The town of Sandpoint needs you! With the consecration of their new cathedral as the high point of the Swallowtail Festival, the citizens of Sandpoint hope to close the book on the Late Unpleasantness of five years ago. Little do they know that their troubles have only begun, as something terrible begins to boil up from below...
I'd like to take a party of 4-6 players through Rise of the Runelords: Anniversary Edition. For now let's say a commitment to Burnt Offerings, and then see where it goes from there. This will be my first foray into GMing, but I've been wanting to try running a game for years now.
- 20pt buy
- Roll starting gold or use average for your class
- We will be using background skills
- Your character should have two traits, with one being a campaign trait taken from either the RotRL anniversary edition Player's Guide or from James Jacob's 'Shadows Under Sandpoint' campaign (found in the APG, including Favored Son/Daughter, Black Sheep, and Outlander).
- You may take a third trait if you also take a drawback.
- No evil characters.
Barring another massive shutdown of the site, recruitment will go for two weeks, closing ~11:59PM EST on September 16th. If you have any questions, feel free to ask.

In the end I think most people are going to have at least a little experience with Runelords. If you can avoid using out-of-character knowledge in regular gameplay, then feel free to apply.
@Calin Moonbreeze: I know the feeling, I've got my own half-elf who I've gotten in twice with only for the game to die hard and quickly. I like what I'm seeing with Calin, especially the way you have the important facts about him listed out, just be sure to adjust the numbers, equipment, and feats.
Kitchel
I've played the Rise of the Runelords Pathfinder Adventure Card Game, but have no experience at all with the actual adventure path in an rpg setting.
I'd love to play with Kitchel here who, after a first level of Inspired Blade Swashbuckler, would head directly to Empiricist Investigator. I'd specifically love to play a ratfolk character, and in fact if anyone else happened to want to play one as well I'd be more than happy to rework my background to coordinate (and potentially take advantage of some teamwork feats and swarming.)
If Ratfolk are frowned upon I can switch this over to an Elf without too much trouble.
Let me know if you see any issues or have any suggestions!
GM TheSilverDreamer
@Kitchel: I have no problem with ratfolk. Your sheet is looking good with one exception, I don't believe you added background skill ranks? Additionally, what kind of role do you see Kitchel filling in a party?
@Robert Henry: All Paizo classes except for Vigilante and vanilla Summoner. Unchained Summoner is fine, as well as the other Unchained classes. I'm open to races outside of core, just be reasonable. Native outsiders are permitted but they'll get some really weird looks, always chaotic evil races like orcs and drow are a no. I'd like daily posting with leniency on the weekends.
Amren Slyblade
I'll need to tweak this guy to fit the creation guidelines but I would love to get him into another Runelords game. His fell apart.
His background will stay the same, all that will change is what needs to be changed for your creation rules.
EDIT: I just dug through his build. I'll overhaul everything and make him an unchained rogue (knifemaster).
Kitchel
Right, I completely forgot Background Skills; I'll toss those in now.
I had envisioned skill monkey and adequate melee striker, but investigator can be pretty flexible, so I'd probably adapt to what the party needed beyond that (buffer after a couple levels when I can take the infusion discovery, face sooner than that (potentially from the start), if others can't I'll be able to handle traps, it all depends on what the rest of the party can and wants to do, though I guess a lot of that comes with skill monkey anyhow.)
Kitchel's here to solve mysteries, hunt down some monsters and generally be heroic, but that can mean lots of things depending on who else is working with her.
Jedediah "Jed" Price
Here my write up for ole’ Jed, no nonsese gunslinger. I will need to finish him based on his starting gold. I will also be fleshing out his background within the next day or so.
I also am deciding to go Pistolero, so there is a few minor crunch tweaks that will needed to be made. If you see anything that you’re not a fan of please let me know.
Oh, do you play by aging rules? I was going to make Jed an older character, but if there are aging penalties I am not sure exactly how old I would want him to be. It was going to be a purely ascetic thing.
Calin Moonbreeze
I do believe I have updated everything to meet your requirements.
Its Early but heres what we have so far interested.
Calin Moonbreeze Half elf fighter - Frontline melee- The Nine
Valeria Tematea - Human Ranger - Ranged - hatersinheaven
Amren Slyblade - Halfling un.rogue (knifemaster) - Steven_Evil
Kitchel - Ratfolk Investigator (skill based) - Zorblag
Furnok of Ferd - Human Ranger - Melee - Andrea1
Jedediah "Jed" Price - Gunsliger - ranged - RelicBlackOUT
It seems we are a little short of divine and arcane magics.
While I would prefer to play Calin as is, if nothing of those sorts show up I would be willing to work one up.
GM TheSilverDreamer
@Jed: I have no problem with Jed being old only aesthetically, no mechanical benefits or penalties. Your grit total should be 2, the human favored class bonus only gives 1/4 of a point every time you select it. As you're figuring out gear, keep in mind that I would enforce ammo count and cost for gunslingers.
@Furnok of Ferd: You don't have a campaign trait, and 'Resilient' and 'Life of Toil' wouldn't stack anyways, they both give a trait bonus to Fort saves. You don't have any background skills listed. I think there's an extraneous line in your equipment section, '24 gold'?
@Enna: You should have one more background skill. I would also like to see a little bit of information on her personal background, it doesn't need to be all that much, but some idea of what kind of person she is, where she's from, why she's choosing to study Thassilonians instead of something closer to home.
@Valerica: Don't need to be too quick to jump, others are bringing in casters, and I like what I see of Valerica.
@Wayland: I'm liking the look of your character, especially the use of True Strike and Lookout. Sheet is looking good.

