Tortuga
|
Tortuga gets two more attacks due to Medusa's Wrath. Added the +2 for stunned, attacks would be vs its flat-footed AC.
Miss Chance: 1d5 ⇒ 2
Unarmed Attack: 1d20 + 19 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 19 + 2 = 38
Damage: 2d8 + 4 ⇒ (3, 5) + 4 = 12
Holy: 2d6 ⇒ (3, 6) = 9
Miss Chance: 1d5 ⇒ 4
Unarmed Attack: 1d20 + 19 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 19 + 2 = 30
Damage: 2d8 + 4 ⇒ (8, 2) + 4 = 14
Holy: 2d6 ⇒ (3, 4) = 7
Kaldane Starlight
|
Kaldane will move up and cast Prayer on all combatants.
Let me know if I need to roll for SR.
| GM Xavier Kahlvet |
You....don't?! Well color me wholeheartedly surprised, I could've sworn this thing had SR.
Sir Hendric the Vigilant
|
Sir Hendric full attacks. No longer fighting defensively, but still exhausted and sickened.
Primary, GMW, Exhausted, Sickened, Prayer, vs Stunned: 1d20 + 21 + 2 - 3 - 2 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 21 + 2 - 3 - 2 + 1 + 2 = 23
Secondary, GMW, Exhausted, Sickened, Prayer, vs Stunned: 1d20 + 16 + 2 - 3 - 2 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 16 + 2 - 3 - 2 + 1 + 2 = 24
Tertiary, GMW, Exhausted, Sickened, Prayer, vs Stunned: 1d20 + 11 + 2 - 3 - 2 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 11 + 2 - 3 - 2 + 1 + 2 = 15
More lousy rolls.
AC is 32, but it will be stunned when its turn comes up... nice going Tortuga! And nice going Xon to keep knocking its Str down.
| GM Xavier Kahlvet |
Well, it’s stunned—not much that I can do...

Gaétan stops to use his foots. I am starting to be low at my usual arrows!

Damage: 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11
Kaldane is bleeding 1d8 if the attack connected.
Waiting on Tortuga.
EDIT: Hendric, did you do what Tortuga did and add the -2 to AC from stunned into your attack rolls or did you leave that on my end?
| GM Xavier Kahlvet |
Well, I just realized that the attack that stunned it actually wouldn’t have hit (its AC is 33 and the attack was a 31)...well, that’s my fault and I completely missed it until just now, so I’m gonna give it to you all since it’s so far past. What the heck was going through my mind at the time for me to miss that???
Sir Hendric the Vigilant
|
I included the Stunned modifier in my first set of attack rolls, but not the second, since I thought it was un-stunned by that time. Of course, it's possible it could be re-stunned again when Tortuga goes... I leave it to you to figure out the order in which these events happen.
| GM Xavier Kahlvet |
Botting Tortuga:
Miss Chance (Miss on a 1): 1d5 ⇒ 3
Unarmed Attack w/Stunning Fist: 1d20 + 20 ⇒ (9) + 20 = 29

Sir Hendric the Vigilant

Perception, Sickened, Prayer: 1d20 + 28 - 2 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 28 - 2 + 1 = 31
Damn... Sir Hendric had the best chance to hit that DC. Using my Folio reroll.
Perception, Sickened, Prayer: 1d20 + 28 - 2 + 1 ⇒ (15) + 28 - 2 + 1 = 42
"It's above ground! Attacking the researchers and the Scroll-Seekers! Xon, can you get there?"
Xon has done, what, 19 Str damage to it now? And it's suffering another -1 to hit and damage from Prayer. So maybe it won't kill everybody before Xon can get there to finish it off.
Sir Hendric starts to move towards the stairs, though exhausted as he is he doesn't get far.
Double move to go 20'.
| GM Xavier Kahlvet |
Hendric got it. We're still technically in initiative.

