor do they actually grant an extra action, so you can't use it to cast a second spell or otherwise take an extra action in the round. Blessing of fervor does not stack with haste.

The spell says it does not stack with Haste, but I hope that means that if a benefit of Blessing of Fervor provides a similar benefit, you cannot stack the benefit. So there is no benefit to choosing the option to increase speed, since that is already provided by Haste. You can't get more than one extra attack. The attack bonus from Haste does not stack with the option to gain a +2 bonus on attack rolls, nor do the AC bonuses stack. But otherwise, I assume the two effects can be active on the same person. If this is not correct and Blessing of Fervor cannot be cast on a PC who already has Haste, let me know. For reference, here is the link for Haste

I don't want to choose an action for Pila without knowing where enemies are. Likewise, I'd have Emil move after casting the spell to get into position to attack, but I'd like to know relative placement of enemies before doing that. Pila will likely move and attack one of the enemies if she has a clear path to do so.

"Laugh it up," Caspan growls as he quickly prepares himself for a fight and rushes toward the hobgoblin, trying to knock her to the ground.

Swift: Use martial flexibility to gain boar style
Move: Move to the hob. I assume with haste, I can do that despite the difficult terrain.

I included the bonus for haste. If you allow the non-stacking BoF, that would be an additional +2 to those attack rolls, and a +2 to AC.

TG1 | GW | FF | RH

The map is updated. The orange square is difficult terrain. The debris is on fire, but it's scattered enough from Thael's blast that it's not a concern at this point.

With regards to Haste/BOF, my understanding is that you can have both spells active but only choose the effect from one category at a time (as you state above).

I believe based on the relative bonuses of Haste and Blessing of Fervor, the main three choices to make each round are between the following: Stand up as a swift action without provoking an attack of opportunity or gain a +2 bonus on attack rolls and a +2 dodge bonus to AC and Reflex saves (which does not stack with the +1 bonus from haste for these same three things) or Cast a single spell of 2nd level or lower as if it were an enlarged, extended, silent, or still spell.

In addition to whichever one of the above chosen, the haste provides the +30 speed bonus and the extra attack when making a full attack. If you don't chose the Blessing of Fervor bonus to attack, AC, and reflex saves, you get a +1 bonus from haste instead.

Portrait Male Human Cleric of Erastil 6 | hp: |

Based on Caspan's post, I assume he has moved up to the hobgoblin and made his attack. Emil has cast a spell and so can only move closer, while Pila will move and attack the hobgoblin, but she will try to stay at least 10 feet from the cougar. It would help to have Caspan moved and word on whether his trip succeeded or not, as that will affect what Pila does and where Emil moves.

TG1 | GW | FF | RH

I was not making any assumptions since you said you wanted a map before were making decisions. Caspan's trip was unsuccessful. Let me know what it is you decide to based on that info.

Caspan quickly moves through the debris and tries to trip the Ironfang hobgoblin on the other side. He is unable to look her legs however, and she remains on her feet. Pila advances and rips her teeth into the female hobgoblin, but is unable to grab a hold of her.

The hobgoblin whistles loudly and two more hobgoblins emerge from the barracks to her south, advancing quickly towards the party. Though they have a few daggers strapped to their bodies, they hold no weapons in their hands. One moves to the southeast of the forward hobgoblin while the other splits and comes up ten feet west of Caspan.

The female hobgoblin steps back and twirls her hands around in the air, which begin to glow red hot like embers. She thrusts them towards Caspan, but he feels nothing happen to him. All three of Selde's flaming arrows land, one of which critically strikes the enemy in her head which leaves her wobbling and woozy. Before she can recover, Caspan's fist connects and sends her flying backwards into the building, crumpling to the ground.

Pila bite and claws her attacker once each and Emil is able to bury his scythe into the animal as well. His attack is followed up by three missiles from Wren that slam into the cougar as well.

The cougar is grappling Pila, she can't five foot. She can still attack her grappler however.

The speed increase from Haste is the same as from BOF, so she could take the bonus to hit and to AC from BOF and still have the increase in movement needed to reach Pila. Pila's hp now up to 3.