I am very interested in playing through Rise of the Runelords finally. I have tried to run it once but it fell apart as we started the second book, and I am running and playing in two separate Shattered Star games.
Allow me to introduce,
Edamm Osvett, Varisian-raised Kellid Human hunter and her black leopard companion, Ponok.
Speaking of Ponok, the intention is to have him be just as stealthy and mobile as Edamm. Keeping him small even after 4th level with keep his stealth great, and taking Agile Maneuvers at second level will give him a much better chance of using his trip attack (which is good because damage will not be his focus).
I do not have such an extensive record on PBP. I am currently running a closed Mummy’s Mask AP here on the forums and I was playing in a closed Crimson Throne one a while ago, but that was called off unfortunately. The reason I have decided to ramp things up on the PBP format is I have soured on the bad elements of Organized Play. There is little or no consistency, and even less attempts to actually RP or immerse in the story.
This immersion in the story and the character development with that story that I am now looking for. I am sure many people can crunch the numbers and make a mechanically superior character, but I want to see the character with skills chosen because the story shows he would have learned them (not because he can mechanically crush the roll).
I look forward to playing more on the PBP, and I would really enjoy it if RORL was one of the first chances I get to so do. Thanks.

I have corrected the grit points, that was an oversight on my end. I have also added ammo. I will keep track of ammo, and create ammo during free times in game if I am picked. It looks like I can craft the ammo at 10% of the cost via the Gunsmithing Feat. It’s a little bit more expensive than arrows, but it all comes out in the wash because of damage.
I also decided to go in a different direction. I went with the Musket Master archetype I like the range vs using a pistol, and it also fits the icon image better.
Benefit: If you have access to a gunsmith’s kit, you can create and restore firearms, craft bullets, and mix black powder for all types of firearms. You do not need to make a Craft check to create firearms and ammunition or to restore firearms.
Crafting Firearms: You can craft any early firearm for a cost in raw materials equal to half the price of the firearm. At your GM’s discretion, you can craft advanced firearms for a cost in raw materials equal to half the price of the firearm. Crafting a firearm in this way takes 1 day of work for every 1,000 gp of the firearm’s price (minimum 1 day).
Crafting Ammunition: You can craft bullets, pellets, and black powder for a cost in raw materials equal to 10% of the price. If you have at least 1 rank in Craft (alchemy), you can craft alchemical cartridges for a cost in raw materials equal to half the price of the cartridge. At your GM’s discretion, you can craft metal cartridges for a cost in raw materials equal to half the cost of the cartridge. Crafting bullets, black powder, or cartridges takes 1 day of work for every 1,000 gp of ammunition (minimum 1 day).
Restoring a Broken Firearm: Each day, with an hour’s worth of work, you can use this feat to repair a single firearm with the broken condition. You can take time during a rest period to restore a broken firearm with this feat.
Special: If you are a gunslinger, this feat grants the following additional benefit. You can use this feat to repair and restore your initial, battered weapon. It costs 300 gp and 1 day of work to upgrade it to a masterwork firearm of its type.