Géatan Émond
|
Gaétan flies. (120ft)
Kaldane Starlight
|
At Hendric's statement, Kaldane will cast Blessing of Fervor then fly up top. No benefit for me this round.
| GM Xavier Kahlvet |
Don’t forger that everyone except Xon and Kaldane move at half speed from exhaustion.
Tortuga
|
Tortuga will take the speed boost and move as quickly as he can.
Unlike haste the bonus to speed from blessing of fervor does not appear to have a type and thus I think would stack with the monk's enhancements bonus to speed. So Tortuga could double move 100 feet per round.
I'm not sure I understand which way we are moving so hopefully some can direct me.
Xon Mutsaporuen
|
Xon touches the thing as it goes to disappear...
Touch: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (13) + 11 = 24
Str: 1d6 ⇒ 3 Make that 22!
As Hendric shouts the orders, the shadow yells...
ON IT BOSS!
And flies straight up.
Not sure what kind of distance he has to move to reach the surface and what happens once he get's there, but he has 40 feet per move to get up and move directly at the thing..
| GM Xavier Kahlvet |
So the two sets of stairs (lower right of the topmost map and upper left of the map you guys are on) are basically a spiral staircase that descends down 40’.
| GM Xavier Kahlvet |
Eh...not exactly...
An incorporeal creature can enter or pass through solid objects, but must remain adjacent to the object’s exterior, and so cannot pass entirely through an object whose space is larger than its own.
Nox Neuropastum
|
Huh. Weird. I guess I've never tried to pass through a space larger than walls before. Okay, then with a double move since Xon can just travel straight up the stairwell and doesn't have to run round it, he can make it to the top, but not outside this turn. Nox will continue picking the lock... little guy moves to slow to get up there in time anyways. Stupid short stubby wayang legs.
| GM Xavier Kahlvet |
So, using a mathematical technique called “counting,” I figured out that if you’re traveling from the bottom of the spiral staircase to the top and going up it properly (i.e. not what Xon is doing), then you effectively have to travel 110’ from the first square of stairs to the last square of stairs. And because of the fact that in order to turn greater than 45 degrees with a fly speed you need to spend an additional 5 feet of movement and succeed at a DC 15 Fly check, you effectively need to fly 180’ and succeed at 14 checks to get to the top by using the staircase as intended (again, NOT what Xon is doing). And remember: everyone except Kaldane and Xon is exhausted. You’re welcome for figuring that out for you.

