Stairways lead up to a marble dais, where rotted wooden offerings lie in splinters. The tiles of the floor are scorched black, and the smell of magical ozone fills the air. A sickly pale glow sputters amid a pile of debris, illuminating a shattered sword upon the ground. In the chamber’s walls, rows of niches bear ceramic urns labeled with bronze plaques. A repetitive grinding sound echoes through the chamber, erratic and yet unceasing.
The grinding sound and pale glow come from the tomb’s last remaining guardian, who Syagra smashed into pieces centuries ago. Despite Syagra’s efforts, the
ruined guardian clings to life, vainly attempting to perform its duty. Formerly a statue of a proud, doglike creature, it now lies in fragments, only able to move its intricate metal frame with its magical animating force. The guardian’s
jaws spark wildly as the disparate pieces drag themselves towards you struggling to destroy you. It has also animated three crawling hands from the ruins of the statue.
You recognise that the guardian is magically unstable and likely to explode.

No, I just already had the flag out before we entered the room...so just wanted to remind folks.
| GM Darren |
Seeing Aylanna begin to chant, the nearest hand scuttles over and tries to claw at Aylanna
Melee attack vs AC: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (8) + 5 = 13 but mistimes its jump.
At the same time, the second crawlign hand tries to claw Garsita's throat open

So that natty 20 is a possible critical hit; roll again the same attack roll, if it would hit then the crit is confirmed, and the hand gets an extra die and bonus of damage
Tholl takes a swing at the guardian, he then steps to his right.
mwk longsword + flagbearer: 1d20 + 3 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 3 + 1 = 12

Angry Magic Tree

Angry Magic Tree steps closer to Garsita and tries to whack the hand off her.
5 ft step, rage, and attack grappling hand. Perhaps we can put a coloured box around each hand for easier identification?
Greataxe, Flagbearer: 1d20 + 7 + 1 ⇒ (20) + 7 + 1 = 28
Slashing damage, Flagbearer, Fire damage: 1d10 + 7 + 1 + 1d4 ⇒ (6) + 7 + 1 + (3) = 17
Crit confirm: 1d20 + 7 + 1 ⇒ (19) + 7 + 1 = 27
Crit damage: 2d10 + 14 + 2 ⇒ (7, 3) + 14 + 2 = 26
I know I like to use Preview to see if I need to make additional rolls before finalizing the post. Having the critical damage separate is slightly annoying for calculating the total damage, but it's easier for the GM in case an opponent is immune to critical hits or something similar.
Alina Vladinescu

Alina steps into the corner away from the melee and concentrates on the guardian, hoping to help take the leader out of the fight.
5' step then use Misfortune hex on guardian; Will save DC 14

Hands recoloured - sorry, meant to do this earlier.
Tholl misses his swipe at the dog, but Angry pretty much pulverises the yellow hand which is knocked from Garsita's face.
Guardian Dog Will Save DC14: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (10) + 0 = 10
A cloud descends over the dog which barks in furstration. hexed
Garsita is up
| GM Darren |
Going to bot Garsita to keep things moving
Garsita attacks the blue hand with her dagger, now blazing from Aylanna's bardic song
Melee attack with dagger: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (16) + 2 = 18
Damage: 1d4 + 2 + 1d4 ⇒ (3) + 2 + (3) = 8
Garsita sees off the hand! Just the vicious guardian dog to go.
Round 2
Aylanna is up but you may all post behind spoilers and I will resolve as needed
Angry Magic Tree
|
Has anyone attacked the white hand? And is the blue hand still alive and, uh, kicking, or did Garsita "kill" it?
If the blue hand is still a threat, he'll aim at that one. Should that attack remove it from the fight, he'll step into its space and threaten the dog statue. Otherwise, he'll step into the blue hand's space and target the dog statue.
Greataxe, Flagbearer: 1d20 + 7 + 1 ⇒ (18) + 7 + 1 = 26