Hey SilverDreamer, I saw you were running this and thought it would be fun to jump in. My only experience with the adventure path is a game that barely got off the ground (we didn't even get to a single combat), and I've always thought it was a shame I've never experienced a classic.
I plan on submitting a chelaxian human wizard who has traveled to Varisia from abroad in order to further his studies, most notably his thesis involving magical augmentation of animals. However he's also there for personal reasons, as the sheltered city life has made him feel suffocated and the stories of adventures and ruins and secrets of Varisia have always held a sort of forbidden charm for him, so choosing to make this thesis on wild animals was mostly an excuse so he could have a chance as an adventurer.
I'll start working on some write up. I'll let you know when I have something more tangible.
Wealth: 2d6 ⇒ (2, 5) = 7x10 = 70 Average wealth it is!

@Edamm Osvett: Haha, no pressure, you've just been playing rpgs longer than I've been alive. Seriously, though, I'm into it, I love the bit about Edamm meeting the pixie siblings.
Time for my favorite game... What was I doing when someone wasn't yet born?
Its cool, always glad to see a variety of ages in the game. Someone has to keep writing this stuff when I'm an OLD MAN.
Thanks though for the encouragement. I have added a few more details to the sheet and I am considering a third trait and the self-doubt drawback. Still not sold on it yet. Lastly, I also need to add my remaining gold, missed that on the gear.

This is Captain Collateral Damage submitting Deivon Jafi, a Varisian heavens oracle of Desna. Stats are almost done, background will be up soon as well.
Money: 3d6 ⇒ (4, 3, 3) = 10
Question: As Deivon was raised as a Varisian nomad, would you allow me to take the Nomadic trait despite it being specific to the Bas'o?
Enna
Ok, character has been adjusted for the game I believe. If you catch any discrepancies let me know.
Enna herself is a stoic, gruff woman, having little patience for those who would waste her time.
CampinCarl9127
I humbly introduce to you Vance Leroung, transmuter wizard with a driving need for adventure, and his pygmy storm roc familiar Tiltha.
I took a little liberty in relating him to the Leroung family, most notably being the newphew of Lady Eliasia Leroung, who is the headmistress of the University of Korvosa. Let me know if that's a little too much, and I can have him be a more distant relative, or a family friend if that's more appropriate.
Also please note that his stats will appear a little wonky since he is a transmuter and his school power lets him enhance one of his physical scores. His con score is inherently 14 but is currently 15 due to being enhanced.
Any and all feedback is much appreciated!
Gudada Purrun
I have been trying to get 'Dada here into and through this game for a while. Seems like he's a cursed character.
Never made it out of Book 1. Only made it into the glassblower's once, I think, didn't get through it.
I'll need to adjust the build, but I have done that a few times.
I REALLY like this character concept, and have enjoyed the time I've been allowed to play him. I hope for much more time with him.
Straight Unchained Rogue, no archetype.
And edited, I believe. As others have said, feedback welcome.
Gudada Purrun
Caught a couple of small errors, primarily in the stat headers.
They are now corrected.
I forgot how broke I take him with average starting wealth. Wow.
Then again, for Gudada, he's only as broke as the town folk around him.
Edit: Saw the comment about trying to get a character into and through this AP for seemingly ever, so I went and looked. My first post with Gudada was 25 Jul, 2012. He's been trying to get this right for a while, now, it seems.
