Finally, to all of my allied PCs--you've never seen me do this before, so you definitely think I have just died.
...*sigh*.
Alphonse watches the Fox fall to the ground and rushes to his side.
"The beast can kill with a glance! Avert your gaze!" he cries, as his hands BLAZE with intense holy light, suffusing Fox's form.
"Do not take him, Lord! He still has much to do!" he calls to the heavens, willing the kitsune to live again.
Using 10 of my Lay on Hands and taking a negative level for the next 24 hours due to poor communication. Nothing happens, as Fox is not really dead.
Alphonse is stricken.
"The creature must steal souls as well! I cannot raise the Fox! It must be destroyed, for all our sakes!"

The bandersnatch is likely out of Cardinal Lucius' sight in the darkness about 120 east of the camp at the top of round 3, and it has received enough of a beating to look for easier prey elsewhere, so this is a victory for the adventurers. On its turn in ROUND 3, it hightails away eastward into the night...
The monster's strange, pained yelps become fainter as it gallops off over the dunes to the east, vanishing into the African wilderness!

As the best runs off, He says.
"If an injury has to be done to a man it should be so severe that his vengeance need not be feared."
Then puts his cross bow away and Tends to wounds of others, he has healing drafts.
In the morning,
The others find a nice hot broth, with flat breads, wine and water is is waiting for everyone.
When the Cardinal awakes, he finds Bernardo is there, ready to dress him.
"I hope you had a pleasant sleep your eminence, after last nights incident. I took the liberty."
His clothing has been cleaned and pressed and ready for the day. There is also a light breakfast waiting for him. Soft pouched eggs and toasted flat bread cut into triangles on the try is goblet of fine red wine.
Alphonse Veritas, Oathkeeper
Alphonse stumbles back to camp with Ogon Fox's lifeless corpse in his hands.
"Alas, there was nothing I could do. If I'd known the creature could kill with merely a look, I would have taken the fate for myself."
"Cardinal D'Borja, what was the man's faith? Would he desire a Christian burial?"
Mwikali
Mwikali looks at Fox and then the others."I believe we should rest If you have something to preserve him do so now." She says still naked
"We can deal with him in the morning, Give him a proper send-off that appeases not only this God but all who observe and support our journey." She says slipping back into her tent.
-----Morning----
Mwikali wakes and looks about. Noting no coffee she grabs some things to brew coffee and begins to brew. She eats of what is offered and feeds Kiku some bread and a bit of the dried fruit she has.

Ihrin Sees Ogun Fox fall and when Alphonse brings him over she kisses his furry forehead and whispers in her native tongue a prayer of peaceful respite in the afterlife.
"Even though I loathe to agree, I say we preserve and wrap up Ogun and honor him in the morning. That way we can properly give him a funeral right that his soul will be pleased to view" She says before turning about and heading to her tent.
As she does she utters in Romani

There must be a special magical ingredient in the broth Machiavelli places by Fox's snout... The false death trance is broken by the delicious aroma, and the Ogon Fox begins to stir and lick his whiskered chops!
The Ogon Fox
"Oh, that smells delicious...wait, what was I doing? The bandersnatch!" The Fox bolts upright. "Where is it?!"
Alphonse Veritas, Oathkeeper
"Praise god! A miracle!" Alphonse cries.
"You dropped dead from the creature's mere look. I tried to save you but even god's divine light, channeled through an imperfect vessel, can only do so much. We all thought you were gone forever."
The Ogon Fox
Quickly gathering that the bandersnatch is no longer threatening them, the Fox moves on to addressing the matter of his apparent death.
"Ah...it seems we haven't talked about this yet. Because I have learned some control over my ki, I am able to limit the needs of my body for food, water, breath...and I can even suspend all functioning of my body, entirely. That is what you saw happen--it was not because of the beast's gaze at all, but a ruse on my part. I hoped to lure it close to me by making it think it had killed me. It must never have drawn near, or I would have awoken... How long have I been unconscious?"
Alphonse Veritas, Oathkeeper
"Hours, now. It is morning." Alphonse says, shaking his head. He doesn't look angry, but vague sadness and disappointment mingles with his relief.
"A dangerous ability to use, especially without informing your allies. We were trying to figure out what burial rites to perform when you awoke. Young Toshiro had just informed me that your people prefer to burn your dead. In part you were saved because we could not find enough firewood to build a pyre in this wasteland."
"I have lost many friends, some just as suddenly, on similar expeditions. I am glad you are well, but please don't scare me like that again." he says.
Suddenly, he brightens.
"Now, breakfast! I know I am hungry after last night's exertions."

Sunday 5th June, daytime random encounter 1 in 6: 1d6 ⇒ 3 no encounter. Night time random encounter 1 in 6: 1d6 ⇒ 2 no encounter.
The day of Sunday, 5th June, the fourth day of travel, passes uneventfully, the expedition traversing the rugged, arid hardpan desert of Africa's Mediterranean coast. As night creeps over from the east, the expedition sets up camp again, with the usual watch rotation. Nothing dares approach their camp that night.
Monday 6th June, daytime random encounter 1 in 6: 1d6 ⇒ 4 no encounter. Night time random encounter 1 in 6: 1d6 ⇒ 1 bingo!
The day of Monday, 6th June, the fifth day of travel from Marrakech, passes uneventfully, the expedition passing through rolling dunes and past the bare bones of older Mauritanian kingdoms poking through the sands. Occasionally, they pass the skeletal remains of some gargantuan beast of the distant past, half buried in the windblown dunes...
As night descends, the expedition camps at an oasis, where their mounts can drink and they can refill their waterskins. Setting the usual watch, the adventurers settle in for the night, washing the dust and sand from their travel-sore bodies in the cool water of the oasis...

Night time random encounter rolls have determined that 3d4 ⇒ (1, 1, 1) = 3 gnolls with 2d4 ⇒ (4, 2) = 6 hyenas have sighted the adventurers' campfire while out on a nocturnal hunt, from a distance of 10d10 + 50 ⇒ (8, 5, 2, 1, 6, 5, 3, 6, 10, 10) + 50 = 106 feet away!
Crouching behind a boulder and keeping firm holds on their hyenas' leashes, they spy on the encamped travelers...
Whispered in Gnoll: Fresh meat! Travelers with riding beasts... Enough meat to feed the whole tribe tonight! But do we dare attack? They are greater in number... Can we overwhelm them as they sleep?
Whispered in Gnoll: We wait and watch for now... Wait until they sleep...

The gnolls (actually flinds of the Bloodlapper tribe) crawl on their bellies over the dunes toward the campsite... Stealth 1d20 - 2 + 10 ⇒ (3) - 2 + 10 = 11 at 100 feet distance vs Perception checks...

Crawling on their bellies over the dunes under cover of darkness, the Bloodlapper flinds slowly begin to creep up on the expedition's campsite... But they are wearing heavy iron scalemail and carrying flindbars, while trying to maintain control over their hyenas, and the adventurers on watch most likely perceive the approaching raiders!

How dark is it? They're 70 feet away (out of Darkvision range), but depending on the phase of the moon and whatnot things could still be pretty visible. New Moon would make it nearly pitch black, full moon pretty much the opposite, and in between could mean all we can make out are fuzzy shapes at best.
For Alphons ethis doesn't change much, but for Toshiro targeting will matter.
Alphonse looks up in alarm as shots are fired and a warning called. He wastes no time this time, activating his Celestial armor and taking to the skies.