Combat over. Sorry for delay - travelling to Switzerland today and the fog meant that I spent 90 extra minutes on the tarmac followed by an aborted landing! Will update tomorrow ASAP
| GM Darren |
Hi folks, I'm back and your patience is appreciated. The bad news for you is that as the guardian dog drops to the floor...
It releases a burst of electricity in a 10 ft radius. You all received 2d6 ⇒ (6, 4) = 10 electricity damge. DC13 Reflex for half
You move forward into the tomb. This sparse room holds little beyond a lacquered wooden coffin. A human skull sits on a plate in front of the casket, while a mangled clockwork owl lies a few feet away. An engraved plaqueis propped up behind the skull against the wooden pall. The smell of corrosion fills the air.
The plaque reads Here lies Honaria Alcasti, betrayed by her inferiors and those she served. We shall remember her deeds and restore her honor
The letters are fadedand the plaque appears to be centuries old. Looking closer at the plaque you see a hairpin with a noble crest upon it.
The clockwork owl is Amantius, the former familiar of Italice Cenabri. His confrontation with Syagra destroyed the right half of his face and damaged his connections to a wand inside his body, causing him to
spew corrosive acid in a 10-foot-radius cloud around him.
Acid cloud Damage: 1d6 ⇒ 4 DC14 Reflex Negates
You can neutralize the broken wand with a DC 15 Disable Device, a DC 13 Craft (construct) check, or a DC 15 Use Magic Device check.
It takes 1d4 ⇒ 1 rounds to neutralise so you need to roll for one more round of acid damage/reflex or you can attack it
Angry Magic Tree
|
Reflex vs DC 13: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (20) + 1 = 21
Angry Magic Tree dances out of the way of the worst of the exploding guardian, her face alight with joy and rage. "Haha!" he yells, "is that the worst you can do, you rocky dog you!"
Reflex vs DC 14: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (17) + 1 = 18
At the tomb, Angry Magic Tree again avoids damage as she studies the acidic owl. "Hmm," she says thoughtfully. "Do you want me to smash it?" He grins in anticipation as he holds his greataxe ready.
Tholl Sjogunsson

As the guardian explodes Tholl drops unconscious once more.
Reflex: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 2 = 13
He lies there dying. -3 hp before anything else happens.
Alina Vladinescu