Nox Neuropastum

Nox continues to work. In aklo, he speaks quickly.
Alright, I'm getting close. But I'm gonna need a good reason to believe your not just gonna join that thing up there and try to kill us off... I haven't unlocked this yet, so start talking, buy me a reason to let you go. Fast, you don't have much time.
| GM Xavier Kahlvet |
The creature is 40’ away from the shack, attacking the scientists and the Scroll-Seekers indiscriminately.
The creature that Nox is setting free speaks rapidly.
Tortuga
|
I'm so confused. So the stairs are more than the 8 squares shown on the map? My movement last round assumed that's all there was to the stairs. I didn't see the length of the stairs mentioned anywhere on the map. Does it cost extra movement to go up them?
| GM Xavier Kahlvet |
Tortuga, the stairs are a spiral staircase that goes down 40’; it’s more than just those 8 squares. A visual from the side of the island with the facility can be seen on the top-left part of the map.
Sir Hendric the Vigilant
|
Sir Hendric moves south into the room and summons his horse.
There is no way he could get up top in time to contribute to the battle; however, he can be here to guard Nox. His attacks rolls are significantly better when mounted (even if not charging).
| GM Xavier Kahlvet |
Meant to do this earlier:
The creature takes an AoO against Xon and it just slips right through the shadow.
Waiting on Tortuga, Kaldane, and Géatan.
| GM Xavier Kahlvet |
Okay, I’m gonna make a GM call here: the creature has 34 Str. and is currently at -2 hp. I’m basically gonna say that it’ll flail wildly trying to hit Xon and failing every time, dying either from Xon’s touch or from its own inability to heal itself.
Nox soon undoes the chains restraining the creature and it makes its way to the surface. With some explanation to the Scroll-Seekers, the creature actually joins with the researchers for interrogation by the Scroll-Seekers.
Janira pulls the Seekers aside for some words with them away from listening ears.
”So, things here seem off. Despite mentions of Aspis affiliation, no one wears an Aspis insignia or even knows any elite Aspis protocols. The equipment in the lab is apparently more about keeping the lab specimens on-site than they are to ensure the safety of these researchers—even the safety protocols place destroying sensitive research materials as a higher priority than evacuating the premises. From the sounds of things not everyone here followed those protocols to the letter, so you may be able to find some clues as to what exactly Kramolag’s goal here was. There’s still quite a few people we haven’t interrogated, including that Roper you brought up—I’ll send a raven down if we get any significant info.”
Sir Hendric the Vigilant
|
"Thank you, Janira. Keep working here and we'll find out what we can inside."
"Kaldane," asks the cavalier, "Do you have a way to cure exhaustion and sickness? And to stop that awful stench coming from Nox?"
Nox Neuropastum
|
Nox blinks in surprise.
Stench?
He sniffs the air, obviously unaware of his own foul odor.
If it's not a magical condition that we can cure, perhaps I can use my scent cloak to mask the smell? or is it a wait it out thing?
| GM Xavier Kahlvet |
Kaldane will take-10 on Planes: Based on the body of the outsider, Nox is likely affected by the Augnagar’s curse—anything that’ll remove a curse gets rid of Nox’s stench.
Kaldane Starlight
|
"Yes, yes, and no."
Kaldane will cast Break Enchantment.
Caster Level check (vs. DC 11+Caster Level of the effect: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (19) + 15 = 34
Assuming that works:
Kaldane then casts Heal on Nox.
Sir Hendric the Vigilant
|
Tortuga, Nox, Géatan, and Sir Hendric are all Exhausted. BS no-save no-touch spells. That would be two Lesser Restorations each to fix, or one regular Restoration (which Kaldane does not have), or a Heal.
Nox Neuropastum
|
Now far less stinky, Nox calls out to Janira.
Janira! That beast worked us over a bit. Any chance you can cast Lesser Restoration or Restoration? We'll be going back in, and we want to reserve as much resources as we can.
Unlikely, but worth a shot. If not, I have a scroll of restoration to add to the healing.
Kaldane Starlight
|
Heal takes care of exhaustion, so Nox isn't exhausted anymore.
"I have it." says Kaldane as he begins casting restorative magic on the two companions.
Kaldane will cast a pair of Lesser Restorations each on Hendric and Geatan.
Sir Hendric the Vigilant
|
And Tortuga can use his ki power for Restoration.
Sir Hendric goes back down to the specimen room. He can see with Echolocation, but wonders if there is a way to make the fog go away.
"I have a couple of scrolls of Gust of Wind for dealing with effects such as Cloudkill. Might the fog just dissipate if we leave the doors open?"
Géatan Émond
|
"I have a wand of lesser restauration"
Tortuga
|
Tortuga focuses his Ki, removing his exhaustion and allowing his health to return.
Spend 2 ki to cast restoration on self, removing the exhausted condition and the Con drain.
He then passes off his wand to be healed.
Cure Light x4: 4d8 + 4 ⇒ (1, 7, 3, 8) + 4 = 23
| GM Xavier Kahlvet |
As Hendric searches over the Organics Lab he finds a pipe—broken beyond repair—from which the gas is spilling out of. He also finds a door to the south-east labeled:
TERMINATED EXPERIMENTS
Hendric also finds a strange-looking device in the rear of the room.
Kaldane Starlight
|
Kaldane uses his spirit ability to increase his Knowledge of Engineering as he ponders the pipe.
Engineering: 1d20 + 25 ⇒ (2) + 25 = 27 Doh!
Géatan Émond
|
The archer takes all of his arrows back.
Gaétan tells Kaldane to use two of his charge of lesser restauration. He also use a charge of heighten awardness.
He looks at the device that Hendrik have found.
Take 10, but if it doesn't work.
arcana: 1d20 + 21 ⇒ (4) + 21 = 25