Reflex dog: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8
Reflex acid: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 2 = 22
Alina is about to let loose a smile at the combat being over when the dog explodes and she drops.
-2 HP at the moment
Garsita
|
reflex save, before being able to heal: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8
OK, if the whole party drops, there is no healing everyone, so I'm going to use my folio reroll on that reflex save.
reflex save, GM stars: 1d20 + 3 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 + 3 = 12
Garsita also falls down, unconscious, after the dog's explosion.
I hope that Aylanna makes that reflex save, or we may be in for a really bad time here...
status: -3 HP
edit: I should clarify that Garsita actually did not get to heal Tholl, because she fell unconscious first.
Aylanna
|
Maybe someone has a healing potion that happens to roll out of their bag as they fall? :P[ooc]
[ooc]I usually do, but Aylanna doesn't have one yet...
Garsita
|
I poked around in everyone's profile, and found nothing. And no character at our level has enough prestige to recover, either.
Angry Magic Tree, I know your character is built from a rather precious race boon, so I will have no hard feelings if you do what you can for us, but don't endanger your character.
Tholl Sjogunsson
|
Exploding dog near TPK! The author of this scenario must have had it out for level 1s as there have been a number of things very deadly to new Pathfinders. 1st time I've lost someone in PFS.
Garsita
|
Actually, we can make it out of this. Angry Magic Tree has the racial trait that lets her use Goodberry once a day. If she does that and feeds the berries to someone who can heal, and lacks few enough HP that the berries bring them back, they can then heal everyone else.
Alina Vladinescu
|
I'm at -2 and can use the wands, so even if she rolled all 1's with the goodberry spell she could get me to 0 which just barely gets us going.
Angry Magic Tree
|
I'm glad you saw that Garsita - I'd forgotten all about it!
Angry Magic Tree is still dancing his celebration dance when he notices all his friends dropping to the floor. He pauses, puzzled, then brightens up as he thinks of a wonderful idea! He scrunches up his face really hard, then lets his breath out as a bright green berry appears in each hand.
Berries!: 2d4 ⇒ (1, 1) = 2
Looking around, he sees Alina breathing shallowly. He pops one, then the other berry in her mouth, then looks expectantly at her for signs of recovery.
Looks like that'd take 3 rounds - one to make the berries, one to feed each berry to Alina. Even if everyone fails their stabilization rolls, nobody is far enough gone to be in danger of dying before Alina could get to them. Whew!
| GM Darren |
You have no idea how happy I am right now. I absolutely hated having to roll for the dying dog damage because I felt that 2d6 was really unfair but at the same time, I didn't feel I could skip it in all honesty
@Alina - take what time you need and stablise/heal as needed. The clockwork owl and Honoria are going nowehere so I'd also allow you to take a 1d3 day roll to go to the nearest town for healing potions.
Assuming you all make it through, you still have to deal with the acid cloud and the clockwork owl by either killing it or disabling it.
Can't tell you how nice it is not to be a TPK mass murderer
Tholl Sjogunsson
|
My guess is we won't need to run back to town, I can cast CLW twice and I no we have wands floating around.
AMT saves the day!!
Alina Vladinescu
|
Thank you AMT! I will plant a tree in your honor
Alina slowly starts moving as the color comes into her cheeks, then pulls out her wand of CLW and starts poking at everyone.
CLW on Self: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6
CLW on Self: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2 Now 8/8
CLW on Tholl: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 = 8
CLW on Tholl: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9 Now 9/9
CLW on Garsita: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9
CLW on Tholl: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 = 8 Now 9/9
CLW on Aylanna: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9
CLW on Tholl: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
CLW on Tholl: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3 Now 10/10
Once everyone is up and moving, she gives her leafy friend a hug and a whispered thank you, then sits to catch her breath before they continue.
Removed 9 charges. I think that's everyone. Did AMT have any damage that needs to be addressed?
Aylanna
|
Thanks AMT and Alina and Garsita for the save! Once Aylanna is up she'll donate 2 spell castings to save Alina some charges.
"What the hells just happened? Ugh... Thanks. Anyone still hurt? I can cast two more healing spells."
Angry Magic Tree
|
Sounds like a plan! Angry Magic Tree is down a few hitpoints as well.
Alina Vladinescu
|
I don't worry about the charges. The wands aren't really THAT useful after lvl2 or so and I still have 38 left. If you want to use slots to heal I'll add the charges back but no need in my opinion.
Do go ahead and heal our tree savior though lol
| GM Darren |
All healed, you move through to the tomb and decide upon what to do with the clockwork owl. If you haven't rolled already, you'll need to roll your relfex saves against the acid cloud.
Tholl Sjogunsson

Reflex DC14: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 2 = 12
Know Nobles: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (14) + 1 = 15
The acid burns at Tholl's skin, but somehow he manages That insignia as the symbol of the Cenabri family. We need to stop this acid! They have a long history of involvement in legislation and bureaucracy!
Aylanna has UMD, other than that it's smashy smash.
Aylanna are you able to shut down that acid!
Tholl gets ready to smash the familiar with a longsword it necessary.
Aylanna

UMD: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (1) + 7 = 8
"Hmm I think the only way to stop it is to break it..."
| GM Darren |
I fear not my own destruction, says the mangled owl. Syagra Tetranella, one of Honaria’s comrades in arms, cast the blame on my master Italice Cenabri, a prominent adviser to the crown. In truth, I suspect many people shared responsibility for Honaria’s disgrace, but Italice served as a convenient scapegoat for
Syagra’s rage and sorrow. I have no desire for revenge though it is true that I blamed Honaria for Italice’s death. Centuries of reflection in this tomb have changed my opinion and I do not believe any of this to be something she would have wanted. Go ahead, do what you must.
